Commentary
The stage is set for England's chase! The umpires have taken to the field, followed by the West Indies players. England's innings is about to begin, with openers Jamie Smith and Ben Duckett ready to take on the West Indies bowlers. Let's see how they fare!
... The Run Chase ...
Saqib Mahmood bowled brilliantly for his three wickets but it was Adil Rashid who stole the headlines as he finished with 4 wickets in his spell. Now then, we saw the proactive approach from the English batters. They all are in fine form with the bat but we feel West Indies are more determined to prove their case. Can they level the series? Stay tuned to find out after the break.
England would have taken this score at the start of the match. However, the way they bowled in the firs game, the hosts were expected to bowl similarly but instead we saw lack of discipline from them. More interestingly we saw a slippy English team on the field as they dropped close to 3 catches and had a couple of run out chances as well. How significant that could prove to be at the end of the game? England though saved their faces by bowling well in the back end of the innings. Harry Brook kept using his front line pacers by giving them small spells throughout the game.
The thought of going big in the final few overs by West Indies have backfired as they have been bowled out for 308 with still a couple of overs to go. West Indies will be happy but will feel they have left 15-20 runs out there. West Indies were calculative throughout the innings. They lost Jewel Andrew early in the game but Brandon King and Keacy Carty joined hands to lay in a 141-run partnership. They managed to negotiate the new ball really well. Both reached their respective fifties in the process. Keacy Carty was slow initially but he paced through, left his partner back and went onto score his second ODI century against England. Hope played the second fiddle and had to anchor the innings as he lost a couple of partners more. West Indies tried their best to score the bulk of the runs in the last 10 overs but it came at a hefty price of losing a lot of wickets.
OUT! IN THE AIR AND GONE! Slower one, wide of off. Shai Hope swings early and only manages to get it away off the toe end of his bat. The ball spooned over mid off and Harry Brook made no mistake and pouched this. West Indies, batting first, have posted 308.
FOUR! Shai Hope finds the fence and that's why he turned down the single on the previous delivery. Short-pitched, wide of off. Shai Hope pulls this wide to the right of wide long on and finds the fence for four runs.
Short and wide outside off, Shai Hope punches this to deep point but denies the single on offer. Strange from Hope as Jayden Seales surely can bat and bat well as he showed in the previous game.
Short and wide outside off, Shai Hope attempts the reverse ramp but misses.
Jayden Seales is the last batter out for the visitors.

OUT! TIMBER! Adil Rashid ends his spell with another wicket. Quicker and flatter into the stumps, Alzarri Joseph goes with the ritual of swinging at everything. Misses it completely and the ball sneaks past his bat and rattles the timber.
FOUR! Streaky but WI wouldn't mind one bit. Fuller on middle and off, Alzarri Joseph goes for the slog sweep but gets an outside edge and it has gone past the left of short third for a boundary.
SIX! 300 up for Windies. Tossed up, in the hitting zone for Alzarri Joseph and he does not disappoint. Alzarri Joseph swings and deposits this over Joe Root at long on.
OUT! SAFELY POUCHED THIS TIME! Wrong'un around off, Gudakesh Motie was aiming for the slog sweep. The ball gets miscued off the cue end and has lobbed over Joe Root at long off. Joe Root runs in from the fence, settles underneath and makes no mistake this time.
DROPPED! Fourth drop of the game and we still have a little over 3 overs to go. Out of all, it was Root who dropped this. Tossed up on the pads. Shai Hope clears his front foot and slogs this. Doesn't get it away from the middle of his bat and it has travelled straight to Joe Root at long on. Root goes with hard hands at it and ends up dropping Hope.
SIX! SMASHEDDDD! Short of a length around middle and leg, Shai Hope picks up the length early and rocks back and away from the stumps. Swings and connects well. The ball has sailed over the fence and into the stands for a huge six.

FOUR! Fourth boundary off the over and Gudakesh Motie has ensured that the gamble to bowl Will Jacks doesn't work for Harry Brook. Short and on off, Gudakesh Motie rocks back and cuts this fine to the right of short third for four.
FOUR! WOAH! Motie surely can handle the willow well. Full and on middle and off, Gudakesh Motie gets down on a knee and nails the scoop over the keeper for a boundary behind the stumps.
Fired into the batter, around his pads. Gudakesh Motie looks to cut this off his back foot but is cramped for room. The ball hits him on his pads and Will Jacks appeals for LBW. The umpire is unmoved but Harry Brook sends this upstairs. The Ball Tracker suggests that this would have gone on and missed the stumps.
FOUR! Another boundary but this time a bit more conventional paddle. Tossed up on the pads, Gudakesh Motie paddles this fine and wide to the left of short fine for four more.
FOUR! That's sensational from Motie as he has played the field. Slightly short of a length on the pads, Gudakesh Motie gets down on a knee and plays this late. Paddles this perfectly beyond backward square leg for four. Saqib Mahmood was after it but he fails to keep it inside the playing area.
Floated on the pads, Gudakesh Motie tucks this to short mid-wicket for no run.

