Commentary

Right then, England got the job done, there were nervous times for them throughout but eventually, we had a completed game, a shortened one but we got a result and it was the result England wanted. Now all eyes are on the Aussies. If they do manage to beat Scotland, England go through, anything other than that, it is the Scottish who’ll proceed. That game begins at 6 AM IST (12.30 AM GMT). You can join us an hour early for the build-up. Until then, cheers and have a good time.

Jos Buttler says he’s relieved. Mentions the performance was good. Adds he felt they had enough as the ball was sticking in the wicket. Mentions Brook and Bairstow played really well. States they have dealt with everything well and done what they could have.

The losing skipper of Namibia, Merwe Erasmus is up for a quick chat and says the target was a lot to ask for. Adds that David Wiese was brilliant with the bat and he has been a great servant to the nation and this being his last game it was good to see him bat like that. Mentions that they are happy to represent Namibia on the bigger stage but their motive was to advance and they will take a lot of learning from these games.

Harry Brook is the Player Of The Match for his match-winning knock of 47 in just 20 deliveries. He says that the players were anxious with a lot of rain but thankfully it stopped and they got the game going. Adds they knew it was going to be tough for Namibia as the pitch was wearing a bit. Adds that there was some spin and he just tried to stick around. Credits Jonny Bairstow for his smashing knock.

Stay tuned for the presentation...

Namibia really needed a special knock from someone but it did not come. However, Michael van Lingen and Niko Davin lacked the intent to begin with but Wiese really batted with a lot of intent and struck some meaty blows but they needed a lot more. In the end, a convincing show by England.

In reply, the England bowlers came to the fore too. Topley was really good along with Curran. They did not take a lot of wickets but kept it tight. They ensured England get a strong win.

A big relief for England as they have managed to emerge victorious. The weather gave them a real scare. It rained hard right from the start time but after a long delay, their prayers were answered and it began as an 11-over game. England were inserted but they lost their openers early. Bairstow and Brook got going and revived the innings. They counter-attacked and took England into a strong position before rain arrived again. That delay though was a short one as the players were back on the field in no time. The game was shortened to a 10-over per side and it was Brook and Moeen after that who hit sixes for fun. They took England to a massive score.

Commentary

We are back with the chase. The English players are out in the middle taking their respective field positions. Michael van Lingen and Niko Davin will be the openers for Namibia. Reece Topley will bowl the first over for England.

... The Run Chase ...

English batter Jonny Bairstow is up for a quick chat and says that it was a difficult pitch to bat on but the side did well to close the game on a high and post a good total on board. Mentions that David Wiese bowled really well but they'll look to defend the total set by them. Adds that there was swing on offer and with the covers being placed for such a while it was obvious that the pitch would be sweating a bit and it did. Credits Harry Brook for his brilliant batting and says that it is simple with Brook as they just have to let him bat and set him free.

The bowling from Namibia was good to begin with but they lost their way after the 3rd over. David Wiese in particular was superb as he bowled 2 overs for 6 and took 1 wicket as well. Merwe Erasmus and Jack Brassell were costly and gave away 58 off their 4 overs. Ruben Trumpelmann took 2 wickets while Bernard Scholtz took one as well. With the ball holding in the surface and the wet outfield leveling things this is going to be an exciting chase.

After being asked to bat first, England got off to a rocky start as they lost their openers cheaply and found it difficult to score freely to start with. The arrival of Jonny was key for England as he took on the bowlers from the opposition and managed to up the scoring rate. Jonny Bairstow along with Harry Brook managed to score 56 for the third wicket and set the tone for the others to follow. After the dismissal of Jonny Bairstow, It was Harry Brook and Moeen Ali who knitted a quickfire partnership of 38 runs that helped the side massively in closing their innings on a higher note. Harry Brook was the top scorer as he scored 47 off just 20 deliveries. Jonny Bairstow too played a good knock of 31. Moeen Ali and Liam Livingstone played good cameos as well.

In a rain-curtailed game, the English side has posted a good score on board. With a blistering knock from Jonny Bairstow and Harry Brook the defending champions have posted 122 on board. The revised target though for Namibia would be 126.

OUT! RUN OUT! But that is a massive last over. England end of a high. They finish with 122. Full and on middle. This is hit hard back towards the bowler. It hits his leg and rolls to his right. They take one and go for the second. The bowler throws it to the keeper who takes the bails off.

9.52b

Bonus runs! This is short and angled away from off. Livingstone is taken by surprise. He misses the pull. They take one. The keeper has a shy at his end but misses. Ruben then has a shy at the bowler's end but misses. One more taken.

9.46

SIX! Two in a row. In the arc and out of the park. Full and on off. Right on the slot. This is slammed over the long on fence for a biggie. Three biggies in 4 balls.

