Commentary

Closing the curtain - That concludes the final ODI and the series. Bangladesh have claimed the series 2-1 here in Mirpur, finishing on a high note. Skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz lifts the trophy alongside his teammates, celebrating behind the ‘Winners’ banner and posing for memorable pictures. We hope you’ve enjoyed our coverage of this series. There’s more cricket action coming up, with the New Zealand vs South Africa five-match T20I series underway today, in which the Proteas secured a commanding win. Keep following for all the action. Until next time, cheers and goodbye!

It was a team effort - Mehidy Hasan Miraz, the victorious skipper of Bangladesh, says it was an excellent match. Reckons 300 would have been better, but was happy with the score. Mehidy says that Tanzid Hasan, Litton Das and Tawhid Hridoy played really well with the bat while Taskin Ahmed bowled really well, picking three wickets, which gave a lot of momentum to them.

PLAYER OF THE SERIES - Nahid Rana and Tanzid Hasan share this award. Rana picked up 8 wickets in the series, including a fine fifer in the first game, while Tanzid scored 175 runs in total. Rana says that it feels very good to get his first player of the series award. Adds that his simple plan was to try to follow his captain's plan and get as many wickets as possible. Tells that the wicket supported both the bowler and batters, and whoever did well got the reward. Rana mentions that he has been working hard, especially on spot bowling and trying to improve his skills every day. Ends by saying that he just tried to execute the same things in this game.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Tanzid Hasan wins the award for his excellent knock of 107 off 107 balls. He says it was a very important series for him. He tried to be cautious in the first 10 overs. Feels the ball was holding a bit later on and was hard for new batters to score. Tells that the team management always supported and backed him. Admits he doesn't try to hit too hard but time the ball well.

The team tried till the end - Shaheen Afridi, the captain of Pakistan, says the team tried till the end and credits the youngsters who stepped up in this game. On Salman Agha, Afridi says he is an all-format player for them, and has been doing this for Pakistan for a long, long time. On his innings, Afridi says it was his business to try but credits the way Bangladesh bowled in the death. Reckons they need more hard work and to be fit in all three departments.

Presentation Time...

Bangladesh bowlers deliver in dramatic finish - Bangladesh started brilliantly with the ball, with Taskin Ahmed striking twice early and Rana also chipping in with a wicket. They did miss a few run-out opportunities, but Rana and Mustafizur Rahman struck in quick succession to leave Pakistan five down. However, the bowlers were then made to work hard as Salman Agha counterattacked and looked in sublime touch. Mustafizur eventually broke the crucial stand, while Taskin returned to deliver the decisive blows by dismissing Faheem Ashraf and the dangerous Agha, finishing with a superb four-fer. Despite being hit for two sixes and taking a painful blow to his left knee, Mustafizur still came back to bowl the final ball of the penultimate over and removed Rauf, before Rishad Hossain held his nerve in the last over to seal the deal.

Good battle between bat and ball - Earlier in the game, Bangladesh posted a big total on the board, courtesy of a fantastic maiden ODI hundred from Tanzid Hasan, who was also involved in a massive 105-run opening stand alongside Saif Hassan. They did get a bit stuck in the middle overs when Litton and Towhid were batting, but the pair ensured they did not throw their wickets away, adding 68 runs together with both scoring in the 40s. Hridoy then managed to get a few away towards the end to push the total closer to 300. For Pakistan, Shaheen rotated his bowlers nicely and was proactive with the field placements. He was economical and picked up a wicket, while Abrar Ahmed also chipped in with one, but Haris Rauf was the pick of the bowlers, ending with a three-fer.

Late drama but Pakistan fall short - Agha continued to anchor the chase, adding a couple of more fifty-plus stands, first with Faheem Ashraf and then with Shaheen Afridi, while also bringing up a fine hundred. However, his dismissal at a crucial stage tilted the game again. Afridi kept Pakistan's hopes alive with two towering sixes off Mustafizur Rahman in the penultimate over, taking the contest right down to the wire, needing 14 runs in the final over. But Rishad Hossain kept his composure, and Pakistan ultimately fell short in a gripping finish.

