Right then, this brings us to the end of this fascinating Test series between Bangladesh and Pakistan. Both the Test matches were closely contested but in the end, we have to say that Pakistan was a better team. They have clinched the series 2-0 and have also bagged 24 WTC points on the way. We will be back with more such thrilling action and till then, goodbye and cheers!

Babar Azam, the skipper of Pakistan, says that he enjoyed his bowling and he is glad that he got his first international wicket. Adds that their openers gave them a good start and their bowlers did a terrific job. Says that even though they lost a couple of days due to rain, they wanted to dominate the game and he is very happy with the win. Credits all the groundsmen by saying that they did a good job of covering the whole ground at all times.

The Bangladesh skipper, Mominul Haque, says that they had opportunity to get better in the second innings. He adds that middle order played well but they need to work on their top order. Tells that there were some positives for them and hopefully these players can continue their form in New Zealand.

Abid Ali is the Player of the Series. He says that the pitch was not easy to bat and it was turning. He adds that they wanted to play with a positive approach and everyone backed each other. He mentions that his domestic form helped him to perform in this series.

Sajid Khan is the Player of the Match for his brilliant bowling performance. He says that his captain and team management backed him and he is very happy. Tells that it is a team effort and everyone has contributed equally for the win.

Stay tuned for the Presentation!

Earlier in this game, Pakistan batters played pretty well on the tough Dhaka pitch as four batters notched up their fifty. The rain played spoilsport for almost two whole days and that made Pakistan declare for 300. Then, it was time for Pakistan bowlers to unleash their full potential and they did that in style as they bundled out Bangladesh for 87 runs. Bangladesh followed on and lost four wickets quickly but there was some sensible batting after that but eventually, it is Pakistan who have clinched a very unlikely victory here.

For the most part of the session, Pakistan bowlers didn't look like they will get four wickets in this session. But just when all hopes were fading, Babar Azam brought himself on and broke the partnership by dismissing Mehidy Hasan. Sajid Khan took his 10-wicket haul in the next over and soon followed it up with the 11th wicket. The last wicket took some time after that but Sajid Khan again came to the party and trapped Taijul Islam in front to hand Pakistan crucial 12 WTC points from this Test.

The final session saw Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan batting sensibly but just when it looked like Bangladesh will salvage a draw here, Babar Azam displayed his magic and took the wicket of Mehidy Hasan. The well set Shakib Al Hasan also departed in the next over and in no time they were nine down with Khaled Ahmed perishing on duck. Taijul Islam and Ebadot Hossain played out some overs but Sajid struck again and ended with 12 wickets in this Test match, to hand Pakistan a very special win.

What a Test match this has been! When two days were almost completely washed off, very few believed that this Test will get a result. But Pakistan believed and played some quality cricket and in the end, with less than half an hour remaining in this Test match, they have clinched a victory here.

Review! Taijul Islam has been given out here! He has taken a review against it. The Ball Tracker rolls in and it shows three reds. So Taijul Islam is out and Pakistan have won this Test match.

Commentary

We are back for the action again! Pakistan players are out there in the middle. The opening batters for Bangladesh, Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Shadman Islam are there in the middle too. Shaheen Afridi to start with the ball for Pakistan.

So Pakistan now need 10 wickets and have almost a full day in front of them now. The match now looks heavily in the favour of Pakistan and Bangladesh will have to come out with different tactics if they have to survive till the end of the day.

Shaheen Afridi set the tone with a brilliant first over on Day 4. After that, the spinners Sajid Khan and Nauman Ali bowling in tandem and created pressure from both ends and Sajid Khan eventually took his first five-wicket haul to restrict Bangladesh to 76/7 at the end of Day 4. Sajid Khan took the wicket of Taijul Islam in his very first over on Day 5 and then Shaheen Afridi got rid of Khaled Ahmed in the very next over. Sajid Khan took the final wicket of Shakib Al Hasan and finished with eight wickets in the end. Pakistan have enforced the follow-on with a lead of 213 runs. They are in with a real chance now and Pakistan will be hoping that they can continue their good work from the first innings.

Bangladesh's innings started on the worst possible note as Mahmudul Hasan Joy, the debutant departed for a duck in his first innings. Soon his opening partner followed him and wickets continued to crumble as none of the batters showed the application to spend some time in the middle. They came out with bizarre tactics of going for their shots on every possible opportunity and paid the price in return. Shakib Al Hasan their star all-rounder was their only hope on Day 5 morning but wickets kept falling at the other end and Bangladesh have been bundled out for 87 and Pakistan have enforced the follow-on!

Commentary

We are back for Bangladesh's batting! Pakistan fielders have taken the field. Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Shadman Islam walk out to bat. Shaheen Afridi will start with the ball.

Pakistan started their innings with another fifty run-stand by their openers. But soon both got out in quick succession. It was the experienced duo of Azhar Ali and Babar Azam that bailed them out and stitched together a century partnership. The rain played spoilsport as almost the whole of Day 2 and the entire Day 3 was washed out. On Day 4, both the overnight batters departed and then it was the pair of Fawad Alam and Mohammad Rizwan that took them to a formidable total before they decided to declare eventually. It looks like there is only one team that can win from hereon and it is Pakistan. Can their bowlers get early wickets and make this game more interesting? We shall find out.

