India beat West Indies by 96 runs

Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad

Right then! That is all we have from this game and also from the ODI series. India have sealed a 3-0 win over the Windies. The focus now shifts to Kolkata for the T20I series. The first match of the three-match series between these two sides begins on Wednesday, the 16th of February at the Eden Gardens. The match begins at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT) but our coverage as always will begin a lot sooner. Do join us then. Goodbye and take care!

Rohit Sharma goes ahead and lifts the trophy for winning the series and the Indian side is then seen posing with the trophy for the winning moment photograph.

Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma says that it is important to get the job done and they have ticked a lot of boxes in this series. He adds that the noise will be around as long as they are playing and they are playing a high-profile game in India. He mentions that outside noise does not matter much and it is about executing skills in the middle. He applauds Krishna for his potential of hitting the deck and says he is a good prospect for India. He adds on and says that all the bowlers bowled well. He says that Kuldeep and Chahal are both important players for India and especially Kuldeep went off the radar a little and it is good to get him back. He states that it will take time and it is important to give them game-time. He says that the biggest takeaway for them was the middle-order batting and the top order did not do much but it is good to see middle-order doing well and bailing the team out of the trouble and again mentions it as the biggest takeaway from the series according to him.

Prasidh Krishna is named as the PLAYER OF THE SERIES for picking up 9 wickets over the course of 3 matches. He says that now that he has played a lot more domestic games, his bowling has a good rhythm about it. He says that anything getting a good carry through to the keeper regularly is a good sign for him and every fast bowler wants to pick up wickets regularly and is happy he could do that tonight as well. He mentions that they have top bowling talents in their squad and it takes a team effort to win matches. He also mentions that he tries to stay grounded and just keep on putting in the hard work.

Shreyas Iyer is adjudged the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his knock of 80 runs! He says that life was tough for him in the last couple of months with food poisoning, injuries and Covid as well. He says that he is flexible to bat at any position but he likes batting at number 4. He says that it is about building the innings first up and then carrying on from there. He mentions that he thrives on pressure situations like today.

West Indies skipper, Nicholas Pooran says that it was a wonderful opportunity today and wants to congratulate India on the win and also Rohit Sharma on winning his first white-ball series as full-time captain. He adds that India were brilliant with the ball tonight as well as throughout the series and hopes that the batters can make amends. He adds that they are now looking forward to the T20I series and hopes that they can perform better.

Time for the Presentation ceremony...

Deepak Chahar is up for a chat. Deepak says that he thinks about bowling to his plans and tries to do well every time he plays. He says that he wanted to target the spinners when he was batting but would have loved to carry on. He mentions that his plan B is to change the pace of the ball when it is not swinging and variations are key. He adds that his plan B depends on the conditions and situation in the middle.

Mohammed Siraj is down for a quick chat. He says that there was a little bit of swing and that was the plan to swing the ball bowling on a length. Siraj says that dropping a catch or taking a good catch is part and parcel of the game and he tried to focus on his own bowling and bowl back of a length to Smith. He adds that scrambled seam is his wicket-taking ball and that's why he looks to make the most of that delivery.

The top-order problems for West Indies continue to cost them matches they could have won. This has now become a regular feature of their ODI set up and in the longer form of white-ball cricket, the openers play the most vital role. Hope and King fell cheaply and Brooks soon followed. Darren Bravo looked edgy but managed to hold the fort for a bit. Nicholas Pooran, the skipper looked positive but once Bravo got out, Holder and Pooran too followed. With over 150 runs required, Odean Smith played freely and hit 36 runs off just 18 balls before being dismissed. Alzarri Joseph along with Hayden Walsh put on a 47-run partnership for the ninth wicket. This only proves that the Windies do have enough batting depth to get them over the line in close matches but when the top-order fails as miserably as it has done in the series, the tail-enders need to be applauded for their effort. West Indies will now look to turn their focus onto the T20I series and hope to get a win on this tour.

