Right then, that is all we have from this cracker of a game! Our caravan now moves to Wankhede stadium where Delhi will lock horns against Rajasthan on Friday, 22nd April. That game starts at 7.30 pm IST (2.00 pm GMT). Our coverage though will start well in advance. So do join us for the same. Till then, goodbye and cheers!

Mukesh Choudhary is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH. He says he never thought he would never play cricket and he use to play all the sports in school and as he grew he gained interest in cricket. Mentions he tries to swing the ball and he practices for it and has worked on his wrists. Mentions there is no pressure  and the seniors help him a lot.

Ravindra Jadeja, the skipper of Chennai, says that they were very tensed but they believed in Dhoni. Mentions Dhoni is still as good as he was. States that Mukesh Choudhary swings the new ball and that’s why he was given the overs in the Powerplay. Adds they have a lot of experience and they know when to perform and when not to. Admits the fielding was not great and they need to work on it.

Time for the presentation.

Dwaine Pretorius is down for a chat. He says he wanted to play the scoop shot in previous over of Bumrah but he waited and then when he went for it it came off. Adds they knew they needed 5 boundaries and it came. States he is hopeful of winning a few more games and he is happy with his contribution.

Rohit Sharma, the skipper of Mumbai, says that it was a very good fight in the end by them, the bowlers kept them in the game but Dhoni took it away from them. Mentions they are losing early wickets and playing the catch up game but they got to a reasonable score and always had them under pressure but Dhoni got them home. Adds they back themselves to defend anything but the pitch was good and they could have got more and in the end it was not enough.

Time for some interviews!

Unfortunately for Mumbai they have lost seven games in a row now. They did pretty well to get in a position to win this game after the disastrous start with the bat annd credit should be given to Tilak Varma, the way he paced his innings to take Mumbai to a fighting total. Sams then, was the star with the ball and almost took his team over the line but Jaydev Unadkat after bowling quite well through the game just could not hold his nerves against the genius of MS Dhoni. Mumbai now are staring down the barrel and they will need a miracle to qualify for the playoffs from here.

Chennai started the match with a bang as Mukesh Choudhary made the new ball talk and got three wickets early in the Powerplay. Mumbai were always behind the 8-ball after that but Mumbai managed to put a decent total on the board in the end. The death bowling remains a concern for Chennai but they still had the match in the grasp after the first innings, They lost early wickets in the chase but the third wicket partnership between Robin Uthappa and Ambati Rayudu steadied the ship and then Dwaine Pretorius and Dhoni has a great partnership in the end. However, it was Dhoni who turned back the clock as he finished the chase in his cool and calm manner as he smashed 16 runs from the last four balls.

It’s an EL Clasico of the Indian T20 League and one can never expect the game between these two sides to end without some drama. It was the case yet again in this game as the momentum kept swinging from one team to another but in the end it is Chennai that have emerged victorious. Thanks to the partnership between Dwaine Pretorius and MS Dhoni and when it comes down to the last over, MS Dhoni is always the favourite to win the game, no matter what the target is!

VINTAGE DHONI FOLKS!!! Chennai clinch the thriller off the last ball of the game and it is none other than MS Dhoni, arguably the best finisher in modern cricket who turns the game in his side’s favour with a final over heroics yet again!

Commentary

We are back for the chase! Mumbai players walk out to the middle. Robin Uthappa and Ruturaj Gaikwad are the openers for Chennai. Daniel Sams will start with the ball for Mumbai. Here we go...

...THE RUN CHASE…

Now the target is not a big one but the Mumbai bowlers have not been at their best. The Chennai batting has done decently in recent times and will back themselves to chase it down. The wicket is not the easiest, it is gripping but Mumbai will need early wickets. Can they get it? We will find out.

Tilak Varma is down for a chat. He says  that it was important to take time at the start as the wicket was gripping and seaming a bit. Adds that that the wicket was playing differently than they thought. He applauds Mukesh for bowling well and tells that plan was to play 20 overs. Mentions that there plan was to get 145-150 and tells that there was dew in the end and they will have to bowl well.

The Mumbai batting struggled! They lost wickets at regular intervals and that did not help their cause. The top three failed to cross the 10-run mark and then, except for Tilak Varma, the others failed to make most of the start they got. Tilak Varma though played really well, he played with a lot of responsibility and has helped Mumbai finish well with the help of Jaydev Unadkat.

