In December 2022, alongside fast bowler Ihsanullah and batter Haseebullah Khan, Saim Ayub was one of the three youngsters selected to be included in the national squad for the second Test match of the New Zealand series in Karachi, so they could get some international exposure and see the dynamics of the dressing room. 2024 proved to be a vital year in Ayub’s life as he made his Test debut in January against Australia and after a topsy-turvy season, he also went on to make his ODI debut against the same side and made valuable contributions to help Pakistan win an ODI series in Australia since 2002. He then went on to score his maiden ODI ton in December of 2024 against South Africa in another ODI series that Pakistan were able to clinch away from home.
