Wellington Masakadza was born on Oct 4, 1993. He's a deft left-arm spinner and the youngest of the three Masakadza brothers, Hamilton and Shingirai, who was born in Harare. They all represented Zimbabwe in international cricket. He began playing cricket at a young age and played three matches for Zimbabwe in the 2012 U-19 ICC Cricket World Cup.

Masakadza was chosen for the Mountaineers team after a productive T20 tryout. During the domestic 2013–2014 season, he made his senior debut with the reputable team. In 2014, he played in his first competitive encounter, winning with a five-wicket haul. He later developed into a vicious spinner, claiming 15 wickets in just four Logan Cup games during the 2013-14 season.

In September 2014, Masakadza's best performance of 6 for 63 while playing for Zimbabwe A against Bangladesh opened the way for him to join the senior team. He was included in the 17-man team for their tour of Bangladesh the following month. On October 9, 2015, the southpaw made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe in Harare.

Masakadza impressed everyone with how he handled pressure in his first game, in addition to taking 2/45 with the ball. In October 2018, he was initially chosen for the Test squad due to his domestic first-class records. On November 3, 2018, the all-rounder from Harare faced Afghanistan in his first Test match.

Wellington Masakadza was a member of the T20 squad against Afghanistan after the Covid-19 outbreak but was unable to have an impact on the series. He has already made a name for himself as a reliable spinner in the Zimbabwean playing XI and plans to play cricket in other local T20 Leagues across the globe.
