Right then, two down, and one more to go. It has been a topsy-turvy tour so far with Australia winning the T20I series 2-1 and then Sri Lanka making a strong comeback to clinch the ODI series 3-2. But now it's time for the ultimate test as the two sides gear up for a two-match Test series starting on the 29th of June. The first Test will be played in Galle and play will begin at 10 am IST (4.30 am GMT) but our build-up will begin much sooner. Do join us then. Till then, take care and goodbye!

Dasun Shanaka then goes on to pick up the series trophy and his team members join him on the podium to celebrate. As the trophy is lifted, the crowd can be heard chanting 'Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka,' quite vociferously.

Dasun Shanaka, captain of Sri Lanka says, that it is disappointing to have lost the match but they need to keep pushing themselves and the crowd has been brilliant. Adds that they took the momentum from the last T20I game into the ODI series and almost won the first ODI but were able to get on a roll after that. Mentions that he is happy with the efforts of his players, especially Kusal Mendis and is happy to see him back in form and then goes on to thank a few more players for their efforts. Adds that the crowd deserves a lot of applause because they always believed in the team and then goes on to applaud the Australian team, the staff, and also the groundsmen.

The Australian skipper, Aaron Finch is down for a quick chat. He says that the series was hard-fought, but he credits Sri Lanka for the way they played and adds that Sri Lanka deserved to win. Mentions that most of their players got the starts but they were not able to put big partnerships. They did get partnerships of 40 and 50 runs but they are not enough. Further adds that going forward they need to maximize the middle overs. But he is pleased with how the team performed in this final ODI. Concludes by thanking all the fans, and says they have been amazing.

Kusal Mendis (249 runs in 5 matches) is the PLAYER OF THE SERIES for scoring the most runs in the series! He says that he is happy to have performed for the team and is happy that they were able to win the series. Adds that it is an important series victory especially given the World Cup coming up next year. Ends by saying that his role in the team is quite clear.

Chamika Karunaratne (75 runs off 75 balls) is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his valiant effort even though he ended on the losing side. This is something we don't see that often in cricket but such was the importance of his innings in this game. Karunaratne joins Roshan Abeysinghe for a chat. He says that he is very happy after this knock only because he has not been performing with the bat but he always believed in himself and he knew today was his day. Adds that he wanted to only rotate the strike, and keep batting till the end, they wanted to get 200 on board and he further adds that Pramod Madushan supported him really well from the other end. Concludes by thanking all the fans for their support and also thanking the Australian team to tour Sri Lanka in such difficult times.

The presentation ceremony...

Earlier in the game, after opting to bat first, Sri Lanka were never ever allowed to get off the blocks and the Australian bowlers just kept on picking wickets at regular intervals. Josh Hazlewood was brilliant at the top of the order as usual and Matthew Kuhnemann too bowled really well. With Sri Lanka on course of being bundled out for less than 100, Chamika Karunaratne took on the mantle and put on a brilliant display with the bat to score 75 runs and he was well-supported by debutant Pramod Madushan. The hosts did get past 150 but with the depth, Australia have in their batting lineup, they were able to get rid of early batting woes to go on and win the match.

Sri Lanka had a modest total on the board but were able to make a match out of it and at one point, they were even in control of the game. After starting with pace, Dasun Shanaka brought in spinners from both ends, and Maheesh Theekshana along with Dunith Wellalage bowled in tandem and never let the Aussies have an easy time. In the middle overs though, the other spinners weren't just able to pick up wickets even though the required rate was kept in check. Dunith Wellalage came back in to pick up two more wickets but in the end, Sri Lanka just didn't have enough runs on the board and were handed a comprehensive defeat.

Australia needed just 161 runs to win, a brilliant opportunity for them to end a disappointing ODI series on a high. The job however became all the more difficult when both openers fell inside the first three overs. After that, it kept on getting worse and at one point they were 50/4. Then came a match-saving partnership worth 51 runs between Marnus Labuschagne and Alex Carey which got the visitors a bit ahead in the game. A couple of more wickets fell but Carey stayed at the crease and had brilliant support from Cameron Green at the other end. The pair made sure that they saw their side over the line safely.

It has been a hard-fought contest but it is Australia who have shown grit and determination to get over the line, thanks to a brilliant match-winning knock from Alex Carey. The five-match ODI series ends 3-2 in favor of Sri Lanka. Also, there is a huge chant of Australia from the crowd, showing their gratitude to the touring side. Aaron Finch is seen leading the response as he and his men take a round of the stadium soaking in the applause from the crowd in the R. Premadasa.

Commentary

We are back for the chase! David Warner and Aaron Finch will open the batting for Australia. Chamika Karunaratne will begin the proceedings with the ball. Let's go!

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Right then! Sri Lanka have posted a below-par total here, and they face an uphill task from here. The pitch is assisting the spinners, and we know dangerous their spin attack is. Can they do something special here? We will find out. Stay tuned for the second essay.

The full innings of Sri Lanka only belonged to one man out there, Chamika Karunaratne! If it was not for him, the hosts would have been bundled out for below a hundred. After losing the openers, and Dinesh Chandimal in quick succession, Charith Asalanka and Kusal Mendis did try to steady the ship. They put together just over 20 runs and were in the process of doing some damage work. But unfortunately, both were dismissed in the same over and it all went downhill for them from there on. From him beings 56 for 3 they fell to 85 for 8 within the next 10 overs. Most of the wickets for Sri Lanka were due to poor shot selections, and run outs. Post that, Chamika Karunaratne and Pramod Madushan stitched a partnership of 58 and guided Sri Lanka over 140. Chamika Karunaratne was the aggressor in that knock, he notched his maiden half-ton, while Pramod Madushan played the perfect role of the second fiddle. Chamika Karunaratne scored a total of 75 runs and took Sri Lanka to 160. He has given the bowlers something to bowl at now.