Early collapse, Agha leads the fightback - Pakistan stumbled early on, finding themselves reeling at 17/3. Abdul Samad and debutant Ghazi Ghori had a few mix-ups between the wickets but still managed to stitch together a 50-run stand to steady things briefly. However, both fell in quick succession, leaving Pakistan in deeper trouble at 82/5. Salman Agha then walked in with his trademark calmness and, alongside another debutant Saad Masood, rebuilt the innings with a crucial 79-run partnership, taking calculated risks before the youngster eventually succumbed to the pressure.

Bangladesh prevail in Dhaka thriller - We have witnessed a thrilling contest here in Dhaka, with both teams having their moments and throwing punches at each other, neither willing to back down. In the end, Bangladesh held their nerve to clinch the series 2-1 at home, with Rishad Hossain keeping his calm when it mattered the most to help his side get over the line. This victory not only gives them back-to-back ODI series wins over Pakistan at home, but also provides crucial points in their push for direct qualification for the 2027 ODI World Cup. That said, Pakistan deserve plenty of credit as well, with Salman Agha producing a superb hundred while Shaheen Afridi played his part to take the contest right down to the wire.

OUT! STUMPED! Bangladesh hold their nerves. Flights it full and on leg, turning away. Afridi comes down the track and swings but misses. Litton Das, the keeper, picks up to his right, fumbles a bit but Afridi was in no mood to get back and he clips the bails off. BANGLADESH WIN BY 11 RUNS AND SEAL THE SERIES.

49.50

A low full toss, dipping on the leg side. Afridi steps across to sweep it away but misses. Hossain and Das feel there was a blade on it, but Das fumbled to catch it. More importantly, they want it to be a dot ball. Hang on, Bangladesh have taken the review. UltraEdge shows a spike as the ball rolls past the cue end of the bat, before the bounce. The wide decision is overturned.

49.40

DOT! 12 runs needed in 2 balls. A wrong 'un, touch fuller and outside off. Afridi tries to slog it away but misses.

49.32

A bit too full and around off. Afridi gets on his knee and slogs it down to long on for a couple of runs. Excellent work from Soumya Sarkar under pressure.

49.20

DROPPED! We are not done yet! Floats in a fuller delivery, around off, turning away. Afridi looks to slog sweep but top edges it over Hossain's head. He runs back and tries to take over his shoulder but spills it out.

49.10

Rishad Hossain bowls a quicker, fuller delivery around off. Afridi defends it out.

Abrar Ahmed is the last man in. The big question is who will bowl the last over? The pacers have bowled out. Mehidy Hasan Miraz only have Rishad Hossain and Saif Hassan available. It will be Rishad. He has 13 runs to defend here, Pakistan have one wicket in hand. All eyes on Shaheen Afridi now.

OUT! GONE! Mustafizur Rahman, on his crutches, ends with a wicket. Superb effort from Fizz! A cutter, fuller delivery, around off. It was almost like a free hit for Rauf, who went for the slog sweep but skied the shot to deep mid-wicket. Mehidy Hasan Miraz gets under it and makes no mistake. Bangladesh one wicket away from the win.

The physio is in to check on Mustafizur Rahman. He has taken a big blow on his left knee and is looking in a lot of pain, lying in the middle of the pitch. The stretcher comes out, and it does not look promising for him. The good thing is that he is up on his feet. He has taken up the ball and will try to bowl the last ball of the over.

48.51

OUCH! This is full and outside off. Afridi slog-sweeps it back to Mustafizur Rahman, who puts his body on line and stops with his left-knee. A single. Shaheen Afridi quickly consoles Fizz, but he looks in a lot of pain.

48.40

Pushes it full and wide outside off. Afridi throws his blade at it and pats it to cover.

48.36

SIX! AND AGAIN! We are going down to the wire. A scrambled seam length delivery, outside off. Afridi acceps the width, frees his arms and slams it flat over long on for a six.

48.20

Angles across a length ball, pace-off once again. Afridi taps it to point.

48.21wd

Wide! Even Mustafizur Rahman is feeling the pressure! Gets the delivery horribly wrong as he bowls it outside the line. Left alone for a wide.

48.16

SIX! The skipper is here to ruin the party. Pitches it up, around off, right in the slot and he doesn't miss out. Afridi gets low and hammers it over mid-wicket for a 78-meter six.

