That's your lot for the day. The third ODI is on 13th July 2021 at Edgbaston. The action will begin at 1 pm local (12 pm GMT) but you can join us in advance for the build-up. Until then, it's goodbye and cheers from our side.

Got to feel bad for Hasan Ali. He had an outstanding match, both with the ball and bat. His fifer broke the back of England's batting and when the chips were down, his attacking batting sent shivers in the English camp. Despite all his heroics, he had to end on the losing side this evening and that's very unfortunate. Anyway, it's part and parcel of the game.

Lewis Gregory, the MAN OF THE MATCH, says that it was the case of taking it as deep as possible and bat a few overs. Tells that the ball nibbled a bit all day and he felt that they could pitch it up and get some wickets. Feels that the guys were outstanding. Mentions that it is a fantastic opportunity for the lads to show what they are capable of.

Ben Stokes, the England skipper, is thrilled with the way they showed intent with the bat early on. Mentions that it was a tricky middle period for them with the bat but also adds that it was pleasing to see the inexperienced players showing the attacking mindset. Calls England's performance with the ball clinical and tells that picking early wickets always helps while defending scores. States that Gregory and Carse are capable batsmen and their partnership gave England a good total. Says that they have won the series but there is nothing like continuing the winning streak and promises to come even harder in the next match.

Babar Azam, the Pakistan skipper, says that they bowled well in the first 10 overs but they needed to maintain the same intensity. Adds that Hasan Ali bowled outstandingly well. Tells that they did not utilize the first 10 overs with the bat and did not get any big partnerships either and they need to rectify that in the next game. Goes onto say that Hasan Ali was brilliant and Saud Shakeel showed his passion and he performed well. Adds that they will try their best to win the last match as crucial World Cup Super League points are at stake.

Time for the presentation...

After a stuttering batting show by the English batsmen, it was necessary for their bowlers to put the best foot forward. Saqib Mahmood and Lewis Gregory were once again brilliant with the new balls as they maintained a tight grip on the scoring rate along with giving Pakistan the initial blows. The second line of the English bowling attack comprising Craig Overton, Brydon Carse and Matt Parkinson was quite impressive as well. Altogether, it was a complete team effort although the victory didn't come as easy as it came in Cardiff.

Chasing a target of 248, all Pakistan needed was a steady start. But their top order flopped again. Fakhar, Babar and Rizwan, the in-form batsmen for them, had yet another forgetful outing with the bat. The Pakistan skipper did play a few delightful shots before getting out but Zaman struggled big-time during his stay. In the first 10 overs, three wickets were down and the touring team was always behind the 8-ball from thereon. Saud Shakeel was the only batsman who showed the composure and desire to stay out in the middle and build an inning. He notched up his maiden ODI fifty and kept a little bit of hope alive for Pakistan. There were a couple of moments when Pakistan managed to scare England. One was when Hasan Ali took Matt Parkinson to the cleaners and another was when the stand between Saud and Shaheen Afridi was blossoming. It was taking Pakistan slowly but steadily towards the target. One thing is for sure, had Pakistan been more sensible in preserving their wickets, they would have ended on the right side of the result. This is something for the team management to ponder on.

It was not a perfect game by any means for England as they had their fair share of struggle, mainly with the bat. After starting on the wrong note, Salt and Vince steadied the innings with their attacking partnership. Just when it appeared that the hosts will run away with a big score on the board, Pakistan bounced back via their spinners. Shakeel and Shadab combined to remove both the set batsmen and then the Three Lions suffered a collapse. They lost 5 wickets in the blink of an eye and were staring down the barrel. Then, came an unlikely alliance between Gregory and Carse. The pair added 69 runs for the 8th wicket and helped England recover from a precarious situation.

Victory for England and they have taken an unassailable lead in the series along with strengthening their position at the top in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League.

Commentary

We are back for the run chase! The England players stride out to the middle, followed by Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq. Saqib Mahmood will start with the ball.

