India beat Zimbabwe by 5 wickets

Harare Sports Club, Harare

That's it then from this game and it is India who have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. There is however one more game left in the series and Zimbabwe will be looking to finish off with a win. The 3rd and final ODI will be played on Monday, 22nd August and will begin at 12.45 pm IST (7.15 am GMT) but our build-up will begin sooner. Do join us then. Till then, take care and goodbye!

KL Rahul, the Indian captain, says that they bat deep and it was good that a few batters got some time in the middle. Smiles and says that changing his batting order didn't work. Tells that it was important for him to take some confidence from this series but it didn't happen for him in this match. Adds that Zimbabwe have a few quality bowlers in their ranks and shares that he watched Zimbabwe's series against Bangladesh. Calls it a good challenge for their batters. Informs that it will be a rest day for them on Sunday. Thanks the spectators for turning up and supporting them.

Sanju Samson is the Player of the Match for his unbeaten 43 and three catches behind the stumps. Says that when you spend time in the middle, you feel really good. Adds that he is happy to take three catches but at the same time smiles and reminds us that he missed out on a couple of chances as well. Mentions that in this match their fast bowlers picked up the good areas fairly early and he loved his time behind the stumps.

Regis Chakabva, the captain of Zimbabwe, says that they had a really good fight on the field and is happy that they picked a few wickets. Regrets that there were not enough runs on the board. Admits that their batting lacks execution and hopes to improve. Praises his bowlers for coming out charging and hitting the good areas.

Stay tuned for the presentation...

There was no improvement shown by Zimbabwe in this game with the bat. They lost a crucial toss and their batting didn't perform to its true potential. There were plenty of avoidable shots played and the end result was 161 all out, 28 less than the first ODI. Unless and until this facet of their game puts in the hard yards, there is no hope for them, even in the last ODI. India, on the other hand, got the chance to give some exposure to their middle-order batters and achieved most of the things from this contest.

The approach from India in the chase was different compared to the first ODI. Their focus was more on scoring at a quick rate rather than being sedate and preserving the wickets. The move to use KL Rahul as an opener and give him some much-needed 'game time' didn't work as he departed cheaply. Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill though played sublime knocks and displayed their form once again. The rest of the work of closing the game was done with ease by the stand between Sanju Samson and Deepak Hooda, who got out with the victory in sight.

An easy win for India, yet again, but this time around, they spent a few wickets to reach the target. Unlike their batters, the Zimbabwean bowlers improved their show with the ball, showing good pace and bowling with a lot of heart. That said, the consistency factor was still missing, and this is something they will need to improve. Right then, 14 wins in a row for India now in ODIs, against Zimbabwe, and they've sealed the deal here.

Axar Patel comes out to bat with India needing 9 runs to win.

Sean Williams to roll his arms now.

Sikandar Raza is introduced into the attack now. 47 needed more.

Drinks break. India have lost four wickets in this chase but they are in full control. 65 needed more for them to take an unsurpassable lead in the series. Their approach with the bat is different from the first ODI. The Indian batters have looked to play more shots and score at a brisk rate. Sanju Samson walks in next and we expect him to bat with positive intent as well. Tanaka Chivanga is back on...

Time for the DRS. The batter in question is Deepak Hooda. It looks to be sliding down. Let's see. Nothing on the UltraEdge. The Ball Tracking shows that it's missing the leg stump.

Deepak Hooda is in next at number 5. 79 needed more.

Powerplay 2! The bowling team is now allowed to have a maximum of 4 players outside the inner ring till the 40th over but this game is not going to last till then. Here comes Brad Evans...

Luke Jongwe comes in as first change for Zimbabwe.

Ishan Kishan is the new man in.

Shubman Gill walks in at number 3.

Victor Nyauchi to take the other new ball.

Victor Nyauchi is certainly getting the ball to move around. Another inswinger shoots in with extra bounce and strikes the batter on the pads. No appeal as it's too high.

