Commentary
Welcome back, everyone. The Pakistani players are out in the middle. Saif Hassan and Tanzid Hasan to open for Bangladesh. Shaheen Afridi to bowl first. Let's play...
...THE CHASE...
Game update - Usually, the innings break in this format is longer, but due to the auspicious month of Ramadan, it will be limited to 10 minutes. However, there will be a 40-minute break at 12 pm GMT, allowing the players to break their fast.
Bangladesh's fast bowling coach - Shaun Tait says that they have bowled really well but they still have to chase, and the game is not over. He says that the staff are working hard and the players are doing their best to improve their play. Although it's a positive start for them as they bowled really well in this game, but they need to carry on with this performance. Ended up saying that Nahid Rana has been their standout bowler and he has a lot of potential in him.
The visitors struggled - The new-look Pakistan crumbled under pressure. In the absence of a couple of key players, Pakistan were still expected to put on a competitive performance, but after the solid opening stand, they fell like a pack of cards. Pakistan managed to cross the 100-mark, thanks to the cameo from Faheem Ashraf, but it probably would not bail them out of a certain result. Pakistan need a miracle, and the opening ten overs could predict the future of this game, but as things stand, the hosts should chase it down easily.
Nahid Rana’s rampage! The young pacer has been the star of the show, tearing through Pakistan's top and middle order to claim a five-wicket haul. His career best so far. Rana’s extra bounce and pace proved unplayable. He broke a cautious 41-run opening stand by removing debutants Sahibzada Farhan and Maaz Sadaqat in quick succession. However, credit to the captain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, as well for keeping it tight from the other end as well. He bowled in tandem along with Rana in the 10-20 overs period that dismantled the Pakistani line-up.
Bangladesh put on a show - Nahid Rana leads the team with the ball in hand. What a fantastic spell from the young pacer. His effort has truly put the game to bed but Faheem Ashraf's cameo has given Pakistan something to fight for. A clinical bowling display from Bangladesh have left Pakistan reeling at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, as the visitors are bundled out for a meagre 114. After being put in to bat, Pakistan’s new-look top order failed to withstand a ferocious opening spell, leading to a dramatic collapse.
OUT! TAKEN! Mustafizur Rahman wraps things up here. He bangs this hard into the pitch, on middle and off. Faheem Ashraf looks to heave it across the line but the ball hits him high on the bat. He mistimes the shot wide of short mid-wicket, where Taskin Ahmed takes a good tumbling catch to his right. Pakistan have been bowled out for 114.
Back of a length, outside off. Ashraf dabs it to third man and denies the run.
Touch too full and around off. Faheem Ashraf knocks it to cover for no run.
On a good length and on middle. Faheem Ashraf keeps it out on the leg side.

Floated, full and on off, Faheem Ashraf taps it out to cover.
Tossed up, full and on middle, Faheem Ashraf prods forward and blocks it out.
DRINKS! Faheem Ashraf is showing some fight as Pakistan cross the 100-run mark, but they are still far away from a competitive score. Faheem Ashraf has been tactical so far, batting with the last man and needs to continue. Bangladesh, on the other hand, should back themselves to pick the last wicket in the next few overs.

Commentary
Wrap from the First ODI - That brings us to the end of this game, where Bangladesh brushed aside Pakistan to go 1-0 up in the series. The hosts will now look to seal the deal in the next match, while the visitors will be desperate to bounce back and force a decider. We will be back at the Shere-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on Friday, 13th March, for the second ODI, which begins at 8.15 AM GMT. As always, you can join us a little earlier for all the build-up to the match. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
Confident of getting the results - Mehidy Hasan Miraz, the victorious skipper of Bangladesh, says they were playing the ODI format after a long time, but he is happy with how the team has performed. Shares Nahid Rana bowled brilliantly and in the right areas today. Reckons they know how important the next two games are and are confident of getting the results.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Nahid Rana wins the award for his superb spell, finishing with figures of 5/24(7). He says that this was his first international match here in Mipur, so it was even more special for him to perform well and contribute to the team. Adds that it feels good, and he definitely wants to keep performing like this consistently. Rana mentions that the wicket had something for both batters and bowlers, it did help early on to get some movement, and they exploited it well. Ends by saying that their plan was to hit the right areas and keep tight lines and let the pitch do the rest.
