Right then, that concludes our proceedings of this first Test match. It has been a dominant performance by the Proteas and with that, they have grabbed crucial World Test Championship points as well from this historic win. The caravan will now move to Manchester for the second Test. That game is set to take place on Thursday, 25th of August at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT). Our build-up though begins a lot earlier. So do join us for the same. Till then, goodbye and cheers!

Kagiso Rabada the Player of the Match. He says that is special to contribute to a team win and adds that to do it in Lords’s is pretty special. Tells that he did not even know about the stats, he just tried to follow his process and stick to his strengths, and then the rest took care of itself. Talks about his learnings from the 2017 tour and says that is all about getting the lengths right and adjusting with the Duke ball. He applauds Keshav Maharaj for his performance in this game and says that he has been an outstanding performer for them over the years. Also mentions that his two wickets really helped them. Signs off by saying that he is looking forward to the next game.

Dean Elgar the captain of South Africa says that this is a brilliant effort from the boys and they did not expect the game to finish so quickly. Tells that they wanted to bat long and hard and tells that Anrich Nortje's spell changed the game. Mentions that his decisions come with positive intent and he likes his boys to express themselves. Adds that they played in a South African way, their unique way. Talks about his captaincy and says that it depends on his gut feeling and the move to bring Keshav Maharaj was his gut feeling and then Anrich Nortje bowled with the speed of light. Also credits Sarel Erwee and tells that the partnership between them has been quite good and adds that he is an experienced player and wants his boys to enjoy this win.

Ben Stokes the skipper of England tells that they are disappointed to lose but they cannot drift away from their plans after just one loss. Mentions that they will continue to play the way they are playing and it is just about execution which they did not do well in this game and credits South Africa for the way they played. Adds that all the captains before him have also been criticized for the way the team has played and says that it is a part and parcel of the game. Says that they can’t give excuses about not having red-ball cricket before this game. He credits Ollie Pope for the way he played in testing conditions and sarcastically adds that he wants to win the toss in the next game.

Stay tuned for the presentation...

Earlier in the Test, Dean Elgar won the crucial toss and made the perfect decision to bowl first. His bowlers justified his decision to bowl first as they bundled out England for 165. Kagiso Rabada was the one who grabbed a five-wicket haul in the first innings and Ollie Pope scored 73 and was the stand-out player for England. Coming to bat, the openers of South Africa put together 85 runs and set a perfect platform and the right tone for the others. Keshav Maharaj and Marco Jansen then put on a fiery stand of 72 runs and kept South Africa in the driving seat. They eventually ended up getting a lead of 161 runs which did prove enough in the end. Ben Stokes and Stuart Broad were the picks of the bowlers for England.

A tough loss for England! This was the first time, England were batting first under their new head coach and captain, Ben Stokes, and things have certainly not worked for them. They were bundled out for 165 runs in the first innings and 149 in the second. Their bowling too was not up to the mark in this game. None of their batters got going while coming to bat for the second time. They started off well, Zak Crawley and Alex Lees put on an opening stand of 20 runs but they failed to carry on. Zak Crawley was the first one to depart and after that wickets kept falling in a heap. Ben Stokes and Stuart Broad then put on a counter-attacking stand of 55 runs and gave their side a slight glimmer of hope. But Stuart Broad perished soon and then there we no further partnerships created. England were eventually all-out for 149.

It's been a complete team performance from the visitors! They had put England under the pump after the first session and made sure to capitalize on that moment in the second session as well. They have bowled exceptionally well, and have bamboozled the English batting line-up. They grabbed 8 wickets in the second session of the game and sealed a comfortable victory.  Lungi Ngidi was the man to grab the first wicket of the second session, he got rid of Joe Root for a timid score. Anrich Nortje then followed that up with 3 quick wickets and put England under immense pressure. Ben Stokes and Stuart Broad then put on a stand of 55 runs and gave the crowd at Lord's something to cheer about. But that did not last very long as Kagiso Rabada came in and broke the stand between them. Marco Jansen then wrapped things off by grabbing the final two wickets.

South Africa have pulled off an emphatic victory at the home of cricket, Lord's! They have managed to stop the juggernaut of this strong England Test team and have continued to shine in the longest format of the game. Before the game, Dean Elgar did mention, that they are not afraid of the 'Bazball' approach by the English team and he and his side have certainly lived up to what he said. It's been a surreal performance from the visitors, and with this win, they have taken a 1-0 lead in this 3-match Test series.

