Sri Lanka started the session on the right foot. They grabbed the big wicket of Mushfiqur Rahim within the first hour and put Bangladesh under immense pressure. But since then it's been only about the batters. Shakib Al Hasan came in and started scoring freely. He notched up his half-century in just 61 deliveries. Litton Das as well was looking solid out there in the middle. The duo has put together 96 runs and has helped their side take a lead of 8 runs. Sri Lanka on the flip side, have not been at their best. They have failed to cause any sort of trouble. There is some assistance for the bowlers, but the visitors have not been able to exploit the conditions. Coming into the post-Lunch session, Sri Lanka will be hoping to break this partnership as quickly as possible. While Bangladesh will look to extend their lead. Bangladesh will be coming into this session with some sort of confidence now and if they do continue to score runs without losing any wickets in the next session then a draw seems like an ideal result. Says that it was a great feeling after four years, not actually four years, he was out of cricket from all formats and then COVID hit, so technically it was good to get a century after around two years. Have to say this is the crucial pair for them as the batters to follow are not in the best of forms. Right from the start Sri Lanka dominated the day. Chandimal and Mathews scored tons and put on a huge partnership. They batted for two sessions before Chandimal fell. Once he was dismissed, wickets kept falling at regular intervals but Mathews ensured that his side stretched the lead over 100 before the visitors were bundled out. Then it was their bowlers who came to the fore yet again and have taken Sri Lanka in the driver’s seat.

Have to say it has been a perfect day for Sri Lanka and they are firm favourites to win this game now! They had just around 15 overs to bowl at Bangladesh and they would have been pretty happy with two wickets but they have got 4. The top order of Bangladesh has failed yet again and that has now put them in deep trouble heading into Day 5.

End of a brilliant batting performance from Sri Lanka and it is their experienced campaigner, Angelo Mathews who has yet again stood tall for his side. Back-to-back hundreds from Mathews and a fine century from Dinesh Chandinal has ensured that Sri Lanka get a healthy first innings lead of 140. The Sri Lankan openers laid a good foundation for the batters to follow and then it was the 199-run stand between Chandimal and Mathews that turned the tide in tourist's favour. They did lose wickets in a cluster in the last session of Day 4, but having said that, they would have surely taken this score at the start of their innings.

Bangladesh's bowlers had to toil hard to pick up 10 wickets and in the end, they got their reward in the last session of Day 4. The hosts bowled well only in patches and they failed to get wickets at regular intervals. The only 2 bowlers who got into the wickets column were Ebadot Hossain and Shakib Al Hasan as they grabbed four and five wickets respectively. Bangladesh's batters now have their task cut out as their top order have to negotiate a tricky period before Stumps on Day 4. We are in for an exciting passage of play.

The hosts on the other hand, have tried everything, they have bowled 6 bowlers today but with no success. They will now try to stem the run-flow and the best way of doing that is by taking wickets. Will we see a fightback from them or will the visitors continue to dominate?

Yet another excellent session for the Lankans and they have batted themselves into a position from where they probably can't lose the game and infact, push on for a victory. Both Chandimal and Mathews continued from where they left off in the first session. The two however, played with a lot more intent in this session especially after getting to their tons. The idea is clear now, score quickly, get a good lead and probably try and bowl a few overs to the Bangladesh batters today itself.

Bangladesh on the other hand, will look to break this stand at first in the afternoon session. That will be their first task as the two have looked untroubled against the spinners and the pacers. The wicket is turning and there is uneven bounce but still a good one to bat on. Is there a hero though for the hosts? If not, they will fall well behind in the game. End of an excellent session for the Lankans! A wicket-less one and they could not have asked for a better start to Day 4. Yes, they probably would have wished they could have scored a little more quickly but they will be very pleased with how things have gone so far. The deficit has been wiped off and they now lead by 4 runs. It was not easy going, the wicket did play tricks but Chandimal and Mathews have batted brilliantly. They have added over 100 runs and Sri Lanka will hope they can continue the good work.

