That is it from this match! Mahmudullah's troops go 1-0 up in the series after an emphatic win. The two sides will again meet on 4th August, Wednesday for the second T20I. The match will start at 1800 local (1200GMT). But the build-up will begin much in advance. Do join us for that. Till then, tada!

Nasum Ahmed is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his match-winning figures of 4-0-19-4.

The Bangladesh captain, Mahmudullah, is up for a chat - He says that they were 10-15 runs short. Adds that they executed their plans well. Adds that there needs to be an attacking mindset defending a low total and that's what they did. Mentions that hunger needs to be there in the tank to get a victory and adds that he is focusing on the game tomorrow.

The Australian skipper, Matthew Wade is up for a chat - He says that the bowlers did a terrific job and 132 was certainly getable. Adds that when they lost three wickets early on, they tried to rebuild the innings but weren't able to. Says he's disappointed that they got bowled out for such a low total. Mentions that he knew that Bangladesh were going to attack us with spin and when our bowlers gave us a chance for getting 132, our batters should  have chased it. Mentions that the wickets in West Indies spun a lot more and here the ball skidded on and they came to Bangladesh confident but just didn't execute their plans well.

Australia were in all sorts of trouble at the start! Alex Carey was sent back to the pavilion on the first ball off the innings. Josh Phillipe and Moises Henriques also followed him and Australia found themselves at 11/3. Repair work had to be done after that. Mitchell Marsh and the skipper, Matthew Wade then took the responsibility on their shoulders. The rescue job however failed as Wade's struggle came to an end. Marsh then stood like a rock alone but in the end, ran out of patience as he was undone on 45. After that, there was no sting in the Australian tail as they got bundled out for 108! A straightforward chase turned out to be a pretty frustrating one for the Australians.

Mahmudullah and his tigers have pulled of a famous victory! Their first over Australia in a T20I match! Mahedi Hasan provided Bangladesh the dream start as he removed Carey off his first ball. Nasum Ahmed and Shakib Al Hasan also joined the party and chipped in with a wicket each. Australia were put on the back foot right away and they struggled to keep the scoreboard ticking. Nasum Ahmed got the better of Wade as he scalped him in his comeback spell and then went on to pick up four wickets including the big fish, Mitchell Marsh. Bangladesh were relentless with the ball and Mustafizur Rahman and Shoriful Islam cleaned up the Australian tail as they picked up a couple of wickets each to bundle Australia out for 108!

Commentary

We are ready for the chase! Alex Carey and Josh Philippe are the Australian openers. Spin straightaway as Mahedi Hasan begins proceedings with the ball.

Right then, Australia need 132 runs to start the series with a win. To be honest the total to chase down is modest and they should get there comfortably but you never know in these sub-continent conditions. The Bangladeshi bowlers, specially the spinners will have to put on a show to get anything out of this one. Don't go anywhere as the chase begins soon.

The Australian bowling was impressive, to say the least. The pacers and the spinners bowled really well. Josh Hazlewood was the stand-out as he sent Soumya Sarkar early and then come back on to get rid of the skipper as well and later on got the big wicket of Shakib Al Hasan which stopped Bangladesh's flow. Mitchell Starc got two wickets and got to his 50 wickets in T20Is, the first Australian to do so. Adam Zampa and Andrew Tye too got a wicket each and Ashton Agar was the only one who did not get a wicket but was economical. Australia will be content with their performance and will look to come out and chase down the target without much fuss.

Bangladesh struggled with the bat. They got off to a disastrous start as Soumya Sarkar got out early. Mohammad Naim then worked hard for his 30 before throwing it away. The experienced Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah stitched up a partnership of 36 runs before the latter also got out. Shakib Al Hasan kept on toiling but was running out of partners and finally he got out as well. Bangladesh just kept on losing wickets and there was no momentum to the innings as they ended with a modest total of 131/7.

OUT! BOWLED! 50th T20I wicket for Mitchell Starc! Fuller length ball on middle, Afif Hossain looks to whip it across but is comprehensively beaten. The ball goes over his blade and shatters the stumps. BANGLADESH FINISH WITH 131/7.

19.51

Low full toss on middle, Hasan works it towards covers for a run.

19.41

Length ball on the pads and Hossain picks it up and lofts it straight to the deep mid-wicket fielder who takes the catch and throws it back, the batsmen get one.

19.41nb

No Ball! A comedy of errors of sorts! Starc misses the yorker and it's a high full toss on the hips which is chopped back onto the stumps by Hossain. The ball then goes towards backward point and the batsmen scamper for a couple. The umpires decide to go upstairs and after much discussion a No Ball is called but the runs are not awarded. Free Hit to follow!

Was that a no ball for height? Afif Hossain has been bowled here but he is not walking off. The umpires take it upstairs to check. It is indeed above the waist and the same is confirmed by the TV umpire.

19.41wd

WIDE! Short ball on middle, Afif Hossain sways away from it. Wide called for height.

19.34

FOUR! INNOVATIVE! Touch fuller on off, Afif Hossain paddle scoops it over the keeper's head for a boundary. Much needed boundary.

19.21

Very full around off, Hasan jams it to sweeper cover for a run.

19.12

Full length ball on off, Mahedi Hasan steers it towards point. The fielder there does well to put in a dive and stop the ball. Two runs aken.

Who will bowl the final over? Mitchell Starc it is! He will be looking for his 50th T20I wicket!

17.14

FOUR! Pitched up on off, slower one and Afif Hossain picks it up and smashes it over covers and into the fence.

He has to depart now.

A perfect start for the hosts. Alex Carey walks back disappointed.

For those who are still unaware, England will be welcoming India at their home soil for 5-match Test series with the first Test starting from 4th of August. It will also mark the commencement of the 2021-23 World Test Championship cycle and it will be exciting to see how these two teams fare against each other.

The two countries will be up against each other for the first time in a bilateral T20I contest. Before this, they have faced each other on four occasions and all of them have been World Cup contests. The T20 World Cup is around the corner and this series can prove to be the last chance for the players to put on a show to get into selectors' radars.

Hello and welcome to the 1st of 5 T20Is between Bangladesh and Australia. Both teams had contrasting T20I series against Zimbabwe and West Indies respectively as Bangladesh were dominant but Australia were thumped by the Windies. Bangladesh and Australia, both continue to struggle with squad fitness issues as several key players are either ruled out or will miss a part of this 5-match series. But, both teams still have more than enough quality to provide us with an entertaining match. We will be with you soon with the toss and playing XIs for both teams, so stick around for a while.