Deepak Chahar is a highly-rated new ball bowler and he showed today exactly why. He picked up two wickets early on and his new-ball partner, Mohammed Siraj too got a wicket. This pinged the opposition firmly on the back foot and after that, the wickets just kept on coming. Krishna and Kuldeep bowled well after the Powerplay and picked up wickets at regular intervals. Kuldeep was hammered a bit by Odean Smith but he will be happy with his comeback overall. The ninth wicket partnership troubled India for a while and the fielding got a bit sloppy as well with a few misfields and a couple of easy dropped catches. But Siraj broke the partnership and Krishna finished things off as both of them ended with 3 wickets each. Overall, a really strong showing with the ball yet again from India.

India have completed the whitewash and they hardly broke a sweat strolling through this match. The batters put on a decent total but the bowlers broke the back of the Windies chase pretty early on to hand them a thumping defeat. The visitors will be thoroughly disappointed with their batting effort, not just tonight but on the whole as well. It's also the first time ever India have beaten West Indies 3-0 in a three-match series.

Kemar Roach is the last man in.

Mohammed Siraj to continue. He is into his 9th over now.

Mohammed Siraj (6-0-27-2) is back on.

Deepak Chahar (6-1-32-2) is back into the attack.

Washington Sundar is brought into the attack for the first time tonight.

Hayden Walsh is the next man in.

Odean Smith is in at number 9.

Alzarri Joseph comes in with West Indies in serious trouble.

Huge appeal from Rishabh Pant which almost looked like a stumping appeal but the umpire has given Fabian Allen caught behind. Allen has reviewed it and now the catch and stumping both will be checked. UltraEdge shows that there is a huge spike, so no need to check the stumping and maybe it was just a hopeful review. The on-field decision of OUT stays and Allen has to walk back.

Fabian Allen walks out to bat at number 7.

DRINKS! It has been a brilliant start for India as Mohammed Siraj and especially Deepak Chahar have done a spectacular job in the first Powerplay by picking up 3 wickets. Top-order woes for the Windies continue as no one really looks to be wanting to spend time at the crease. Bravo and Pooran did put on a nice little partnership but now that Bravo has departed, the skipper Nicholas Pooran has too much to do on his own. He needs someone to stay with him as he looks to give his side a chance in this match. India seem to be cruising and are set up nicely for a whitewash. Jason Holder walks in to bat now.

Kuldeep Yadav is now brought into the attack.

Big news from the upcoming T20I series between India and West Indies - KL Rahul and Axar Patel have both been ruled out of the upcoming series. Rahul is ruled out due to an active left hamstring issue and Axar Patel is still in the recovery process after testing positive for Covid-19. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Deepak Hooda have been added to the side in place of Rahul and Axar Patel.

End of Powerplay 1. Now, 4 fielders can stay outside the ring till the 40th over in Powerplay 2.

Prasidh Krishna is into the attack now. He replaces Mohammed Siraj.

The skipper, Nicholas Pooran walks out to the middle.

Shamarh Brooks is the next man in.

Darren Bravo walks in at number 3.

Review! India have taken a review for a CAUGHT BEHIND against Brandon King! The replays roll in and the UltraEdge shows no bat involved. So the original decision stays and India lose a review. Everyone heard some noise there but nothing on the UltraEdge.

Mohammed Siraj will share the new ball with Deepak Chahar.

Brandon King seems to have broken his bat! He has a change of bat now and is ready to resume.

37.1 W 0

OUT! CAUGHT! It's all over! India clinch the series 3-0! Another dominating bowling performance by India. Prasidh Krishna stays with the ploy of bowling it short. He bangs it short on middle with good pace. Alzarri Joseph looks to pull but gets a huge top edge. The ball goes in the air towards deep square leg and Virat Kohli settles under it to take a comfortable catch. Good fight shown by Alzarri Joseph but the defeat was inevitable after the top-order failed miserably yet again. Prasidh Krishna gets his third wicket and India win by 96 runs!

A bit of shape to start with from Deepak Chahar. Pitched up, on off and shaping away. Shai Hope pushes it with the shape towards covers for a quick single. Hope and West Indies are underway.

We are back for the chase! Indian players are seen in the huddle and they disperse now to take their respective positions. Shai Hope and Brandon King are the openers for West Indies. Windies need a solid start from them. Deepak Chahar to start with the ball for India with two slips in place. Here we go...