OUT! BOWLED! That's it! South Africa win! What a performance this has been, a true team effort. They stayed true to their strengths playing old-fashioned cricket with great grit and determination and delivered a solid performance in the end. Coming to the ball - This is very full and swings away late from middle. James Anderson skips down the track and backs away a bit too much. He tried to dig it out but is too late as the ball goes onto shatter the stumps. Marco Jansen is elated and so are other players, they truly deserve this win. South Africa win by an innings and 12 runs!

Commentary

We are back for England's second innings. The South African players are out there in the middle. Zak Crawley and Alex Lees are the openers for England. Kagiso Rabada to start with the ball. Here we go...

… Third Innings …

It's been a disappointing performance from the English side. They troubled the batters in the beginning with their probing lines and lengths, but they were not rewarded for the same. They did manage to gain control of the game towards the final session of Day 2, but the partnership between Marco Jansen and Keshav Maharaj shifted the momentum back towards the visitors. England though will be frustrated about letting the South Africa tail wag quite a lot in the end. Ben Stokes was the leader of the pack for England, he grabbed wickets in crucial junctures and always kept England in the game. He ended with three wickets. Stuart Broad was the other bowler who took 3, while Matthew Potts grabbed two wickets. It's up to England's batters now! Can they bat long here? We will find out. Stay tuned for England's second innings!

South Africa began their batting with a solid opening stand of 85 runs. Dean Elgar was then dismissed 3 short of his half-ton, his partner, Sarel Erwee though carried on his merry way and started building a strong partnership with Keegan Petersen. Once that stand was broken, South Africa lost wickets in quick succession. Their middle order failed to convert their positive starts. But a counter-attacking partnership of 72 runs between Marco Jansen and Keshav Maharaj stole the show. They took the game away from England and helped their side take a healthy lead. Anrich Nortje and Marco Jansen played a few strokes in the end and guided South Africa to 326 with a lead of 161.

A bit of a frustrating morning for England, but they have finally managed to bundle out South Africa. They can breathe a sigh of relief for now. The visitors though will be mighty pleased with their effort with the bat. They have managed to get a handy lead of 161 and find themselves on top of proceedings.

89.1W

OUT! CAUGHT! Jonny Bairstow takes the catch at third slip, he almost made a mess of it but shows good reflexes in the end to complete the catch with his left hand. Broad bowls a fullish delivery, outside off. Lungi Ngidi tries to drive it away but gets a thick outside edge. The ball goes at a good height and straight to Jonny Bairstow at third slip. However, he fails to pouch it on one go but then takes it with his left hand bending quite low. He looks like a relieved man after taking that catch and rightly so, England are already way behind in this game and they cannot afford to miss these kind of chances. South Africa are all-out on 326!

OUT! CAUGHT! This is what happens when you pitch the ball up with the new ball. England took some time to release it but Broad finally gets his length right and takes an important wicket of Marco Jansen. A brilliant knock from the young man though and he deserved to get his fifty but that's how the game works and he walks back to a standing ovation here. This is a fullish delivery, outside off. Not that full to go for a big booming drive but Jansen does and gets an outside edge of his blade. The ball goes straight into the hands of Zak Crawley at second slip and South Africa are nine down now.

Commentary

We are back for the second innings of the Test! The players have made their way out in the middle. Dean Elgar and Sarel Erwee will open the batting for South Africa. James Anderson will begin with the ball. Four slips and a gully in place. Let's go!

... SECOND INNINGS ...

Right then! The pitch is still assisting the bowlers, and with the likes of James Anderson and Stuart Broad in England's bowling attack, batting is going to be a challenge for the Proteas. Can they put on a strong batting show here? We will find out. Stick around for the second innings of this test.

It's been disheartening for England. They had no answers to the disciplined bowling displayed by the visitors and have been dismissed for a low score. After being 6 down on Day 1, Ollie Pope and Stuart Broad resumed their batting. They did play a few strokes but they both perished soon. Jack Leach added another few runs and took England to a score of 165. Ollie Pope was the highest run-getter for them, he scored a solid 73. Had he had some support from the other end, England could have got over the 200-mark.

