That concludes the proceedings for this match. On Saturday, 14th May, Kolkata will be facing Hyderabad at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT) in yet another crucial game of this season. You can join us in advance for the build-up. Until then, it's goodbye and cheers!

Jonny Bairstow is given the Player of the Match award for his 66 off 29 balls. Says that it was one of those days when it came off. Regarding taking on Josh Hazlewood, Jonny replies that there are many quality bowlers in the Indian T20 League, and he just tried to get Josh off his length and it paid off. On him batting at different positions for his national team and in this League, Bairstow says that it's completely different to represent England and to play for Punjab but the stats suggest that he enjoys opening the batting.

Mayank Agarwal, the captain of Punjab, says that they were brilliant with the bat and calls the batting efforts of Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone amazing. Adds that they have not changed their style a lot and it's important to assess the conditions and adapt accordingly. Tells that they cannot be too defensive with the ball as the boundaries are not long enough to contain the batters and you need to be aggressive with the ball. Feels that two points are more crucial for the team and as long as the job is getting done, he is fine batting in the middle order. Regarding Arshdeep Singh, Mayank calls him a very energetic guy who is very confident and enjoys his cricket.

Liam Livingstone (70 off 42 balls) comes up for a chat! The Englishman smiles and says that he has a tight calf and the taping was just a precaution. Mentions that this is how they want to play their cricket. Credits Jonny Bairstow for setting the tone and informs that he was just assessing the condition and knocking it around the corner before going for the big hits. Feels that they were 10-15 runs short and gives all the credit to their bowlers. States that they put the opposition under pressure from the beginning. Regarding his personal form, Liam replies that it's been a different role and he has tried to contribute in every way possible. Further says that he is seeing the ball well and it's nice to score a few runs. Also adds that he prides himself on the ability to bat at different positions and he is ready to bat wherever his captain and the coach want him to.

Faf du Plessis, the skipper of Bangalore, says that it was a good score and praises the batting of Jonny Bairstow who put pressure on the Bangalore bowlers. Feels that 200 was a par score on this pitch. Mentions that they lost wickets in a cluster and that didn't help them. On Virat Kohli finding different ways to get out, du Plessis replies that Virat is seeing the lighter side of his dismissals and Faf feels that it's all about how you stay positive and motivated. He is pleased with the way Virat Kohli is handling everything and hopes that a big score is around the corner. Shares that they have a little bit of break and they will try to forget this loss and put all their energy into the next game which will be a must-win for them. Adds that one more net session won't make you a great player and it's all about a strong mindset. Feels they are a very good team but this evening they didn't do the execution part right.

Stay tuned for the interviews...

This victory for Punjab was set up by the power duo from England - Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone. The former put on a show in the Powerplay and the latter navigated through the middle overs and provided Punjab with a strong finish. The overall bowling was decent and Kagiso Rabada stood out with a 3-fer. Rishi Dhawan and Rahul Chahar also did an impressive job.

It was a daunting task for Bangalore in the chase, and the start from them was bright and breezy. Virat Kohli looked in fine form, but his stay was too short. Three wickets fell in quick succession for Bangalore, and soon all the momentum got sucked away from their corner. Maxwell and Patidar threatened for a short while, but they both departed in the space of three balls and things unravelled quickly after that. A big defeat at this stage would have an adverse effect on Bangalore's NRR.

The victory was needed, the victory is achieved, and Punjab's campaign this season stays afloat! It was a clinical bowling show from them despite being put under pressure by Glenn Maxwell and Rajat Patidar for a brief period. Punjab will be delighted with this success as it can boost their morale.

Commentary

We are back for Bangalore's reply! The players are out in the middle. Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli are the openers for Bangalore. Just like Bangalore, Punjab will also start with a spinner. Harpreet Brar is all set! Let's go...

... THE CHASE...

Right then, the target is 210, a massive one but the wicket is a batting beauty. Bangalore have the firepower to scale down the target but they need to start well in the Powerplay. In the reverse fixture, Punjab chased down a target of 206 in a thriller. Can Bangalore take revenge? Stay tuned to find out...

It's a belter of a pitch and bowling is not easy, especially with the new ball if you don't find any movement. While everyone else went for runs, Wanindu Hasaranga gave away just 15 runs and picked up two crucial wickets in his spell of four overs. Harshal Patel also bowled well in the death, claimed four wickets overall and made sure they end on a high.

