Hello and a warm welcome to the coverage of Day 5 of the first Test between Bangladesh and Pakistan. Day 4 turned out to be a decisive day as Pakistan have finally taken the driver’s seat in this Test match after a spirited bowling effort and yet another century stand by their openers. The star of the show with the ball was Shaheen Afridi as he picked his fourth five-wicket haul and bundled out Bangladesh for just 157 to restrict their lead to 201. For Bangladesh, things were looking quite good after the first session but all went downhill after that as the wicket of Nurul Hasan triggered a collapse and they were restricted to much less than what they were looking for. The bowlers barring Taijul Islam failed to create enough chances and by the end of the day, Pakistan needed just 93 runs for the victory. Bangladesh need something special from here on otherwise things can end quite quickly here. Can Bangladesh fight back? We shall find out.

Earlier, in the day, Pakistan bowlers were impressive as they bundled out Bangladesh for 157 runs. Shaheen Afridi was the star with the ball as he took his fourth five-wicket haul and delivered under pressure for Pakistan. Bangladesh, on the other hand, were looking good as Liton Das made a classy fifty under pressure. But once he departed, things finished rather quickly for them. Their bowlers after that have failed to get a breakthrough and things look bleak for them now.

Bangladesh bowlers toiled hard but failed to get a breakthrough. Taijul Islam was again the pick of the bowlers as he created whatever half-chances Bangladesh managed to create. The other spinner Mehidy Hasan failed to match his consistency and that allowed Pakistan batters to get some quick runs. The seamers too were ineffective and leaked runs and that allowed Pakistan batters to score freely without any pressure. It looks difficult for Bangladesh from here on and the match is headed only in one direction unless Bangladesh produce something special from here on.

What a session for Pakistan! Their openers have put them in a driver's seat yet again and this time more decisively. Both of them played some smart cricket combining caution with aggression as they both completed their respective fifties. Abdullah Shafique is only the second player to be involved in a two century partnerships on a debut in a Test match and that shows the impact these two have made on this game. They have 93 more runs to score in this game and Pakistan will be hoping that the openers finish it off as early as possible tomorrow.

Bangladesh started with the star of the first innings, Taijul Islam and the pace of Ebadot Hossain at the other end. Both bowlers bowled well but were unable to get the breakthrough they required. The pitch has enough help to keep them interested and Taijul Islam towards the back end of the session got some balls to turn sharply and they will hope that the next session turns the game their way. Excellent session for Pakistan! After wrapping things quite quickly post-lunch, Pakistan openers have done well to negotiate this tough little phase before the Tea. Abid Ali the senior of the two, got some handy boundaries and his debutant partner, Abdullah Shafique once again showed maturity and the skills required at this level. So the first objective to play out this session is cleared now and they will be looking to carry on in the next session as they chase 202 to win the first Test.

...DAY 4, SESSION 2…

Mushfiqur Rahim started the day with a boundary but departed soon after, off the third ball of the day. Liton Das joined Yasir Ali and both started scoring runs at a brisk rate and took Bangladesh lead past 100. But just when debutant Yasir Ali was looking good, he got hit on his helmet off the bowling of Shaheen Afridi and had to walk off the field. Mehidy Hasan joined Liton Das and both had a good brief partnership but Mehidy lost his wicket just at the stroke of the lunch. Overall a decent session for Bangladesh as they have taken their lead to 159 runs and will be looking to pile on more runs in the next session. It has been a riveting session of Test cricket and do join us at 12.40 pm local (6.40 am GMT) for the post-lunch session.

Pakistan made the perfect start to the session as Hasan Ali took the wicket of Mushfiqur Rahim in the very first over. But apart from Shaheen Afridi, other bowlers failed to put enough pressure on Bangladesh batters as the runs started flowing. The bowlers were inconsistent with their line and lengths and spinners especially failed to trouble Bangladesh batters. Shaheen Afridi bowled some good short stuff and hit Yasir Ali on his helmet and had to walk off the field. Mehidy Hasan walked in and the partnership started building again but Sajid Khan just minutes before the lunch break got an important wicket of Mehidy Hasan. They have taken two wickets in this session and will be looking to finish off the Bangladesh innings as early as possible in the post-lunch session as anything more than 200 to chase can get tricky on this pitch.

Russell Domingo is down for the chat. He says that there is a still long way to go. He adds that it is 50-50 at the moment but they are still positive. He says that bowlers were fantastic yesterday and for today runs are important. He adds that 150 runs more will be important and the first hour will be crucial.

