Right then! The T20 World Cup is underway and we have had two great matches on the first day. The action now moves to Group A now. On 18th October, Ireland will face Netherlands at 2 pm Local (10 am GMT) and then Sri Lanka will face Namibia at 6 pm Local (2 pm GMT). Make sure you join us for that. Till then, take care and goodbye!

Kyle Coetzer, the skipper of Scotland, says that the Bangladeshi bowlers were outstanding and they were blown away a bit. Adds that Greaves was sensational with the bat and they have a lot of belief in their squad. Further adds that winning a game like this does boost their confidence a lot and this further strengthens their belief. Says that they will analyze after this game about how they can improve their game further. Finishes by saying that the team members really back each other.

Mahmudullah, the skipper of Bangladesh, says the wicket was good and the target was chaseable. Credits his bowlers by saying that they bowled really well but it was their batters who did not perform well. Adds that Scotland batted well after losing wickets in the middle overs. Tells that they will regroup and hopes that they do not repeat these mistakes in the next game and win the match. Signs off by saying that the wicket was very good to bat on but they need to pull their socks up now.

Chris Greaves, PLAYER OF THE MATCH, says they were in trouble and it does not always go that way, they needed to re-build and he is delighted he could be the one to play the crucial knock. States they had something to bowl at and power-hitting at the end was unbelievable. Adds he is glad he could contribute to his team's success. Finishes by saying that it feels incredible to be a Scottish cricketer at this moment.

What a show it was by Scotland! They were pumped up thanks to the blazing finish they got to their batting and came out with intent in the field. All the bowlers except for Michael Leask bowled really well and kept the pressure on the batters. Brad Wheal got 3 wickets and went for only 24 runs in his spell. Chris Greaves got 2 wickets while Josh Davey and Mark Watt chipped in with 1 wicket each. It was a team performance by them and even their fielding was superb. Calum MacLeod in particular was brilliant and took 3 catches in the field. Safyaan Sharif did go for runs in the last over but they had enough in their kitty to win this game. Overall, they will be very happy with their show in the game. This is just the way they would have wanted to start their campaign in the T20 World Cup.

Bangladesh would have wanted a good start given the kind of experience they have in their batting ranks but that did not happen. Soumya Sarkar and Liton Das fell very cheaply and they were 18 for 2. Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim then repaired things with a good stand in the middle but the required run rate kept creeping up. First, Shakib Al Hasan fell while looking to up the ante and then Mushfiqur Rahim followed him soon. Mahmudullah and Afif Hossain hit some boundaries in the death overs to keep the game alive but their departure in successive overs was the final nail in the coffin for Bangladesh. Mahedi Hasan did hit a few boundaries in the last over, but it was not enough for them.

What a win for Scotland! They were down and out in the first innings but came back strong to put on a good score on the board. Then they walked out on the field and bowled with fire to defend it. What a way to get the T20 World Cup underway for Scotland. Bangladesh, on the other hand, would be very disappointed with the way this game turned out for them. Celebrations in the Scotland camp and they have deserved this victory!

Commentary

We are set for the chase to begin! The players of Scotland have made their way out to the middle! Liton Das and Soumya Sarkar are the opening batters of Bangladesh who are at the crease! Brad Wheal to start with the ball.

... THE RUN CHASE ...

The target is not a big one but Scotland probably have momentum on their side. They though will need wickets early on, if they do not manage to get a few, Bangladesh have a lot of quality to make a mockery of this chase. Stay tuned for the second half in a bit.

Chris Greaves is down for a chat. He says that he enjoyed that knock and it was an important partnership. Adds that it feels nice to contribute in a stand like that with Watt. Says that there is a bit of purchase for the spinners here and he is looking forward to contributing with that too.

Bangladesh bowled really well but will be very disappointed with letting Scotland off the hook. The pacers did a decent job in the Powerplay and then the spinners wreaked havoc. Mahedi Hasan and Shakib Al Hasan had combined figures of 8-0-36-5. However, the second half was not that great for them as they let the Scotland lower order score close to 90 runs.

