Series finale - The three-format contest between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh has arrived at its concluding chapter of the ODI leg, and what a chapter it has been for the hosts. It is filled with history and ecstasy. Zimbabwe stunned the visitors in the one-off Test and then made it clear that the result was no accident by carrying that same dominance into the ODIs, going 2-0 up in a manner that left little room for argument. Now, in the third and final ODI, the Chevrons stand one win away from a complete whitewash of Bangladesh, a feat that would mark their first clean sweep of a major Test-playing nation in 25 years. The last time it happened was back in 2001, when Zimbabwe swept the same opponents both at home and away. For Bangladesh, the story reads very differently. Their streak of four ODI series wins has been snapped, and the manner of the defeat has opened up uncomfortable questions about how they fare once they step outside home comfort. This marks their first ODI series loss in 2026, with the last such defeat coming at the hands of Afghanistan in the UAE. Too hot to handle - The Chevrons just kept coming back at Bangladesh. Match after match, a different face has stood up to be counted across both the batting and bowling departments. The first ODI saw the pacers combine beautifully to defend a modest total of 141, doing so with real authority. The second threw up a much better batting display, headlined by Ben Curran's brilliant 111 and backed by some crucial runs from the lower order. Yet through both contests, it is Zimbabwe's bowling attack that has given Bangladesh no way out, bundling them out on both occasions with the new ball quartet setting the tempo right from the start. And at the heart of it all has been captain Richard Ngarava, whose first assignment as full-time skipper has gone about as well as it possibly could. He has got the support from his pace mates Blessing Muzarabani, Brad Evans and Newman Nyamhuri has been the find for them so far. Yet it would be unfair to ignore the cracks in the batting unit. The likes of Brian Bennett and senior pro Craig Ervine are yet to leave any real mark with the bat this series, and the recurring batting slide remains a genuine worry. In the first game, wickets kept tumbling in a heap before the lower order stepped in to bail them out, and in the second, they slipped to 66/4, with the top order (barring Ben Curran) once again failing to provide the early impetus needed. On the bigger picture, Raza noted that a winning culture has reshaped the mindset within the group after yet another come-from-behind victory over Bangladesh, with an eye already on the 2027 home World Cup and their WTC aspirations. That road will throw up a completely different kind of test, but going by their run to the Super Eights of the 2026 T20 World Cup, Zimbabwe have every reason to dream as big as they want to from here. A serious need for introspection - What makes it more painful for Bangladesh is that their bowling has not been the letdown, but has been overshadowed by some lackadaisical batting approach. Nahid Rana produced the best figures by a Bangladesh bowler in ODI cricket with his six-wicket haul in the opener, with Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed chipping in as well, but both efforts have gone in vain given how little support they have received with the bat. From Bangladesh's point of view, both chases should never have gotten as tricky as they did. There were phases in both games where they looked firmly in control, with Hridoy and Nurul Hasan steadying things through the middle overs in the first ODI, and the same duo carrying forward the good work done by an 84-run stand between Tanzid and Hridoy in the second. But their habit of losing wickets in clusters, and doing so at the most inopportune moments, kept handing Zimbabwe a way back into games that should have been theirs. And eventually, it was Bangladesh who cracked under that pressure while Zimbabwe held firm. The bigger challenge for Bangladesh through this tour has been adapting to these conditions. It was exposed first in the one-off Test and has resurfaced right through the ODI series as well. The variable bounce on offer at the Harare tracks has proved to be a real nemesis for their batters, and that has been compounded further by some questionable shot selections that have done the ultimate damage.