Bangladesh bowlers were good on the first morning of this Test match. As Taijul Islam got both the openers in that session. But even though the conditions were quite helpful for bowlers, they failed to get breakthroughs and allowed partnerships to build after that. On the morning of Day 4, seamers bowled well and managed to take two early wickets but again gave away loose deliveries at regular intervals and are now on the back foot in this Test match.

An innings that lasted for more than three days, all thanks to the rain! So Pakistan have declared! They have 300 on the board and will be now looking to dismiss Bangladesh as early as possible. Still, a draw looks more likely but you never know anything can happen as the conditions are bowling-friendly out there.

98.31

Full and wide outside off. Alam carves it to deep cover for one. He gets to his 50 and that brings up 300 for Pakistan! And also comes the declaration! Pakistan declare at 300 for 4!

Drinks! A productive session for Pakistan so far. Both the batters have got some quick runs and have stitched together a hundred-run partnership. ...DAY 5, SESSION 3...

Pakistan bowlers found it difficult to get breakthroughs in this session as Bangladesh batters finally displayed some application out there in the middle. Sajid Khan eventually got the wicket of Liton Das and there was enough turn in the pitch to keep them interested. But some resilient batting by Bangladesh after that did not allow Pakistan to make further inroads. But just at the stroke of the Tea, the run-out of Rahim has brought them back into this game now. Can Pakistan take the remaining four wickets to clinch 12 WTC points from this Test match? All questions will be finally answered in the last session of this Test match coming our way. This is Test cricket at its best. Do join us for some intriguing action in the final session of this Test match at 3:00 pm Local time ( 9:00 am GMT).

The session started with Liton Das and Rahim building up a nice partnership much to the frustration of Pakistan bowlers. But just when things were getting calmer for Bangla Tigers, Liton Das perished at the score of 45 while trying to pull a half-tracker. The experienced duo of Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan then got together and stitched together a nice partnership as they combined caution with aggression beautifully. But just at the stroke of Tea, the brain-fade moment from two batters sent Rahim back to the pavilion as he was run-out. Bangladesh still trail by 66 runs. Will the run-out cost them this Test match? We shall find out.

OUT! RUN OUT! Oh, dear! Mushfiqur Rahim gets out just at the stroke of Tea and he would be absolutely gutted with himself! This is a huge moment in the context of this game and it is surely a body blow for Bangladesh. This was needless from Rahim and it could cost Bangladesh in the end. It was a flatter ball, on middle. Shakib Al Hasan tucks it to mid-wicket and goes for a run. Abdullah Shafique at mid-wicket collects the ball cleanly and throws it to the keeper Mohammad Rizwan who whips the bails off. Mushfiqur Rahim puts in a dive but his bat bounced off the ground and wasn't grounded before Rizwan took the bails off. The TV umpire has a good look at it and gives it out in the end. Mushfiqur Rahim walks back in anger and that will be Tea on Day 5.

They have gone upstairs for a Run-Out appeal! Mushfiqur Rahim has dived at the batter's end and can that save him? No, he has been given out! Big blow for Bangladesh.

Since then, Rahim and Liton Das got together and have stitched together a decent partnership to take them to Lunch without further damage. They are still 141 runs behind and have to bat two sessions out from hereon to salvage a draw here. Do join us for the second session which will begin at 12.40 pm Local (6.40 am GMT).

Another dominating performance by Pakistan bowlers. They came out in the morning with three more wickets needed to bundle out Bangladesh in the first innings and they did that pretty quickly as Sajid Khan finished with eight wickets under the belt and Shaheen Afridi took one wicket. They came back in the second innings as Bangladesh were made to follow-on and seamers got into the act immediately as they picked two wickets apiece to restrict Bangladesh to 25/4 in the ninth over. They have picked seven wickets in the first session and are just six wickets away from getting a famous win here.

We are all ready to begin! The Pakistan players are out there in the middle and so are the overnight Bangladesh batters Shakib Al Hasan and Taijul Islam. Shaheen Afridi to start for Pakistan.

This match needed some very dreadful cricket from one team to take us to a result and Bangladesh have done exactly that on Day 4. It is now upto Pakistan to build on that and get early wickets on Day 5 to put Bangladesh under more pressure on this final day. Pakistan seamers were not allowed to bowl yesterday after the first over because of fading light, but they will be ready to explode this morning and that makes the task of playing out this day even tougher for Bangladesh. The pitch is difficult to bat on and the quality of Pakistan bowlers makes it more daunting for Bangladesh. From Bangladesh point of view, they need to show some application out there in the middle. They came out with bizarre tactics of going for their shots despite wickets falling at regular intervals and if they bat in the same way on Day 5, then only rain can help them in this Test match. Talking about the weather, it looks promising compared to the previous four days of this Test match and that makes up for a thrilling final day of Test cricket. Stay tuned.