Their bowlers were really good throughout, Mukesh Choudhary began brilliantly getting two wickets in the very first over itself. Mitchell Santner and Maheesh Theekshana supported him well in the Powerplay and they did not let Mumbai score freely. In the middle overs, Jadeja too was decent. However, Chennai will be disappointed with the finish. When they got Pollard out, 150 looked far away but they will be disappointed they let Mumbai get over that.

Have to say that 7th wicket stand has really turned the momentum towards Mumbai and they surely have a score to defend on a a wicket which is on the slower side. However, Chennai at the moment will be happier of the two sides heading into the break.

Couple to end the innings! A low full toss, around off. Jaydev Unadkat hits it to deep extra-cover and gets a couple. So good last over for Mumbai, they finish with 155/7 in 20 overs!

19.56

SIX! Jaydev Unadkat gets a maximum and Mumbai goes past 150 now! It is a slower short delivery, around off. Jaydev Unadkat pulls it over deep square leg and just over the ropes for a maximum. The fielder there in the deep tries his best to catch the ball over the fence with a dive but he goes beyond the boundary line with the ball.

19.42

A low full toss, outside off. Jaydev Unadkat carves it to deep cover for a couple.

19.30

Brilliant from Bravo! Comes 'round the wicket again and nails a yorker, outside off. Jaydev Unadkat looks to get a bat on it but misses.

19.24

FOUR! Another boundary for Mumbai! Slower length delivery from 'round the wicket, around off. Jaydev Unadkat goes for the sweep shot. The ball catches the outside edge and goes right and over Dhoni for a boundary.

19.11

Ohh...unlucky there for Varma! Full delivery, on off. Varma drills it straight down the ground but knocks over the stumps at the bowler's end. So just a single in the end.

19.11wd

WIDE! A slower off-cutter, around leg. Varma leaves it alone and the ball goes just past the leg stumps.

18.52

18.42

Another catch put down, this time it is Dube! A slower fullish delivery, outside off. Jaydev Unadkat slices it in the air towards deep point. Dube comes running and settles under it but drops it in the end. Two runs taken.

18.33

In the air...but it falls short and Fifty comes up for Tilak Varma! What an innings under pressure from this young man. A slower length delivery, on off. Varma goes for a slog towards the leg side. He miscues it and the ball goes in the air towards mid-wicket. It falls in the vacant region and three runs are taken.

18.20

18.16

17.40

A slower length delivery, outside off. Varma goes for a reverse scoop it but misses.

17.31

A slower fuller delivery on off. Jaydev Unadkat pushes it to covers for a single.

Jaydev Unadkat walks out to bat!

Mumbai need to get to the 150-run mark. Really do not think 140 will be enough no matter how slow the wicket is. Can the lower order along with Tilak get to that mark?

17.2W

OUT! LBW! That's a Dwayne Bravo special! Completely outfoxes Sams there and Mumbai lose their seventh wicket! Bravo goes for his slower yorker on off. Sams completely misses it as he looks to block it away. There is a big appeal and the umpire raises his finger! Sams takes a review and the UltraEdge shows no bat involved. The Ball Tracker rolls in and it shows three reds.  Sams has to walk back and Bravo gets his second wicket.

OUT! TAKEN! Another one bites the dust! It is the big wicket of Jadeja. Mumbai now surely on top. Sticks to bowling it wide outside off, another slower one. Jadeja looks to go over covers but probably is through a little early. It goes a lot straighter than he would have liked. The man at long off runs to his right and takes it. 50 needed in 26.

Dwaine Pretorius is the next man in.

OUT! CAUGHT! Here is another wicket and Sams gets his fourth wicket! Outstanding catch from Kieron Pollard at long off and good innings from Ambati Rayudu comes to an end. A length delivery on middle. Ambati Rayudu backs away and looks to go inside out. However, he fails to get enough connection on it and ends up hitting it it to long off. Kieron Pollard there runs in and takes a fantastic low catch diving forward. Big wicket for Mumbai and Chennai now need 54 from 31 balls!

A slightly shorter delivery, outside off. Ambati Rayudu cuts it to deep point for a couple.

13.21

A fuller delivery on middle. Ravindra Jadeja works it to short fine leg for a single.