Punjab lost their momentum in the middle overs as wickets started to fall. Bairstow too fell after his 66 off 29 balls and suddenly Punjab were struggling to score freely. Mayank Agarwal and Liam Livingstone combined to steady the innings and they did brilliantly to get things back on track. Punjab continued to lose wickets but Liam made sure that they crossed the 200-run mark with his whirlwind knock.

Punjab started like a train on fire, with Jonny Bairstow firing on all cylinders. He took Josh Hazelwood to the cleaners in the second over itself and set the tone. Shikhar Dhawan didn't look his usual self but partnered with Jonny well for the opening partnership. Punjab raced away to 83 runs in the Powerplay - the best by any team in this edition, and laid a strong platform for a score above 200. Bangalore though bounced back through their spinners, and Wanindu Hasaranga was at the centre of that turnaround. That said, he was the only one to restrict the flow of runs as the rest went for aplenty.

What an exceptional last over from Harshal Patel! Just 4 runs and Bangalore bagged three wickets in it. Still, Punjab have managed to post a big total on the board.

OUT! Run out on the last ball! Patel serves a low full toss on middle, Rahul Chahar forces it down to long on and scampers back for the second run. Glenn Maxwell attacks the ball in the deep and sends a flat throw to the keeper. Dinesh Karthik breaks the stumps and finds Rahul Chahar short of the crease. The third umpire confirms the same. Punjab end on 209/9!

19.51lb

Back of a length, around leg and slower in pace, Rabada turns to pull but misses. It goes off his body to short third man and they steal a leg bye.

Kagiso Rabada walks out.

19.4W

OUT! Dhawan holes out! Glenn Maxwell makes no mistake this time near the fence. Fuller in length and wide outside off, Rishi tries to dispatch it over long on but doesn't get the desired distance. Wickets continue to tumble in the final over.

Harshal Patel pulls out as Rishi Dhawan was walking across the stumps.

19.31

Very full and on off, Chahar clears his front leg and forces it down to long off for a run.

Rahul Chahar is the new batter in!

19.2W

OUT! Caught! Liam Livingstone departs and takes a few biggies along with him. A full toss, on middle at 135 clicks, Liam Livingstone tries to spoon it behind the keeper but fails to get the right connection. It loops behind Dinesh Karthik who runs and secures the catch. This wicket will make a difference of at least 10-15 runs to the final total.

19.10

Dot ball. Gets the angle and line right. Full and wide outside off, skidding away, Liam Livingstone flashes at it and misses.

19.11wd

Wide! Harshal speeds in from 'round the wicket and delivers it full and way wide outside off. Liam leaves.

18.61

Back of a length, around off, Liam taps it down to backward point and keeps strike with himself for the final over. 24 from the over, Josh's 4 overs went for 64 runs.

18.56

SIX! Into the top tier! Short in length, around middle, Liam Livingstone gets inside the line and pummels it over fine leg for a biggie. 200 comes up!

18.42

Angles in a length ball on middle, Liam heaves it to deep square leg and races back for the second run.

18.34

FOUR! This is poor bowling from Josh Hazlewood. Short in length and wide outside off, Liam Livingstone stands back and hammers it over extra cover. First Jonny and now Liam, both the Englishmen have been very severe on the Aussie this evening.

18.31wd

Wide! Pace off from Josh but it's wide outside off, Liam swings his bat and misses.

18.26

SIX! The ball has disappeared! Josh Hazlewood serves it in the slot, on a length and around off, Liam Livingstone gives it the full whack of his bat and towers it over wide long on.

18.14

FOUR! Fifty for Liam Livingstone, off 35 balls. He needs to continue and take Punjab above 200. Back of a length, around middle and leg, Liam turns and powers it to fine leg for a boundary.

Change in bowling. Josh Hazlewood is back into the attack.

DROPPED AND SIX! Harshal Patel serves it on a good length and outside off, Rishi Dhawan smashes it down to long on. Glenn Maxwell tries to catch it over his head but ends up tipping it behind the fence for a biggie. The Aussie is disappointed with himself.

17.51

Fuller and outside off, driven down to long off for a single.

17.41

Fuller and on middle, Dhawan pushes it down to long on for a run.

Rishi Dhawan walks out. Meanwhile, Harshal Patel is down. The side of his shoe just skids across the grassy area and Harshal slips. That's a bad fall and hopefully, Patel has not damaged his ankle. He is back on his feet and returning to his bowling mark.

17.3W

OUT! Caught behind! Harshal Patel switches to over the wicket and delivers it short and wide outside off at 135.1 clicks. Harpreet Brar throws his bat at it but it takes the toe end and goes to the keeper. Dinesh Karthik collects and appeals. The bowler is not appealing much. The finger now goes up and Brar exits the scene after hitting a biggie. Also, this is the 200th catch for DK in T20s!

