Right then, that is all we have from this game. The action continues on Friday, May 13th as Bangalore will go head-to-head against Punjab in another crucial encounter of this 15th edition of the Indian T20 League. That game will start at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). As you know, over coverage will start in advance. So do join us for the same. Till then, goodbye and cheers!

Daniel Sams is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his brilliant spell of 4-0-16-3. He says that the first few games did not go according to the plan and he had some time to reflect on it and he understood that he was focusing more on the batters and decided to focus on what he is good at after that. Tells that they had different plans for the different batters and they had a plan to bowl short if batters get comfortable. Mentions that he is happy to get the opportunity with the bat. Says that the pitches in this season have been helpful for the bowlers and adds that he is happy with the nature of the wicket today.

Rohit Sharma, the skipper of Mumbai, says looking at how the pitch was playing and after losing wickets at the start, it was intense but they kept calm and did the job. Adds that he understands this Wankhede pitch and it was nice to see bowlers get into the game, there was bounce and swing from both the sides. Tells that they are giving few chances to some youngsters although the bottom-line stays to win the game. On Varma, Rohit feels he could be an all-formats player for India as he has the temperament and hunger to finish the games. He is on the right path. On Bumrah, he says they have played a lot together so he knows his role really well. Admits that Pollard has been the stalwart for Mumbai, but keeping an eye on the future plans, they made the call and it was Pollard who came up to them and was okay with the decision.

Time for the presentation.

Zaheer Khan is down for a chat. He says that the win was important and one is out there to experience the thrill of winning the match and they have talked about this in the camp and have tried hard to keep the motivation up. Mentions that overall this season of the Indian T20 League has been exciting as a lot of new players got the opportunity and it's exciting to see fast bowlers coming up and the speedometer going higher and higher. Tells that they are just trying to look at some new personnel and giving some players a go to make them experience the pressure of the Indian T20 League. Says that Pollard has been the real force and one of the main contributors to the success of Mumbai and he was part of the decision and as a member of a core group, he was all in for giving youngsters an opportunity.

MS Dhoni, the skipper of Chennai, says irrespective of how the wicket is, anything below 130 is difficult to defend but his bowlers showed a lot of character, both Mukesh Choudhary and Simarjeet Singh were superb and games like these will help them in believe in themselves. Adds that India have gone through a period where they were no extraordinary bench of fast bowlers but the Indian T20 League is giving opportunity and the seamers are getting bold and are getting confident after playing a few games. Tells that Mukesh Choudhary and Simarjeet Singh were a big positive, there are some away with injuries and there are few more up the sleeves. Mentions that it was a chance of survival for the batters, they should have played the way they wanted after facing few deliveries but credit to Mumbai, they bowled well, but the batters needed some application. Hopes they learn each passing games.

Time for some interviews!

Credit though to Simarjeet Singh and Mukesh Choudhary who rocked Mumbai inside the Powerplay with 4 wickets. That might have got the Chennai fans and the players to believe. Hrithik Shokeen and Tilak Varma though played brilliantly. The two showed great maturity and responsibility. They added just under 50 before Hrithik fell. The stand though had taken their side close to a victory and in the end, Tilak along with David ensured there were no more wickets to fall and took their side over the line.

A comprehensive defeat for Chennai in a game they just had to win to keep their hopes alive. Now, THEY ARE OFFICIALLY OUT OF THE TOURNAMENT! They just didn't turn up with the bat. Their top order were blown away by Sams, Bumrah and Riley Meredith. It was Dhoni who solely took them close to the 100-run mark but that was never going to be enough.

Commentary

We are back! The players are out in the middle. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan are the openers for Mumbai. Quik wickets will be key for Chennai and here is Mukesh Choudhary to find one.

... The Run Chase ...

Not a big total and Mumbai should definitely fancy a win here. Chennai need a miracle to win this one and also to keep their playoff hopes alive. The chase is coming up soon.

