Pitch report - The surface has proved to be challenging for batting, with a bit of grass and some bare areas. We have seen some variable bounce as well.

Roddy Estwick, the assistant coach of West Indies, comes up for a chat. He says that their bowling lost the plot a bit on Day 3 and he would rate it 6.5 out of 10. Praises Kemar Roach for his bowling and adds that he has lost some pace but gained in terms of accuracy. Mentions that in the batting department, they need to form more partnerships and focus on spending time in the middle. Regarding the debutant Gudakesh Motie, Roddy sounds very happy with his performance and shares that the target they gave him was to keep the scoring rate under 3 and he feels that Motie will gain from this experience.

Bangladesh are on the brink of yet another loss in Test cricket in recent times. They started on the wrong foot and remained behind the 8-ball throughout this game. A little bit of spark was shown on Day 3, but that's too little to turn the tide in their favour. They would wish for wickets in a heap this morning to send shivers in the West Indian camp like last evening, and if that happens, we could have a dramatic finish to this Test.

West Indies have played some excellent cricket over the last three days and earned the right to be in this position. Right then, three days of the first Test between West Indies and Bangladesh have gone by and they have provided ample excitement to cricket lovers. The hosts have bossed most of the match so far and are just 35 runs away from taking a 1-0 lead in the series. They should be able to do so early on Day 4 if nothing surprising happens. The play will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT) but our build-up will begin much sooner. Do join us then, take care and goodbye!

Kyle Mayers comes up for a quick chat. Says that to make the batters play every ball is the main thing for him. Adds that he looks to utilize the conditions and stick to accurate areas. Mentions that Bangladesh had a difficult first day but the pitch has got better since then for batting. Feels that it's all about staying patient on this surface. Further says that he and Kemar Roach go a long way back, and he calls him his role model. He praises Roach for always putting his best foot forward and wishes him 300 Test wickets soon. Tells that during that stand between Shakib and Nurul, they just wanted to stay patient.

Bangladesh did show a lot of fight on Day 3, especially with the bat as twin fifties from Shakib Al Hasan and Nurul Hasan saw them wipe off the deficit and even got them in the lead when at one point it seemed the visitors would lose by an innings. With just 83 runs to defend though, it was Khaled Ahmed who was sensational with the new ball and he picked up three wickets in his first couple of overs to just plant a seed of doubt in the mind of the opposition. Unfortunately for him, other bowlers haven't been able to trouble the Windies batters much and Bangladesh are heading towards defeat.

After a bit of toil in the field, West Indies made full use of the second new ball and Kemar Roach was the standout performer for the hosts. His five-wicket haul saw Bangladesh getting bundled out in the final session and that kept the lead to 83 runs. West Indies would have hoped to come out and play positively but that wasn't the case as they were soon reduced to 9 for 3. Since then, John Campbell and Jermaine Blackwood have put on a steady stand of 40 runs and the home team is now inching towards taking a 1-0 lead in the Test series.

Day 3 is known as the moving day in Test cricket and it has moved along at a brisk pace. A lot of action happened throughout the day but as the day comes to a conclusion, it is West Indies who are just 35 runs away from victory and they still have 7 wickets in hand.

The start of the final session on Day 3 has been delayed a bit. There was a slight drizzle as the players went into the Tea break and the square was quickly covered. The drizzle has stopped and the covers are off as well. The play should start in a few minutes time. Scratch that, the umpires are making their way back into the middle and so are the players. Shakib Al Hasan and Nurul Hasan are set to resume their stay at the crease. With the second new ball not far away, it will be interesting to see how the batters approach their innings. West Indies will be a bit disappointed with their bowling in the second session. The pitch has certainly eased out for the batters but with just one wicket needed to expose the opposition tail, they found it difficult to create opportunities. There have been a few edges and a couple of shouts for LBW but that has been it. The hosts will now look to shrug off the session gone by and get back into their strides after the break. The second new ball that is due in a few overs could be the key for West Indies. Can Bangladesh continue to score at a good rate without losing wickets? Session summary - 27 overs, 95 runs and no wickets lost! What a wonderful session this has been for Bangladesh with the bat. They looked to be down and out at the Lunch interval but an unbeaten stand of 101 runs between skipper Shakib Al Hasan and Nurul Hasan has just about kept them in the game. The pair scored at a good rate and after getting rid of the deficit, the duo has put the visitors ahead by 48 runs. Their job is not done yet as a slight lapse in concentration here and all the hard work will be undone. But for now, they can breathe a bit easy.

We are back for the post-Lunch session! It's now a test of survival for Shakib Al Hasan and his men. It remains to be seen as to for how long they can deny what looks to be inevitable. The umpires and the fielders are back on the field as Shakib Al Hasan and Nurul Hasan take guard. It will be Kemar Roach, the man who made meaningful inroads towards the end of the first session, to get things going with the ball after the break.

... DAY 3, SESSION 2 ...

Kemar Roach and Jayden Seales didn't quite start off in the manner they would have liked to but the introduction of Kyle Mayers into the attack paid dividends as he picked up a couple of wickets. Alzarri Joseph too was a bit on the shorter side and was ineffective but Roach made a strong comeback in his second spell of the day, sending back two more Bangladeshi batters to put his team right on top of proceedings. With the game firmly in West Indies' corner and Bangladesh having it all to do, it remains to be seen as to how Shakib Al Hasan approaches his innings. Bangladesh came into Day 3 trailing by 112 runs and Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mahmudul Hasan Joy did start off well negotiating the Windies pacers. After that, a couple of wickets fell in quick succession and Litton Das walked in and started playing his shots. This helped Bangladesh to take a big chunk out of the deficit but it also provided opportunities for the hosts to grab some wickets. The visitors then lost two more wickets and are now left struggling with just 4 wickets in hand and trailing by 47 runs. The skipper, Shakib Al Hasan is the only one who can now help his side avoid an innings defeat but he will require ample support from Nurul Hasan from the other end in order to do so.

