Ramon Simmonds

West Indies
Bowler
Left-arm fast medium 24 yrs.

Ramon Simmonds is a promising young cricketer from Barbados, born on October 16, 2001. A left-arm fast-medium bowler, he represents Barbados in West Indian domestic cricket and has been part of the regional system from a young age. His representative journey began with the Barbados Under-17 team in 2018 and later included selection for the West Indies squad at the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. His potential was recognised early, leading to his inclusion in the CWI Emerging Players Academy in 2022, a programme focused on high-performance development.

Simmonds made an immediate impact in red-ball cricket following his First-Class debut for Barbados in February 2022. Against the Leeward Islands, he took a wicket in the first innings and followed it up with a four-wicket haul in the second, playing a key role in securing victory. That debut season yielded 12 wickets in 4 matches, making him the second-highest wicket-taker for a Barbados side that went on to win the 2021–22 West Indies Championship. He later made his List A debut in November 2022 in the Super50 Cup, once again delivering with the ball by claiming four wickets for 39 runs against the West Indies Academy.

At the international level, Simmonds earned his senior debut for the West Indies in 2025, playing against Nepal in a T20I series, adding another layer to his steady rise through the ranks. Though his time on the international stage has so far been in its early phase, his selection reflects the confidence of the selectors in his ability to develop into a reliable option for the national side over time.

The Barbadian left-armer gained significant attention in the T20 format with the Barbados Royals in the Caribbean Premier League. Making his T20 debut in September 2022, he quickly established himself as a match-winner. A major highlight was his spell of 3 for 17 in Qualifier 1, which played a vital role in guiding his team into the final. His tournament ended with 7 wickets from 8 matches, earning him the Emerging Player of the Tournament award and a place in the 2022 Hero CPL Team of the Tournament. His effectiveness with variations, slower balls, and yorkers at the death further strengthened his reputation as a high-impact T20 bowler.

Following his CPL success, Simmonds attracted opportunities beyond the Caribbean. He represented the Barbados Royals in the T10-format tournament The 6ixty and was later signed by the Paarl Royals for the inaugural season of the SA20 in South Africa. As a young left-arm pacer with proven success across formats and competitions, Ramon Simmonds continues to be regarded as one of the most exciting fast-bowling talents in West Indian cricket, with the potential for a sustained international career.
