New Zealand had an off day on Day 3 and conceded way too many runs trying to bounce the English batters out and were a bit unlucky to have to face the new ball completely under lights. Stuart Broad wrecked havoc and the hosts found themselves with half the side back in the hut and a mountain and a half to climb. Can they put on a bit of fight and frustrate the visitors? Or will the English bowling attack tear through the remaining batters? We shall find out soon as the start of Day 4 isn't far away.

Hello and a warm welcome everyone to Day 4 of the first Test between New Zealand and England at the Bay Oval in Mount Manganui. The game flowed at quite a rapid pace on Day 3 as a total of 13 wickets fell and currently, the visitors are in pole position to go on and get the win on Day 4 itself.

... DAY 4, SESSION 1 ...

Right then, New Zealand still need 331 runs to win and have just five wickets in hand. It is more than just a tough ask and the game seems to be going in favor of England. But, one thing that is guaranteed is that there will be a fight shown by the Kiwis, how long it lasts is a different thing though. Can England clean up the hosts early on Day 4? England ended Day 1 in a commanding position and after a bit of a fight from the hosts on the second day, the visitors are now well and truly on the verge of victory. This is largely due to their solid batting effort and a scintillating spell by Stuart Broad under the lights. Broad bowled 10 overs on the trot but he did all the damage early on as he picked up four out of the five wickets. Broad got the ball to come into right and left-handers alike and ripped through the Kiwi top order. Ollie Robinson supported him well and now they will look to come out on Day 4 and wrap up the game in the first session or so.

New Zealand failed to bowl out England in the second session and whilst they did eventually get the job done, it was right around when the lights started to take full effect. Just like late on Day 1, the Kiwis lost wickets in heap late on Day 3 and were soon five down for just 28 runs. After that, Daryl Mitchell and Michael Bracewell weathered the storm and as the ball got a bit older, scoring became easy as well. The pair has done well but will need to at least bat the whole of the first session on Day 4 together to give their side an outside chance.

Three days have now gone by in the first Test between New Zealand and England and it has been blockbuster entertainment on all three days. Day 3 started with England leading by 98 runs and they managed to just keep scoring whilst losing wickets and ended up with a big lead of 393 runs. Currently, the hosts are reeling at 63 for 5 and would need more than a miracle to escape defeat with two full days of action remaining.

New Zealand had their tails up after dismissing Joe Root in the final over before the tea break. However, they were unable to get any early breakthrough but did manage to keep runs in check. Michael Bracewell was rewarded for his efforts as he foxed Ben Stokes with a good delivery. Ben Foakes did trouble them but Blair Tickner got rid of him much to the relief of the hosts. However, since that wicket, they have been unable to break this stand between Jack Leach and Ollie Robinson. They will look to reassess their plans during the dinner break and come back to bundle out the visitors. It is all nicely poised in this first Test, so don't go anywhere and join us back at 11.30 am IST (6.00 am GMT) for the third and final session of Day 3.

Session Summary - 27.5 overs, 112 runs and 2 wickets. As both teams head into the dinner break on Day 3, it will be England the happier of the two sides as they have stretched their lead to 368 runs. After tea, Ben Stokes joined Ben Foakes out in the middle, the England skipper took his time initially but started scoring freely once he got his eye in. However, he perished in his quest to up the ante but it was Ben Foakes holding one end for visitors. He was dismissed soon after reaching his fourth fifty of his Test career. New Zealand came out with a clear game plan and went straightaway with the short ball tactic. Neil Wagner led the way for them and was rewarded with the wicket of Stuart Broad in his second over. He was taken for 36 in his four overs after that wicket but a change of ends paid dividends for him. He dismissed Ollie Pope to hand New Zealand a much-needed breakthrough. It was then Blair Tickner who struck to remove Harry Brook who was threatening to take the game away from them. In the last over before tea, Michael Bracewell got rid of Joe Root to put New Zealand right back in the game. Session Summary - 25.1 overs, 158 runs and 3 wickets. What an entertaining first session we have had here. One would feel that the wicket of Joe Root in the final over has titled the balance in New Zealand's favour. England began the day with the lead of 98 runs and were dealt an early blow losing Stuart Broad in the third over of the day. Joe Root had a nervy start to his innings but grew in confidence as he progressed. He and Ollie Pope took their chances against the short ball barrage by New Zealand and it came off. Ollie Pope fell one short of the fifty-run mark but Joe Root and Harry Brook got together notching up their respective fifties. The latter perished shortly after completing his fifty and the dismissal of Joe Root just before Tea has pegged England back a bit.

OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Neil Wagner has the last laugh here and seems to have gotten rid of Ollie Pope but the umpires have gone upstairs to check for a fair catch and the soft signal is out. The third umpire checks it a couple of times and is satisfied with the catch. Coming to the delivery, Wagner bangs it in short and over leg stump but it is a bit slower. Pope looks to shuffle a bit and pull it behind square but only manages to get a glove on it. The ball loops up a bit and goes to the right of the keeper. Day 2 proved to be quite an interesting day as a pegged-back New Zealand side fought really hard with the bat and almost dusted off the entire deficit. This however wasn't quite backed up by their bowlers and England ended Day 2 with a lead of 98 runs and now have a chance to bat long and in good batting conditions as well. The hosts will need to put on a spirited performance with the ball if they are to keep the final English lead to a minimum. A crucial first session awaits.

It is Day 3 of the first Test match between New Zealand and England at the Bay Oval and it is set up to be yet another exciting day of cricketing action as both teams look to make a push for a favorable result. England do have the lead and look likely to put the home side under serious pressure here and it will be interesting to see how the Kiwis respond.

... DAY 3, SESSION 1...

Right then, England lead by 98 runs and there's still plenty of time left in the Test match. Day 3 is known as the moving day but every day so far has been a moving day in this game and we will hope that the game continues to move at a good pace. The visitors have their noses well in front and would want to stretch this lead at least beyond the 300-run mark. New Zealand on the other hand will look to keep the lead to a minimum as batting will definitely get a bit tougher late on Day 3 and on the remaining days as well. New Zealand did extremely well to claw their way back into the game but when they had the chance to bowl with the new ball under lights, they didn't make full use of it. The lack of a second new-ball bowler cost them a bit but Blair Tickner came on as the first change and after a bit of perseverance, he got the breakthrough. After this Tim Southee bowled some probing lines but didn't get any reward. Scott Kuggeleijn came on to bowl late on in the day and picked up a wicket in his very first over and this could have been doubled if not for a miscommunication between the bowler and keeper. In the end, the Kiwis would have wanted to have picked up a couple of more wickets but the way they batted should prove to be a confidence booster for them on Day 3.

England were made to toil a bit more in the field at the start of the final session but they did get the job done and ended with a small lead of 19 runs. Under lights, Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett didn't hesitate one bit and started playing shots and sent the bad balls to the fence. The pair put on 52 runs before Duckett got out and then Crawley too followed suit by playing a lazy shot. Ollie Pope was joined by the nightwatchman Stuart Broad and the pair managed to see their team through to Day 3 without losing another scalp. They will now look to make the most use of the batting-friendly conditions early on Day 3.

End of yet another fascinating day of Test cricket here at the Bay Oval! Two days have now just breezed past in this Test match and everyone watching inside the stadium and elsewhere have had their money's worth up until now. Both New Zealand and England have gone toe-to-toe on Day 2 but in the end, the visitors will be happier of the two teams going into the moving day as they lead by 98 runs with 8 wickets in hand and better batting conditions to come early on Day 3.

Dangerous leave from Ollie Pope but he does manage to get far enough outside the crease to avoid being given out. This is on a good length around off and just angling in. Ollie Pope comes forward and then shoulders arms expecting an outswinger but the ball flicks the pad and there is an appeal from the hosts. It is quickly turned down though.

FOUR! Slapped away! Good length outside off, Stuart Broad sees the width and goes after it. Broad thumps it over the vacant cover region for a boundary.

Another short ball, aimed at the body, Broad hops and is able to keep it down on the off side.

Halt! Stuart Broad has been rattled on the helmet and the physio comes out for the mandatory concussion assessment. He isn't happy with the new helmet and wants another one to be brought on. Thumbs up from Broad and the play will resume now.

Right on the money! Tim Southee goes for the bumper now and gets it spot on as he bowls it over middle and off and the ball just climbs up at an awkward height. Stuart Broad hops and tries to fend it away butn instead he takes a blow on the helmet. Hope he is fine.

FOUR BYES! Tim Southee comes from around the wicket and tries to angle in a full one at the toes but spills it well down the leg side. Tom Blundell puts in a big dive to his right but fails to get to it and the ball rolls away into the fence.

Oh my, that is a huge blunder from the Kiwis! Scott Kuggeleijn bangs it in short and over the stumps, Stuart Broad advances and takes on the pull shot. Broad only manages to sky it around the silly point region and the bowler and keeper both run toward it. In the end, both Kuggeleijn and Tom Blundell stop in their tracks and are left watching each other as the ball lands in the middle. A huge reprieve for Broad and he also gets a single.

OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! A bit of a nothing shot and Zak Crawley has thrown away a good start here. Scott Kuggeleijn just bangs this one on a hard length over the off stump and the ball keeps a shade low. Crawley stays on the back foot and there's no foot movement at all. Crawley plays a lazy pull shot and gets a faint toe-end of the bat. Tom Blundell takes an easy catch behind the sticks and Kuggeleijn strikes in his first over. England now lead by 87 runs.

Fuller and around middle, Pope steps out and works it leg side for a single.

Just a bit too high probably! Tim Southee bowls this on a length and around the pads, looking for the magic ball. Southee does get it to swing away and Zak Crawley gets wrapped high on the pads as he looks to flick. There is a loud appeal for lbw but the umpire shakes his head.