Shaheen Afridi is up for a chat. He says that he and Hasan Ali try to pitch in the good areas. Mentions that the wicket is really good for batting and is very slow so that try to bowl on good lengths. Tells that with the new ball, there is always a chance for swing so he tries to bowl with pace. Adds that he enjoys each and every format of the game. Says that Bangladesh have a good spin unit and they try to play the game and enjoy cricket.

With the match hanging in balance, the first session today holds the key. If Bangladesh batters can play out the first session without much damage they can put Pakistan under real pressure after that. The pitch has assistance for both seamers and spinners and it will become harder and harder to bat as the day progresses. From Pakistan point of view, they would like to finish the Bangladesh innings as early as possible as chasing anything over 200 in this pitch on the last day can get very tricky. The key wicket here is Mushfiqur Rahim and if Pakistan get him out early here, then the road ahead can get easy for them. Hello and a warm welcome to the coverage of Day 4 of the first Test between Bangladesh and Pakistan. Day 3 turned out to be a moving day of this Test as Bangladesh bundled out Pakistan for 286 taking 10 wickets in just two sessions. The star of the show was Taijul Islam as he bagged seven wickets to dismantle Pakistan hopes of taking a lead in this Test match. Abid Ali scored his fourth century but at the end of the second session, it was Bangladesh who finished with a lead of 44 runs. In the post-tea session, it was time for Pakistan bowlers to rule the show and they did that in style as they picked four wickets and gave away just 39 runs. The match is hanging right in the balance as Bangladesh lead by 83 runs with 6 wickets in hand. Which team will inch ahead at the end of Day 4? We shall find out soon.

Right then! That's the coverage from this day! Pakistan pacers have done well but they need to make sure that they don't let a partnership grow now like the first innings as it might take the game away from them. Earlier in the day, Taijul Islam  was the star of the day for Bangladesh as he bagged a seven-wicket haul and kept Pakistan batters on the back foot throughout the day. For Pakistan, it was Abid Ali  who got to his fourth century as wickets kept falling at the other end. There was some resistance shown by Faheem Ashraf at the end of their innings but eventually, Bangladesh bowlers managed to take 44 runs lead for their team at the end of the first innings. The game is evenly matched as 150 odd runs more by Bangladesh from here will make things quite interesting tomorrow. Remember, Pakistan will be batting last on this pitch and there will be enough turn for Bangladesh bowlers to make a match out of it.

Bangladesh top order have completely outdone the hard work their bowlers did earlier in the day. The top order failed to cope up with quality pace bowling by Pakistan bowlers and departed without troubling the scorers just like the first innings. Mushfiqur Rahim has again been the rock for Bangladesh, showing good technique and temperament while other batters failed to match him. Yasir Ali joined him and the duo managed to get Bangladesh to stumps without further damage. They have a lead of 83 runs and will like to build from here to give their bowlers a decent score to bowl at.

A good bowling display by Pakistan in this final session. Their bowlers were right on the money from the start and both Shaheen Afridi and Hasan Ali troubled Bangladesh top order with their swing and pace. Shaheen Afridi especially was lethal and combined his swing and seam with fearsome short bowling. He got three top wickets while Hasan Ali got the crucial wicket of Bangladesh captain, Mominul Haque. Nauman Ali and Faheem Ashraf  kept the pressure on after that but Bangladesh managed to survive without further damage.

Pakistan had the worst possible start as the debutant Abdullah Shafique and Azhar Ali departed in the very first over. Babar Azam along with Abid Ali stayed at the crease for some time but the former departed soon as Pakistan were reduced to 169-3 from 146-0. In the meanwhile, Abid Ali brought his fourth century at the other end and continued to hold one end up. But Fawad Alam who has been in superb form since his comeback in the international cricket also followed his captain back to the hut soon. Since then, Mohammad Rizwan has joined Abid Ali and the duo has survived few nervy moments and assured that Pakistan did not lose any further wickets. Day 3 of this Test match has followed the same pattern of the first two days of batting side losing wickets in heap in the first session. Will the second session be dominated by the batters? A very fruitful session for Bangladesh as they have managed to pick four wickets in the morning session. Taijul Islam started on the perfect note as he trapped both Abdullah Shafique and Azhar Ali in the very first over of the day. Ebadot Hossain bowling from the other end also kept the pressure on. Mehidy Hasan then joined his spin partner and got the big fish, Babar Azam straightaway. The spin duo continued to wreak havoc as Taijul Islam then got the wicket of Fawad Alam. He bowled throughout the session from one end and with the pitch helping spinners, expect the spin twins to bowl the bulk of the overs in the next session too. Pakistan still trail by 127 runs and Bangladesh will be looking to put more pressure on them in post-lunch session.
