Boland though is over the moon and he can do no wrong in the series. That is a really unfortunate way to get out. Lands on a length, on off and simply does not rise up! It shoots low and goes under the bat as Root is in the crease to block it. It goes onto hit the off pole and Root walks back. Things could get over soon now.

It has certainly been enthralling action in this final session so far and England are just about hanging on in this match. Probably the most important pair for England in the middle now. They need a big stand between these two. Australia are aware of that and would want to separate these two as soon as they can.

OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Cameron Green is turning this match on its head all by himself! Green pitches this one up, around off and this one seems to be going on with the angle but just straightens a bit, enough to get the knick. Zak Crawley is drawn forward and he plays for the line but is undone by the late movement. The ball goes off the outside edge and Alex Carey dives to his right to take a sharp catch. Crawley was looking so good out there and now the visitors are certainly under pressure with two new batters out in the middle.

This is on a good length, close to off stump and just nips back in ever so slightly. Dawid Malan is indecisive and has a late poke at it. His feet don't move and the inside edge is found. The ball goes back onto hit the off stump. Is this the opening the hosts were looking for?

The physio is out in the middle. Malan has been hit on the helmet so as per the concussion protocol, the physio is out to have a look at him. A change of helmet and Malan seems fine now. The new helmet still has the price tag on it!

Ouch! What a ripper! Green angles in a quick short ball, around the helmet. Dawid Malan just takes his eyes off the ball a bit and gets stung on the grill of the helmet. That one must have shaken up the batter. Luckily it didn't go through the gap inside the grill. Hope he is okay.

Well then, from the looks of the session that has gone by, Australia seemed to have let the match slip from the palm of their hands. But, Cameron Green has certainly brought them back into the match with that very late scalp. They haven't bowled poorly and have been a bit unlucky but the English openers, for once showed great positive intent to keep the Aussie pacers at bay. The hosts still have more than 200 runs to play with and if they repeat what the English quicks did in the last session on Day 2, then they can break the English hearts yet again. It is all about which team wants it more. Do the visitors have it in them to fight till the end and see the match through? Or will the Aussies get their mojo back and be all over the visitors in the final session? We'll find out soon. Stay tuned for an exhilarating session coming up at 2:30 pm IST (9 am GMT).

Well then, no one expected this but it has happened. Finally, a session which truly belonged to the visitors, well at least till the last delivery but still, they have given themselves the best possible opportunity to win this Test match. The English pacers cleaned up the Australian tail after the Dinner break and for a change, their openers have looked really good out in the middle. Well, they did until Rory Burns fell at the stroke of Tea and that has slightly altered this match. Still, a long way to go as they require 203 more runs and when one wicket falls down, a team can get lose further wickets in quick succession. The job for the English batters is to get through the final session without losing more than a couple of wickets, max. They can then have a bat in the sunshine tomorrow afternoon and push for victory.

OUT! BOWLED! Oh, dear. Oh, dear dear. What has happened there? A session that was dominated by England ends with their opening stand broken! Length ball, just outside off. This comes in with the angle and gets quite close to the off pole. Now, Burns decides to leave it a bit too late and that proves to be his undoing. The ball takes the bottom part of the bat and goes onto hit the stumps! A much-needed wicket for Australia and that is Tea on Day 3!

A delayed reaction from Alex Carey behind the stumps but Pat Cummins does go for the review. There is a huge noise and the hosts have to go for the review, hoping to break this opening stand. This might be a huge review in the context of the match. There is nothing on Hotspot and on the UltraEdge there is a tiny little spike but that looks to be after the ball went past the bat. The third umpire looks at it from the front again and decides that there's nothing conclusive. The original decision stands.

NOT OUT! What was that noise then? There was a noise for sure but there doesn't seem to any bat on it! Length ball, around off. Burns looks to block but the ball goes past the bat and goes to the keeper. Warner goes up and so does Green. Carey puts in delayed appeal too but the umpire is unmoved. Cummins moves forward and decides to review this one. Now, the replays roll in. First is Hotspot and there is nothing on it. Now, the UltragEdge is a bit interesting. There is a spike but the front-on angle is cropped and the umpire cannot see if there is a deflection to correlate with the UltraEdge spike. The TV umpire goes back to the front-on vision and that shows no clear deflection. He decides that there is no conclusive evidence and the onfield decision stays.