Pakistan were led by Hasan Ali! He was sensational and continued his great form in international cricket over the last few months. Hasan picked up a 5-fer and was instrumental in reducing England in the middle overs. Shaheen Afridi was terrific in his opening spell while Shadab Khan was good in his 10 overs. Saud Shakeel bowled only 3 overs but he started the collapse as he picked up the wicket of the well-set Philip Salt. Haris Rauf started off poorly but then came back well to pick up two in the end. Their fielding was a little poor and they would be disappointed with that. They need to bat much better than what they did in the last game if they want to stay alive in the series. Will they be able to chase it down? We will find out as the chase begins in a while.

England did not get off to a great start as they lost two early wickets, in the form of Dawid Malan and Zak Crawley but Philip Salt and James Vince counter-attacked and put England in a position of strength. Both reached their respective half-centuries and played very well. They though fell in quick succession and that triggered a collapse as they stumbled to 160 for 7. Gregory and Carse stitched a very good stand and have given England a good total on the board. They could have got a little more had Gregory stayed till the end but it was not to be.

A good comeback from England here as they were 160 for 7 at one stage but a very good partnership between Lewis Gregory and Brydon Carse has got them to 247. It is still not a match-winning total but the pitch is supporting the bowlers as well and they would not be too disappointed. Pakistan, on the other hand, would be a tad disappointed that they gave away some runs towards the end but they would know that they are not out of this game yet.

OUT! CAUGHT! There's the five-fer for Hasan Ali. Good length ball on middle, Mahmood looks to smack it over deep mid-wicket but does not time it well. It goes towards deep mid-wicket where Haris Rauf takes a simple catch. ENGLAND BOWLED OUT ON 247.

SHAHEEN IS SAFE! The number 10 runs out of patience after leaving the last two balls. Shortish ball outside off, Afridi tries to force it off his back foot but fails to make any connection. Is there some noise? England seem interested and go for the DRS. The Ultra Edge shows a flat line. Waste of a review but that doesn't matter too much at this stage.

Drinks! The last over has brought this chase back to life somewhat! Pakistan appeared down and out but Hasan Ali's onslaught in the 30th over has given them a semblance of hope. He is already moved to 29 off 14 balls and if he stays out there any longer, Pakistan will start to fancy their chances. England are still on top but they would want to dismiss Hasan Ali as soon as possible.

NOT OUT! Brilliant bowling by Parkinson. He dishes out a googly around off and gets it to spin away from the forward defensive prod of Shakeel. It beats the outside edge and Simpson is quick to dislodge the bails. They appeal and it's referred upstairs. The third umpire first checks for the outside edge which is absent and then goes on to check for the stumping. The replays show that Shakeel's back leg is inside the line.

An appeal for stumping taken upstairs. Simpson looks confident. Saud Shakeel is just in. Not out will be the signal.

The significance of number 100 in this match - 1) It will be the 100th ODI for Ben Stokes. 2) Lord's is at 100 per cent capacity.

It's toss time, well, not really! The light drizzle continues to irritate everyone at Lord's and it has forced the groundsmen to keep the cover on. If a few trusted Twitter handles are to be believed, the conditions have brightened up slightly and it's a lot better than what it was a few minutes back. The good thing is that the weather radar for the afternoon is quite promising.

Weather update - There is a slight drizzle in the air at the moment in London. Not too worrisome though. The covers are out but in all likelihood, it will clear soon and we will have a prompt start. Fingers crossed.

Hello and welcome everyone for the second ODI between England and Pakistan in this 3-match series. We are here at Lord's and it's buzzing with spectators. It's a full house at the Mecca of Cricket. The hosts too will be brimming with confidence after the heroics in the last match, that too with a second-string team, and now will be aiming to close the series here. Pakistan, on the flip side, will be hurt and will be eyeing revenge. They were completely outclassed in Cardiff and suffered a humiliating loss. Can they make a comeback to level the series? Let's find out.