Hello and a warm welcome to the coverage of Day 5 of the second Test between Bangladesh and Pakistan. After two days of almost no cricket, the action on Day 4 finally provided cricket fans with some exciting cricket. The first session was delayed due to the wet outfield, but once the game started it was Pakistan who dominated the proceedings and have now taken the game to a situation where they are in with a real chance of victory on Day 5. Day 4 started with Bangladesh seamers bowling in good areas and getting rid of overnight Pakistan batters very early in the day. But things went downhill after that as first Fawad Alam and Mohammad Rizwan stitched together a century stand as Pakistan declared for 300. Then, Pakistan spinners and especially Sajid Khan who bagged six wickets completely dismantled Bangladesh batting as they are left tottering at 76/7 after the end of day 4 with 25 more needed to avoid follow on. Can Bangla Tigers salvage a draw in this Test match? Or will Pakistan hand Bangladesh a humiliating defeat in their own backyard? An interesting day of Test cricket coming up.

... Day 5, Session 1 …

Right then! This brings us to an end of an exciting Day 4 of this Test match after we were greeted by only rain in the previous two days. The forecast for Day 5 looks promising and we can expect another cracking day of Test cricket from these two teams. Do join us at 9:30 am local time (3:30 am GMT). Till then, goodbye and cheers!

Earlier in the day, after a late start to the first session, Bangladesh bowlers struck early to send back both the overnight batters back to the pavilion. But another brilliant century stand between Fawad Alam and Mohammad Rizwan took Pakistan to 300 before they eventually declared. The bowlers came in with some aggressive attitude and picked three Bangladesh wickets for almost nothing and that set the tone for a brilliant post-Tea session.

Bangladesh batters came out like they were chasing 201 in 20 overs here. They tried to hit every ball that was possible for them and ended up losing wickets at regular intervals. Mushfiqur Rahim was first to go early in the session but the shot-making continued even though wickets were falling regularly. It took bad light to stop them from self-exploding and in the end, they have lost a total of seven wickets and it looks too tough for Bangladesh from hereon.

Another session that was pocketed by Pakistan. The spin bowlers bowling in tandem were brilliant and kept the pressure on as Bangladesh batters came out with bizarre tactics. Sajid Khan got rid of Mushfiqur Rahim early in the session and got another wicket of Liton Das as Bangladesh batters looked in some sort of a strange hurry. The off-spinner then went onto take six wickets as Bangladesh batters struggled to show any application in the middle. Pakistan have taken seven wickets in no time and despite the rain and bad light, they are in with a chance to win this Test match.

Drinks! What a bizarre piece of batting by Bangladesh here! Okay, scratch that. The umpires have decided to end the day's play as the light is not enough. Pakistan would be mighty pleased with their show on Day 4 and a result looks likely now!

... Day 4, Session 3 ...

Bangladesh batters were helped by the fact that seamers were not allowed to bowl after the first over but that advantage did not last long. Mahmudul Hasan Joy on debut was unable to get off the mark in Test cricket as he went for a duck. Shanto joined Shadman Islam and both played out some overs after that. But just when one thought that they will not lose any further wicket, Shadman Islam departed in the ninth over, and just at the stroke of Tea, the Bangldeah skipper Mominul Haque was run out to sink them further. Can Bangladesh batters display better technique and skills in the next session? We shall find out. Join us for the same at 3:30 pm local (9:30 am GMT).

Some good aggressive intent shown by Pakistan in this short passage of play before Tea. The innings started with Shaheen Afridi setting the tone with a brilliant first over. But then the umpires decided that only spin can be bowled and both the spinners kept the pressure on as they bowled good nagging lines and lengths. They were getting some sharp turn and Sajid Khan got rid of debutant Mahmudul Hasan Joy for a duck. Khan went onto get another big wicket towards the fag end of the session. In the end, a good piece of fielding from Hasan Ali also sent back Bangladesh skipper, Mominul Haque, to take Pakistan right on the top.

What a session for Pakistan! They got a pretty big score and have picked up 3 quick wickets! They are surely on top currently but they would hope that light doesn't play spoilsport in the last session.

10.1W

OUT! RUN OUT! Poor work by Bangladesh. Loopy ball, on off. Haque pushes it to covers and takes off for a quick single. There is no need to take a risk like this just before Tea. Hasan Ali charges to the ball and fires a direct hit at the bowler's end. The TV umpire is called in and Mominul Haque is miles short of the crease! That also brings Tea on Day 4!

They have gone upstairs for a run out appeal. Mominul Haque is short of his crease as Hasan Ali fires in a good throw at the bowler's end. The third Bangladesh wicket goes down.

98.31

We are back for the second session of the day! Bangladesh players are out there in the middle. The Pakistan batters, Fawad Alam and Mohammad Rizwan are there in the middle too. Shakib Al Hasan to start for Bangladesh.

... Day 4, Session 2 ...

Here is a gentle reminder of the revised timings for the remaining two sessions : Session 2 - 1:10 pm local (7:10 am GMT) - 3:10 pm local (9:10 am GMT). Session 3 - 3:30 pm local (9:30 am GMT) - 5:30 pm local (11:30 am GMT).