Right on the buzzer, Pat Cummins does go for the review for an LBW decision. Well, it looks to be going well over the stumps and down the leg side as well. UltraEdge confirms that there's no bat on it but Ball Tracker shows that it is very close. In fact, the ball was clipping the top of leg stump but the onfield decision will stay. Australia though don't lose the review which might come in handy later on.

NOT OUT! Full ball, on middle and leg. Zak Crawley shuffles a bit and looks to flick it. The ball hits the pads and there is a big appeal for LBW! The umpire is unmoved again. Cummins runs in towards the pitch and has a word with his players. One of the players says that height should not be an issue and Cummins takes the review with a second left on the clock. The replays roll in. No bat on that and Ball Tracker has the ball clipping the leg stump with umpire's call! A lucky break for England. Had that been given out on field, the review would not have saved Zak Crawley!

FOUR LEG BYES! Down the leg side yet again and Starc just isn't getting his line right here. Burns shuffles a bit and looks to flick it fine. The ball comes off the pads and races away into the fine leg fence.

As close as it can get to not hitting the stumps. Good-length ball, around off. Burns looks to block it out but ends up chopping it back onto the stumps. The ball though goes a couple of inches over the middle stump and Burns is maybe due for a little bit of luck in this series.

Not reviewed! It looked to be missing the bat by a fair way but there was a noise for sure. Starc pitches it up, around off and around 145 kph. The ball just moves away off the pitch and zips past Burns' outside edge. Cummins is the voice of reason from mid on and decides not to review it. The replay shows that it didn't hit anything.

Burns seems to have made an adjustment to his trigger movement as noted by one of the commentators on air. His front foot isn't moving as far across as it was before so he is not really losing his balance. The fourth ball of the previous over was the same delivery that he got in the first Test in Brisbane but this time, he didn't get too far across and neither did Starc get the ball to swing.

Sharp work! Cummins hits the length hard and bowls it on off. Crawley taps it straight to Travis Head at short leg, who keeps Crawley on his toes.

FOUR! Edged and just past third slip! A lovely delivery angled into middle and straightening away after pitching. Crawley gets squared up and the outside edge is found. The ball flies past Usman Khawaja's dive at third slip and races away into the fence.

OUT! CASTLED! Career-best figures for Mark Wood! Finally, it feels like he has been rewarded for his efforts! Length ball, on off. Cummins goes for the massive heave but connects only with the thin air around his bat. The ball shatters the stumps. Now then. We have 8 more sessions of cricket lined up and there will definitely be a result in this game. If England can get these two wickets quickly, they might have a chance of chasing down the total and go home with a win. But for that, they need to get a wicket first. Will they be able to? The day started with Broad and Wood bowling in tandem. Broad bowled well, got a few balls to go past the bat, got in a few LBW calls but did not get a wicket. That was not the matter for Wood though. He kept coming hard at the batters and picked up 3 early wickets to dismantle the Australian middle order. The hosts were 63 for 6 and in big trouble. But then something happened that arrested their slide. Carey was bowled off the bowling of Woakes but the TV umpire decided that the bowler had overstepped. That was the luck that Carey needed and he put on a 49-run stand with Green. Just when it looked like these two batters will see the session off for Australia, Broad came back for his second spell. The veteran pacer made the ball talk under lights and got the wicket of Green. Wood came back and got a wicket but was denied the wicket of Cummins by millimeters again as Ball Tracker had the ball just missing the off pole.

What a session of Test cricket! 5 wickets for England but Australia have scored 104 runs in the session. They lead by 256 at this point and the lead will go up by a bit at the very least in the next session. They also had luck going their way in this session with Carey getting bowled once but Woakes overstepping, with Carey given LBW but Ball Tracker showing that the ball pitched outside leg by millimeters and once with Cummins given out LBW but the ball missing the off pole by millimeters again! England needed some luck going their way in this game but that has not happened. They have bowled extremely well though and would look to finish the Australian tail quickly.

FOUR! Well played by Carey and Australia end the session on a high. Around middle and leg, this is flicked through mid-wicket for a boundary. At the Dinner interval, Australia are 141/8 and they lead by 256 runs.

Vicious bounce this time from Broad! Banged in, around off. Cummins is taken aback by it. He still manages to keep it down on the leg side and even picks up a single.

The lead now goes past 250 and with every run scored, England will be feeling more and more anxious. Good-length ball, pushed across the left-hander. Carey edges it down towards the third man fence and picks up three runs.

Good running! The man at mid off was right on the edge of the circle and Cummins takes advantage of that. Slightly fuller, on off and driven on the up towards mid off for a single.

