Australia tied with Sri Lanka (Australia win Super Over by 2 wickets)

Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), Sydney

We are ready! Six balls for each team to win the match! Dasun Shanaka and Dinesh Chandimal have come out to bat for Sri Lanka. Josh Hazlewood has the ball in hand.

Right then. In the Super Over, the team that batted second will bat first which means that Lankans will have to set a target. The big question is which two batters will be sent out? Pathum Nissanka certainly seems the likely choice and also the skipper will probably come out. Also, Josh Hazlewood can be seen warming up with the ball which means that he will bowl for Australia.

My word! What an unreal game of cricket have we just witnessed! And the best part is that it is not over yet. That final blow from Dushmantha Chameera has levelled the scores and a Super Over will now follow. Sri Lanka have done the unthinkable here and who knows, they might just snatch victory here.

FOUR! Yes, we are indeed! Super over it is! Marcus Stoinis bowls a poor delivery, a full toss, outside off. Dushmantha Chameera walks down the pitch and smacks it over the bowler's head for a boundary. The match is tied and it will be decided via a Super Over now. Well, well, well. Just imagine, had the previous ball been called a wide, this match would have been dusted and we would be going to Canberra 1-1.

19.5 b 1

Touch fuller, outside off, on the tramline. Maheesh Theekshana reaches out for it and has a slash but misses. The batters take a bye. Matthew Wade throws the ball to Marcus Stoinis and he has a shy at his end but misses. Had that hit, it would have been curtains for Maheesh Theekshana. 5 needed from the last ball. Are we in for a Super Over? Also, on the replay it looks to be beyond the tramline. Have the Lankans been dealt a blow here with that ball not being called a wide?

19.4 6

SIX! BOOOMMM! The match is still not over! Stay where you are! Unreal attempt from Steven Smith though in the deep! He almost saved six runs for his side. Length ball, on middle. Maheesh Theekshana smacks it to deep mid-wicket. Steven Smith leaps and flicks the ball in. He injuries himself trying to do so. He touched the ropes on it's way back so the umpire rules it as a maximum after getting the confirmation. But credit to Steven Smith for pulling off such an effort. He walks off the field as he gets attended by the physios.

Oh my God! What happened here? Steven Smith seems to have injured himself badly while performing a miracle save. The ball was destined to clear the ropes but Smith flew like Superman and managed to claw it back in but the landing was rough and he hit his head right in the turf. The umpires though check the replay and a six has been given as Smith's body was already over the ropes when he tried to claw the ball back in.

Maheesh Theekshana is in at number 10.

19.3 W 0

OUT! CAUGHT! Is that the knockout blow? A full toss, on middle. Pathum Nissanka smashes it to deep square leg. Pat Cummins dives forward and takes a good low catch. Australia will be a little relieved now. This could have been a no ball as well but it dipped enough and Pathum Nissanka will have to depart. A fine knock comes to an end. Sri Lanka would be very proud of him no matter what the outcomes of this match comes. 12 needed from 3 balls. The umpires also tells Maheesh Theekshana the new man in that the batters did cross but not before the catch was taken, so he will be on strike.

19.2 2

Very full and outside off, Pathum Nissanka squeezes it out to long off. Two taken comfortably. Dushmantha Chameera was ready to sacrifice but the throw came at the striker's end.

19.1 4

FOUR! Pathum Nissanka is keeping Sri Lanka in the game! All hopes lies on his shoulders. Pathum Nissanka shimmies down the track and lifts this length ball over mid off for a boundary. 14 needed now!

19.1 wd 1

WIDE! Not the start Australia wanted. Length ball, way past the tramline on the off side. Wided.

Dushmantha Chameera is the new man in. Marcus Stoinis (2-0-13-0) has been thrown the ball to bowl the final over. Can he defend 18 runs?

18.3 6

SIX! BANG! Pathum Nissanka picked that up an picked it well. Short of a length, on middle. A horrizontal bat shot from Pathum Nissanka over deep mid-wicket. That made a cracking sound and it goes all the way for a biggie. Another boundary here and that would really lift the team up.

OUT! RUN OUT! Extraordinary fielding from Australia and just like that, Australia are back on top. Dasun Shanaka was taking on te charge but has to walk back to the pavilion now. Adam Zampa bowls a loopy ball, on middle. Pathum Nissanka bunts it to wide of deep mid-wicket. He pushes hard for the second run. Steven Smith quickly collects the ball and throws t in one motion to the bowler's end. Hits the bullseye and Dasun Shanaka is caught short. 50 needed from 24 balls.

Is that a Run-Out? Has Steven Smith pulled off something special here? The batters push hard for two and Smith with a bullet throw from the deep, shatters the stumps at the bowler's end. Dasun Shanaka looks to be in trouble and the decision is sent upstairs. The replays roll in and we can see that even the desperate dive couldn't save Shanaka. It is OUT on the big screen and the answer to the previous question is 'Yes, he can!'

15.5 1

Single taken.

OUT! Cleaned up! A wrong choice of shot from Dinesh Chandimal and that has led to his downfall. Just when Sri Lanka were finding their feet in the chase, Adam Zampa comes back in and tightens the screws, to an extent that the batter just decides to take him on. OUT! TAKEN! Soft dismissal and Danushka Gunathilaka is out for a golden duck! Short of a good length, around off and angling away. Gunathilaka hangs back and looks to cut it away. The ball is a bit too close to the body and Gunathilaka ends up hitting it straight to Ben McDermott at the cover region. McDermott takes a sharp catch and Josh Hazlewood provides Australia with a dream start.

0.4 1

Shorter this time, on the body. Nissanka sort of half pulls it down to the backward square leg fence for a run.