Mustafizur Rahman (9-0-40-2) to bowl the penultimate over.

The crowd is absolutely ecstatic as Bangladesh get the big wicket of Salman Agha. Haris Rauf comes out to the middle now.

Commentary

We are back for the chase! The Bangladesh players make their way out to the middle and take up their respective field positions. Sahibzada Farhan and Maaz Sadaqat are the two openers for Pakistan. Taskin Ahmed to start proceedings with the ball. Here we go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Pakistan are in the game, too! Shaheen Afridi displayed sharp tactical awareness by constantly shuffling his bowling resources to exploit the significant turn on offer for the spinners. This proactive approach, complemented by Haris Rauf’s relentless accuracy with hard-length deliveries, successfully neutralized the batting charge in crunch situations. Shaheen Afridi used just three overs of Faheem Ashraf before the final over, relying on the likes of Saad Masood and Salman Agha to do the job. Now then, it's tough to call the winner right now but under the lights, the hosts are the favourites. Can they do the job?

A commanding total on the board - Building on a blistering start that saw 50 runs hammered within the Powerplay, Bangladesh laid a formidable foundation for a massive total. Tanzid Hasan remained the linchpin of the innings, exuding control and dominance while his partners rotated the strike effectively around him. Even after Hasan departed following his magnificent century, the momentum hardly wavered. Litton Das and Towhid Hridoy joined forces in a brisk 68-run partnership off just 61 deliveries. Litton Das struggled to get going, but Tawhid Hridoy ensured his team ended up close to the 300 mark total.

Series decider - Both teams will be happy as we head into the innings break. Pakistan for keeping Bangladesh under 300, while the hosts for scoring at a brisk pace on a two-paced pitch that assisted the spinners.  While Tanzid Hasan’s historic 107 set a massive platform, Haris Rauf and Shaheen Afridi really tightened the screws for Pakistan to stay alive in the series decider.

OUT! TAKEN! Is that the series for the hosts? Wonderful delivery from Ahmed. Bowls a dipping fuller delivery, around off, takes pace off. Salman Agha mistimes his heave across the line as he goes through the shot early, not picking up the slower one. It goes high up and to deep mid-wicket where Najmul Hossain Shanto holds onto the skier. A brilliant innings from Agha, though, but he would be dissappointed not to take his side home.

There is some lightning happening near the stadium, but not close enough to stop play here. Nobody wants this game to be decided on DLS.

47.31

Back of a length delivery with a lot of width outside off. Afridi flashes his blade and slices it flat to deep point, who picks up on a bounce. A single.

47.21

47.11

We are all set for the decider! Pakistan players get into a huddle where Shaheen Afridi is giving them a pep talk, before they spread out and take the field. Saif Hassan and Tanzid Hasan are the two openers for Bangladesh. Afridi has the new ball in hand and is raring to go. Let's play...

PITCH REPORT - Athar Ali Khan is pitchside. He says that this game will played on the same surface which was used for the first ODI. Adds that there is some grass but less than the previous game. Says there are also a few dark patches due to the thunderstorms. Athar mentions that it is a sporting wicket which will help both the batters and bowlers. Reckons anything above 250 will be a good total here.

Bangladesh (Unchanged Playing XI) - Tanzid Hasan, Saif Hassan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Litton Das (WK), Tawhid Hridoy, Mehidy Hasan Miraz (C), Afif Hossain, Rishad Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Nahid Rana.

Pakistan (Playing XI) - Sahibzada Farhan, Maaz Sadaqat, Ghazi Ghori (In place of Shamyl Hussain and On Debut), Mohammad Rizwan (WK), Salman Agha, Abdul Samad, Saad Masood (In place of Hussain Talat and on Debut), Faheem Ashraf, Shaheen Afridi (C), Haris Rauf, Abrar Ahmed (In place of Mohammad Wasim).

TOSS - Pakistan have won the toss and elected to BOWL first.

The looming rain threat - The biggest question today isn't just about the battle between bat and ball, but also the skies above Dhaka. With a looming rain threat over the stadium, we might see another weather-affected match and revised targets just like we did on Friday. Let's hope the clouds stay away so we can get a full, uninterrupted contest to crown the series winner! Toss and team news to follow shortly...

