That's all we have from this entertaining game. West Indies gathered 10 important points from it and are on track to claim all 30 and jump to number 3 on the table of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League 2020-2022/23. Can the Dutch team bounce back? The second ODI is on Thursday, 2nd June 2022 at 2.30 pm IST (9 am GMT). Do join us in advance for the build-up. Until then, it's goodbye and cheers!

Nicholas Pooran, the skipper of West Indies, says that it's a lovely win and they are happy to get 10 points. He calls the Netherlands team a competitive one and thinks that they batted well in the Powerplay. Shares that the pitch was nice to bat and feels they took time to adjust with the ball. Adds that they pulled things back in the middle overs. He is happy with the way they built partnerships and lauds Brooks and Hope for their knocks, and is also pleased with the effort of King. Pooran further says that they are here to win and have some fun, and he hopes to continue to entertain the crowd. Also adds that they want to get better as a team.

Pieter Seelaar, the Dutch skipper, says that 240 wasn't the worst effort with the bat. Praises the opening stand of West Indies. Mentions that Logan van Beek provided them with the breakthroughs and they picked up the momentum but they were then unable to build constant pressure. Feels that the little bit of drizzle made the pitch good for batting and then lauds the batting of Hope and King. Tells that West Indies have high-quality players and they waited for them to make some mistakes which they didn't. Opines that maintaining constant pressure will be the key. Counts the positives and praises Vikramjit Singh and Teja Nidamanuru for their knocks. Signs off by saying that they need tighten up in every facet of the game.

SHAI HOPE (119*) IS THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH! The opener says that he is happy to get over the line. Adds that the main priority was to take the team home. Mentions that he just loves to bat and shares that he was cramping up, but it happens. States that he is enjoying his time, it's a bit cold so he has to acclimatize to the conditions.

Presentation time...

Earlier, the Netherlands batted with plenty of application to post a decent total on the board. They could have done better had their set batters carried on for long, and this is something to improve for them in future games. Their bowling was flat for most parts, and the phase where they picked three wickets in quick succession was the only time the Dutchmen appeared to be in the game.

Chasing a revised target of 247, the West Indian openers started cautiously but then pressed on the accelerator. Shai Hope and Shamarh Brooks displayed great shots and provided the touring team with a perfect start. They raised a century stand to deflate the confidence of the Dutch team, but the departure of Brooks led to a mini-collapse. Three wickets went down in a jiffy, giving a sniff to the home team, but the presence of Shai meant that West Indies always had things in control. In Brandon King, Hope found an able ally, and together they navigated through the period of pressure to earn a series lead.

Easily done in the end, and the touring team takes this rain-truncated game! This match appeared to be slipping away from West Indies at one time, but the arrival of Brandon King shut all the hopes of the Dutch team. King batted with a lot of intent and punctured all the momentum that the home team was gaining.

Commentary

It is time for the reply! The hosts' players are in a huddle and they now stride out to the middle. They are followed by the Windies openers, Shai Hope and Shamarh Brooks! Logan van Beek has the first new ball in hand. Here we go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Revised target as per the DLS method - West Indies will need 247 runs in 45 overs to win this match.

West Indies were not up to the mark in the field. Their bowling lacked the discipline and barring the efforts from Alzarri Joseph and Akeal Hosein, all were very inconsistent. The fielding was also below par, especially after the rain break. Despite all the rain, this pitch still appears to be great for batting. It's supposed to slow down in the second innings, and if that happens, West Indies could be in a spot of bother. The start is going to be crucial. Do join us in a short while for the chase.

A decent batting show by the Netherlands, and they have put a competitive total on the board. It was a strong start for them, with Vikramjit Singh striking well and raising a 63-run stand for the opening wicket with Max O'Dowd. The Dutch batters in the top half got starts, but all were culprits for not extending their stay in the middle. There was an extended rain break and this match got reduced to 45-overs-per-side, and the hosts batted with a lot of intent after the resumption. Debutant Teja Nidamanuru showed his range and his efforts took the Netherlands to 240 and we will have to wait for the DLS revised total.

