Gavin Hoey is an up-and-coming Irish cricketer, celebrated for his right-handed batting and skillful leg-spin bowling. Representing the Leinster Lightning in the Inter-Provincial Trophy and Pembroke Cricket Club in the Irish Senior Cup, Hoey has been carving a name for himself in the Irish cricketing circuit. Adding to his cricketing pedigree, he is the son of former Irish cricketer Conor Hoey.

Hoey's talent became evident early in his career. In May 2018, he was included in Ireland's Under-17 winter training squads, and by June 2019, he was a part of the Ireland Under-19 team competing in the qualifiers for the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. His potential quickly attracted attention, earning him a spot in Leinster Lightning's squad for the 2021 Inter-Provincial Trophy. Head coach Nigel Jones described Hoey as an exciting prospect for Irish cricket.

Hoey made his T20 debut for Leinster Lightning on 26 June 2021, and in only his second match, he delivered a standout performance, taking two crucial wickets against the North West Warriors and earning the Player of the Match award. Earlier that month, he had debuted for Dublin University Cricket Club, showcasing his batting prowess with a display of powerful hitting, including a four and two sixes.

Hoey’s List A debut came on 10 May 2022, when he represented Leinster Lightning against the Munster Reds in the Inter-Provincial Cup. His first-class debut followed on 25 November 2023, during Ireland Emerging’s tour of the West Indies, where they played against the West Indies Academy.

Hoey's progress was rewarded in July 2024 when he received his first senior call-up to the Ireland squad for a one-off Test match against Zimbabwe. This milestone highlights his journey from a promising young player to a vital part of Ireland's cricketing future.