1.4 W 0

OUT! Given lbw! Victor Nyauchi has a wicket and he is all smiles. KL Rahul has a word with his partner and takes the referral. Looks more in hope. Coming to the delivery, it's on a length around off and shaping back in, Rahul shuffles across the stumps in an attempt to flick it on the leg side but misses. He is pinged on the front pad, they appeal and the umpire agrees. DRS time - The UltraEdge finds no bat and then the Ball Tracking shows that it's hitting the leg stump. KL departs cheaply, not a good comeback for him in his first outing with the bat.

0.1 0

A muted appeal, but only from the keeper. Back of a length, around off and angling in, Dhawan offers no shot and it breezes past his thigh pad and bat. Chakabva appeals but he is the only one doing so.

We are back for the chase! The umpires and the players are out in the middle. It will be Shikhar Dhawan joined by the skipper, KL Rahul at the top for India. Tanaka Chivanga will get proceedings underway with the ball for Zimbabwe.

... The Run Chase ...

Right then, India have a simple chase at hand again. The only thing that interests us is to find out who will open for them. Will the pair of Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill continue? Or are we going to see a different opening combination? Do join us in a short while to find out.

On being asked about coming on as the first change, Shardul Thakur replies that it's a bit of both, he looks at what lengths the opening bowlers bowled and if there's swing on offer or not and it also depends on the batter. Shares that early on the pitch was on the slower side and not being too full or too short was the key. Also adds that later on pitch quickened up and hence they tried to bowl bouncers. Mentions that he has a good skill set and it is just about polishing it in the net. Also says that when the other bowlers are doing good, it's just about hitting the right lengths.

The Indian bowling was once again exceptional. Their fast bowlers got favourable conditions to bowl again and left their mark. They didn't pick early wickets but always had the Zimbabwean batters on the back foot. Every bowler contributed and Shardul Thakur was the pick with a 3-wicket haul. Here he is, having a quick word...

No doubt, the conditions upfront were challenging but after surviving 8 overs or so without losing any wicket, expectations were high from Zimbabwe. But once the first wicket fell, it was a procession. Four wickets went down in a hurry and a little bit of rescue act was done by the pair of Sikandar Raza and Sean Williams. Both the experienced batters didn't last for long though and it was due to Ryan Burl's knock that the hosts crossed the 150-run mark.

Yet another poor batting show by Zimbabwe, poorer than the first ODI by 28 runs. No fight. No application. Nothing. A meek surrender once more. Losing the toss was a big blow to them but as an international team, you should be ready to do both, with better planning. Zimbabwe lacked planning and execution and got bundled out for a paltry total.

DRS time.

Tanaka Chivanga is the last batter for Zimbabwe.

Victor Nyauchi is the number 10 batter for Zimbabwe.

Spin from both ends again. Axar Patel is back on to partner Kuldeep. 0 for 15 in his first 5 overs.

Kuldeep Yadav is back on. 1 for 26 in his 5 overs so far.

Brad Evans is the new batter. He had a good outing with the willow in the last game, can he do it again?

Drinks break! It has been all India so far but there were a couple of partnerships brewing in the middle. First, it was Raza and Williams who looked to steady the ship a bit and then Williams tried to do the same with Ryan Burl but Sean too got out. There are still 20 overs to go but India will be looking to wrap this up in the next 10 overs or so. Can Zimbabwe somehow manage to get close to the 200-run mark?

Mohammed Siraj (6-2-8-1) is back on.

Luke Jongwe is the next man in.

Deepak Hooda to roll his arm now.

Ryan Burl is in at number 7.

Here comes Kuldeep Yadav.

Drinks break. It's the action replay of the first ODI. Zimbabwe are four down in a hurry and going has been really tough for them. At the start, their openers did manage to survive more than 8 overs but it was never convincing. Once the first wicket fell, it was a procession which has stopped for now courtesy of the stand between Sean Williams and Sikandar Raza. These two are the most experienced batters for the hosts and needless to say, their partnership could be the difference between a good score and a paltry one. Time for some spin as Axar Patel comes into the attack. A slip in place...