Partnerships are crucial in this format - Shaheen Afridi, the captain of Pakistan, says that they started well before Nahid Rana came in to bowl. He thinks they bowled really well, but didn't get the start they wanted in the first game. Afridi acknowledges that partnerships are crucial in one-day cricket, both in batting and bowling, but at the same time, he backed his teammates. On the preparation for the upcoming clash, he says that he is looking ahead, focusing on the next game, saying there are still two games left and he believes that they can turn this over.
Presentation Time...
Rana's fiery spell leaves Pakistan in ruins - Earlier in the game, Pakistan were blown away by a magical spell from Nahid Rana, who picked up his maiden ODI five-for, finishing with figures of 5/24, including a wicket in each of his first five overs. Mehidy picked up a three-fer, while Taskin and Fizz chipped in with one each. Pakistan actually began well with a 41-run opening stand, but things quickly unravelled once Sahibzada Farhan was dismissed. Faheem Ashraf's fighting 37 helped them crawl past the 100-run mark, but the resistance was brief as they were eventually bowled out for 114. With seven single-digit scores in the lineup, it made for a rather sorry-looking scorecard.
Bangladesh cruise home - Chasing a modest total, Bangladesh made light work of the target. Saif Hassan could not make much of an impact, but Tanzid Hasan was at his absolute best, displaying a wide range of shots and scoring freely all around the ground. Najmul Hossain Shanto played second fiddle as the duo added 82 runs together, taking the attack to the bowlers. Tanzid brought up a fine half-century and remained unbeaten on 67 as Bangladesh chased down the target in just over 15 overs. Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Wasim managed to pick up a wicket each, but Pakistan needed a lot more on the board. In truth, it was their batters who failed to show up, leaving the bowlers with far too little to defend.
Hosts outclass Pakistan in Mirpur - Utter domination from Bangladesh with both bat and ball, outplaying Pakistan in every aspect of the game. A perfect start for the hosts in the ODI series as they take an early lead, and it also goes down as a statement win, having never really allowed the visitors even a sniff in the contest. It also marks Bangladesh's fourth consecutive ODI win over Pakistan in Mirpur, continuing their strong record at the venue since the famous whitewash of 2015.

We are not far away from the start of the game, but before that, players from both sides make their way out to the middle and line up for their respective national anthems. It will be Pakistan's first, followed by that of Bangladesh.
PITCH REPORT - Former Bangladesh cricketer, Athar Ali Khan is pitchside. He says that there is a little bit of green tinge on top of the wicket. Adds that the bowlers will look to pitch it on the good length area to get some movement. Mentions that the square boundaries are 70 and 62 meters while the straight hit is 79 meters. He expects even bounce and reckons it will be good for both bowling and batting.
A winning start is crucial - Shaheen Afridi, the skipper of Pakistan, says he'd opt to bat first on this track. He also shares that they will have 4 debutants, therefore they will get the chance to bat freely without pressure, and support them. On the expectation on debutants he says that he is excited, having seen them perform well for the Shaheens and domestically. Afridi hopes they'll go on to have long careers with Pakistan. Afridi also believes a winning start is crucial as it gives him more freedom as captain, and he wants to just go with the flow and play their best cricket. After being asked that what would be a suitable target on the track, he replied that 270-280 would be a good target.
The players are excited for this series - Mehidy Hasan Miraz, the captain of Bangladesh, says they would like to bowl first as he feels the dew might come in the evening. Reckons that they have a very good bowling attack and hopes for some early wickets in the first 10 overs. Tells that they have experience with these conditions as they recently played a domestic tournament here. Mentions the players are excited for the series. Informs they are going with three pacers and two spinners.
