Commentary

We are back.

...THE CHASE...

Bangladesh would have loved to fold the innings early on but this is still a pretty good job. They would have taken this score at the start. All the bowlers deserve an appreciation here. They were right on the money from the start. The seamers though, Mohammad Saifuddin and Taskin Ahmed ended with three wickets each while Mahedi Hasan and Rishad Hossain were decent in the middle phase. Bangladeshi bowlers have done the job and will hope the batters finish things with ease. Can they or are we in for a surprise by Zimbabwe?

Zimbabwe have reached to a decent total here. From 41 for 7 to 116 for 8 is an incredible achievement as once even 70-80 was looking difficult for the visitors. Zimbabwe started well, they scored around 45 runs inside the Powerplay but the wicket of Gumbie created havoc as they lost 5 wickets in what, a space of 10 balls or so. However, Clive Madande and Wellington Masakadza added 75 runs which helped them get over the 100-runs mark.

TOSS - Bangladesh have won the toss and ELECTED TO BOWL!

It is time for the T20I series between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. For one, this series will be about preparing themselves for the upcoming T20I World Cup and for the other, it is about their mettle. Zimbabwe will be eager to prove point after missing out on the qualification for the mega event. It is going to be a tough task for them as they are up against Bangladesh who are good at home. Saying that, they haven't been at their best in this format recently but they would back themselves to get over the line here. Stay tuned for the toss and teams in a bit.

... MATCH DAY ...

The international cricket scene is once again buzzing with excitement as Bangladesh prepares to host Zimbabwe for a thrilling 5-match T20I series, setting the stage ablaze ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup. The action kicks off with the inaugural match at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, promising an electrifying start to what is sure to be a fiercely contested series. Zimbabwe, unfortunately, missed out on qualification for the T20 World Cup, but they will be determined to make their mark and give the Bangla Tigers a tough challenge in an attempt to disrupt their rhythm ahead of the big tournament. The Chevrons boast a formidable lineup led by the experienced Sikandar Raza, who sets the tone from the front. Supporting him are seasoned veterans such as Sean Williams, Craig Ervine, Blessing Muzarabani and Richard Ngarava, whose wealth of experience adds depth and resilience to the team. Excitingly, the squad also includes Jonathan Campell, earning his maiden international call-up, alongside the return of Tadiwanashe Marumani and Faraz Akram to the T20I fold, injecting fresh energy and talent into the lineup. With a blend of youth, players like Clive Madande and Brian Bennett round off the squad, promising a dynamic and competitive performance on the field. Meanwhile, Bangladesh, under the leadership of Najmul Hossain Shanto, presents a squad with noteworthy inclusions and alterations. Mohammad Saifuddin makes a return for the first three T20Is after his last appearance in October 2022, adding depth to the lineup. Tanzid Hasan earns his maiden T20I call-up. Additionally, the squad features left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam, dynamic all-rounder Afif Hossain and opener Parvez Hossain Emon, each bringing their own strengths to the table. However, Bangladesh will miss the services of key players Mustafizur Rahman and Shakib Al Hasan in the initial three matches. Shakib is set to rejoin the squad for the last two games, while Mustafizur will arrive back after fulfilling his commitments in the Indian T20 League. Their return will undoubtedly bolster Bangladesh's campaign for the latter part of the series. In terms of changes, Anamul Haque, Mohammad Naim, and Taijul Islam have been omitted from the squad that faced Sri Lanka recently, while Soumya Sarkar is sidelined due to a knee injury sustained during the third ODI of that series. Looking at the historical matchup between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe in T20Is, the Bangla Tigers hold the upper hand, having won 13 out of the 20 encounters, with Zimbabwe securing victory in just seven matches. With the anticipation soaring high, the stage is perfectly set for another exciting T20I series. Who do you think will clinch this one? We shall soon find out.