...THE RUN CHASE…

Right then, India have posted a good score here and a Windies batters need to step up their game to chase this total down. They have failed to cross 200 in this series so far and it would not be an easy task even today. Can they grab 10 important World Cup Super League points? An interesting second-half of this game coming up.

Shreyas Iyer is down for the chat. He says that it wasn't easy to bat early on as the ball was seaming and swinging and him and Shikhar decided just to take it slow. He adds that the bowlers were also not sticking to one line or length and it was a test of patience as batting did get easy later on. He mentions that the wicket was a bit two-paced and the opposition came out with a good bowling plan. He mentions that the score they have is a really good one on this surface but it might get easier for batting later on and they will have to bowl well to get the win. Also says that he is ready to bowl if the captain needs him and is disappointed at himself for getting out the way he did especially with 15 odd overs still left.

West Indies with their fragile batting lineup needed to take early wickets to restrict India to a chaseable score and they did just that, Alzarri Joseph getting rid of Sharma and Kohli in the same over yet again. Odean Smith with all his x-factor managed to get the wicket of struggling Dhawan in his first over. West Indies were denied wickets in the middle overs after that as the partnership build but Walsh provided the important breakthrough just when the game seems to be drifting away and then came back to take the wicket of another set batter Iyer in the 38th over. They would have been hoping to restrict India to a lesser total after that but now have a decent score to chase on this pitch and need to bat better than what they have done so far.

When you talk about India playing an ODI game more often than not you will see top 3 or one of the top 3 playing a major role with the bat. However, it was not the case today as all three of them departed early. It was down to the rising stars of Indian cricket, Iyer and Pant to rebuild the innings. They did their job to perfection and stitched together a partnership of 110 runs. Both of them went on to get to their respective fifties on the way but Pant could not carry on and fell in the 30th over. SKY could not hold on for long and Iyer also departed while trying to up the ante against the spinners. It was Deepak Chahar who seems to be on a mission to prove himself as an all-rounder, provided the impetus at the end of the innings and Sundar also played a handy knock in the end. Overall India will be pleased with their effort with the bat.

India have gone past 260 here and they will be happy with this total after losing three early wickets. West Indies bowled well in the patches but with little more discipline they might have restricted India under 250 here. There is help for the bowlers in this pitch and India will fancy their chances of defending this total.

Prasidh Krishna is the last man in.

Jason Holder to bowl the last over.

Mohammed Siraj is the next man in.

Kuldeep Yadav is the next man in.

Jason Holder (5-1-17-0) comes on to replace Hayden Walsh.

Alzarri Joseph (7-1-33-2) is back into the attack.

The umpire signals for Powerplay 3! The fielding side can now have up to 5 fielders outside the 30-yard circle until the end of the innings.

Deepak Chahar walks out at number 8.

Hayden Walsh (5-0-31-1) is back into the attack.

Shreyas Iyer seems to be suffering from cramps. The heat of Ahmedabad can do that to you. He is having some energy drinks and is ready to resume now.

Washington Sundar is the next man in.

DRINKS! Hayden Walsh has just broken a 110-run stand between Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant who were taking the game away from the Windies. After a strong start with the ball from the visitors, India have managed to claw their way back into the match with half-centuries from Iyer and Pant. With still 20 overs to go, the first innings is set up nicely. A couple of wickets in the next 5 or so overs and the Windies will be able to regain the lost advantage. India need another decent stand here. Suryakumar Yadav comes in at number 6.

Hayden Walsh (4-0-25-0) comes from the opposite end now.

Hayden Walsh to continue.

Kemar Roach (5-0-24-0) is back into the attack.

The ball seems to be lost in the stands! This is another difficulty when you don't have spectators there. However, they have found it now and we are ready to resume.

Change of ends for Jason Holder. He replaces Odean Smith.

Spin for the first time today. Fabian Allen is brought into the attack now.

Odean Smith to continue. Nicholas Pooran would hope that the big man produces another wicket.

Drinks! India in a spot of bother here! They have lost their top 3 batters and it is upto the young middle-order now to bail them out of the trouble. West Indies bowlers came out with a plan and got some good help from the pitch and would be looking to get some more wickets in these middle-overs. Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant are out there in the middle and a lot will depend on how long these two can stay together.

