Right then. That is all we have from this clash! The next game will be between the two teams who are sitting pretty at the top of the table. Chennai will face Delhi on 4th October at 6 pm Local (2 pm GMT). See you there. Till then, take care and goodbye!

Shubhman Gill, the Player of the match, says that they were looking to keep wickets in hand early in the innings. Adds that hitting spinners on that wicket was not easy and he was targetting the shorter boundary. Says that he did not have many runs under his belt and it was important for him to not throw away his wicket and put the opposition ahead. Adds that he is used to playing on wickets where there is very low bounce as wrists come into play on those wickets.

Eoin Morgan, the skipper of Kolkata, says that the wicket was slower than it was in their last game. Adds that they bowled and fielded really well and it is a vast improvement from their last game. Says that Shakib Al Hasan is a huge player and he had a big impact in this game. Further adds that they are focused on playing good cricket and that has brought confidence in the dressing room.

Dinesh Karthik is up for a chat. He says that it was a great game of cricket. Adds that he went out and got lucky to get that first boundary. Tells that they did not want to take the game too deep and wanted to take risks in the middle. Credits Nitish Rana for playing second fiddle to Shubhman Gill. Signs off by saying fingers crossed as they are hoping to make it to the playoffs.

Kane Williamson, the captain of Hyderabad, is up for a chat. He says, they should’ve added a few more runs on the board. Their bowlers did well to stem up the run flow. Mentions things can change quickly in the Indian T20 League. Also says, they could not get off to a great start and missed a few partnerships in the middle. Informs, Malik has got a lot of pace, he is quite special. It was an amazing time for him to get a run in today’s game. Adds that they are out of the contention this season, so maybe the young lads will get some chances. Mentions, as a unit they can aim to put up good performances.

Hyderabad did not have the biggest of targets on the board and it was always going to be difficult to defend it. Jason Holder got a wicket at the top and Rashid Khan took an early wicket. But Shubman Gill and Nitish Rana put on a good stand in the middle overs. Siddarth Kaul sent back Gill and Jason Holder dismissed Nitish Rana but the game was done by then. If they had a bigger score on the board, their bowling would have given Kolkata a tougher fight. Umran Malik was very impressive as he bowled quite fast and made things difficult for the batters. His figures of 0/27 do not do justice to his performance in this game.

A really good show by Kolkata. They did lose Venkatesh Iyer early but Shubman Gill played a brilliant knock to make sure that there were no further hiccups. He fell after getting his fifty and Nitish Rana fell after laboring to 25 runs but the job on hand was almost done by then. Eoin Morgan and Dinesh Karthik finished things off after that. But they would be disappointed that they did not finish the game earlier and took it in the final over.

Two points for Kolkata and they move closer to a playoff birth! There is one spot up for grabs and there are currently 4 teams battling out for it. So, this game and these two points mean a lot to Kolkata. Hyderabad, on the other, were once again let down by their batting.

Commentary

The chase is set to begin. Hyderabad players stride out to the middle. Followed by Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer who come out to bat for Kolkata. Bhuvneshwar Kumar to start with the ball.

... The Run Chase ...

Right then. Kolkata dominated with the ball. Now, the onus is on their batters to chase down the target of 116 runs, to keep their playoffs hopes alive. Will Hyderabad be able to spoil their party? To find out, do join us for the chase on the other side.

Tim Southee says that the wicket is interesting and the ball is stopping a bit. Adds that he spent a bit of time home after the WTC final and it is nice to be a part of this competition. Says that he had a couple of camps back in New Zealand and kept himself fit. Finishes by saying that it is a tough surface so he hopes that they get a good start in the Powerplay.

It was a good day for the bowlers. Tim Southee and Shivam Mavi set the tone early on, by taking two wickets in quick succession. Shakib Al Hasan was excellent in the field and he got Williamson run out. The bowlers did well to stem up the run flow. They also kept chipping wickets at regular intervals, which put them ahead in the game. Varun Chakravarthy, Tim Southee and Shivam Mavi all picked up a brace each.

The top-order struggle continued for Hyderabad. They lost Wriddhiman Saha in the very first over and soon Jason Roy departed as well. The skipper, Kane Williamson, then took Mavi for a ride and smacked 18 runs in his over. But he could not continue for long as he got run out. Priyam Garg and Abhishek Sharma had a job on their hands of taking their team to safer shores. The latter though slipped out instantly. Priyam Garg went on to smack a few runs but got skittled out, as he went for the big shot, which left his side at 70/5. Hyderabad were in all sorts of trouble and could not find any inspiration with the bat. The lower order came in and contributed a little. They ended with 115 for 8 on the scoreboard.

Kolkata were on top of their game with the ball. They look hungry for the victory and also the playoffs spot. Hyderabad never got going with the blade. Kane Williamson's decision of batting first did not work out well for them. The bowlers made it difficult for them to score runs freely.

Eoin Morgan, the skipper of Kolkata, says that he is happy to bowl first. Adds that they played some good cricket in the last game and are happy to chase. Adds that he is hoping to score more runs with the bat. Further says that they have done a good job in the second phase of the competition. Informs that Tim Seifert misses out and Shakib Al Hasan comes in.

Kane Williamson, the skipper of Hyderabad, is up for a chat. He says, they will bat first. It looks like a good surface. Mentions, it is an unfortunate position to be in, but as a team they want to make sure the boys get their chance to use this stage to develop. TOSS UPDATE - Hyderabad have won the toss and they have elected to BAT first.

Kolkata have all to play for as they have to win this game in order to stand a chance for making it to the playoffs. Their batting has fired in the tournament but it is their bowling which has been a touch inconsistent. Their captain, Eoin Morgan, has been short of runs and that has hampered their batting in the middle overs. Andre Russell getting injured at such a crucial juncture has not helped them either. Will we witness another masterclass from Venkatesh Iyer? Or will Hyderabad spoil Kolkata's party by handing them a defeat? Only time will tell. Stay tuned for toss and further updates.

Hyderabad have had a season to forget as they have failed to announce themselves in the second leg of the Indian T20 League and they are languishing at the bottom of the points table. Kane Williamson and his boys would be playing for pride now and they would be eager to finish on a high. Hyderabad have given chances to some of their young blood at the fag end of the competition in the form of Abhishek Sharma and Priyam Garg. Kolkata would be wary of the fact that Hyderabad have nothing to lose and they will come out all guns blazing, especially their young domestic Indian players.

Hello folks! A very warm welcome to game number 49 of the Indian T20 League where Kolkata will face Hyderabad. The race for the playoffs is heating up in UAE but this game sees a slightly different scenario as one team is well and truly out of the playoffs race while Kolkata are fighting hard and are ahead in the race, courtesy of a healthy net run rate. Having said that, this one is still a must-win game for Kolkata and they would be looking to give it their all.