A length ball, on off. Cummins makes a bit of room and swats it across towards dep mid-wicket. Woakes runs around from the square leg fence and keeps it down to a couple.

NOT OUT! Missing the off stump by millimeters and Australia get lucky yet again! Cummins has a nice laugh about it but none of the English players are smiling. Corker of a yorker by Wood though. He comes 'round the wicket with Cummins probably expecting a short one. Cummins is already ducking a bit and Wood fires a yorker, right on the boot. Cummins fails to dig it out and gets hit on the boot. Up goes the finger but Cummins reviews it! No bat on that again, but since Wood is bowling 'round the stumps, the angle could take the ball away from the off pole. Yes, it is! Missing off stump by millimeters. Not even clipping the stump!

OUT! TAKEN! No review needed this time and the workhorse, Wood, gets his third 5-wicket haul in Tests! He has been a sensational bowler for England and has deserved each and every one of these wickets! He soaks in the applause from the crowd and Australia lose their eighth wicket. A bumper, on the body of Starc. He looks to block but gets the inside edge on the thigh pad and straight to short leg. Ollie Pope takes it with ease.

OUT! LBW! Broad finally gets his man! He has deserved a wicket for the way he has bowled this morning! The 49-run stand is broken and England needed this big time. Length ball, on off. Green gets forward to block but the ball nips away a bit and Green gets hit on the pads. Broad puts on a celebrappeal - meaning that he is celebrating even before the decision is made! But the umpire is not convinced and there are also overthrows when someone throws the ball and misses the stumps. Root decides to review this one. No bat on that and Ball Tracker has the ball smashing into the off pole after hitting in line!

Ooh, seems close! Huge appeal for LBW and Joe Root has gone for the review. UltraEdge shows that there's no bat involved. Ball Tracker confirms that the ball does hit Green in line and is going to hit the off stump. Brilliant review and this might just open the floodgates for England.

But Wood has been sensational with the ball and he has deserved this. One would say that he has deserved a lot more wickets but hasn't got them! The barrage of short deliveries continues from Wood and he bowls a sharp one at Smith's body. Smith shuffles a bit inside the line looking to pull but he can't keep it on the ground as he gets the top edge. The ball goes straight to fine leg and Dawid Malan takes an easy catch.

Big appeal again! Ooh, this is much closer! This time Broad goes full and around off. Smith rarely misses these balls but twice in the same over, he gets struck on the pads while looking to work it away. Broad is convinced again, well he always is convinced! But to be fair, this is a good appeal. The umpire turns it down again and Root after thinking about it for a while, decides not to review. Impact could have been an issue there.

He misses this time! Broad looked very excited about that but Root reckons it was too high! Length ball, lands on middle. Smith misses the flick and gets hit near the knee roll. There is a big appeal by Broad and he looks convinced but the umpire is not. Root walks up to have a word with the pacer but the English skipper reckons that it is too high and decides not to review. Good decision as Ball Tracker shows that it was going over.

FOUR! Nicely done by Smith! Broad goes full and targets the pads in the hope that Smith will miss it. But Smith clips it nicely and the ball races to the square leg fence.

In some big news coming out of India, Virat Kohli has decided to step down as the Test skipper of the side after an illustrious phase at the helm. He led India in 68 Tests out of which the team won 50 games with a win percentage of just under 60. This makes Kohli the most successful Test skipper for India to date and this includes taking the team to number 1 ranking and to the final of the inaugural WTC. Now that Kohli has decided to hang his boots and focus on his batting more, it will be interesting to see who takes over as the skipper of the side.

It was the same old story for the visitors on Day 2 as all the early inroads made by them just slipped away and they ended up conceding more runs than they should have. The batting, well it was as poor as it has been throughout the series and in about two sessions of play, England were bundled out. Their pacers though bowled their heart out late in the day and have managed to put their team in a position from which they can at least allow themselves a chance in this match. So, will the English bowlers get those early breakthroughs and make a contest out of this one? Or will the hosts manage to consolidate a decent lead and put the visitors out of their misery yet again? We'll find out soon.

Australia lead by 152 runs and just like the first innings, have lost 3 early wickets. The pair of Steven Smith and Scott Boland did tremendously well to fend off an on-song English attack late in the day and they will now look to utilize the afternoon to get that lead past at least 250. We have already seen what the pink ball can do late in the evening and the Aussies will want to take advantage while conditions are better for batting.