OUT! CAUGHT! A wicket immediately after the break, keeps happening every time. The break just disturbs the tempo. Shahbaz Ahmed has hunted down the danger man. Serves it full and around off, Jonny Bairstow advances down the track for a big shot but only manages to slice it off the outer edge to backward point. Two fielders converge and Mohammed Siraj takes the catch. End of a very entertaining knock from the Englishman and it's important here for Punjab to not lose the momentum.

Strategic Break! Punjab were scoring at a very quick rate but runs have slightly dropped down after the Powerplay. They have two power-hitters in the middle and 200 should be on their mind from hereon. Bangalore have done well to calm things down, through their spinners. Even though the luck has not favoured them, they will hope to get the current batters out of here quickly.

All in readiness here at the Brabourne Stadium. Bangalore have not won at this venue in this edition and would try to change that record. They are in a huddle at the moment. Now, the Bangalore players are taking the field and the crowd is cheering massively for them. Jonny Bairstow and Shikhar Dhawan are the openers for Punjab. As has been the case of late, Faf du Plessis is starting with the spin of Glenn Maxwell. Here we go...

A quick chat with Dinesh Karthik. The wicketkeeper batter calls it an important game for both teams. Shares that before the start of the season, he and the coach worked out what's required from him this season. Mentions that they have tried to do things differently and avoided getting predictable. States that the feeling is very good when you contribute to the team. Adds that he has a certain goal in his mind that he is trying to achieve.

Right then, Bangalore have retained their last XI and that shows the kind of confidence they have now. For Punjab, it's a must-win, so they will have to bat really well as this is a high-scoring ground. It seems that Mayank Agarwal will continue to bat in the middle order although Sunil Gavaskar (on air) was of the opinion that he is best-suited for opening the innings.

Mayank Agarwal, the skipper of Punjab, opines that it's not a bad toss to lose. Feels that it's an opportunity to put a good total on the board and defend it. Informs that Harpreet Brar is in for Sandeep Sharma as a left-arm spinner against Bangalore is a good match-up. Mentions that they have been playing good cricket but it's been a bit on-and-off.

Faf du Plessis, the captain of Bangalore, says that they want to bowl as the trend suggests that the wickets are getting better. Also adds that one side of the ground is a bit short and that's a factor as well. Informs that they are going in with the same team. Feels that they are improving with every game and in the last game, they played an all-round game, and it's a good sign. Tells that the pitch is good, but he is unsure how it will play initially and that's why he wants his bowlers to make the first use of it.

Punjab (Playing XI) - Jonny Bairstow, Shikhar Dhawan, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Mayank Agarwal (C), Jitesh Sharma (WK), Liam Livingstone, Rishi Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada, Rahul Chahar, Arshdeep Singh, Harpreet Brar (In for Sandeep Sharma).

Bangalore (Unchanged playing XI) - Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis (C), Rajat Patidar, Glenn Maxwell, Dinesh Karthik (WK), Mahipal Lomror, Shahbaz Ahmed, Wanindu Hasaranga, Harshal Patel, Josh Hazlewood, Mohammed Siraj.

TOSS - Bangalore have won the toss and they have elected to BOWL first!

Pitch report - The pitch is nice and hard, has a good covering of grass and there will be some swing with the new ball as the conditions are quite humid. Survive the initial period as a batter and it will become an absolute belter of a pitch. The bowlers will have to get it right as the square boundaries are on the shorter side.

Punjab are one of the members of the chasing pack, and a win for them will keep the hopes alive for all the aspirants, currently outside the top four. But for Punjab, just one win won't do as they've to win all their remaining games to remain on the list of the playoff hopefuls. That being said, Punjab haven't won back-to-back games this term, so winning three on the bounce looks tough, although not impossible. They will have a fond memory of edging out Bangalore in a thriller in the reverse fixture and doing the double over them will be on their agenda.

Bangalore are in a much better position on the table, but they know that even a minor hiccup at this stage of the tournament can harm them majorly. They occupy the fourth spot currently and have a chasing pack breathing down their neck. A win this evening will open up a significant gap, and Bangalore will be eager to gain that breathing space.

Welcome, everyone! We're here for an important match of this season, and it involves Bangalore and Punjab. The relevance of this game could be different for these teams, but their sole aim is to earn the elusive ticket to the playoffs. Expect them to come out all guns blazing in this crunch encounter.

... MATCH DAY ...