Both the overnight batters for Pakistan started off with some boundaries but soon departed after adding just a few runs to their overnight score. Fawad Alam and Mohammad Rizwan survived a few close calls but they batted well to take Pakistan to Lunch without further damage. The conditions are not easy for batting and it will be interesting to see how Pakistan batters approach the next session of play. Do join us for the same at 1:10 pm local (7:10 am GMT)!

Bangladesh bowlers started on the right note, taking advantage of overcast conditions in the middle. Ebadot Hossain first got the wicket of Azhar Ali with a short ball and then Khaled Ahmed took his first Test wicket as he trapped Babar Azam in front of his stumps. The good work continued as Bangladesh bowlers kept the pressure on with their nagging lines and lengths. Overall a decent session for Bangladesh and they will be looking to get a few more wickets in the post-Lunch session

Finally, we had a whole session of play! After almost two whole days washed out due to rain, we finally had some entertaining cricket. Bangladesh were the better team in this session and would look to build on this after Lunch.

NOT OUT! A good-length delivery around off. Mohammad Rizwan is rooted to his crease as he looks to defend it but misses and gets hits on the pads. Bangladesh players appeal for an LBW and the umpire obliges and raises his finger. They check for caught behind but the replay shows that the ball bounced short of Liton Das.

WE ARE BACK! Boy, it feels so good to write that after being the weather guy for the last two days. The players make their way out to the middle. Babar Azam and Azhar Ali take the crease. Khaled Ahmed will finish his over that started on Day 2.

So here are the revised timings for today's sessions : Session 1 - 10:50 am local (4:50 am GMT) - 12:30 pm local (6:30 am GMT). Session 2 - 1:10 pm local (7:10 am GMT) - 3:10 pm local (9:10 am GMT). Session 3 - 3:30 pm local (9:30 am GMT) - 5:30 pm local (11:30 am GMT).

Update 10:10 am local (04:10 am GMT) - The umpires are out there in the middle for another inspection. Get ready folks, we might have a decision on the start time anytime soon. Bangladesh players can be seen in the huddle. Very optimistic signs out there, given what we have witnessed in the last few days. Finally, we have a start time folks! Play will start at 10:50 am local (4:50 am GMT) with 86 overs to be bowled in the day. But bad light will be an issue later on.

Update 9:50 am local (3:50 am GMT) - We are hearing that there will be another inspection in 20 minutes. Also, it is a pleasure of mine to inform you that the light has improved a lot now. If there is no further rain, we could get action pretty soon.

Update 9:45 am local (3:45 am GMT) - Okay, I can see the umpires walking out to the middle. They are having a word with the chief curator. Also, the forecast for Day 4 is for cloudy weather. So, we might not have a lot of rain but light could be an issue later on. The umpires had a chat with Mominul Haque and there could be an official update soon. We will update you about the same in a short while.

Update 9:30 am local (3:30 am GMT) - Well, the live visuals show that it is quite right out there and it seems like the covers are being taken off slow and steadily! The broadcasters say that the chief curator feels that if it doesn't rain anymore, it would take his team around 90 minutes to get the ground ready. That means that we could expect the play to start at around 11 am local (5 am GMT). Also, yay the music is back!

Update 9:20 am local (3:20 am GMT) - Okay, I have good news and bad news for you. Let me start with the bad news. We are hearing that there is a light drizzle at Dhaka so we are likely in for a delayed start. The good news is that the forecast is much, much better for Day 4 and the teams have reached the ground and are not at their hotels like they were throughout Day 3. So, once the drizzle stops and the groundstaff gets to work, we are likely to get quite a bit of cricket here!

Hello and a warm welcome to the coverage of Day 4 of the second Test between Bangladesh and Pakistan. After a dominating show by rain gods on Day 2, they went on a more brutal mode on Day 3 and made sure that covers are completely intact throughout the day. We are still only in the first innings of this Test match and any possibility of a result from hereon looks bleak. But there have been Test matches that have been completed in two or two and half days and we can’t rule out a possibility of such a scenario again. But for even that to happen, we need two full days of cricket and let’s hope we achieve that objective first. So will we see some quality Test cricket finally today? Or will rain emerge victorious yet again?

... Day 4, Session 1 ...

Right then! We will be back on the 7th of December for Day 4 of this Test match with some hope of getting some quality Test cricket. The action is scheduled to start at 9:30 am local (3:30 am GMT). Do join us for that. Till then, Goodbye and take care!

Here it is...the inevitable decision of call-off has been finally taken and it brings us to the end of our waiting game for Day 3 of this Test match. Almost two days have been washed out in this Test and a possibility of a result looks bleak from hereon. But cricket is a game of uncertainties and who knows we might see some exciting Test cricket over the course of the next two days. On this optimistic note let's gear up for Day 4 of this Test match. The forecast isn't that great for Day 4 too and given where the match is, it seems tough that we will get a result. However, there is also the option of innings forfeit, if both captains agree for a one-inning shootout. But for now, all we can do is pray for Day 4.