0.3 2

Pathum Nissanka and Sri Lanka are underway. Length again, this is pushed wider. Nissanka edges it wide of third man and picks up a couple.

0.2 0

And again! Lovely delivery from Josh yet again. Right around the top of off and nipping back in sharply off the surface. Nissanka gets beaten on the inside edge and the ball goes agonizingly past the off stump.

0.1 0

Right on the money from Josh Hazlewood! A good length delivery, around off and nipping back in. Nissanka looks to play away from the body but gets cut in half.

We are back for the chase! The players stride out to the middle. Pathum Nissanka and Danushka Gunathilaka are the openers for Sri Lanka. Josh Hazlewood to start with the ball. Here we go...

... THE CHASE ...

Now then! The pitch is looking a good one to bat on but Sri Lanka need their batters to step up this time around. They were clinical with the ball in the first T20I as well but were let down by their batters. Australian bowlers would be confident of defending this total with Adam Zampa, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Kane Richardson in their line up. Do join us to see how the chase unfolds.

Excellent death bowling by the visitors! Sri Lankan bowlers leaked runs upfront but just when Australia looked more dangerous, Nuwan Thushara got rid of Ben and scalped his maiden wicket in international cricket. After that, Wanindu Hasaranga also got a wicket and shifted the momentum towards them. The bowlers got timely wickets and tightened the screws on Australia. They were super at the death overs as well and would be the happier team heading into the break.

Australia again failed to deliver with the bat. Ben McDermott and Aaron Finch started off well and scored runs at a brisk pace but the former departed inside the Powerplay. Finch who was looking solid too departed later. Glenn Maxwell could not do much damage while Josh Inglis looked set for a good knock but fell in the 14th over. The partnership between Marcus Stoinis and Steven Smith also never got going but they have still managed to go past 160 this time.

Sri Lanka have replicated their bowling performance from the first match. Some excellent death bowling from the visitors and they have restricted the Aussies for a par total. No Australian batter could fire at the end. Matthew Wade did hit a couple of boundaries and helped his side go past 160. With a quality bowling attack, Australia would fancy their chances here.

Well bowled! A yorker, on off. Wade can only jam it out towards mid off for a single. 16 off the last over and Australia finish with 164/6!

19.5 6

SIX! First maximum of the night and it couldn't have come at a better time. Around off, Matthew Wade stays deep in his crease and launches it high and handsome over the long on fence for a biggie.

19.4 2

Full and wide, this is squeezed through covers for a couple. Good running.

19.3 4

FOUR! Just short but maybe Wanindu Hasaranga should have looked to save the boundary at this stage. Fullish, going across off and Wade heaves it aerially towards the square leg fence. Hasaranga runs to his left and dives in to take the catch but the ball eludes him and bounces over the ropes.

19.2 3

How did Cummins get it over there? Another slower one, on the pads. Pat Cummins is set up to swing across but has to check his shot in the end. The ball pops up off the splice of the bat and goes over the keeper's head. The batters run three before the ball is cut off.

19.1 0

A slower yorker, very close to off stump. Pat Cummins clears the front leg and looks to swipe across the line but is completely undone by the lack of pace.

Pat Cummins walks out to bat.

OUT! CAUGHT! Two in two for Dushmantha Chameera and he's on a hat-trick! Very smart bowling from Chameera. Short of a good length, dragged wider. Marcus Stoinis tries to fetch it and pull it across but only manges to get a top edge on it. The ball loops up and goes straight into the hands of Maheesh Theekshana at short third man. He makes no mistake and both set batters are now dismissed.

The new batter in is Matthew Wade.

OUT! TAKEN! This has been a brilliant fightback by Sri Lanka in the last couple of overs and they are rewarded with a wicket as well. A slower length ball, well outside off. Steven Smith stays leg side and reaches out. He throws everything at it but only manges to lift it towards the extra cover fence. Danushka Gunathilaka settles under it and takes a simple catch. Smith's hot and cold inning comes to an end.

18.2 0

Brilliant! The Lankan pacers are keeping slower and dragging it wider. This is fairly wide of off and Steven Smith just can't quite reach it to turn it on the leg side. A dot ball.

The keeper, Dinesh Chandimal seems interested and Dasun Shanaka does go for the review for a caught behind decision. Well, it is Maxwell who is on strike, so they had to go for it. They have got their man, OUT!

OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Loopy ball, outside off. Glenn Maxwell goes down on one knee and looks to reverse sweep. He misses and Dinesh Chandimal pouches the ball. He is very confident as he thinks there was something on it and appeals for a caught behind. The umpire says no. Dasun Shanaka opts for the review. And guess what? TOSS - Up goes the coin and lands in the favor of Sri Lanka. They have elected to BOWL first.

Sri Lanka bowlers are doing their job well and would want their batters to step up. They need to put a better performance in this match and need to fire together as a unit to bounce back. Accelerating while not losing wickets at regular intervals will be their main area of focus. They will hope that the bowling department can replicate the performance of the first match. Will Australia get another win? Or will Sri Lanka put up a show and level the series? We shall find out. Stay tuned for toss and team news.

Australia won the first T20I quite convincingly. They would be high on confidence but would want their batters to perform better. They are a well-balanced side and the T20 World champions have the winning momentum behind them as well. Their batting might be a little bit of concern but they are a champion side and would be backing themselves to come up stronger with the willow. They would look to further increase their lead and go 2-0 up in this encounter.

Hello folks! Welcome to the coverage of the second T20I between Australia and Sri Lanka. The Aussies are already 1-0 up in the five-match series and would look to seal another win. While Sri Lanka would eye a better performance and try to level the series.