A great finish for the Dutch! 49 runs in the last 5 overs, of which, 15 came in the last over and the hosts will be the happier of the two teams heading into the break.

Two to end! NETHERLANDS END WITH 240/7! A full toss on the pads, Ryan Klein whips it through mid-wicket and takes two. A really good last over for the Netherlands.

Ryan Klein is the new batter.

44.5W

OUT! TIMBER! You miss, I hit stuff from Mayers! A slower one in the line of the stumps, holding a bit on the surface. Logan van Beek swings his bat but is early into the shot. He misses and it hits the stumps.

44.41

Well bowled! A yorker on middle, this is only jammed down to long on for one. Can't do a lot with those deliveries.

44.34

FOUR! Another brilliant effort in the field but in vain! Nkrumah Bonner is the man this time! A short one, on the body, this is pulled towards backward square leg. Nkrumah Bonner in the deep runs to his right, and stretches his right hand to prevent it from flying over the fence. He though fails to grab it cleanly and it eventually trickles away to the fence.

44.26

SIX! Excellent effort from Walsh but he can't stop it from going over the ropes. FIFTY FOR Teja Nidamanuru on debut! That is a superb knock and he is well and truly the difference between the Netherlands ending with 220 and 240. Superb stuff. A full toss, he gets a gift to get to that milestone. He swings it towards mid-wicket. Walsh there, runs back, leaps and then tries to push it back in but fails to do so.

44.12

Two to begin the last over! Fuller and on middle, Teja swings, it goes off the inner half, through mid-wicket for two runs.

Kyle Mayers to bowl the last over.

42.40

Yet another dot! Shorter in length and on middle, Teja Nidamanuru looks to play the paddle scoop but misses. This is turning out to be a good comeback by Anderson Phillip!

42.30

42.31wd

WIDE! 7 from the first two balls then as this is bowled down the leg side. Wided.

42.24

FOUR! Sliced away! That is a really good shot. Teja Nidamanuru makes room, and Anderson Phillip bowls a full toss on middle. He was looking for a yorker but it does not come off. Teja Nidamanuru slices it past short third man for a boundary.

42.12

Really well bowled but excellent batting! A yorker on middle, Teja Nidamanuru jams it out with soft hands towards mid-wicket. Two taken.

Well bowled! A yorker on middle, this is only jammed down to long on for one. Can't do a lot with those deliveries.

WE HAVE EVEN BETTER NEWS! We have a start time. Resumption is scheduled at 3.35 pm local (1.35 pm GMT). We will update you about the scenario of the game once we get some official news. Luckily, we have not lost too many overs. It will be a 45-overs-per-side match now.

Update 3.15 pm local (1.15 pm GMT) - The covers are coming off. That’s very good news however, it is very dark and gloomy and it seems like it could rain any moment. Hoping for some good news though. Fingers crossed!

Update 2.43 pm local (12.43 pm GMT) - The covers are coming back on. It’s not raining as of now but pretty sure they are expecting some. This only means the wait continues. One thing is for sure, we are going to have a shortened game. Well, it has started to drizzle now. This is not good, the drainage here does not seem the best and the rain arriving again means the chances of play are diminishing.

Update 2.11 pm local (12.11 pm GMT) - It has not been raining for quite some time now. The players are looking nice and relaxed in the dressing room and a few are outside trying to keep themselves warmed up. The two umpires, Richard Illingworth and Rizwan Akram have strolled out now. The match referee is also with them, and they all are trying to gather the latest information from the head of the groundsmen. The outfield appears to be in a good shape but there are a few damp areas. They don't have the Super Soppers and trying to squeeze the water by using the sponge rollers. Our wait for the official update continues...

Update 1.58 pm local (11.58 am GMT) - The covers are being peeled off but the hover cover stays. Dark angry clouds are still hanging over the ground though. We're still waiting for any official update regarding the inspection. Stay tuned, we will keep you posted.

Update 1.50 pm local (11.50 am GMT) - The fresh pictures from the ground suggest that the rain has relented. The conditions though have stayed gloomy. The groundsmen have surrounded by the covers and are starting the drying up process. Stay tuned...