Update 1:15 pm local (7:15 am GMT) - The wait continues. The live visuals paint a gloomy picture right now. Just a reminder that even if it stops raining, it will take a lot of time for the groundstaff to get the ground ready for play. Yes, the drainage at this venue is brilliant but important to keep in mind that it has been raining since last night. Meanwhile, our coverage of the Big Bash League clash between Sydney Thunder and Brisbane Heat has just started. You could switch tabs and take a look at that. But don't go too far!

Update 12:46 pm local (6:46 am GMT) - In case you were wondering, Lunch was taken a while ago and has ended at 12:40 pm local (6:40 am GMT). No other update regarding the rain as it continues to drizzle down at Dhaka.

A pretty big piece of news regarding Pakistan's next series is coming our way. Kieron Pollard, the West Indies ODI and T20I skipper will not travel to Pakistan as he is yet to recover from the hamstring injury he picked up at the T20 World Cup. Shai Hope has been appointed ODI captain while Nicholas Pooran will be leading in T20Is. Devon Thomas has replaced Pollard in ODIs while Rovman Powell will take his place in T20Is.

Breaking News - Cricket Australia has just issued a statement stating that the fifth Ashes Test, which was supposed to be held at Perth, will now take place somewhere else. The new venue for the Test is yet to be announced.

Update 11:40 am local (5:40 am GMT) - We are not too far away from the scheduled Lunch break but there are no chances of play in this session. It looks more and more likely that Day 3 will be washed out too. In case you were wondering what to do if this day gets washed out then we have the answer for you. The Big Bash League started on 5th December and in a few hours, Sydney Thunder will take on Brisbane Heat. So make sure that you join my colleagues at 8:15 am GMT for that clash. The start of the league saw a one-sided affair as Sydney Sixers beat Melbourne Stars by a whopping margin of 152 runs. We can expect more entertainment in the Big Bash League this season!

Update 11:02 am local (5:02 am GMT) - Still no update. The groundstaff were out in the middle so I wondered if the rain had stopped. But live visuals show that it is pouring quite heavily out there. The broadcasters are playing some funky music at this moment. Not quite soulful as the Hindi songs they were playing last evening but something to keep us entertained nonetheless. Meanwhile, India have won the Test in Mumbai and won the series by a 1-0 margin. Switch tabs to find out who the Player of the Match will be for that game. Will it be Ajaz Patel for his 10-wicket haul or Mayank Agarwal for his match-winning ton in the first innings?

Over in Mumbai, India are only a couple of wickets away from getting a big win against New Zealand. My colleagues are covering the same, so join them to enjoy that action. In the meanwhile, the light has improved in Dhaka but the rain is still on, so any chances of covers coming off and play starting anytime soon is a distant dream.

Update 10:17 am local (4:17 am GMT) - Still no update and the teams are still in their hotels. Live visuals show that the rain is steady and the covers are going nowhere. I am missing the soulful Hindi music that the broadcasters were playing last evening. Hope they play it again!

Update 9:21 am local (3:21 am GMT) - Folks, we are around 10 minutes away from the scheduled start but I do have some piece of bad news. I have read multiple reports that the Match Referee has asked both the teams to stay in their hotels for the time being. This decision has been taken as it has been raining since last night in Dhaka. The start of Day 3 is delayed! The broadcasters inform that more updates will be given at 10 am local (4 am GMT).

We have lost a lot of overs so far in this Test match but if rain gods stay away then Day 3 can well turn out to be a moving day of this Test match. There was enough turn on the first day of this Test match to trouble the batters and it is going to get further difficult for the batters. The overcast conditions also bring seamers into the picture and overall a good first innings total will now play a crucial role in deciding the result of this Test match. If Pakistan can score a little quickly today and notch up another 200 runs then they can go all out against a fragile Bangladesh top order. From Bangladesh's point of view, they would want to bundle out Pakistan as early as possible and then take the game forward from thereon. But if the rain continues to intervene and if we have Day 3 washed out without much cricket then a draw seems a most likely result. But let’s hope that cricket, and not the rain will decide the outcome of this game. Stay tuned.

Hello and a warm welcome to the coverage of Day 3 of the second Test between Bangladesh and Pakistan. There was more focus on weather than cricket on Day 2 as rain dominated the proceedings and made sure that both Pakistan and Bangladesh fans end up being equally disappointed at the end of the day. If we talk about cricket, there was a brief session of play in which 38 balls were bowled in which both Azhar Ali and Babar Azam scored runs freely and added 27 runs to the overnight score. Azhar Ali notched up his fifty while Babar Azam is moving towards his first Test century as a Pakistan captain. The conditions were overcast and Mominul Haque trusted his seam bowlers. But both the bowlers were completely ineffective and gave away too many freebies to Pakistan batters before the rain came back to end their misery. The forecast for Day 3 is not that promising, to be honest, and let us hope that rain stays away.

... Day 3, Session 1 ...

Right then. That is all we have from this rain-marred day of Test cricket. Not much cricket on this day and plenty of rain. Day 3 is scheduled to begin at 9:30 am local (3:30 am GMT). The forecast is not too great, to be honest with you. But we can hope. Do join us for the same!