Hello and a warm welcome to Day 3 of the fifth and final Ashes Test at the Bellerive Oval. Day 2 had no rain but there was cloud cover and it certainly was a day dominated by bowlers. As many as 17 wickets fell and if that is anything to go by then we can expect a lot of action today as well. The weather looks to be perfect throughout the day and it should be better for batting early in the afternoon. Let's see which side can come out of the blocks quickly and seize their opportunities.

... Day 3, Session 1 ...

Right then! Day 3 is known as the moving day in Test cricket but it might just be the final day of the 2021-22 Ashes series as well. With the English bowlers keeping their team in the match, it is set up really nicely and whichever team makes an early start on Day 3, will hold the advantage. England did not have the best of days with the bat, which has been the case for them for the entire series but they their bowlers have bent their backs and made sure that they are still in the game. They managed to bowl out Australia for 303 in the first innings but their batters failed to put on a show at Hobart. Their openers, Crawley and Burns fell cheaply and it was once again the pair of Root and Malan who had to do the repair work. They did manage to steady the ship but both of them perished in quick succession and the English side was sent on the back foot. If not for the tailenders contribution at the fag end, England would have failed to go past even the 150-run mark. However, the tourists needed to get early breakthroughs with the ball, and boy have they delivered! Broad set the tone upfront and got rid of the dangerous David Warner for a pair. Woakes also made the pink ball talk and he got the prized wicket of Marnus Labuschagne, although it wasn't the best of deliveries. Wood bowled his heart out and got the wicket of Usman Khawaja with an unplayable bumper. The English bowlers have done a good job on Day 2 and they must ensure that they restrict the hosts to a chaseable target on Day 3.

The Aussies started the day at 241/6 and the GOAT, Nathan Lyon played a crucial cameo to take his team past the 300-run mark. The Aussies followed it up with a brilliant bowling peformance  and bundled out the tourists for just 188. Their skipper, Pat Cummins, led from the front and finished with 4 wickets to his name. All the Aussie bowlers executed their plans to perfection and they were so accurate that Cummins did not even bowl his spinner, Nathan Lyon for one over. Starc, the pink-ball specialist, wasn't at his very best but he managed to grab 3 wickets in the end. The Aussies had a tricky period of play to negotiate and the English bowlers made things hard for them. David Warner was sent back for a pair and Labuschagne also followed suit after scoring just 5 runs. Khawaja and Smith tried to steady the innings but Khawaja got an unplayable delivery from Wood and his resistance came to an end. Scott Boland joined Steven Smith as a night watchman and he ensured that the Aussies do not lose any more wickets.

Mitchell Starc says he's heard two noises and Pat Cummins does go for the review. Indeed there were two noises as the third umpire confirms on Hotspot that there's a slight tickle off the bat. The keeper wasn't sure but kudos to the skipper for believing in his bowler and the fact the Australia have missed out on two reviews earlier on might have also played a part in this review. Chris Woakes though has to walk back.

The umpire says no and Pat Cummins opts for a review. The UltraEdge shows a spike as the ball was passing the bat and Chris Woakes is a goner.

Length, on middle. Woakes works it away nicely through mid-wicket and picks up a single.

FOUR! Chris Woakes is profiting in the third man region. Fuller, on middle and pushed across the batter. Woakes edges it past gully and picks up yet another boundary.

Good running. Around middle and leg, Wood dabs it towards mid-wicket and scampers through for one.

Flashy shot but no connection. Full, around off. Woakes backs away and swings hard at it but misses it completely.

On a good length, on middle. Chris Woakes makes a bit of room and looks to heave it to the leg side but misses and gets hit in the mid riff.

On off, Wood stands tall and pushes it through covers for a run.

LEG BYE! Short of a length, at the body. Woakes gets it off the thigh pads on the leg side and gets a leg bye.

And again. This time it's even closer to the off pole and Woakes gets beaten past the outside edge.

Cummins is right on the money. Good-length ball, around off and this is angled in. The ball straightens after pitching and Woakes gets squared all ends up.

Pat Cummins (11-2-32-3) brings himself into the attack.

Sliding down leg. A fuller delivery, attacking the pads. Wood looks to flick but gets cramped for room and gets struck on the pads.

A bit width on offer and this is eased towards deep point for one.

FOUR BYES! A bit wayward from Scott Boland. It's the inswinger but the ball starts on leg stump and just keeps going further down. Carey dives to his left but can't get to it. The ball races away into the fine leg fence.

Length again, outside off. Woakes has a swing at it but misses.