Riley Meredith is up for a chat. He says that it was a terrific effort and everyone bowled well. Tells that the ball was swinging in the 7-8th over and that is unusual but he is not complaining. Mentions that the ball before the wicket ball of Rayudu was a loose delivery and he got lucky in the next ball to get an inside edge. Tells that the pace on deliveries were troubling the batters so he did not ball many off-pace deliveries today.

A really sub-standard batting from Chennai. No doubt they will be disappointed with it. It was filled with poor shot selections and not building a partnership in the middle. They were 5 down inside Powerplay and it was always what Dhoni does from thereon. He and Bravo did well to calm things down but Bravo never looked settled. He fell and the pressure was on Dhoni who did his best to help his team reach a below-par total, their bowlers have a tough job in hand now.

This is Mumbai at its best! What a bowling display it was from the five-time champions. The surface was assisting the seamers and Mumbai used it with utmost perfection to bundle out Chennai for just 97. They started well and build the pressure early on and got the reward quickly. Rohit Sharma shuffled the pack quite nicely and apart from Hrithik Shokeen, everyone was in the wickets column. Daniel Sams was the pick with three wickets. A superb display from Mumbai!

OUT! RUN OUT! Ohh...in a bid to keep Dhoni on the strike in the next over, Mukesh Choudhary charges towards the bowler's end to steal a bye but fails to make it as Ishan Kishan nails a direct hit at the batter's end. It is a short ball on middle. Dhoni ducks under it and the batters try to steal a bye but Ishan Kishan who is aware nails a direct hit and Chennai are bowled out for 97!

A run out appeal! Looks like Mukesh Choudhary is in danger and a single frame is enough to make the decision.

15.50

Back of a length again, around off. Dhoni cuts it to point this time.

15.46

SIX! Dhoni with a biggie! Riley Meredith is not learning and bowls it short on middle. Dhoni pulls it over deep square leg for a maximum. This is vintage Dhoni, team is staring down the barrel and MSD delivers!

15.30

Back of a length, on off. Dhoni goes back and blocks it calmly.

15.20

On the shorter side again, around off. Dhoni punches it to point.

15.14

FOUR! Chennai are on the back foot but Dhoni is making sure that they have at least something to bowl at. A shorter delivery on middle and leg. Dhoni is ready for that pulls it towards deep backward square leg for a boundary.

EDGED BUT WIDE! FOUR! Length and on off, Mukesh Choudhary looks to defend, this goes off the outside edge, past the diving Kishan and down to the third man fence. Chennai won't mind how they come as long as they do. They also need a lot more.

13.50

On middle, defended.

13.40

Short and outside off, left alone.

Mukesh Choudhary is the last man in.

13.3W

OUT! TAKEN! Number 9 down and Ramandeep Singh gets a wicket! Length and on off, Maheesh Theekshana looks to hit it on the up over covers. It goes off the splice and straight to Rohit Sharma in that position.

13.20

That was a snorter! Shorter and on middle, this one takes off. Maheesh Theekshana is taken by surprise. He looks to fend it away, it goes off the higher part of the bat on the leg side for one.

13.11

Shorter and on off, this is pushed through covers for one.

DRINKS! It seemed for a while that Bravo and Dhoni will take Chennai to a respectable total but a double-wicket over from Kumar Kartikeya has put those hopes to rest now. It is all about MS Dhoni now and how much he can score from hereon. Mumbai will be pretty happy with their performance so far and would be looking to wrap this up as quickly as possible. Ramandeep Singh is into the attack now.

Dhoni ducks under it and the batters try to steal a bye but Ishan Kishan who is aware nails a direct hit and Chennai are bowled out for 97!

This is a huge blow for Chennai and courtesy of a very unusual reason. There is powercut issue at the stadium and that is why DRS could not be taken as Devon Conway was given LBW. It looked sliding down leg to the naked eye and Chennai camp will be very disappointed.

Wide! Short in length and outside off, shaping away. Left alone.