Only 38 balls were bowled on Day 2 but clearly that brief period was dominated by Pakistan. 27 runs were scored as Azhar Ali notched up his fifty on the way. Bangladesh seamers were all over the park as they bowled way too many loose deliveries and displayed no potential to take any advantage of overhead conditions. So far, the match has been dominated by Pakistan and if the rain stays away on Day 3 we might see some more free-flowing batting by Pakistan batters.

So the official news is out! The day has been called off.

Update 3:00 pm local (9:00 am GMT) -  It is still raining and any possibility of play today looks bleak. Tea has been taken already and is due to end. The broadcasters are scheduled to come live at 3:05 pm local (9:05 am GMT).

Update 2:38 pm local (8:38 am GMT) - Nothing really to update at this point. The rain is quite heavy and the end might be near.

Update 1:50 pm local (7:50 am GMT) -  The live pictures show that our beloved friend, rain is still out there. So take a deep breath and continue the waiting game patiently. Some lovely retro Hindi music is being played by the broadcaster. Lovely weather for such songs but not the weather to play cricket in.

Update 1:21 pm local (7:21 am GMT) - Guess who is back? Our good old friend, rain! The players come off and the covers come on. Quite heavy too at this point.

We are all set to begin! Bangladesh players are there out in the middle. The overnight Pakistan batters, Babar Azam and Azhar Ali are there in the middle too. Khaled Ahmed to start for Bangladesh.

Update 12:20 pm local (6:20 am GMT) - Well, the drizzle has stopped now. The covers are off and the umpires are out in the middle to take a look. But given what has happened in the last hour or so, let us not get our hopes too high and let us wait patiently. Fingers crossed! There will be another inspection in about 20 minutes and if the weather holds good, the action will start at 12:50 pm local (6:50 am GMT).

Over in Australia, The Ashes are set to begin on 8th December. The first Test will be played at The Gabba in Brisbane and Pat Cummins, the newly appointed Test skipper of Australia has announced his Playing XI for the same. It is as follows. Australian XI for the first Test: David Warner, Marcus Harris, Marnus Labuschagne, Steven Smith, Travis Head, Cameron Green, Alex Carey, Pat Cummins (C), Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc. Meanwhile, the English skipper, Joe Root, has said that he prefers to reveal his XI at the coin toss on Wednesday.

Update 12:10 pm local (6:10 am GMT) - I am afraid that I have no good news. There was a steady spell of drizzle and the covers are firmly in place. In fact, more covers have been brought in to cover the entire square now. Floodlights are in full effect currently. Things do not look bright. Quite literally.

... Day 2, Session 2 ...

Lunch has been taken! So, the last two sessions have seen no play in this Test. The umpires have taken Lunch and we hope for some action after that. Do join us at 12:10 pm local (6:10 am GMT) for the second session of Day 2.

Update 11:16 am local (5:16 am GMT) - Boy oh boy. Just as the broadcasters were getting ready to come live. We saw a very light drizzle. The covers are back on the pitch! It has been that kind of a day, folks and stuff like this is likely gonna happen a few more times over the next couple of days. The players are in their whites as the drizzle is very light.

Update 11 am local (5 am GMT) - Okay, the covers are coming back off again. As always, we will keep you updated further. Let us see what the umpires decide. They walk out to the middle now for an inspection. They wander around the pitch a bit and walk back out. We will resume the action at 11:20 am local (5:20 am GMT). That was quick.

Update 10:45 am local (4:45 am GMT) - Alright. Folks, do one thing. Read everything that I wrote in the last update and imagine everything opposite to that. The rain has returned, so have the covers and needless to say, the inspection has been postponed.

Update 10:20 am local (4:20 am GMT) - We have some good news! Live visuals show that the covers are being taken off and it looks like the light has improved too. Fingers crossed! There will be an inspection at 10:40 am local (4:40 am GMT).

Update 10:10 am local (4:10 am GMT) - Same old, same old. The covers remain firmly in place and we will wait and watch. In case you guys hadn't heard, the BCCI took a big decision regarding India's upcoming tour of South Africa. There were doubts regarding the tour due to the emergence of the Omicron variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus but both the boards have confirmed that the tour is on. 'India’s tour of South Africa, 2021-22, will proceed with the revised dates and itinerary. The team will participate in a three-match Test series followed by a three-match ODI series starting December 26th, 2021.' is what the BCCI said in a statement. The first Test was scheduled to start on 17th December but that has been pushed back. There were also 4 T20I matches scheduled but they will be played later now.

Update 9:40 am local (3:40 am GMT) -  The drizzle has gotten heavier. The waiting saga continues. My colleagues are covering the second Test between India and New Zealand underway in Mumbai. The hosts have a lead of 332 and would look to extend that further on Day 3. With about 20 minutes to go for action, make sure to check our coverage of that game too. We will bring you updates from Dhaka as we get them.

Update 9:20 am local (3:20 am GMT) - Uh oh, I hate to be the bearer of bad news. We are hearing that there is a consistent drizzle at the ground at this point in time. It is almost guaranteed that the start will be delayed here.