It's been a morning that has belonged to Kagiso Rabada! He grabs a five-wicket haul at the home of cricket and leads his team off the field. An impressive bowling performance comes to an end! Dean Elgar's decision to bowl first has paid heavy dividends here. All the bowlers have used the conditions perfectly and have bundled England out for 165. South African bowlers were brilliant on Day 1 and they did not let the advantage slip this morning. They have taken 4 wickets with just 49 added to the overnight score. Kagiso Rabada has been the pick of the bowlers, he ended up grabbing a five-fer, while Anrich Nortje took 3 wickets and Marco Jansen ended with 2.

OUT! LBW! Kagiso Rabada ends with a five-wicket haul! A much-needed reward for his hard work. He was brilliant with the ball on Day 1 and bowled his heart out on Day 2 as well and has now rightly got his name on Lord's honours board. Coming to the ball - It lands on a good length, on middle, and seams back in slightly. James Anderson looks to clip it away but misses. The ball hits his pads and there is a huge appeal. The umpire raises his finger and Rabada roars in delight! James Anderson though takes the DRS. However, there is no bat involved and the Ball Tracking also shows three reds. The original decision will stay and England are all-out for 165!

44.51

A fullish delivery, around off. Potts looks to work it towards the leg side but gets the outside edge. The ball goes in the air and towards the vacant point region. A single taken.

44.40

44.30

Serves a good length and outside off. Potts plays it inside the line of the ball.

44.20

This time an inside edge! Serves it on a good length again, around off. Potts looks to defend but gets the inside edge onto his pads.

There was a throw at the non-striker's end, but well away from the stumps. They cross and get a run as well.

Drinks break. What a passage of play this has been for South Africa! They have managed to take four wickets after the Lunch and now are in with a great chance to finish this game off on Day 3 itself. Anrich Nortje after struggling a big initially got his rhythm back and is now bowling with lot of fire and has broken the backbone of the English middle-order in the process. England still have their skipper, Ben Stokes at the crease but with just bowlers to partner him now, things look quite bleak for England.

We are back for the second session of the day! The players have made their way out in the middle. Alex Lees and Joe Root walk out to bat for England. Lungi Ngidi will begin proceedings with the ball. Let's go!

... DAY 3, SESSION 2 ...

England, on the other hand, got three wickets but once again their ploy of bowling too many short deliveries was quite surprising, especially after taking the new ball. Broad eventually decided to go back to his basics of bowling a fullish length with the new ball and got rewarded with two wickets. However, the start with the bat was crucial for England but the out-of-form Zak Crawley played another false shot to make his way back to the pavilion early and the wicket of Pope off the last ball of the session has put England in a hole again. They need something special from hereon and this is a big test now for England and their positive approach, can they put up a fight in the afternoon session? We shall find out. Do join us for the post-Lunch session at 6.10 pm IST (12.40 pm GMT).

South Africa end another session on a high! They have managed to take two wickets quickly again with the ball and this time the spinner Keshav Maharaj has joined the party. What an inspired bowling change this has been by the skipper Dean Elgar and South Africa now lead by 123 runs at Lunch with two English batters back in the hut in their second innings. Earlier in the session, the South African tail just refused to give up easily and added some crucial 37 runs to the overnight score. That took the lead over 160 runs and with the kind of bowling attack South Africa have and the clarity their skipper has shown with his decision-making, England surely have a tough task ahead of them.

OUT!

OUT! CAUGHT! Oh, what a stunning catch from Stuart Broad! A perfect start for England on Day 3! Matthew Potts strikes in his first over of the day and gets rid of Kagiso Rabada. Another short ball, around off. Kagiso Rabada stays in his crease and miscues his pull shot towards mid on. 77.10

Starts off with a back-of-a-length delivery, outside off. Rabada leaves it alone.

We are moments away from the start of Day 3! The English players are out there in the middle. Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen are the two overnight batters for South Africa. Matthew Potts to start with the ball. Here we go...

We also need to be wary about the weather here and we would like to tell you that as of now, rain is not expected to intervene for the majority of Day 3. You can never be sure of rain in England though and let's hope that it stays away as it did so generously on Day 2.

England, on the other hand, are down but are not completely out of it yet and they would have confidence in the dressing room as they have already pulled off some spectacular heists this summer in Test cricket. Can they script another fightback? A crucial first session coming up…

The term ‘bazball’ is all around English cricketing circles at the moment but South Africa have shown that the old gritty way of playing Test cricket will never go out of fashion. The South African bowling attack was always going to be handy in English conditions and they lived up to their billing with Kagiso Rabada leading the way. The batting unit then showed great determination and application on a tricky pitch to set this game up nicely for them.

