That is it then from this game and the series is nicely poised at 1-1 with just a game remaining. The final game of the series will be played on Tuesday, the 11th of October in Delhi. That game will begin at 1.30 pm IST (8 am GMT) but our build-up as usual will begin much earlier. Do join us then. Cheers!

Shreyas Iyer (113* off 111 balls) is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his match-winning ton. Iyer says that he is ecstatic and mentions that he went into bat at a tough time but he had a good chat with Ishan Kishan and tried to play every ball on its merit. Says that it's gonna take a toll on his body as they have to travel the next day and he will have to see what the physio says. Adds that he isn't someone who changes according to the bowler but relies on instinct and backs himself to perform.

Indian skipper, Shikhar Dhawan starts by joking about the toss and thanks Keshav Maharaj as he chose to bat which worked perfectly for them. He praises Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer for their batting performances. Adds that the pitch was slightly keeping low and it was difficult to play shots on the back foot but after the dew settled in, the ball was coming nicely onto the bat. Mentions that he is proud of the boys and credits the bowlers and further says that Shahbaz Ahmed did very well considering it was his debut.

Keshav Maharaj, the captain of South Africa says that they didn't expect the dew to play such a big role and hence opted to bat. Adds that he is proud of the bowlers and they did a fine job but the Indian batters were brilliant as well. Says that they thought the pitch will slow down after the first 20 overs but it stayed good for batting. Mentions that they tried to throw everything at the opposition batters but it did not work.

The presentation ceremony...

Ishan Kishan says that he is really happy with the win and is looking forward to playing in the decider. Adds that he is disappointed that he missed out on the hundred but he will look to contribute in the next game again. Mentions that the talk between him and Shreyas Iyer was to put pressure on the bowlers and put away the poor deliveries. Tells that he was looking to pull whenever the ball was near his chest and says that Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje are quick but the ball was sometimes sticking to the surface and they had to be a bit watchful.

Earlier in the game, Keshav Maharaj won the toss and opted to make full use of the good batting conditions early on. This did not work well in the start as they lost a couple of early wickets. Reeza Hendricks and Aiden Markram did well to put on a century stand for the 3rd wicket to put them in the driving seat. The Indian spinners though got rid of both set batters in quick succession to turn the tide and towards the end, it was a scintillating display by Mohammed Siraj that kept the Proteas to under a score of 300. In reply, India's innings was very similar to that of South Africa at the start and then another century stand was added by Iyer and Kishan for the third wicket but the major difference was that one of them stayed on till the end which made sure that there were no hiccups. Let's now hear from one of the protagonists of the run-chase, Ishan Kishan...

South Africa knew that they were a few runs short and with the dew also playing a part it was going to be tough. Wayne Parnell and Kagiso Rabada did get early breakthroughs but that was it. Both spinners failed to control the game in the middle overs and the pacers too were a bit all over the place. Keshav Maharaj who generally does a brilliant job in the middle phase wasn't allowed to settle one bit. In the end, the stand between Kishan and Iyer broke the back of the run chase, and the Proteas were defeated with ease. They will now look to bounce back in the final game.

India had the momentum coming into the chase but that was thrown away as both openers fell inside the first Powerplay. Shikhar Dhawan looked vulnerable and Shubman Gill too got out after a solid start. Then came the match-winning partnership between Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer. The latter was aggressive from the start and Kishan too surely kept on getting better. Once the southpaw reached his half-century, he treated his home crowd to a fine show as he took Anrich Nortje apart. Kishan fell in the 90s but Iyer battled through cramps and brought up a sensational ton to guide his team to victory. He was well-supported by Sanju Samson towards the end.

An absolutely perfectly paced chase by India and they have managed to level the ODI series at 1-1 in some style as well. As for South Africa, they fail to pick up crucial points in the World Cup Super League and will now find direct qualification for the 2023 Cricket World Cup really difficult.

Commentary

We are back for the chase! We can see the South Africa players in a huddle, and now they are taking their respective field positions. The two openers for India are their skipper, Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill. South Africa going with spin straightaway as Bjorn Fortuin is ready to start proceedings with the ball. Here we go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Right then, South Africa have put on 278 runs on the board and with their bowling attack it will not be an easy chase for India. The top order of the hosts will need to put on a better performance and Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill will be key for them. This is a must-win game for them and they will be confident enough to level the series. Will the Men in Blue gun this total down? Or will the Proteas defend it successfully to seal the series? We will find out soon. Stay tuned for the second essay.

Reeza Hendricks is up for a chat. He says that it was nice to be out there and contribute but would have liked to get that ton. Adds that it was nice batting with Aiden Markram and they needed that partneship but unfortunately, both of them got out at the wrong time and they couldn't quite get the big finish either. Says that if one of them had stayed on, they would have got to 300. Mentions that the Indian bowlers bowled well and it was a tricky wicket as the ball wasn't quite coming onto the bat.

The India bowling effort was hot and cold throughout the innings. Mohammed Siraj gave them the perfect start when he got rid of Quinton de Kock in the third over and then the others put the brakes on the runs before Shahbaz Ahmed got the wicket of Janneman Malan which was his maiden ODI wicket. They could not continue the momentum and let South Africa a build a huge partnership. However, they got back in the game with the help of Siraj once again who broke the partnership and got the wicket of Hendricks. India then further got control over the game when Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Klassen and Washington Sundar got the big wicket of Markram in consecutive overs. Mohammed Siraj was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets for just 38 runs in his 10 overs. They bowled well in the death overs for a change and did not let the South African finishers to score big. India will be happy to restrict South Africa under the 300-run mark.