The overnight batters for Pakistan, Azhar Ali and Babar Azam, will be looking to continue their good work and put a big first-innings score on the board. The pitch is expected to get difficult to bat on and with rain also around the corner, a big first-innings total will help them to dictate the proceedings further. Both the experienced batters have looked solid so far and we can expect at least one of them to bat long today. Bangladesh, on the other hand, will want their spin trio to bowl more consistent lines and lengths and take the remaining Pakistan wickets as quickly as possible. There is enough help in this pitch for them and if they fail to get wickets in the first session today, things can get quite difficult for them as they will be batting last on this pitch. There is likely to be rain around too and we can just hope that it stays away but with WTC points at stake, expect both teams to push for a win here. Who will edge ahead at the end of Day 2? Either way, quality Test cricket awaits us. Stay tuned.

Hello and a very warm welcome to the coverage of Day 2 of the second Test between Bangladesh and Pakistan. We had 57 overs of play on Day 1 and it is Pakistan who will be relatively happier with their performance. The day started with Pakistan openers putting a solid 59-run stand but Bangladesh spinners soon got into the act and Taijul Islam dismissed both the openers in quick succession. After a shared first session, the experienced duo of Azhar Ali and Babar Azam steadied the ship and guided them to 161 without any further damage. There was no play possible after Tea though as the light faded away. There is enough turn on offer for Bangladesh bowlers and the first session will be key here as the batting will only get tougher from here on. An interesting day of Test cricket coming up.

... Day 2, Session 1 ...

That is all from Day 1. Pakistan would be disappointed as the two batters were looking in good touch out in the middle but nature had different plays. We will see you on 5th December for Day 2 though. The first ball will be bowled at 9:30 am local (3:30 am GMT). So mark your alarms accordingly. Cheers!

Earlier in the day, after winning the toss, Babar Azam decided to bat first. Pakistan openers started from where they left in the first Test and notched up another fifty-run partnership as they dominated the first hour of the day. But in the second hour of the play, Bangladesh spinners got into the act and Taijul Islam sent the two in-form openers back to the hut. The spinners were brilliant before the Lunch and it looked like they will get more wickets in the next session. But the experienced duo of Azhar Ali and Babar Azam weathered the storm and have managed to stitch together a partnership of 91 runs. There was a short rain break in the middle session but the final break to the proceedings of the day was put by the fading light and there was no play possible after Tea

The bails come off! That is stumps on Day 1. The umpires have decided that play cannot continue further on Day 1. The match will start at 9:30 am local on Day 2 instead of 10 am. But, we are likely to have rain interruptions for the next two days.

Update 3:55 pm local (9:55 am GMT) - Well, the covers are being brought out now. They have covered the adjacent strips but not the pitch on which the match is being played. No rain at this point though.

Update 3:40 pm local (9:40 am GMT) - The umpires walk out to the middle. Michael Gough takes a reading with the lightmeter and then walks back out of the ground. The waiting game continues. We are now hearing that there will another inspection at 4:05 pm local (10:05 am GMT).

Update 3:30 pm local (9:30 am GMT) - Well, the live visuals show that the players are still sitting in the dressing rooms. The sun is nowhere to be seen and it has only gotten a bit darker. Wait and watch is all we can do.

Well, well. The umpires are checking the lightmeter currently. The floodlights have been on since the first over of the game since it has been very cloudy. Wow, the on-air commentators say that the umpires asked Bangladesh to bowl only with spinners but the hosts wanted to use the pacers. So now, the light has been offered to the batters and the waiting game continues!

... Day 1, Session 3 …

Bangladesh bowlers will be disappointed with their performance in this session. There was enough turn for them to exploit but the spinners were inconsistent and gave away too many freebies. They just could not build enough pressure and that has put them on the back foot now after the end of the second session. They need their bowlers to stand up in the post-Tea session because if they give away too many runs in the first innings, things can get difficult for them when they bat last on this pitch. Join us for the last session of the day at 3 pm local (9 am GMT)!

A pretty good session for Pakistan! They have not lost a single wicket and have managed to keep the scoreboard ticking. There was turn for spinners but both the experienced batters negotiated it well and managed to take their team to Tea without any damage in this session. There was a rain break in the middle but both kept their concentration going and have taken Pakistan to calmer and safer shores.

We are back! The umpires make their way out to the middle. Bangladesh players are there in the middle too. The Pakistan batters, Babar Azam and Azhar Ali, also make their way into the middle now. Shakib Al Hasan to start after a short rain break.

Update - 1:40 pm local (7:40 am GMT) - The rain has stopped and the covers are coming off. We should resume soon.

HISTORY IN MUMBAI! Ajaz Patel, a Mumbai-born New Zealander becomes the third-ever overall and first Kiwi bowler to take a 10-wicket haul in a Test match innings. Yes, you read that right. Patel took 10 wickets in an innings against India. You don't see that often. He will surely remember that for a long time. Patel grew up in Mumbai and he would have dreamt of playing in front of that crowd and when he did, he created history. He joins the elite list of Jim Laker and Anil Kumble. What an achievement!

Update 1:31 pm local (7:31 am GMT) - Bad news folks! It has started raining and players are going off as the covers come in. The drainage system on this ground is pretty good and so it can dry quickly once the rain stops.