Hello and a very warm welcome folks! We are now ready for Day 3 which is fondly called as the ‘moving day’ of a Test match. However, this Test has already moved at a rapid pace despite rain playing spoilsport on Day 1. South Africa have dominated the proceedings so far and now sit with a healthy lead of 124 runs with 3 wickets still in hand. We saw some fight from England in the final session of Day 2 but they need a lot of things to go their way from hereon to win or even draw this one.

… DAY 3, SESSION 1 …

Right then! That concludes our proceedings for Day 2. After a curtailed Day 1, we have witnessed quite an enticing day of cricket. The first ball of Day 3 will be bowled at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT). Our build-up though begins a lot earlier. So do join us for the same. Till then, goodbye and cheers!

South Africa, on the other hand, will be pretty happy with their performance on Day 2. The day started with Rabada taking his 12th five-wicket haul and then South African batters batted quite well to take a sizeable lead here. The openers set the tone with an 85-run stand and though Elgar departed three short of his fifty, his opening partner continued and played a fine knock of 73 runs. The middle-order batters could not build on their starts but a late seventh wicket stand between Maharaj and Jansen has taken them to a very strong position here. Jansen is still batting out there and he will be looking to bat as long as possible, farm the strike as much as he can and take the lead as close to 200 as possible. Looks improbable, but if the lower order can manage to hang around for an hour, that current lead of 124 will swell pretty quickly.

England though have done well in this final session compared to what they had done previously. They have got five wickets in the session and they should thank their skipper, Ben Stokes for that. He took three crucial wickets and kept England alive in this game. Jack Leach also bowled well but England probably missed the trick when they started bowling too many short pitch deliveries to the pair of Maharaj and Jansen when they were new at the crease. England did not add enough runs with the bat early in the day and then struggled to get wickets on the same pitch that South African bowlers got a lot of purchase from. It's been a tough day for the hosts.

Wow! This South African team surely has that fighting spirit and character that one looks for in Test cricket. Just when it seemed that England are finding their way back into this game with four wickets in a pretty quick time after Tea, the pair of Marco Jansen and Maharaj stitched together a stupendous counter-attacking partnership of 72 runs and that has taken them to a lead of 124 at the end of this riveting Day 2 of the first Test match.

OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Jack Leach strikes on his first delivery after Tea! He got some good turn and bowled quite well in those two overs he bowled before Tea and this really is a good decision by Stokes to start with the left-arm spinner along with James Anderson. This is a classic left-arm orthodox spinner's wicket. He flights this one nicely, lands it around off. It turns away a bit after pitching and takes the outside edge of Aiden Markram's blade as he looks to defend. We are back for the final session of the day! The players have made their way out to the middle. Sarel Erwee and Aiden Markram will resume their batting for South Africa. James Anderson will begin with the ball. Let's go!

... DAY 2, SESSION 3 ...

South Africa began the session by scoring runs freely. Dean Elgar and Sarel Erwee put on a wonderful partnership of 85 runs before the former was dismissed for a well-made 47. Sarel Erwee continued his merry way and put on yet another strong stand with Keegan Petersen this time. England did get rid of Petersen, but they are still struggling to get the wicket of Sarel Erwee, who is standing tall at the crease batting on 60. He along with Aiden Markram will look to put on yet another big stand. A few positives for England is that Jack Leach did get some turn in the two overs that he bowled. We saw him troubling the batters a bit, and he could be the one playing a key role for England. They will be aiming to grab quick wickets in the final session and end the day with smiles on their faces. Can they do so? We will find out. Do join us at 9.00 pm IST (3.30 pm GMT) for the third session of Day 2.

South Africa have scored 131 runs in the second session of Day 2 and just trail by 7 runs. It's safe to say that this session has also belonged to the visitors and they continue to remain on top. They have set a strong platform here and will be looking to take a big lead in the next session.

… DAY 2, SESSION 2 …

The home team, on the other hand, is right on the back foot at the moment. They were below-par with the bat and now their famed new ball pair of Anderson and Broad have failed to provide an early breakthrough. Ollie Pope was the only one who showed some application with the bat for them and once he departed this morning, wickets started falling rapidly. England have shown the ability to fight back in a Test match since Stokes has taken over the leadership role and England fans would hope that they display something similar in this Test match too. Will we see an English fightback? Or will South Africa consolidate their position? We shall find out after Lunch. Join us at 6.10 pm IST (12.40 pm GMT) for the post-Lunch session.