Update 1.24 pm local (11.24 am GMT) - The drizzle is turning into proper rain now. It's coming down hard and the umpires have called for covers. The groundsmen are a bit slow in running with the hover cover and the on-air commentator quips, they are volunteers and not professionals. Hmm... It has brightened up slightly and let's hope, it's just a passing shower. Stay tuned for latest updates...

Right on the money. Back of a length, around middle and off, Vikramjit Singh goes on the back foot and defends it on the leg side.

It's bright and sunny at the moment, good to have these conditions after all the rain. The forecast though is still for some rain spells during the course of this match. We hope that doesn't happen. The West Indian players are entering the ground. The pitch was under covers, so there may be some juice to extract for the seam bowlers. Max O'Dowd and Vikramjit Singh are the openers for the Dutch! The left-hander will be on strike and he will be facing Alzarri Joseph. Here we go...

West Indies (PLAYING XI) - Shai Hope (WK), Nkrumah Bonner, Shamarh Brooks, Nicholas Pooran (C), Brandon King, Keacy Carty (On debut), Kyle Mayers, Alzarri Joseph, Anderson Phillip, Hayden Walsh, Akeal Hosein.

Netherlands (PLAYING XI) - Max O'Dowd, Vikramjit Singh, Musa Ahmed, Bas de Leede, Teja Nidamanuru (On debut), Scott Edwards (WK), Pieter Seelaar (C), Logan van Beek, Aryan Dutt, Ryan Klein, Vivian Kingma.

Pieter Seelaar, the Dutch skipper, says they would have liked to bat first anyway. Adds they have played some cricket here and the mood is good in the camp. Informs there is one debutant, Teja Nidamanuru will be making his debut.

Nicholas Pooran, the captain of West Indies, says they want to see how the wicket plays, as the covers were on and they are worried about that and he hopes they can put up a good show. States it is an exciting time for him and he hopes he can continue the good work done by Pollard. Mentions he is very instinctive and he hopes that works out for him. Informs there is one debutant in the XI and they are excited to find out how Keacy Carty goes.

Pitch report - The preparation has not been ideal due to the rain but the groundsmen have done a great job to get this strip ready. Traditionally, this pitch is very good for batting, with no sideways movement and true bounce. The wicket is a bit dry and could slow down as the game progresses.

TOSS - WEST INDIES HAVE WON THE TOSS AND ELECTED TO FIELD!

Plenty to gain for both teams from this 3-match ODI series. As we all know, all these games are a part of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League 2020-2022/23, and West Indies are stationed at number 10 on the table as opposed to the Netherlands who are positioned last. The team from the Caribbean Island would be eyeing 30 easy points from this tour, and if that happens, they will shoot up to number 3 on the table. The Dutch team though won't make it easy, as they also have a chance to break into the top 10 by winning all the games against a relatively weaker West Indian side.

Did you know? The Netherlands facing West Indies is a very rare occurrence. These two teams have played each other just twice in ODIs, with the Dutch team losing by a massive margin on both occasions - by 10 wickets in 2007 and by 215 runs in 2011.

The Netherlands have the advantage of playing on their home turf. They rarely get these opportunities against a Test-playing nation and would be eager to showcase their talent. The Dutch team also has slotted in a few new faces, but the core has remained intact. Their recent tour to New Zealand wasn't much fruitful, but they at least gained something in terms of exposure. These upcoming three games will hand them a golden chance to upset a new-look West Indian team, and we can expect a close series. Stay tuned for the toss and Playing XI of both teams...

West Indies are all set to step into the new era under the leadership of Nicholas Pooran, and the young man has a fairly inexperienced squad at his disposal. He has the responsibility to build a team, and with many experienced heads missing, it's going to be a daunting task. Their recent record in this format has been abysmal, and Pooran has the job to lead a turnaround starting this game.

Welcome, folks! It's time to taste some international action in the 50-over format. Away from all the glitz of the recently concluded Indian T20 League, this is a game involving Netherlands and West Indies. Both are lesser-fancied teams in the international circuit, one due to its not-so-great record, another due to its declining stature. Still, the touring party could be the favourite against the Dutch team because of a superior squad. Let's hope for a great game.