South Africa will be satisfied with their performance with the blade but they know they could have got more. They did not get the best of starts and lost Quinton de Kock and Janneman Malan inside the first Powerplay for cheap scores. After that Aiden Markram and Reeza Hendricks started steadying the ship, they both started off slow and took time to settle in but once they did they scored runs freely. Both of them added a 129 runs before Hendricks got dismissed for a well played 74. However, Markram continued the momentum with Heinrich Klaasen and both played some lusty blows but both of them perished in the space of two overs and gave the momentum back to India. David Miller stayed till the end but struggled to score big runs. They will feel that they are 20-25 runs short as there will be dew when India will come out to chase.

A really good bowling performance from India at the back end of the innings and they have restricted South Africa to 278. They will be the slightly happier side going into the break and the momentum will also be with them after the incredible final over from Mohammed Siraj, but they will also be wary of the fiery African bowling attack.

Leg bye! Just 3 runs off the final over, a brilliant finish from Mohammed Siraj. He bowls this on a hard length and angles it into the body. Bjorn Fortuin gets cramped for room as he looks for the pull. The ball hits the thigh pads and rolls away towards cover. They get a leg bye and South Africa finish with 278/7 on the board.

Bjorn Fortuin is the new man in.

49.5W

OUT! TIMBER! What a final over this is turning out to be by Mohammed Siraj! Siraj bowls this quicker and fuller. The ball just tails in a bit from around the off pole. Keshav Maharaj backs away and looks to swing it hard across the line. The pace is just too much to handle for Maharaj and the ball goes on to knock the off stump out of the ground. Siraj picks up his third and this has been a brilliant fightback by India in the final few overs.

49.40

This is poor cricket from Keshav Maharaj. Slower and fuller, outside off, Maharaj tries to attempt the reverse-scoop over short third man but can't get bat on ball.

49.31

Excellent bowling! Mohammed Siraj sees David Miller advancing and bowls a short ball, pushing it outside off as well. Miller has to drag the pull and only manages to hit it towards deep mid-wicket for a single.

49.21

Back of a length and outside off, Keshav Maharaj looks to pull but gets it off the toe end of the bat towards backward point for a single. This gets David Miller back on strike.

49.10

Swing and a miss! Fullish length, around off and tailing back in a bit. Keshav Maharaj hangs back and has a swing across the line but misses the ball.

Mohammed Siraj (9-0-36-2) to bowl the last over.

FOUR! Back-to-back boundaries now! Pitched up, in the slot and David Miller is able to swing across the line and gets it well in front of mid-wicket to pick up a boundary.

48.54

FOUR! Finally, David Miller is able to get one away. Full and straight, Miller steps out and thumps is right back over the bowler's head. The ball goes hard and flat and into the fence.

48.41

Thakur gets it in the blockhole, on middle and leg but Maharaj manages to flick it away past square leg for a run.

48.31

Slower one, bowled on a length and pushed well outside off. Miller taps it towards sweeper cover for yet another single.

48.21

On a hard length, around off, Maharaj hits it down to long off and rotates the strike.

48.11

Full and on leg stump, David Miller advances and whips it away to deep square leg for just a single. Miller feels he should have done with that one and rightly so.

Good length, around the hips and this is tucked away to deep mid-wicket for a single.

47.51

A low full toss and on off, Keshav Maharaj slices it towards extra cover for a single.

47.40

A slower one, full and on middle, Keshav Maharaj works it with the inner half towards mid-wicket.

47.30

BEATEN! Mohammed Siraj bowls this on a good length and on off, shaping in a bit, Keshav Maharaj looks to play at it but misses.

47.24b

FOUR BYES! Now, what happened here? Mohammed Siraj has a shy at the stumps which costs four overthrows and the umpire signals a boundary. Siraj and the Indian players don't seem pleased but there was an attempt from Siraj to run-out Miller at the non-striker's end. The issue raised here by the Indians is that the ball was thrown back by the keeper and should be dead but the attempt of a run-out makes the ball live and hence, it will be a boundary. Poor cricket this from Siraj.

47.10

Misses the leg stump by a whisker! Pace on from Siraj, angling it in from around middle and there's just a hint of reverse on this occasion. Maharaj backs away looking to drive but is well beaten.

Ouch, that must have hurt! Hard length, on middle and leg and just jagging back in. Miller looks for the slog but misses and gets a blow around the rib cage. Terrific over by Thakur, just a single and a wicket off it.

46.50

Is there a bat on it? No, there isn't! This is a lovely delivery by Shardul Thakur, fuller and in that channel around off. David Miller looks to drive but the ball holds its line and beats the inside edge. The keeper, Sanju Samson seems excited and appeals for a caught behind but the umpire turns it down. Shikhar Dhawan does take the review. The third umpire checks UltraEdge and finds a flatline as the ball passes the bat and the review is wasted by India.

46.41

Good length, around off, pushed out onto the off side for a single.