South Africa have bagged yet another session of this Test match! They had some work to do with the ball in the morning and they did it perfectly by grabbing four wickets quickly and folding up England to a below-par score. The openers were then left with a tricky period to survive and they have done well as England bowlers failed to get any breakthrough. All South African bowlers bowled brilliantly but Rabada was the pick as he finished with a five-wicket haul and South Africa are surely showing here why they have been so successful in Test cricket in recent times.

We are moments away from the start of Day 2! The South African players have made their way out to the middle. Ollie Pope and Stuart Broad the two overnight batters for England also walk out to the middle now. The sun is shining bright and conditions are perfect for some quality Test cricket today. Kagiso Rabada to start the proceedings with the ball. Here we go...

To give you a bit of a weather update, it's not raining in London for now, the conditions are cloudy though. But let's be optimistic here and hope for no rain and only cricket on Day 2.

England were absolutely bamboozled by the South African bowlers. Ollie Pope was the only batter who found some sort of rhythm. He along with Ben Stokes put on a 45-run stand which was the only promising partnership for England. Stokes did perish after playing a few fine strokes but Pope is still standing tall at the crease. He is unbeaten on 61 and will try to build a partnership along with Stuart Broad at the other end and regain some sort of control.

South Africa put on a clinical performance with the ball. All the bowlers justified the skipper's decision to bowl first. They grabbed 6 wickets in the 32 overs they bowled. Anrich Nortje took 3 wickets, while Kagiso Rabada took 2. They will be aiming to continue their good show with the ball and bundle out England as soon as possible.

Hello and welcome back folks! It’s time for Day 2 of this first Test between South Africa and England to get underway. We witnessed a curtailed Day 1 in which only 32 overs were bowed and it’s South Africa that are certainly on top of proceedings. They took 6 wickets on Day 1 and put England under the pump early. With the conditions being overcast and the pitch assisting the bowler's things are only going to be tough for England.

... DAY 2 ...

Right then, that concludes our proceedings for Day 1. The action was quite engrossing till it lasted and let’s hope that rain stays away on Day 2. The first ball of Day 2 will be bowled at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT). Our build-up though begins a lot earlier. So do join us for the same. Till then, goodbye and cheers!

UPDATE - 9.07 pm IST (3.37 pm GMT) - DAY 1 HAS BEEN CALLED OFF! It's been raining continuously for over two hours now and the officials have decided no play will be possible. We witnessed only 32 overs on Day 1 and it's South Africa that have dominated proceedings. The visitors have demolished the English batting line-up and find themselves sitting in the driving seat. Dean Elgar's decision to bowl first has certainly paid heavy dividends as they have taken 6 wickets in the span of 32 overs. Anrich Nortje has grabbed three wickets for them, while Kagiso Rabada has taken two. For England, it's been disappointing. Ollie Pope was the only bright star in an otherwise dark day for England. Ben Stokes did play some fine strokes but he could not carry on and was sent back to the hut at the stroke of Lunch. Ollie Pope notched up his half-ton and will be hoping to continue the same way with little support from the other end.

UPDATE - 8.51 pm IST (3.21 pm GMT) - Unfortunately, it is still raining at Lord's! Looks like our not-so-beloved friend, RAIN has decided to have a long stay in the home of cricket. You can't blame rain though, the ground has a rich history, and everyone is bound to get attracted to it.

While we continue to wait here for the game to resume, there is plenty of cricket action going around. Afghanistan and Ireland are battling it out in the fifth and final T20I of the series. The series is firmly poised at 2-2 and the winner of the final game will secure the series. Afghanistan are currently reeling at 33 for 3 at the end of 6 overs. In the Women's Hundred Competition, Oval Invincibles Women and Trent Rockets Women are up against each other at Trent Bridge. So, switch tabs and enjoy the action from these games, but do not go too far away as we will have an update about this game very soon.

As rain continues to pour here at the home of cricket, let’s just take some time to give our regards to Kevin O’Brien who retired from International cricket on the 16th of August, 2022. His biggest moment in the sun came when he became an overnight sensation after smashing a fantastic century against England in the 2011 World Cup. Also, the man is a legend of Irish cricket! He would be forever remembered as one of the players who played a key role in bringing Ireland cricket on a cricketing map. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.