The umpire signals the start of Powerplay 2! The fielding side can now have as many as 4 fielders outside the 30-yard circle till the 40th over. Also, Jason Holder is now brought into the attack.

Rishabh Pant walks in at number 5.

Here comes the first change in bowling. Odean Smith comes on to replace Alzarri Joseph.

Shreyas Iyer is in early with India in a spot of bother.

Virat Kohli is in at number 3.

Alzarri Joseph to start with the other new ball.

Nicholas Pooran has taken the DRS for an LBW decision. On the first replay, we can see that there is no bat involved and Ball Tracker then confirms that the ball was sliding well down leg. West Indies have wasted an early review here.

We are ready for play! West Indies are seen in a huddle as the Indian openers, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan stride out to the middle. Kemar Roach to start proceedings with the ball here. West Indies take the knee as the Indian players are seen having a hand on the heart to show their support for the BLM movement. Let's play...

Nicholas Pooran says that they wanted to bowl first again and in the last match, they couldn't chase it down but will look to make amends today. Adds that the batters need to give themselves a chance by getting in and staying on the crease a bit longer. Informs that they have a forced change with Akeal Hosein missing out and Hayden Walsh coming in place of him.

Rohit Sharma says that they will bat first. He says that they always wanted to post some runs on the board and give the bowlers some chance to do what they did the other night. He adds that there was no dew in the last game and they want to post runs on the board and they want to give their bowlers another chance. He says that they have made three changes. KL has niggle and misses out. He adds that Hooda and Chahal also miss out today.

West Indies (Playing XI) - Shai Hope (WK), Brandon King, Darren Bravo, Shamarh Brooks, Nicholas Pooran (C), Jason Holder, Fabian Allen, Odean Smith, Hayden Walsh (In for Akeal Hosein), Alzarri Joseph and Kemar Roach.

India (Playing XI) - Rohit Sharma (C), Shikhar Dhawan (In for KL Rahul), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (In for Deepak Hooda), Rishabh Pant (WK), Suryakumar Yadav, Washington Sundar, Deepak Chahar (In for Shardul Thakur), Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav (In for Yuzvendra Chahal) and Prasidh Krishna.

TOSS - Up goes the flip of the coin and Nicholas Pooran calls it. It lands in favor of India and Rohit Sharma has elected to BAT first.

PITCH REPORT - Deep Dasgupta is pitchside and he is joined by Ajit Agarkar. DDG says that there is a bit of breeze and it's exactly the same pitch as the last match. Ajit says that it is a lovely pitch and there was good bounce on offer for the faster bowlers but the same bounce might not be there as it looks more whitish. If the dew does come on, the sides might look to chase and DDG concludes by saying that it is a good ODI pitch with something in it for everyone.

The news going around is that we might see a couple of changes in the Indian side today. Kuldeep Yadav may get a look in. Meanwhile, Shikhar Dhawan is all set to be back at the top of the order. West Indies, on the other hand, might see their skipper, Kieron Pollard coming back.

West Indies, on the other hand, are facing similar problems they have faced in the past. Their batting group has failed to play out the allotted 50 overs and that hurt them in both the games so far. Shai Hope is the man they have been relying on in this format in recent times and it is high time that he delivers. The bowling has been pretty decent from the Windies and if their top-order can lay the foundation, they have the firepower to explode in the end. Can they lift their game and win this final ODI? Or will India continue to dominate? We shall find out. Toss and team sheets in a while.

India were expected to win this series despite a poor performance in South Africa and they have lived up to the expectations. However, the bigger goal for India is to try out some players in specific positions in specific conditions and with Deepak Hooda and Suryakumar Yadav putting up good performances in the middle order, India will be quite happy with how things have panned out. Another concern was that India was not taking wickets in the middle overs and India have rectified that aspect of their game quite well in this series. The only concern will be the form of Virat Kohli but given the class of the former captain, a big score might just be around the corner.

Hello and a warm welcome to the third and final ODI of this three-match ODI series between India and West Indies. India have already sealed the series with dominating performances in the first two ODIs and will be eyeing a whitewash here. West Indies, on the other hand, have a lot to ponder about and they will be desperate for a victory here with 10 World Cup Super League points up for grabs.