Sean Williams has to come out now with the top four back in the pavilion in a hurry.

Sikandar Raza is the new batter. He is the one in the form of his life. Can he do something here? Also, Prasidh Krishna to have another go.

Regis Chakabva walks in next, at number 4.

Powerplay 2! The fielding side can now have up to 4 players outside the 30-yard circle till the 40th over. Mohammed Siraj is continuing, perhaps for one more over.

Wesley Madhevere is in at number 3.

Shardul Thakur comes into the attack. Two slips in place.

Prasidh Krishna to steam in with the second new ball.

A gully in place.

Time to play the game. The Indian team gets in a huddle before taking the field. Innocent Kaia has a new opening partner in Takudzwanashe Kaitano as they walk out. Mohammed Siraj to begin with the first new ball. Three slips in place. Here we go...

Shubman Gill comes up for a quick interview. He says that it's all about getting the experience in the middle and to be able to spend time in the middle is important. Mentions that the wickets in West Indies were brilliant on the previous tour. On batting alongside Shikhar Dhawan, Gill replies that he is a chill guy to bat with and he is someone with whom everyone gels quite well. Shares that his plan in white-ball cricket is to play minimum dot balls and rotate the strike as that helps him to keep a good strike rate.

Regis Chakabva, the skipper of Zimbabwe, looks visibly disappointed to lose the toss. He says that it looks like a good wicket and they are looking forward to posting a good total on the board. Mentions that the boys are talking a lot about the process and will try to give their best effort. Feels that it's important to pick early wickets and restrict the opponents. Informs about a couple of changes in their XI - Takudzwanashe Kaitano and Tanaka Chivanga come in for Tadiwanashe Marumani and Richard Ngarava.

KL Rahul, the Indian skipper, says that the pitch looks a bit better, harder than the last game and obviously while bowling first, there is a bit in the air. Hopes to pick a few quick wickets. Adds that they bowled very well in the previous game but Zimbabwe also batted well in the latter half when the ball got old. Wants his bowlers to become more aggressive and clinical. Informs that Deepak Chahar misses out and Shardul Thakur comes in.

Zimbabwe (Playing XI) - Takudzwanashe Kaitano (In for Tadiwanashe Marumani), Innocent Kaia, Sean Williams, Wesley Madhevere, Sikandar Raza, Regis Chakabva (C/ WK), Ryan Burl, Luke Jongwe, Brad Evans, Victor Nyauchi, Tanaka Chivanga (In for Richard Ngarava).

India (Playing XI) - Shikhar Dhawan, Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul (C), Deepak Hooda, Sanju Samson (WK), Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur (In for Deepak Chahar), Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj.

Toss - It's time for the all-important flip of the coin. Regis Chakabva does the honours being the home skipper, KL Rahul calls correctly and INDIA ELECT TO BOWL!

OUT! RUN OUT! A catastrophic end to the Zimbabwean innings. Prasidh Krishna starts off the new spell with a length ball around off. Ryan Burl taps it away towards deep cover and gets across for a single. Ryan Burl though wants to get back on strike and starts running for the second. Bot batters are left stranded near the batter's end and Tanaka Chivanga has to scamper back. Kuldeep Yadav picks up the ball and throws it to the bowler who has an easy job of just whipping off the bails. Chivanga is the last man to depart for Zimbabwe and they have been bundled out for 161!

The batters take this opportunity to get back for the second but there is a mix-up. Victor Nyauchi scampers back as Mohammed Siraj throws it towards the keeper who whips off the bails. The decision is sent upstairs and replays show that Nyauchi is short of his ground.

Given lbw! The decision has been reviewed. Axar Patel serves what looks like another arm ball. This is on a length and around off, angling in and Sikandar Raza decides to leave it. There is a huge appeal from the fielding side and it is given out. Sikandar Raza has decided to review the decision. The impact could have been an issue but no shot has been offered. There is a bit of confusion initially as the third umpire considers that the shot has been offered.
