Mentions that he is proud of the effort of the boys and says that they want to play these big teams regularly. The presentation ceremony...

Earlier in the game, Tom Latham won the toss and on a flat pitch decided to bat first. This decision proved to be positive as the Kiwi openers were off to an absolutely lightning-fast start. New Zealand, riding on a superb ton by Martin Guptill and a cracking knock by Henry Nicholls went on to post a mammoth total of 360 runs. The Irish bowlers were all taken to the cleaners and without the services of strike bowler Mark Adair it was always going to be difficult for them. The wicket was great for batting and the hosts came out all guns blazing and reached a point where they were ahead of the chase but the Kiwi bowlers got the wickets towards the end which broke the Irish momentum and New Zealand went on to win the ODI series 3-0. Stay tuned for the presentation.

Ireland will be thinking that cricket is a cruel game as within a span of a week, they have had two heartbreaking losses which not only cost them the series but crucial World Cup Super League points as well. The skipper faltered once again but his opening partner Paul Stirling was at his devastating best. Stirling along with upcoming Irish superstar Harry Tector added on 179 runs for the 3rd wicket and put the hosts in a position of promise. However, once Stirling got out for 120, Tector took a bit of time getting to his ton and then gave away his wicket. The tailenders provided a few lusty blows but none of them just hung on till the end which proved to be the difference between the two sides. Ireland have played some brilliant cricket but unfortunately, have nothing to show for it.

With 360 runs on the board, all New Zealand needed were a couple of early wickets and Matt Henry provided them an early wicket just as he has done throughout the series. Lockie Ferguson wasn't quite on song and after picking up a couple of wickets inside the first 10 overs, the Kiwi bowlers were largely ineffective for the next 20 or so overs. The spinners couldn't control the pace of the game and were easily dealt with. But just as the game went on, the bowlers started to pick up wickets and Henry and Santner ended up with 4 wickets and 3 wickets respectively. In the end, Blair Tickner who hasn't had the best of series stood up to bowl the final over and saw his side to victory.

So close yet so far and the Irish hearts are broken once again! What an absolute thriller of a match and Ireland were just moments away from accomplishing the fifth highest run chase in ODI history but Blair Tickner and New Zealand had other plans. In the end, the Kiwis held their nerves and have swept the series 3-0!

The replays show that Young was short depsite the dive and New Zealand are one wicket away from victory.

Commentary

We are back for the Irish reply! The New Zealand players are out there in the middle. Paul Stirling and Andy Balbirnie are the openers for Ireland. Lockie Ferguson to start with the ball for New Zealand. Here we go...

...THE RUN CHASE…

Right then, the target is quite a daunting one for the Irish and New Zealand will fancy defending this total down. However, as we know this is cricket and anything can happen here. Ireland do have some quality batters and a lot will depend on how Paul Stirling goes about his business today. He needs to fire, if Ireland want to chase this total down. We shall be back for the second essay in a while. Stay tuned.

Martin Guptill is down for a quick chat. He says that they wanted to get off to a strong start and him and Finn Allen were able to do just that. Adds that the picth was flatter than the last two games and looks good for batting. Reckons that the total they have on board should be enough but anything can happen in cricket.

Irish bowlers had a tough time in the middle. They gave away way too many loose deliveries with the new ball and they just couldn’t stop the run flow after the Kiwis got off to a good start. Graham Hume on debut could not impress and other bowlers too leaked quite a few runs. Josh Little was the one bowler who bowled some good overs along the way and got two wickets but overall it has been a disappointing performance by the Irish bowlers.

New Zealand were not at their best with the bat in the first two games and it was a perfect setting today with the strip being the best we have seen so far in the series. Martin Guptill and Finn Allen gave the Kiwis a flying start and by the time Allen departed, the score was already 78 in just 10th over. Will Young did not last long but skipper, Tom Latham gave Guptill good company during his brisk knock of 30 runs. However, it was the 96-run stand between Henry Nicholls and Guptill that put New Zealand in an authoritative position. Guptill went onto score his 18th ODI century and Nicholls too was quite fluent scoring 79 off just 54 balls. Glenn Phillips also played a handy cameo in the end and that has ensured that New Zealand get to a huge total here.

New Zealand have posted a mammoth total on the board on a very good batting deck. The Irish bowlers were a bit below-par and now have a humongous task in front of them. New Zealand look favourites to win this one and it will be a record run-chase if the Irish manage to chase this down.

Excellent running! Short again and over middle, Mitchell Santner pulls it away towards deep mid-wicket and races back for the second. The throw from the deep is a bit too wide and Santner is able to get the dive in and slide his bat inside the crease in time. New Zealand finish on 360/6!

49.52

Good fielding! Banged in short and over middle, Santner pulls it hard and in front of deep mid-wicket. Gareth Delany runs around to his right from the mid-wicket fence and saves a couple of runs for his team.

49.44

FOUR! Length this time, on off stump. Mitchell Santner stands tall and muscles it right back over the bowler's head for a boundary.