Session summary - 29 overs, 65 runs and 4 wickets! It has been yet another highly productive session for West Indies in the field. They have managed to pick up as many as four wickets whilst keeping their lead intact which currently stands at 47 runs. With just a couple of more recognized batters left at the crease for Bangladesh, the hosts will look to come back fresh after the Lunch interval and wrap up the innings at the earliest. If they manage to do so, the game could finish in the second session itself.

They still trail by 53 runs and have only four wickets in the bank.

Just when Bangladesh looked to be on a roll, a wicket goes down. You cannot waft at a wide delivery in the name of positive batting. This is poor from Bangladesh and Litton.

Kyle Mayers' clever variations are doing the job for West Indies. His inswinger lands on a length around off, Mominul Haque tries to flick but his bat gets stuck a bit behind the front pad and he gets pinged in front. The appeal is made, and the umpire thinks for a while before lifting his finger. Mominul Haque has a word with his partner and takes the DRS but the Ball Tracking shows that it's clipping the leg stump. Umpire's call and Bangladesh lose their fourth wicket. We are moments away from the start of the play on Day 3! The weather is a bit cloudy and that might offer the pacers a bit of help early on but as we type, the sun is just starting to peek through the clouds. The umpires are out in the middle and so are the West Indies players. Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mahmudul Hasan Joy are all set to resume their stay at the crease. Kemar Roach will start proceedings with the ball and is raring to go.

PITCH REPORT - Samuel Badree and Sir Curtly Ambrose are pitch side. Badree says that it continues to be a challenging surface for the batters. Sir Curtly says that indeed it will be a challenging day and the grass around the wicket is providing variable bounce and the pacers can use that. Badree adds that spinners might come into play today and Gudakesh Motie might be used more.

What do Bangladesh need on Day 3? As said earlier, they need to bat and bat and bat for as long as possible. To wipe off the deficit will be on top of their agenda and they cannot afford to lose many wickets while doing so. With Mushfiqur Rahim missing, someone like Mominul Haque and Shakib Al Hasan will have to take control of the batting department and provide solidity. It is going to be a litmus test for them this morning, and surviving the first session will be the key. Can they do it with minimum casualty? We will find out soon.

West Indies have done most things right in this Test match, right from winning the toss. Their bowlers have utilized the conditions way better than the touring team and playing in their own backyard has certainly served as an advantage. The hosts would be aiming to repeat their bowling show of the first day and make early inroads this morning. Can Roach and company dominate proceedings yet again?

Welcome back, folks. The third day of this Test match is upon us and clearly, it's West Indies who hold all the aces and can call the shots. The great work done by their bowlers on the first day has had a lasting impact and Bangladesh have not recovered since then. The tourists did show some spark with the ball last evening but that's too little to change the landscape of this game. ... DAY 3, SESSION 1 ...

Right then, two days have flown by in this Test match and there are still three days left but at the moment it doesn't look like the game will stretch that long. Day 3 is known as the moving day and if West Indies do get early wickets then the day could move along at a rapid pace and even prove to be the last day of the game. It has been an exciting contest between bat and ball so far and the same should continue on Day 3. Action will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT) but our build-up will begin much sooner. Mehidy Hasan is down for a quick chat. He says that he was disappointed with his first couple of spells as he didn't bowl in the correct areas. Shares that he then mentally prepared himself and got some help from the spinners not playing this game and was able to pick up wickets. Mentions that his plan was to pile on the dot balls which would put pressure on the batters. Further says that at first, he tried too hard to get wickets but changed his game plan later on. Adds that it was an opportunity for him after being sent at one down but unfortunately it didn't come off and he will try harder next time. Reckons that they have quality batters and the key is to bat the whole of Day 3.

Bangladesh have their work cut out with the bat and even after some really excellent bowling, it is the poor showing with the bat in the first innings that is costing them dearly here. After toiling hard, their bowlers were able to make use of the second new ball and Mehidy Hasan ended up with four wickets. In their second innings, Bangladesh trailed by 162 runs but it was a pretty breezy start from their openers, especially Tamim Iqbal who did get out after getting a start. Mehidy Hasan came in ahead of other top-order batters but the move didn't work. Since then, Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Najmul Hossain Shanto have done a decent job of standing their ground but it will require a lot more than just that if they are to have any chance of turning the match in their favour.

West Indies came into Day 2 with 8 wickets in hand and seemed to be going along nicely but as soon as the second new ball was taken, their middle order fell prey to some probing bowling by the opposition. A lead that looked to be going beyond 200 runs ended up being 162 runs which was still sizeable. On the bowling front, Alzarri Joseph has delivered for them after an uncharacteristic start from Kemar Roach and Jayden Seales in the second innings. They will now look to get some rest and come back to pick up early wickets on Day 3.

Another day of Test cricket is done and just like Day 1, West Indies seem to be in command of the match. 12 wickets fell on Day 1 and as many as 10 wickets have fallen on Day 2 which shows that the pitch still has a bit in it for the bowlers. Bangladesh currently trail by 112 runs and with 8 wickets in hand, it will take a big effort from their batters on Day 3 to first cut down the deficit entirely and then give their bowlers something to bowl at. A difficult task but we'll see how things play out on Saturday.