After being asked to bowl first, Australia started off really well. Josh Hazlewood made sure they got the early inroads and put Sri Lanka under the pump early in the innings. The other bowlers capitalized on the start and grabbed wickets at regular intervals. They took 8 wickets for 85 runs and put Sri Lanka under immense pressure. However, post that the 9th wicket partnership started to frustrate them. As result, Sri Lanka crossed the 140-mark. Nevertheless, it's still been an exhilarating bowling show from the visitors and they have a golden opportunity here to end the ODI series with a victory.

It's been an exemplary recovery from Sri Lanka! The way wickets were tumbling, a target of 100 was looking tough for the hosts. But they have done a fine job to reach the 160-mark and set a respectable total. All, thanks to Chamika Karunaratne. He has given Sri Lanka something to fight with. Australia though will be a tad disappointed giving away those runs towards the end. Still, they would be the happier side going into the break.

43.1W

OUT! TAKEN! Finally, Chamika Karunaratne mistimes one and it brings his end and also the end of the Sri Lankan innings. Pat Cummins digs it in short but takes the pace off the ball and angles it onto the body. Karunaratne tries to take it on and swings across the line. Karunaratne gets a top edge and the ball is skied around the leg gully region. The keeper Alex Carey calls for it early and settles under it nicely to take the catch. A brilliant, brilliant innings from Karunaratne comes to an end. Pat Cummins gets his second wicket and Sri Lanka have been bundled out for 160!

Pat Cummins is back on!

DRINKS! Well, at 85/8 Sri Lanka were reeling and seemed to be bundled out inside the 100-run mark but it has been a fighting stand between Chamika Karunaratne and debutant Pramod Madushan. Australia will be slightly disappointed but they still seem to have things under control and will look to finish off the innings at the earlieast. The question here is, can Sri Lanka somehow manage to get to 150 and give themselves an outside chance? We'll find out soon.

NOT OUT! Once more Chamika Karunaratne survives and yet another good decision by the umpire on field. Matthew Kuhnemann drifts this one full and around leg stump. Karunaratne looks to make a bit of room and drive but gets beaten in flight. The ball crashes into the pads and there is a huge appeal from the bowler. It is turned down but Finch reviews it again. No spike on UltraEdge and Ball Tracking shows that the ball didn't turn enough, just about clipping leg stump and the decision stays as the umpire's call.

Review! Australia have taken yet another review for an LBW decision against Chamika Karunaratne! No Bat involved, confirms UltraEdge. Ball Tracking indicates it is the umpire's call on wickets hitting! The on-field decision stands.

27.50

Floated up, on the pads, Karunaratne sweeps it to the right of the man at short fine leg.

Chamika Karunaratne looks to paddle sweep but misses and gets hit on the arm. Appeal for an LBW decision from the bowler and the keeper but it is not given. Aaron Finch decides to take the review though. The third umpire first checks the UltraEdge and finds that no bat is involved. Ball Tracking is then checked and the ball did straighten enough but height is the issue as the ball is going well over middle stump. NOT OUT!

We are ready for play! It is a sea of yellow in the stadium as most of the spectators have taken the initiative to show the touring side their gratitude for coming to their country in such difficult circumstances, a beautiful gesture from the fans. The umpires and the players are out in the middle with Danushka Gunathilaka and Pathum Nissanka all set to open the innings for Sri Lanka. Josh Hazlewood has the new ball in hand and is raring to go. Let's play...

Aaron Finch the captain of Australia says they were looking to bat first as well, but they want to improve on their chasing and have an opportunity to do it in this final game. Informs that Josh Inglis makes his debut and he comes in for Travis Head.

Dasun Shanaka the skipper of Sri Lanka says that they will have a bat first. Adds that the wicket looks decent and the ball will spin in the evening. Mentions that in different games they had different match-winners which is good and he is happy with the team. Informs that they have made three changes to the side.

Russel Arnold is pitchside. He says that the pitch is a fresh one and it is very dry with a lot of cracks around. Mentions that spinners will come into play but batters can still score runs if they are patient. Adds that the captain winning the toss will look to bat first for sure.

Australia (Playing XI) - Aaron Finch (C), David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Josh Inglis (On ODI debut) (In for Travis Head), Marnus Labuschagne, Alex Carey (WK), Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green, Pat Cummins, Matthew Kuhnemann, Josh Hazlewood.

TOSS - Sri Lanka have won the toss and they have elected to BAT first.

The weather in Colombo has remained kind thus far, and let’s hope the rain stays away from this one as well. Sri Lanka have already clinched the series and hence this is kind of a dead rubber, but we can still expect a cracker of a contest. Stay tuned for the toss and other updates.

Sri Lanka were under the pump while defending a target of 258. But their army of spinners displayed their magic and demolished Australia’s batting lineup. Eventually, the game did go down the wire and Dasun Shanaka held his nerve and guided his side home. We can expect Sri Lanka to make a few changes since they have already secured the ODI series.