Well bowled! Ambati Rayudu dances down the track and Hrithik Shokeen tries to fire this down the leg side. Ambati Rayudu in the ends clips it to deep square leg for a single.

DRINKS! The game is quite even at the moment! Chennai need just below 10 per over. They have a set batter out there but Jadeja is relatively new to the crease. The batting is also long but on this wicket, one can't let the rate shoot to over 12. Mumbai on the other hand, will exactly be looking to do so, they would know if they get Rayudu here, they will well be on top of the game. An interesting passage awaits.

A nothing shot from him. He walks across, this is bowled shorter and on the body, he plays a half-hearted pull shot and it goes straight to deep square leg.

7.40

NOT OUT! That was too close to call and probably the right decision in the end! Uthappa just never started walking back as he always had a doubt!

Run out appeal! It is taken upstairs! It is a direct hit but Tilak Varma has indicated he has made it in.

Another run to end but a good over for Mumbai! The 100 is also up! On off, this is carved out to deep point for a single.

14.51

Just the one now! This one turns away, the length is also dragged back. Pollard looks to defend, this goes off the outside edge towards short third man for one.

14.46

SIX! That is a massive hit! Wow! Huge one! No small boundaries here and he has cleared it with ease. Maheesh Theekshana misses his length by a little and he pays the price. Fuller and on middle, this is lofted nonchalantly over the long on fence for a biggie.

14.31

Drop and run! Not easy to get this away on this wicket! On off, flatter, Tilak plays it towards cover and gets to the other end.

A dot to end a successful over from Bravo! Length and on off, this is defended back to the bowler.

13.50

BEATEN! Good comeback! Pollard once again steps out, this is on a length and around off, it lands and moves away. Pollard is beaten.

13.44

FOUR! Pollard is off the mark with a boundary! Not sure if he intended it to go there! Length and on off, Pollard steps out and at the end, opens the face of the bat. It still goes more off the outside edge, past short third man and into the fence.

DRINKS! Just when the partnership was building for Mumbai between two young players, Bravo comes in and outfoxes the debutant, Hrithik Shokeen. Mumbai have lost half of their side now and Chennai would be looking to restrict them to as low a total as possible. However, there is still a threat of Kieron Pollard as he walks in now and Chennai know very well, what the big man can do. Can Tilak Varma and Kieron Pollard take Mumbai to a respectable total here?

13.3W

OUT! TAKEN! Robin Uthappa makes no mistake this time. Hrithik Shokeen departs, he though did a decent job for his side. He just had to go after everything now. This is short as Bravo sees Hrithik Shokeen step out. It is outside off too. Shokeen looks to slap it but it goes off the top edge towards mid off and Robin Uthappa takes it.

13.20

Good stuff from Bravo! Hrithik Shokeen moves across way too early and also goes down on on knee pretty soon to play the scoop. Bravo spots it and bowls it short and outside off. He still plays the scoop but misses.

13.11lb

Some swing for Bravo! This is on the pads, it tails back in. Tilak Varma looks to flick but misses. It hits the pad and rolls on the leg side. A run taken. Leg bye.

12.52

Two more! On middle, slightly shorter, Jadeja may have thought he is going to step out. Hrithik Shokeen pulls it in between long on and deep mid-wicket. Dwaine Pretorius over runs the ball but recovers well. Two again.

This is tossed up on off, Hrithik Shokeen comes down the track and looks to go big, this turns away, he slices it up in the air towards cover. Jadeja settles under it and spills it. One taken. Excellent comeback by Santner.

11.50

DRINKS! Don't think we need to mention who is on top at the moment! Chennai are bossing the game, they have the big names back in the dug out and they would want to continue the good work. Mumbai on the other hand, need a partnership, they still have quite some batting left but they will hope the two out there can play for at least another 5 overs. Can they do so? Can they get their team to a position where they can think of getting to the 150-run mark?

DROPPED! Jadeja has put down one he would take 9 times out of 10. He was probably worried about the man running in from long off. Jadeja runs after it from covers and the fielder at long off runs in. Jadeja calls for it but then spills it. OUT! TAKEN! That is a simple catch for Mitchell Santner who is making a comeback into the side. What a start for Chennai and Mukesh Choudhary! This guy is making a habit of taking big wickets, got Kohli earlier on in the tournament and now Rohit. This one seemed like it held in the surface! On middle, fuller, slightly fuller actually. Holds in the surface a touch. Rohit looks to flick but is a touch early in the stroke, he ends up chipping it to mid on where it is taken easily.