UPDATE - 7.44 pm IST (2.14 pm GMT) - As expected! Our waiting game continues folks. The rain continues to pour down and with that early Tea has been taken.

UPDATE - 7.25 pm IST (1.55 pm GMT) - Here is one life lesson for all of us. NEVER DOUBT THE KNOWLEDGE AND WISDOM OF A LOCAL EXPERIENCED PERSON! It has started to rain again and quite heavily too. Things are looking quite bleak at the moment and looks like we are in for a long delay.

UPDATE - 7.10 pm IST (1.40 pm GMT) - We have some bitter-sweet news folks! The news coming out from the middle is that the rain has eased out but the covers are still on. It is probably because the groundstaff with their local knowledge are expecting more rain to arrive soon. Let's hope they are proved wrong this time!

While we continue waiting for the game to resume, let's talk about the small passage of play we witnessed in the second session. South Africa came in and continued to trouble the batters with their disciplined bowling and they were rewarded with the wicket of Ben Foakes. Anrich Nortje was the bowler who got rid of him. He grabbed his third wicket and helped South Africa get their sixth. Ben Foakes was the last recognized batter for England, they are into the bowlers now, with Ollie Pope still at the crease. It's only going to get tougher for the home side.

UPDATE - 6.39 pm IST (1.09 pm GMT) - Rain stops play! Uh-oh! It has started to drizzle and the players are walking off the field and the covers have been brought on. It's not heavy for now, but the forecast for rest of the day is not quite promising. But let's hope for the best.

We are back for the afternoon session! The South African players are out there in the middle. Ollie Pope and Ben Foakes also walk out to the middle now. Kagiso Rabada to start after Lunch. Here we go...

… DAY 1, SESSION 2 …

England though will be disappointed with this batting effort. We all know conditions are tough for the batters in Lord’s, especially in the first two or three days but it is all about applying yourself in the middle. However, except Pope, all other batters struggled to show that application and ended up losing their wickets quickly. The 45-run stand between Stokes and Pope did bring some respite for the English fans for some time but with Stokes departing on the last ball, England now need a special effort from the lower order to put a decent total on the board. Ollie Pope is unbeaten on 51 and can he along with the lower order stage a fightback here? We shall find out in the post-Lunch session. We shall be back at 6.10 pm IST (12.40 pm GMT). Stay tuned...

A fantastic first session for South Africa! They have got five wickets and the wicket of Stokes off the last delivery of this session has put them in a very strong position now. All South African bowlers made full use of friendly bowling conditions and dominated the proceedings as they got good swing and seam throughout the session. Rabada was the man who set the tone and got rid of both the openers in his opening spell. Marco Jansen then bowled brilliantly and showed yet again why he is rated so highly as he outfoxed Joe Root. That crucial breakthrough was followed by the wicket of Jonny Bairstow with Nortje beating him with his rapid bullet and the speedster then ended the session with a big wicket of Ben Stokes.

Right then, we are all set to begin! South African players are out there in the middle. Alex Lees and Zak Crawley are the openers for England. Alex Lees will take the strike as Kagiso Rabada is ready to start with the ball for South Africa. Here we go...

We are moments away from the start of the game! We are at the home of cricket and conditions are perfect for some quality Test cricket. It is time for the national anthems! We will have South Africa's national anthem first up and it will be followed by the England national anthem.

South Africa (Playing XI) - Dean Elgar (C), Sarel Erwee, Keegan Petersen, Aiden Markram, Rassie van der Dussen, Kyle Verreynne (WK), Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi.

England (Playing XI) - Alex Lees, Zak Crawley, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes (C), Ben Foakes (WK), Stuart Broad, Jack Leach, Matthew Potts, James Anderson.

TOSS - The coin goes up and lands in favour of Dean Elgar. South Africa have elected to BOWL first.

South Africa on the other hand might have a little inexperienced side. Dean Elgar, Keshav Maharaj, and Kagiso Rabada are the only experienced players in their side, the rest are relatively new to playing in English conditions. A significant concern for the Proteas will be the selection of Rabada. He remains doubtful for the first Test after sustaining an injury in the T20I series. However, South Africa will be hoping he is fit and ready for the first game. It will be a massive blow for the visitors if he is not part of the squad. Like their opposition, even South Africa have been exceptional in the longest format. They are yet to lose a Test series in the ongoing WTC cycle. Can they continue their good form? Well, we will know soon. Stay tuned for the toss and other updates.