On a length and on off. Ali blocks it out.

Moeen Ali is the next man in.

OUT! LBW! Mumbai strike in the very first over and Devon Conway cannot even think of reviewing it as the DRS is not available due to some power-cut issue (Simon Doull on-air informs). Sams serves a full ball, slanting around middle and leg. Conway looks to flick but misses and gets hit on the pads. A huge appeal and up goes the finger. Devon Conway walks back on a golden duck.

Sams start with a full ball, angling around middle. Gaikwad wrists it to mid on for a single. Chennai are underway.

We are all set to begin! Mumbai players are in huddle and they disperse now to take their respective positions. Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad are the openers for Chennai. Daniel Sams will start with the ball for Mumbai. Here we go....

So Mumbai have finally decided to drop Kieron Pollard and young Tristan Stubbs who impressed everyone in the CSA T20 Challenge 2022 is being given an opportunity. Chennai, on the other hand, are looking quite settled and would be hoping that their openers fire yet again today.

MS Dhoni, the skipper of Chennai, says that batting first have worked well for them so far. Informs that they are playing the same team. Tells that Jadeja is kind of a player who allows them to try out different combinations with his all-round skills. Mentions that they give respect to each and every game and that is the best way to prepare and irrespective of the opposition they try to prepare in the same way.

Rohit Sharma, the skipper of Mumbai, says they will bowl first due to the nature of the ground. Informs they have made a couple of changes keeping an eye on the future. Informs Pollard is not playing as Stubbs replaces him. Hrithik Shokeen comes in for Ashwin. Mentions that they had a conversation with Pollard, he came up and was ready for it. They want to try a few youngsters and see what they have to offer. On the pitch, he says it looks good and hopes it stays the same throughout. Tells that it is a great rivalry against Chennai but they are focusing on themselves.

Chennai (Unchanged Playing XI) - Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devon Conway, Shivam Dube, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (C) (WK), Moeen Ali, Robin Uthappa, Dwayne Bravo, Simarjeet Singh, Maheesh Theekshana, Mukesh Choudhary.

Mumbai (Playing XI) - Rohit Sharma (C), Ishan Kishan (WK), Tilak Varma, Tristan Stubbs (On debut) (In place of Kieron Pollard), Ramandeep Singh, Tim David, Daniel Sams, Kumar Kartikeya, Jasprit Bumrah, Riley Meredith, Hrithik Shokeen (In place of Murugan Ashwin).

TOSS - The coin goes up and lands in favour of Mumbai. They have elected to BOWL first.

Tristan Stubbs, the South African is seen getting his cap in the Mumbai huddle. So expect at least one change in the Mumbai lineup.

PITCH REPORT - Matthew Hayden is near the pitch. He says the heat is not there but the humidity is outrageous. Adds there is live grass and the pacers will enjoy it. Mentions that the spinners will not be amongst the wicket. Ends by saying that 170-run on this wicket could be quite achievable.

A win for Chennai will also confirm that Mumbai will be finishing last this season. They would surely want to avoid the wooden spoon. Also, they would not want Chennai to do the double over them. Stay tuned for the toss…

Chennai seem to have rediscovered their mojo with Conway and Gaikwad firing at the top of the order. Their bowling too is now looking settled with Mukesh Choudhary and Simarjeet Singh bowling well in the Powerplay. They will though miss the services of Ravindra Jadeja due to an injury for the rest of the season. Mumbai, on the other hand, would like their batting group to fire and especially their skipper, Rohit Sharma who is due for a big score.

It is Mumbai locking horns against Chennai. Arguably the biggest rivalry of this tournament. This time around though, one will be playing for pride and the other to keep its tournament alive. Mumbai who are already out will look to spoil Chennai’s party whereas Chennai need to win all their games if they are to have a chance of going through. Despite not a lot being at stake for one, the intensity won’t drop and we expect a cracker. Welcome to the coverage.