0.10

Good start by Mukesh Choudhary! Starts off with a yorker, it comes back in from outside off, Rohit gets his bat down in time and jams it iout.

We are moments away from the live action! Chennai players make their way out to the middle. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan are the openers for Mumbai. Mukesh Choudhary to start with the ball for Chennai. Rohit Sharma is on strike. Here we go...

There is an altogether different fan-base for this game, it is called El Clasico for a reason! Will it live up to the billing today. Both teams making changes and it will be interesting to see which of these players coming in make an impact. The new kid on the block, Hrithik Shokeen is one to watch out for!

Mumbai (Playing XI) - Ishan Kishan (WK), Rohit Sharma (C), Dewald Brevis, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Kieron Pollard, Daniel Sams (In place of Fabian Allen), Riley Meredith (In place of Tymal Mills), Hrithik Shokeen (In place of Murugan Ashwin), Jasprit Bumrah, Jaydev Unadkat.

Chennai (Playing XI) - Ruturaj Gaikwad, Robin Uthappa, Ambati Rayudu, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja (C), MS Dhoni (WK), Dwaine Pretorius (In place of Chris Jordan), Mitchell Santner,(In place of Moeen Ali) Dwayne Bravo, Maheesh Theekshana, Mukesh Choudhary.

Rohit Sharma, the skipper of Mumbai, says that the surfaces have changed quite a lot from the last games but the team batting first have won and losing the toss maybe a blessing in disguise. Informs they have three changes, Riley Meredith comes in, Sams too and Hrithik Shokeen is making his debut and they want to maintain the balance of the side. Adds there is a bit of bounce and Riley Meredith can bowl quick and it will be interesting to see what they can do and the offie comes in as there are few left handers in the opposition. Ends by saying they need to win all games but they are taking one game at a time and not looking way too ahead.

Ravindra Jadeja, the skipper of Chennai, says the wicket looks damp and they want to take advantage. Mentions it might spin a little bit and they wanted to take advantage and dew could also play a factor. Informs they have two changes, Dwaine Pretorius and Santner come in for Moeen and Jordan.

TOSS - The coin goes up and lands in favour of Chennai. They have elected to BOWL first.

PITCH REPORT - Matthew Hayden is down for the pitch report. He says that the conditions are hot and humid. Tells that they are playing at the centre of the venue. Adds that the last time this pitch was used when Punjab went against Bangalore, so expect lot of runs. Mentions that the pitch is little dry and it is nice and hard. Adds that the big question is whether the captain that win the toss bat first or not? He reckons that it will suit Chennai to bat first and it will bring their spinners in the game.

Riley Meredith is seen getting his cap in the Mumbai huddle, so expect at least one change in the Mumbai lineup today.

The big man from the Caribbean, the Mumbai all-rounder Kieron Pollard has decided to call time on his international career. He has been a tremendous servant of West Indies cricket and also for the team, he is representing today. Will we see Pollard unleashing his power today? Let’s find out.

Mumbai, on the other hand, are going through an even worst start as they have lost all their six games so far. Like Chennai, Mumbai’s problem has been their bowling attack and apart from Bumrah, other bowlers have failed to make any impact. The batting looks strong but they need their skipper, Rohit Sharma to fire and we might just see him unleash his might today. Can Mumbai finally get their first points on the board? Or will Chennai bag their second win? We shall find out. Toss and team sheets in a while.

The defending champions, Chennai came with a new skipper, Ravindra Jadeja this year in a bid to create the same magic of the last season but have unfortunately won only one out of the six games so far. Their batting has put up a decent show with Robin Uthappa and Shivam Dube playing some handy knocks but the bowling department has failed to step up. Maheesh Theekshana is doing his job quite well from the last few games but Chennai need an all-round effort to get those two crucial points on the board.

It’s El Clasico time, folks! Yes, Mumbai will be going head-to-head against Chennai in this game number 33 of the 15th edition of the Indian T20 League. It has been a season to forget so far for both these champion teams and let’s hope the fierce rivalry and the urgency to get points on the board, brings out the best of both these teams.