Pakistan (Playing XI) - Sahibzada Farhan, Maaz Sadaqat, Shamyl Hussain, Mohammad Rizwan (WK), Salman Agha, Hussain Talat, Abdul Samad, Faheem Ashraf, Shaheen Afridi (C), Mohammad Wasim, Abrar Ahmed.
Bangladesh (Playing XI) - Mehidy Hasan Miraz (C), Tanzid Hasan, Saif Hassan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Litton Das (WK), Tawhid Hridoy, Afif Hossain, Rishad Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Nahid Rana.
TOSS - Bangladesh have won the toss and elected to BOWL first.
A fresh chapter - Bangladesh also seeks to build momentum after the World Cup phase, which saw them navigate complex challenges including a withdrawal from scheduled matches in India. But surely they have got ample amount of time to focus on the future and think about the prosperity of the team. If we talk about their last ODI outing, it was a successful one with 2-1 series victory over the West Indies in October 2025 which also proves their strength in the longer format. The last time these two sides met in a One-Day International was during the 2023 World Cup, where Pakistan emerged victorious by seven wickets. However, Bangladesh holds a strong historical advantage at Mirpur, having previously achieved a clean sweep against the Men in Green on this very ground. So there is no doubt that this game will be a riveting one, but it will be interesting to see who gets the upper hand in this first clash of the series. Stay tuned for toss and team updates!
Focusing on the blueprint - Pakistan enters this series looking for redemption after a disappointing T20 World Cup campaign in India and Sri Lanka, where they failed to progress beyond the Super 8 stage. This underwhelming performance has led to a significant squad overhaul under head coach Mike Hesson, with six uncapped players included and high-profile players like Babar Azam, Mohammad Nawaz and also young prodigy like Saim Ayub notably missing the selection. Despite the recent T20 setback, Pakistan's ODI form remains formidable, having secured a 3-0 series sweep against Sri Lanka in November 2025, which they aim to carry into this tour as part of their long-term preparation.
Greetings folks - The first ODI between Bangladesh and Pakistan at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, marks a pivotal return to the 50-over format for both nations. Significantly, this series is their first international encounter following the conclusion of the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup phase, serving as a fresh start for teams looking to redefine their white-ball strategies.
... MATCH DAY ...
Match intro - The cricketing world shifts its focus to Dhaka as Bangladesh hosts Pakistan for a three-match ODI series, starting March 11, 2026. This series represents a pivotal reset for both nations following the 2026 T20 World Cup. While Bangladesh enters the series after a period of internal transition and withdrawal from the global stage, Pakistan arrives with a radically revamped squad under the leadership of Shaheen Afridi. Pakistan’s 'New Era' Minus Babar - In a move that sent shockwaves through the cricketing community, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) excluded Babar Azam from the ODI squad. The selection committee has signaled a hard pivot toward the future, naming six uncapped players (including the likes of Maaz Sadaqat and Faisal Akram). With Shaheen Afridi at the helm, Pakistan is looking to shed its recent T20 World Cup baggage and build a blueprint for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Bangladesh’s Search for Stability - Led by Mehidy Hasan Miraz, the Tigers are looking to reclaim their status as 'giant killers' at home. The squad sees the return of Afif Hossain and the retention of Litton Das, despite the latter’s recent struggles. Playing in Mirpur, Bangladesh will rely on their spin-heavy arsenal and the passionate Dhaka crowd to unsettle a young Pakistani side. Form guide (Last 5 completed ODIS, most recent first) - BAN - WLWLL | PAK - WWWWL. How will the pitch play? The Shere Bangla National Stadium is notorious for its slow and low nature. Expect the ball to grip and turn from the first innings. Batting first has traditionally been the preferred choice in Mirpur to avoid chasing on a deteriorating surface, though the evening dew during a Day/Night fixture can sometimes assist the chasing side. What to expect? Despite the absence of Babar Azam, the pace trio of Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Mohammad Wasim gives Pakistan a lethal edge. However, if the Mirpur pitch is a 'dust-bowl,' Bangladesh’s familiarity with the conditions could easily see them pull off a home win. Who are you backing for the win?
