The spinners are on top! Sri Lanka came out to bat at the beginning of Day 5. They faced three overs and declared just after Lasith Embuldeniya got bowled off Holder. Without any second thought, it was all spin for the hosts. Lasith and Mendis started from each end, but this time they were unable to cause any real threat. Mendis struck early on to get rid of the opposition skipper, Kraigg Brathwaite. But since then, they probed good lines and lengths but the batsmen were on top of it. But luckily for the hosts, Embuldeniya worked his magic and struck in the final over before Lunch to change the trajectory of the game.

West Indies began their day with the ball, but Holder scalped a wicket in the third over of the day and the hosts declared after that. 297 is what the visitors have to chase down in three sessions. Kraigg Brathwaite and Jermaine Blackwood came out with the bat, but the former slipped out early on. Then came a solid stand between Bonner and Blackwood, there was some miscommunication between the two, but they eluded the danger of getting run-out. But just as everything looked good for the visitors, Blackwood lost his track and gave away his wicket.

A breakthrough right at the stroke of Lunch changes everything. Sri Lankan camp will be confident going into the break and would look to tighten the nails in the next session. The visitors did really well, to recover from an early breakthrough, but to put salt on it, Blackwood got out just at the brink of Lunch.

PITCH REPORT - HD Ackerman is down for the pitch report. He adds that the pitch looks quite good and since the pacers haven't bowled a lot, the footmarks are not that pronounced. Says that he wouldn't be surprised if Sri Lanka decide to bat a bit more this morning and then use the heavy roller once they declare or get bowled out.

Dhananjaya de Silva is down for a chat. He says this knock is maybe his best one. Adds that they wanted to be in the safe zone so he and Embuldeniya wanted to play out as many overs as possible. Says that the wicket is quite good to bat on but there is a bit of help for the spinners. Jokes that the banter with Joshu Da Silva is friendly banter and it is all fun. Mentions that he feels that Test cricket is the ideal format for him and he enjoys that. Finishes by saying that he enjoys batting under pressure.

Dhananjaya de Silva has put his team right on top of the game. He came in when the middle order was under pressure but he has carried through and has scored a sublime ton. The lead is closing in on the 300-run mark and West Indies would have to bat out of their skins if they want to win this. They can still play for a draw though as the pitch is still quite decent to bat on. I will be interesting to see when Sri Lanka decide to declare their innings here.

Despite losing a lot of overs to the rain, the game has progressed nicely and all the results are still possible. But with that being said, it is Sri Lanka, who hold the advantage and would fancy their chances to win this Test. What will happen? Let us find out together.

Right then! Another day of Test cricket has just flown by and even though three results are still possible, it is highly unlikely that the visitors can win it from here. Sri Lanka have a big lead of 279 runs. A draw will seal the series and valuable points on the WTC table for them. West Indies will need a miracle to get those important points. An under-par showing is what we can label the Windies bowling display as. Coming into Day 4, the visitors must have been the happier team but right from the off, their spinners were put under pressure. Roston Chase did provide them with a couple of big breakthroughs on either side of Lunch but the visitors failed to build on it. At the end of the second session, one felt like West Indies were crawling back into the match as their spinners got the hosts down to just 2 wickets remaining. The last session though proved to be the difference-maker as the lack of intent from the visitors was there to see and de Silva along with Embuldeniya, the number 10 batter piled on the misery. Veerasammy Permaul seemed to be the only bowler who bowled his heart out and deservingly picked up three wickets. Needing to win the Test match and being in a good position to do so, the visitors have let the match slip and now will have to play exceedingly well to save the match.

Sri Lanka started off Day 4, reeling at 46 for 2 and no one expected them to bat for the entirety of Day 4. But one needs to give credit where credit is due and the hosts have deserved to be on top of proceedings because their batters have shown grit and determination. Pathum Nissanka and Charith Asalanka were positive from the get-go and made a fast start before the latter got out. Nissanka reached a half-century but on the stroke of Lunch, he too was dismissed. After some wickets early in the second session, Dhananjaya de Silva took matters into his own hands and put on a show along with the tailenders, first with Ramesh Mendis, he stitched a 51-run stand and then an unreal and unbeaten stand of 107-runs with Lasith Embuldeniya. De Silva brought up a classy century and then surpassed 150 as well. Embuldeniya too impressed highly with the bat and the hosts stretched their lead to 279 runs.

Yet another fascinating day of Test cricket comes to an end and the pendulum truly swung both ways today. However, at the end of Day 4, it's the hosts who seem to be firmly in control of this Test match. The pitch did not help the spinners much and instead kept on getting better as the day progressed, this meant that the bowlers toiled hard and batters enjoyed batting once they got set.

What a session for the visitors! The spinners spun a web around the batters and scalped three wickets in this session to get their side back in the hunt. Roach picked a wicket early into the second session. Then, a partnership was built in the middle, and it looked as if the hosts will take the game away with a good lead, but just before the new ball was available, Brathwaite struck to get rid of Mendis and broke a crucial stand. Then it was all about the second new ball, Permaul rolled his fingers really well and picked up two wickets in no time and took his side ahead in the game.