Team news so far - Going into this final showdown, Pakistan will be forced to shuffle their lineup. All-rounder Hussain Talat suffered an injury while diving to stop a boundary in the last game and had to be stretchered off to the hospital. This forced change will definitely disrupt Pakistan's winning combination, meaning the team management will have some crucial decisions to make before the toss.

It has been a rollercoaster series so far - The second match was an absolute rollercoaster filled with excellent cricket and a bit of drama. Pakistan bounced back with strong batting from young Maaz Sadaqat and veteran Salman Ali Agha. However, Agha's controversial run-out by Mehidy Hasan Miraz sparked intense debate and triggered a batting collapse. Despite finishing at 274 all-out, Pakistan's fiery pace attack, led by Shaheen Afridi, ripped through the Bangladesh top order to secure a massive 128-run victory.

Welcome to the Grand Finale! Welcome to the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka for the third and final ODI! The series is perfectly tied at 1-1, and it all comes down to this thrilling decider. Interestingly, both teams share a haunting number this week - 114. Pakistan was surprisingly bundled out for 114 in the first game, while Bangladesh suffered the exact same fate in the rain-affected second match. Now, the stage is set to see who will finally conquer their demons and lift the trophy.

... MATCH DAY ...

Winner takes all in Dhaka - With the series locked at 1-1 and everything to play for, Bangladesh and Pakistan return to the Shere Bangla National Stadium for the third and final ODI on Sunday. It has been a series of two halves so far. The hosts dominated the opener with an eight-wicket win, only for Pakistan to roar back with a crushing 128-run victory in the second game. Both teams have now experienced being bowled out for exactly 114 runs in this series, proving that the Mirpur surface can be a fickle friend or a ruthless foe. Tigers hunting for home glory - Bangladesh will be desperate to reclaim their fortress after a tough outing in the second ODI where their top order crumbled before a rain delay made the chase even steeper. Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz remains the tactical heartbeat of the side, but the pressure is on the likes of Najmul Hossain Shanto and Litton Das to provide the batting stability they lacked last time out. Litton Das showed some spark with a top score of 41 in the previous match, but the Tigers need a vintage performance from him to anchor the innings against a fired-up Pakistani pace attack. Firepower and the spirit of the game - The bowling unit continues to be Bangladesh's most dangerous weapon. Nahid Rana, the hero of the first game with his historic 5/24, will be looking to get back into his rhythm after Pakistan's openers took him on in the second match. Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman provide the experience, while Rishad Hossain's leg spin remains a crucial wicket-taking option in the middle overs. Expect a bit of extra spice in the middle following the controversial run out of Salman Ali Agha by Mehidy Hasan Miraz, an incident that has sparked a massive debate over the spirit of the game. Agha was visibly fuming after being sent packing for 64, so expect some serious intensity when these two cross paths again. With Agha admitting he was ‘not saying nice things’ in the heat of the moment, expect some extra heat when these two face off again. Pakistan's youth revolution - For the visitors, the series has validated their decision to blood new talent. The standout story has been 20-year-old Maaz Sadaqat, who followed a quiet debut with a match winning 75 off 46 balls and three wickets with his left arm spin. Pakistan's aggression at the top of the order, led by Sadaqat and Sahibzada Farhan, completely unsettled the hosts in the powerplay. Shaheen Afridi's captaincy has been proactive, and the inclusion of Haris Rauf has added raw pace that the Tigers found difficult to handle under the lights. However, they may be without all rounder Hussain Talat, who was hospitalised due to a serious left shoulder injury, after a painful collision with the boundary boards during the second game. ODI rivalry through the years - Bangladesh's most recent ODI series win over Pakistan came in 2015 when they swept the visitors 3-0 in Mirpur. However, the historical balance of power still tilts toward Pakistan, who have won 35 of the 41 matches played between these two sides. The visitors recorded dominant series wins in 2002, 2003, 2008, and 2011, but the hosts have recently won four of their last five ODI meetings against Pakistan at this specific venue. Team Form (Last 5 completed ODIs, most recent first) Bangladesh - LWWLW | Pakistan - WLWWW. The ranking crisis - Bangladesh is currently ranked 10th in the ICC ODI rankings as of March 2026, having slipped from higher positions following a tough streak of form, including a 3-0 whitewash by the West Indies in 2025.