Scotland have one man to thank and that is Chris Greaves. However, the start was not all that bad for them, they did lose their skipper early but George Munsey took them to safer shores. Once the right-hander fell, the procession began. They slipped to 53 for 6 from 45 for 1. Then though came the fightback, Greaves and Mark Watt batted really well and recorded the highest 7th wicket stand for their country. Watt fell but Greaves continued. He was unlucky to not get to a well-deserved half ton but is the sole reason for his side getting to the total they did.

What a recovery from Scotland! We still do not feel they are close to a par score but they have given themselves something to bowl at. Also, had they been offered 140 when they were reeling at 53 for 6, they would have taken it with both hands.

The players of Bangladesh and Scotland stride out for their respective national anthems! The national anthem of Scotland will be followed by the national anthem of Bangladesh. We are done with the national anthems of both sides and the players of Bangladesh are in a huddle before taking the field. Kyle Coetzer and George Munsey are the opening batters for Scotland who are at the crease! The players take the knee to protest against racism. Taskin Ahmed to start with the ball. Here we go...

Pitch Report - Murali Karthik says it is the same pitch as the first game. Anjum Chopra says 165 should be a good score. Adds that there is a sheen on it and there should be dew and hence, the skipper wanted to bowl. Adds the seamers might do the trick but spinners will also have a role to play. Ends by saying around 170 would be what teams could target to score.

Kyle Coetzer, the skipper of Scotland, says putting runs on the board will put pressure on the team batting second. Adds that they have pretty much everything covered as far as the balance of the side is concerned and it is about executing the plans now.

Mahmudullah, the skipper of Bangladesh, says it looks a good wicket and there should be plenty of runs in it and he wants to chase it down. Adds they are looking forward to the game. Mentions they want to play good cricket and hope they come out on the winning side. Informs they have got three all-rounders and two seamers.

Bangladesh (Playing XI) - Liton Das, Soumya Sarkar, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah (C), Afif Hossain, Nurul Hasan (WK), Mahedi Hasan, Mohammad Saifuddin, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman.

Scotland (Playing XI) - Kyle Coetzer (C), George Munsey, Matthew Cross (WK), Richie Berrington, Calum MacLeod, Michael Leask, Chris Greaves, Mark Watt, Josh Davey, Safyaan Sharif, Brad Wheal.

Toss - Both the captains are out in the middle for the coin toss. Up goes the coin and lands in favor of Bangladesh. They will BOWL first!

So, it is Oman who won the first game of the T20 World Cup! Quite a one-sided affair. They proved to be way too strong for PNG. After electing to bowl, they restricted PNG to a very low score and they made a mockery of the chase. A morale boosting win.

Scotland too, have had a good ride so far in this tournament as they won their warm-up fixtures against Netherlands and Namibia, but now they have a tough ask in front of them when they will lock horns with Bangladesh in their very first league game. They have some quality players in the form of Matthew Cross, Richie Berrington and their skipper, Kyle Coetzer and this Scotland team do have the potential to fight hard and hand Bangladesh a defeat. Will they be able to do so? We shall find that soon. Stay tuned for toss and further updates as it promises to be an exciting battle.

Bangladesh would be high on confidence coming into the tournament as they have won a couple of T20I series against a very good Australian and New Zealand side. They have a nice blend of youth and experience in the form of Mahedi Hasan, Afif Hossain, Shamim Hossain, Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim. They are led by an experienced player in the form of Mahmudullah and the Bangla Tigers would certainly start as favorites in this qualifying stage.

Hello folks! Welcome to game number 2 of the much-anticipated T20 World Cup! It is the clash in Group B where Bangladesh will face Scotland. Both these teams would be playing their first game of the competition and they will be eager to start on a winning note, thereby staying ahead in the race for the Super 12 stage.