This session was anchored by Dhananjaya de Silva! After losing a wicket at the stroke of Lunch, Sri Lanka needed the new pair to get a handy partnership which should be big enough to get them to a big lead, but Chandimal fell pretty early on to Chase. Mathews did not come out to bat, as he has been nursing his calf injury, which got Mendis into the middle. He stitched an important stand along with de Silva of 51 runs but slipped out in the final half-hour of the session. Lakmal joined de Silva later and hung around for a while but got rapped plumb in front of the stumps. Finally, Mathews came in limping, he was not at his best, but his team needed him. He went back only on a single, he was expected to score heavily but that wasn’t the case.

Yet another great session in this Test match and it is nicely poised. The hosts have extended their lead to 189 runs. West Indies picked up three wickets in this session and have reached the tail-end of the batting order.

Right then. Sri Lanka will hope to come back and bat for as long as they could and swell the lead. We have a lot of time on our hands, even after a few sessions lost due to rain in this second Test. West Indies will be looking to pick wickets at regular intervals to put the hosts in a spot of bother. Another exciting session awaits. West Indies could not put a lid on the run flow. It was Permaul who got the only wicket of the session early on, as he got rid of Asalanka. But after that, the bowlers probed good lines and lengths but were unable to cause any trouble to the batters. The West Indies skipper, Brathwaite, tried out various combinations, earlier with the spinners and later he introduced a pacer for the first time in this innings for the 47th over. But there was no change to the trajectory until the last over of the session, when Chase put his hand up and broke the partnership which was worrying the visitors.

Nissanka kept his nerves calm and made sure to take his side to safer shores. The overnight batters came back and fared really well. But Asalanka gave a dolly to short leg and was dismissed. Since then, the pair of de Silva and Nissanka stitched a crucial partnership to swell their lead. But Nissanka well right before Lunch and Sri Lanka go back with a lead of 102 runs.

It was a good session of cricket. Both the teams gave it their all. A wicket for the West Indies at the stroke of Lunch changes the trajectory of the game. The hosts lost a wicket early on and later a wicket to ruin their Lunch break, as they lost Nissanka right at the end. West Indies will have the momentum on their side.

PITCH REPORT - Farveez Maharoof says that the pitch is rough and the spinners will get plenty of assistance. Aamir Sohail joins him and says that the batters should make adjustments to their shoulder alignment.

Even though West Indies could not make the most of their advantage. Their batters fought till the end to get a decent lead on them. When they came back to the field, the pack was very lively which caused some trouble for the opposition. West Indies scalped two wickets through run-outs and would come back on the field with the same intent. If West Indies are able to pick a couple of wickets in the opening session, will put them in a comfortable position. Another great day of Test cricket awaits.

The Sri Lankan spinners did their magic and helped their side stage a comeback in the game. Ramesh Mendis was the star with the ball, as he bagged a six-wicket haul. He was supported well by Lasith and Praveen from the other end who picked two scalps each to make sure the visitors don’t swell their lead over 49 runs. Although, their batters started off shakily, with a couple of run outs that would hurt them quite a bit. They lost their skipper, Karunaratne and soon after Fernando slipped out as well. The hosts now need their batters to calm their nerves and bat for as long as they could. A lead of 150 runs will be enough to trouble the visitors, as this pitch gets trickier as the game moves by.

That is it from Day 3 of the second Test between Sri Lanka and West Indies. The rain gods have stayed away and we were able to witness another intriguing day of Test cricket. Sri Lanka were in a dominating position at the halfway mark on Day 3 but they leaked a few runs at the fag end of Windies' innings and conceded a lead of 49 runs. Their spinners were brilliant to bring them back into this Test, as at one point, it looked like West Indies were on course to get a huge first innings lead. However, when they came out to bat they looked a bit out of sorts as Dimuth Karunaratne ran himself out. Oshada Fernando and Pathum Nissanka tried to steady the ship but a miscommunication in the middle saw Fernando walking back to the hut. Charith Asalanka joined Nissanka and they both made sure that there was no further damage. These two overnight batters will look to bat long on Day 4 and take their team to safer shores.

West Indies would be happier of the two sides at the end of the day's play and would feel that they have their noses slightly ahead. However, they have to bat last on this wicket and a target of anywhere around 150 isn't going to be easy for West Indies. They were not able to capitalize on the start that they got and lost wickets in clusters in the second session. Kyle Mayers played a handy innings at the end and the visitors managed to get a lead of 49 runs. The Windies came out with intent as they were top-notch in the field. The spinners kept things tight and it resulted in a couple of run outs which put them in the driver's seat. They would look to strike early on Day 4 and make sure that the Lankans do not run away with the lead.

Day 3 has been a treat to watch as the game has moved ahead at a rapid pace. The hosts find themselves in a slight spot of bother and they have only themselves to blame. Their bowlers have fared reasonably well on the moving day but it is their batters who have let them down a bit in the third session.