49.30

And again! Bowled into the deck and around off, Mitchell Santner is just a bit too eager to get bat on ball and is once again early in his swing.

49.20

Nicely bowled! Pace off from Little, bowled into the pitch and around off. Mitchell Santner looks too pull it away but is way too early in his shot.

49.14

FOUR! Poor delivery from Little and with that 350 comes up for New Zealand! Full and drifting down leg, Mitchell Santner just about gets a fine tickle on it. The ball runs away into the fine leg fence.

Brilliant penultimate over from the debutant, just 5 runs come off it. Full and wide again, Michael Bracewell creams it through the cover region but Curtis Campher shows excellent agility in the deep to keep it down to a couple.

48.51

A low full toss of off, this is heaved away well in front of square on the leg side for just a single.

48.41

Good stop! Full and wide again, this time Bracewell hits it firmly and to the left of the man at extra cover but Andy Balbirnie over there makes an excellent stop to keep it down to a single.

48.30

Another golden dot ball! Full again and outside off, Bracewell can't get it through the extra cover region.

Back of a length, around leg stump. Bracewell works it off his hips down to fine leg for a single.

Mitchell Santner is the next man in.

OUT! TAKEN! Really well held by Curtis Campher and Glenn Phillips departs just shy of his fifty! Josh Little deliver it on a length and wide outside off, inside the tramline. Phillips reaches out and tries to slash it over the point fence. Campher charges in from the backward point fence and holds onto it. Phillips departs after a fiery knock and Little does get a wicket.

47.34

FOUR! Josh Little is proving to be really expensive! Length ball on middle, Glenn Phillips thumps it right back over the bowler's head for a boundary.

47.31wd

WIDE! Full and wide, spilled beyond the tramline outside off, wide signaled.

47.21

Banged in short and over middle, Bracewell takes it on and pulls it one bounce to the fielder at deep mid-wicket for just a single.

47.21wd

WIDE! Attempted slower yorker at the toes but it is spilled way down leg, wide called.

47.14

FOUR! Back of a length and on middle, Michael Bracewell hangs back and muscles it off the splice of the bat, back past the bowler and into the fence.

DRINKS! What a spirited run-chase this has been from the Irish so far. Paul Stirling and Harry Tector are batting beautifully at the moment and have not allowed New Zealand to bring some control back in the game. This will be fifth highest successful run- chase ever, if Ireland does chase this down. Let's see how things pan out...

Drinks break! The Kiwis just keep marching on and have given themselves a great platform to go big in the final 15 overs. With 7 wickets in hand and two well-set batters at the crease, they will be eyeing a score of around 350. The only way Ireland can slow the opposition down is by picking up wickets and that too in heaps. The surface is good for batting but the hosts wouldn't want to chase a score in excess of 300-310. We are ready for play! The Irish players are out there in the middle. Martin Guptill and Finn Allen are the openers for New Zealand. Craig Young to start with the ball for Ireland. Here we go...

Andy Balbrine, the skipper of Ireland says that in the Super League there is always something to play and they have been hot and cold in the league and they need to be better today. Tells that the middle order has done well and they need to bat well at the top. Mentions that they need to do the same thing and just need to be a a bit better in execution. He informs that they have two changes with Graham Hume making his debut.

Tom Latham, the Kiwi skipper says that they will bat first and the surface looks really good. Mentions that it is about improving with every match for them. Adds that in ODI cricket it is really important to keep picking wickets and hopefully the spinners can do what they did in the last match. About Finn Allen, he says that Allen showed fantastic ability last time around and hopes that he can carry on the momentum. Informs that Lockie Ferguson comes back in for Jacob Duffy.

PITCH REPORT - Kyle McCallan is down for the pitch report. He says that it is a fresh day and there's some breeze as well, with a fresh pitch too. Adds that the pitch is the best for batting so far, it is hard and there's fresh grass on it too. Mentions that the captains will be looking to still bowl first and reckons the par score will be around 300.

Ireland (Playing XI) - Andy Balbirnie (C), Paul Stirling, Andy McBrine, Harry Tector, Curtis Campher, George Dockrell, Lorcan Tucker (WK), Gareth Delany (In place of Simi Singh), Graham Hume (On debut) (In place of Mark Adair), Craig Young, Josh Little.

New Zealand (Playing XI) - Martin Guptill, Finn Allen, Will Young, Tom Latham (C) (WK), Henry Nicholls, Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner, Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson (In place of Jacob Duffy), Blair Tickner.

TOSS - The coin goes up and lands in favour of Tom Latham. New Zealand have elected to BAT first.

New Zealand, on the other hand, have won both games but they have been far from clinical. Michael Bracewell has been the stand-out performer for the Blackcaps and he has really been the difference between the two sides. However, the top-order has not lived up to its billing so far and the skipper Tom Latham would hope for a more dominant performance from his boys. Can New Zealand whitewash Ireland here? Or will Ireland boys cross the line this time around? Let’s find out. Toss and team news in a bit.