FOUR! Another edgy boundary but England will take those at this stage. Length again, outside off. Woakes pushes at it and gets it in between third slip and gully as the ball races towards the third man fence.

Play and a miss. To be honest, I don't know how anyone would play that one. Beautifully angled in from around off and the ball just shapes away so perfectly, leaving the batter bamboozled.

A length ball, angled into middle. Wood jams it out towards gully and looks for the single but the fielder does well to make the stop.

OUT! TAKEN! The plan has worked for Australia and they get Sam Billings. A well-directed short ball from Cameron Green, right around the helmet. Billings cannot get out of the way and goes for the pull shot. He is a bit late and the ball goes off the top edge and flies towards the fine leg fence. Scott Boland takes an easy catch and this opens the floodgates for Australia to wrap things up here.

On off. Solidly blocked out by Billings.

Pitched up, on off and punched back towards the bowler. The big man does well to get low to his left and make a stop.

SIX! All the way! Woakes thought he was gone for all money but gets just about enough on it. Banged in short, over middle. Woakes has both feet in the air as he hooks it away. The ball carries over the man at the square leg fence for a maximum.

FOUR! Edgy boundary! Slightly fuller and outside off, inviting the drive. Billings pushes at it with soft hands and gets an outside edge which runs away to the backward point fence.

LEG BYE! Back of a length, at the body. Woakes looks to tuck it away leg side but misses. The ball goes off the thigh pads onto the leg side and they get a leg bye.

FOUR! Boland just overpitches and Woakes with a lovely cover drive. Fullish ball, around off and Woakes gets forward to stroke it through the cover region for a boundary.

Shorter in length, over middle. Woakes looks to keep it down off the back foot but the ball goes off the inside edge towards backward square leg. They come back for a couple.

This is just unreal bowling from Boland! A length ball, angled into off and the ball just shapes away ever so beautifully. Woakes is caught on the crease and has a poke at it but gets beaten all ends up yet again.

FOUR! Classy from the debutant! Green serves a half-volley, outside off. Sam Billings lunges forward and carves it past the mid off fielder for a boundary.

Right then, we are back for the final session on Day 2. Australia right on top of the proceedings and they stride out to the middle looking positive. ... Day 2, Session 3 ...

It was Australia's skipper, Pat Cummins who carried on in his merry way after the Dinner break and got rid of Joe Root and Dawid Malan just when both of these batters were looking settled in the middle. There was a passage of play where England lost 3 wickets for just 7 runs and that tells us the whole story. The ever-so impressive Scott Boland did what he is best known far - he got rid of Ollie Pope with a peach of a delivery and England were in all sorts of trouble. However, things could have been much worse for the visitors had the slip cordon been tighter. Woakes was dropped on a couple of occasions off Scott Boland, David Warner and Usman Khawaja being the culprit. All in all, it was a top session for Australia and they will now look to get the remaining wickets quickly once the play resumes after Tea break. Sam Billings has looked good in the middle and he would hope that he doesn't run out of partners if England are to stage a comeback in this Test. A session that has been dominated by the Aussies and this Test is moving ahead at a rate of knots. The same old story continues for England, the top order fails to deliver and then Root and Malan do the repair work. However, both Root and Malan have failed to capitalize on the start that they got and once again in the series, the English side is on the back foot. They did manage to score 90 runs in the session but have lost 4 wickets as well.

Woakes survives. Boland goes full and outside off, inviting the drive but Woakes times it sweetly towards cover. Tea is taken with England reeling at 124/6!

Trying to nip it back in from wide outside off. The ball does come back a bit but Woakes leaves it alone.

Boland pulls his length back and bowls it around off. Woakes hops and gets behind the line of the ball to block it out.

DROPPED! That is poor! Khawaja should have left Smith take it! Full and wide outside off. Woakes goes for the drive away from his body but gets the outside edge. Now, the ball flies to the slip cordon. Mark Waugh has been saying for a while now that the slips are too close together and that could be an issue. Now, Khawaja, who is at third slip, moves to his left side. Natural side for him so there's that. But he goes right in front of Smith, who is at second slip to take it. Smith could have easily taken that to his right with minimal movement but Khawaja goes for it and drops it!

Length ball, around off. Billings gets the outside edge towards the slip cordon.

Banged in short, on middle. Woakes taps it towards square leg for one.

Fuller, on middle. Woakes looks to work it away but gets the leading edge towards cover.

Cameron Green goes agonizingly past the outside edge again! He pitches it up, just outside off. Woakes is glued to the crease as he looks to block but the ball zips past the bat.