... Day 1, Session 2 ...

Bangladesh seamers had overcast conditions to help them initially but they failed to bowl at the right areas consistently and pretty much wasted the new ball. But once spinners came in they found an appreciable amount of turn from the turf and pressure started building. Taijul Islam, the star of the last game made an impact again as he sent back both the set openers back to the hut. Shakib Al Hasan at the other end, was also accurate and overall it was a good comeback by Bangladesh in this session after that Drinks break. So a shared session in the end but Bangladesh have the momentum to their side going into the next session. Do join us for the same at 12:40 pm local (6:40 am GMT).

The conditions were overcast and there was help for seamers initially but the Pakistan openers were solid and put another fifty-run stand. But as the spinners came on, the runs started to dry up and first Abdullah Shafique and later Abid Ali departed to bring some panic in the Pakistan dressing room. Azhar Ali and Babar Azam had some nervy moments but managed to take their team to Lunch without further damage. There is enough turn on offer for batters to be cautious and it will be interesting how Pakistan batters deal with that in the next session

A session of two halves here! The first hour till Drinks was dominated by Pakistan openers but Bangladesh spinners have found good turn and have managed to take two important wickets in the next hour of play. The pitch is showing its tricks early in this game and a fascinating post-Lunch session is coming up.

We are all set to begin! The umpires are out there in the middle. Bangladesh players are there too. The Pakistan openers Abid Ali and Abdullah Shafique make their way in the middle now. Ebadot Hossain will start for Bangladesh.

Mominul Haque, the skipper of Bangladesh, says that they would have batted first but now would look to restrict them to a low score. Adds that the overcast conditions will help the pacers. Mentions that the top order needs to step up. Informs that that there are three changes in their side.

Babar Azam, the skipper of Pakistan, says that the wicket looks dry and they will look to put a big total on the board. Adds that the openers are batting really well and the middle order now needs to step up. Mentions that spinners will play a big role in this game. Informs that they are playing the same side.

Athar Ali Khan is down for the pitch report. He says that teams prefer to bat here after winning the toss. Adds that the pitch looks quite decent and is very hard. Says that there might be a bit of moisture due to the overcast conditions and that might help the seamers early on.

Bangladesh (Playing XI) - Shadman Islam, Mahmudul Hasan Joy (In place of Saif Hassan), Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mominul Haque (C), Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan (In place of Yasir Ali), Liton Das (WK), Mehidy Hasan, Taijul Islam, Khaled Ahmed (In place of Abu Jayed), Ebadot Hossain.

Pakistan (Unchanged Playing XI) - Abid Ali, Abdullah Shafique, Azhar Ali, Babar Azam (C), Fawad Alam, Mohammad Rizwan (WK), Faheem Ashraf, Hasan Ali, Sajid Khan, Nauman Ali, Shaheen Afridi.

TOSS - It's time for the all-important coin toss now. Up goes the coin and lands in the favor of Pakistan. They have elected to BAT first.

Bangladesh have their perennial problems to deal with coming into this second Test. Their top order faltered again in both the innings of the Test match and gave away any advantage gained by them at the end of the first innings. They failed to deal with the swing and pace of Pakistan bowlers and with Saif Hassan ruled out they will be hoping that the new opening partnership that takes the field will give them a better start. The good news for them is certainly the return of Shakib Al Hasan as the star all-rounder will strengthen both their batting and bowling in this game. If their batting can put up decent scores on the board, then their bowling has enough strength to take 20 wickets in a Test match, especially if the wicket assists the spinners more. Can Bangladesh make a comeback and avoid a series loss at home? Or will Pakistan hand a whitewash to Bangla Tigers at their home turf? We shall find out. Stay tuned.

The first Test turned out to be a test of grit and determination of the Pakistan team. They were put under pressure throughout the course of the game but every time they found a way to come out on the top. Their openers were fantastic and dished out a century partnership in both the innings of the Test. The bowling was dominated by their seamers as Hasan Ali and Shaheen Afridi bagged a five-wicket haul in the first and second innings respectively. But it was not a perfect game for them by any stretch of the imagination. The Pakistan middle order faltered after a century stand by their openers in the first innings and coming into this game, the likes of Babar Azam, Fawad Alam and Azhar Ali will be looking to make more contributions. Their spinners too were not that effective and with Dhaka's pitch known to assist spin a little more, the spinners will be eyeing more impact in this game. Pakistan have a well-settled unit and will be looking to seal the series 2-0. Can Bangladesh stop them? We shall find out.

Hello and a warm welcome to Day 1 of the second Test between Bangladesh and Pakistan. The action now shifts to Dhaka and Bangladesh will hope that the change in venue also brings a change in fortune for them. It was Pakistan who came out victorious in the first Test but the game was quite evenly poised almost till Lunch on Day 4. But in Test cricket, it is about playing consistent cricket over the course of five days and that is where Pakistan inched ahead and in the end, registered a comfortable victory. Can Bangladesh bring more discipline to their game and manage to level this series at their national capital. Or will Pakistan register a crucial away series win in this second cycle of the World Test Championship? Either way, some quality Test cricket awaits us.