9.36

SIX! Over square leg. His one hand came off the handle but it still goes all the way. That is the power of this guy. Right in his arc. On middle. He helps it on its way over the fine leg fence.

9.2W

OUT! TAKEN! Trupelmann gets his revenge. He goes short again and a slower one. The key here was he bowled to close on the body. Ali pulls but it goes off the toe end and the deep mid-wicket fielder takes it. A good cameo from Moeen.

9.16

SIX! Massive! A slower one around off and Moeem picks it and slams it over the long on fence for a biggie. Really well waited and slammed it.

Update 12.53 AM IST (7.23 PM GMT, Saturday) - Good news folks! The covers are slowly coming off and we have a start time! It will be an 11-overs-per-side game and the match will start at 1.30 am IST (8 PM GMT, Saturday). The toss will take place at 1.10 AM IST. So, it will be a 3-over powerplay and only one bowler can bowl a maximum of three overs.

Update 12.39 AM IST (7.09 PM GMT, Saturday) - Hopes are fading as the rain continues to come down! There are a lot of wet patches too and to clear that up will take sometime. The chances of a game are decreasing with every passing minute. The cut-off time for a 5-over game is 2.16 AM IST (8.46 PM GMT, Saturday).

Update 12.18 AM IST (6.48 PM GMT, Saturday) - We have begun losing overs now. The covers are firmly in place and the outfield has accumulated puddles of water. Clearly not good signs for England here!

Update 11.45 PM IST (6.15 PM GMT) - Things not looking good, there seems to be a lot of water on the field and the rain also isn't going. It isn't heavy but still there. We will start losing overs in around 15 minutes from now. Fingers crossed at the moment.

Update - 11.19 PM IST (5.49 PM GMT) - Nothing new to update it is still raining here at the ground. Worrying signs for England a washout would knock them out of the tournament.

Update - 10.33 PM IST (05.03 PM GMT) - Good news folks! The rain has stopped and the match officials are out in the middle as they look at the conditions. The groundstaff is mopping up as the rain has caused a few puddles around the square. We also got a word that an official inspection is scheduled at 11.30 PM IST (6 PM GMT).

Update 10.14 PM IST (04.44 PM GMT) - It is absolutely pelting down at the moment and that's not good news again for England. The longer the delay goes on, the more the English players will be worried. Will they have the same fate as Pakistan?

Update 10.04 PM IST (04.34 PM GMT) - Well, not the best of news to begin with for England, the covers are in place but there seems to be no rain. However, there was a lot of rain earlier but the forecast is really good. Let me remind you, England need a game to be played here, they need a win to stand a change to go through. They'll hope the conditions improve and they do get a game.

Saying that, Namibia are a dangerous side, they have a few special players but they haven't been at their best so far in this tournament. However, they would love to play as party spoilers here. They'll have to be at their best if they are to beat this strong England side. Can they upset the odds?

The World Cup continues and it has been nothing short of entertaining. We now welcome you to the coverage of another game which has a lot depending on it. First, it is a must-win for England. Their previous win has given their net run rate a massive boost and another win like that will see them move above Scotland who will be facing the Aussies. England's qualification thoigh totally depends on that game but they would be hoping to do their job and that is end the group stage with a win and they'll surely be backing themselves to do so.

... MATCH DAY ...

The T20 cricket festival is in full swing as we await match number 34 of the 2024 T20 Men's World Cup. The clash will occur in Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua where England and Namibia lock horns against each other. We are nearing the end of the group stages and each team wants to qualify for the Super 8 stages and be alive in the tournament. Namibia are officially out of the qualification scenario and this match might be a formality for them but England have a lot riding on this. With 3 points they are stranded at third on their table with Scotland above them with 5 points. England desperately needs to win this and a healthy margin would be gracefully accepeted by the English side and they'd hope that Australia beat Scotland. They were lethal in their last game against Oman. They didn't allow any of their batters to settle in. Adil bagged 4 wickets while Archer and Wood grabbed 3 each. They bowled out Oman for a mere 47 runs, which was an easy target to chase. The batters too didn't fail to in their task and attacked from the first ball. They lost two wickets but the aggressive batting of Jos made it possible to chase the target down in just 3.1 overs hence boosting their NRR by a long margin. Namibia on the other hand had a poor tournament. They failed to win a single match until now and couldn't perform as expected. Against the Aussies, they were bowled out for just 72 runs with their skipper, Gerhard being the top scorer with 36 to his name. Apart from him, only Michael got his score to the double digits. The bowlers didn't have much to defend either and apart from the wicket by David, they couldn't find any success. They have a chance to win their second match of the tournament and also spoil the party for the English. Which team are you supporting?
