Commentary

That's it from this game then! The third T20I will be played on the 7th of this month and it is a must-win for the visitors if they are to stay alive in the series. That game begins at 1430 IST (1500 GMT). Till then, goodbye and take care!

Najmul Hossain Shanto says the bowlers bowled well and with the rain and everything, he is happy with how the side player. Mentions there are a lot of areas they need to improve. Ends by saying he is happy with how the team is playing and he is looking forward for the next game.

Towhid Hridoy, PLAYER OF THE MATCH, says it wasn't easy and he just wanted to finish the game. Adds he played according to the situation. Ends by saying he enjoyed his innings.

Sikandar Raza says the youngsters were impressive and that is the reason why they're picked. Mentions they could have batted better in the first 10 and they need to find ways to tackle the new ball. Adds the rain breaks did not help, it was tough, the wicket also got better and he feels they did well to take it so deep. Ends by saying they are looking forward to the next game.

He held fort at one end and along with the support of Ali and Mahmudullah took his side over the line. Zimbabwe bowled well, Jongwe was good along with Raza and Muzarabai but it was towards the end where they gave the game away. Far too many boundary balls and that is what cost them the game. However, credit to them as they fought hard first after losing too many in the first half of their batting innings and then while defending a moderate total, they managed to drag it till the second last over.

Quite a comfortable win in the end for Bangladesh but this game was a lot more exciting than the scorecard showed. Defending a moderate total, Bangladesh were off to a sedate start. They never got going but always kept the rate needed in check. However there was a moment where they fell behind when they lost three quickly and the rain started to come down. They were behind DLS at that time. However, the scare did not last for long as the rain disappeared and then it was the Towhid Hridoy show.

Commentary

For Bangladesh, it was a tale of two halves. First 10 was all about their bowlers. The likes of Taskin and Rishad were excellent. They were all over the opposition but the second 10, they just weren't at their best. They were taken to the cleaners by the two Zimbabwe batters. However, they'll still believe they are on top and will back themselves to chase this down. Zimbabwe on the other hand, will need widkets if they are to defend this. They'll believe they have the momentum and hope they can carry forward it. Join us for the chase in a bit.

What a recovery from Zimbabwe yet again and they'll believe they have a score they can defend if they bowl well. Let me remind you, they were five down for not a lot but then walked in the stand that had given some respectability to their score. It was a superb partnership between Bennett and Campbell. The latter was dropped early but he did not look back after that. They smashed the ball to all parts of the park. Campbell fell towards the end but Bennett has taken his side close to the 140-run mark.

TOSS - Bangladesh have won the toss and ELECTED TO BOWL!

It is time for the second T20I between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. The first one was won comfortably by the hosts and we expect them to dominate the second game as well. Zimbabwe however, did have a few positives to take from the last game but there is still a lot of room for improvement. They really need their big names to step up if they are to have a chance to come out on top. Can they upset the odds or will Bangladesh make in 2-0? We will find out.

... MATCH DAY ...

The 2024 T20 World Cup is less than a month away and more and more national sides will be looking to get a few games under their belt in order to prepare for the mega event and one of them is Bangladesh who welcome Zimbabwe for a five-match T20I series and the hosts have taken a 1-0. It was a pretty dominant performance from Bangladesh in the first T20I at the very same venue in Chattogram and they will be looking to extend that lead further. Zimbabwe on the other hand will still be gutted to have missed out on a T20 World Cup berth which sees as many as 20 teams and they will feel, they should have been a part of it. The visitors have some well-known players but have somewhat underperformed in recent times in games that matter having missed out on the ODI World Cup in 2023 as well and if the first game was any indication, that pattern has continued. Their top order was a complete mess with the likes of Craig Ervine, Sean Williams and skipper Sikandar Raza contributing nothing to the runs. It looked like they would not even get close to a score of 100 runs but Clive Madande and Wellington Masakadza added 65 runs for the eighth wicket to a score of 124 runs which was still quite low but somewhat defendable. However, the bowlers misfired as well and managed to pick up just a couple of wickets in total. Bangladesh on the other hand though were as clinical as ever at home and kept up their fine record at home with a big win. Taskin Ahmed and Mohammad Saifuddin did the damage with the ball and Mahedi Hasan who was playing pretty much as a lone spinner too showed great control. However, Litton Das' slim run in recent times continued but Tanzid Hasan who is fairly new to the international scene showed great promise and then the skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy played handy knocks to gun down the target inside 16 overs. Bangladesh do have a difficult group at the World Cup and would want to be at their best if they want to make it through the next stage and hence, would want to be ruthless yet again in their approach in this particular series. Can the hosts make it two wins out of two? Or will Zimbabwe spring a surprise and level the series? Only time will tell.