Let us begin with some positive news, it is dry out there and the forecast is good too for today so we can expect a full day’s play. Also, play will begin early and we should have 98 overs on Day 4. A long day ahead so what can we expect?

... Day 4, Session 1 ...

The visitors only trail by 83 runs now and Sri Lanka will be eyeing to bat for as long as possible on Day 4. Bangladesh on the other hand will hope to take a few wickets quickly and look to gain any sort of a lead. The wicket is providing some assistance and we expect it to do more on Day 4 which promises to be an exciting one. It will be an early start on Day 4, 30 mins early to be precise with play starting at 9 am IST (3.30 am GMT). Do join us then and the build-up will start much sooner. This Test however seems to be heading for another draw. The game is quite in the balance at the moment. Bangladesh did well in the morning session and it is Sri Lanka who will be happier with the last one. Both Angelo Mathews and Dhananjaya de Silva weathered the storm earlier on and scored freely. They got their half tons up but just as the stand looked dangerous Shakib Al Hasan struck. Dinesh Chandimal then came out and showed great resistance before light played its part.

UPDATE 3.10 pm IST (9.40 am GMT) - We have the news all cricketing fans have been waiting for. Play will resume at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT) and the play is scheduled to go on for a couple of hours, i.e., till 5.30 pm IST (12 pm GMT). This will however depend on the light and also the weather but for now, play will start in 20 minutes' time.

UPDATE 2.55 pm IST (9.25 am GMT) -  Live pictures from the ground show that almost all the covers are now off and the pitch is getting uncovered as well which is great news. The inspection is about 5 minutes away and hopefully, we can get some play in before the end of the day.

UPDATE 2.45 pm IST (9.15 am GMT) - No positive news from the ground yet. There will be another inspection in about 15 minutes, i.e., at 3 pm IST (9.30 am GMT). Stay tuned for further updates.

UPDATE 2.30 pm IST (9 am GMT) - The covers do seem like coming off! The overhead conditions are still not the best though but there is an improvement. The drainage here is quite good as if no more rain, we can be optimistic about some play today. Stay tuned for any updates after the inspection which is about in a few minutes.

UPDATE 1.45 pm IST (8.15 am GMT) - The sky looks clear now and the rain has stopped. There is some movement on the ground as well. Hope we get an official word soon. Also, there will be an inspection at 2.30 pm IST (9 am GMT) which means that early Tea will be taken.

There has been a forecast of rain playing spoilsport in both Test matches but we got lucky in the first game. Not so much in this match though but hopefully, it is just a passing shower and play can resume right after the Lunch interval. It is a crucial day for both sides as they continue to fight to get ahead in the game. But who will manage to do so? Stick around to find out.

Bangladesh had just the start they needed as Ebadot Hossain came out firing on all cylinders, picking up a wicket in the very first over of the day and then troubling the batters with the short ball as well. Shakib Al Hasan bowled well in tandem with Hossain and after a bit of wait, did get the important wicket of the Sri Lankan skipper. Once both bowlers were given a break, the others just couldn't keep on the pressure and the likes of Taijul Islam and Khaled Ahmed haven't been able to create wicket-taking opportunities. Bangladesh will now be hoping to get back into their stride after the break and pick up early wickets.

Another session of Test cricket has flown by and it is the visitors, who after some early trouble have edged the morning session on Day 3. The nightwatchman, Kasun Rajitha lasted just one ball and after a sluggish start, skipper Dimuth Karunaratne too fell after a well-made 80. Since then, Angelo Mathews and especially Dhananjaya de Silva have done well to muster up a few important runs and their partnership currently sits at 46 runs. Sri Lanka will need both of them to carry on in the same way in the upcoming session and get closer to the Bangladesh total.

Well, that was dramatic. A long wait to start the final over while the groundsmen were on their toes waiting for the rain. The over starts and there we have hit, the rain pelts down and the umpires call for covers. A bit of a bizarre end to the session. 67 runs were scored in 24.1 overs and Sri Lanka also lost a couple of wickets as they still trail by 155 runs.