OUT! GONE! Pretty easy for Mahmood! Good length and outside off.Chase has a poke at it but toe ends his shot and the keeper does the rest. Tame attempt from Roston Chase and he has to go. Saqib Mahmood is on a hat trick...
OUT! GONE! Saqib Mahmood deserves a wicket. He has bowled well! West Indies losing wickets at the wrong time. Bowls it into the surface, short and outside off. Matthew Forde shuffles across and gets in a tangle but still swings his blade, slices it up and over mid off where Harry Brook tracks back under the sun with no glares but keeps his eyes on the ball right till the end to take it. Brilliant catch.
Starts with a bumper on middle, Matthew Forde ducks under it.

Commentary
With this win, England sealed the series 2-0. The final match of the series will be played on June 3rd at 12 pm GMT. Fans can join an hour early for match buildup and updates. Until next time, Cheers!
Harry Brook, England's captain, praised Joe Root, saying he's only getting better and is an asset to the side. He commended Will Jacks, describing him as a proper batter with a wide range of shots. Brook emphasized the importance of having depth in the batting lineup, especially with a quality batter at No. 7. He also highlighted the team's camaraderie, noting they're willing to fight for each other, which reflects in their performances. Brook ended on a high note, expressing satisfaction with winning his first series as captain.
West Indies captain Shai Hope expressed disappointment that Jewel Andrew struggled to get going, but was pleased to see the absence wasn't felt as other batters like Brandon King and Keacy Carty stepped up. Hope noted that Carty's talent had finally translated into consistency, which bodes well for the team. However, he acknowledged that his side fell short by around 30 runs. Hope praised the bowlers for their efforts, highlighting the challenge of trying to restrict the chasing team in such conditions and the importance of taking wickets.
Joe Root, the player of the match, reflected on the thrilling win, saying it was satisfying to come out on top after his team was struggling at 2 for 2. He praised the wicket, noting it was tricky at times but ultimately made for an exciting game. Root commended Alzarri Joseph's bowling, highlighting his ability to extract the most out of the surface. He also appreciated key partnerships, particularly Will Jacks' exceptional play, which helped set up the win. Root expressed his desire to continually improve, fueled by his passion for the game. He concluded by praising Harry Brook's impressive start to the series, noting his ability to perform under pressure and set his team up well even on difficult days.
Stay tuned for the presentation...
Earlier today, West Indies batted first and posted an impressive total of 308, thanks to Keacy Carty's century, Shai Hope's 78, and Brandon King's half-century. England's bowlers had a mixed performance, with Adil Rashid and Saqib Mahmood picking up 4 and 3 wickets, respectively, while others, barring Potts, chipped in with a wicket each.
West Indies' bowling wasn't quite up to par, but Alzarri Joseph was a standout performer, taking a four-wicket haul and troubling the English batters with his bodyline attack. He was a menace! Justin Greaves and Gudakesh Motie went wicketless while others chipped in with a wicket each, but it wasn't enough to make a significant impact.
The team, though, faced a setback with Harry Brook and Jos Buttler's quick dismissals, but Jacob Bethell and Root showed some resilience with a decent partnership. However, the game-changing moment came with Root and Will Jack's 143-run stand for the 6th wicket. Although the team lost a few wickets in the final stages, Root and Adil's sensible 24-run partnership for the 8th wicket sealed the win and put all doubts to rest. Root's class was on full display and he ensured that he was there to smash the winning runs for his side.
The home side's chase got off to a shaky start, losing Ben Duckett and Jamie Smith for just 2 runs. However, Harry Brook and Joe Root steadied the ship with a solid 85-run partnership, before Brook fell just 3 runs shy of a half-century. It was then up to Root to lead the charge and see England through!
England wins this by 3 wickets and 7 balls to spare. Joe Root's masterclass is the highlight, as he expertly steers England to a convincing win in the end. England's victory is well-deserved, thanks to Root's brilliance.

OUCH! That must have hurt Adil Rashid but he takes one for the team. Short-pitched, into the rib cage of Adil Rashid. Instead of going for the pull and giving something to the fielders out in the deep he decided not to throw his bat at it and gets struck on the rib cage. Brave from Adil Rashid.

However, they also know that tail-enders like Brydon Carse, Matthew Potts, and Adil Rashid can be tricky to dismiss and might just cause some trouble if they get going. The contest is heating up!

England's playing XI for the second ODI against West Indies has been announced with one change. Jamie Overton, who took 3 wickets in the first ODI, is replaced by Matthew Potts due to a broken finger.
The West Indies, on the other hand, will look to regroup and come back strong in the second ODI. They need to work on their batting approach, as they were thoroughly outplayed in the first match. The visitors will also need to tighten up their fielding and take chances in the field to get England's batters out. If the West Indies can improve in these areas, they might just give England a run for their money in the second ODI. Can they bounce back, or will England continue their dominance? The stage is set for an exciting encounter. Stay tuned for toss and team updates.
England's batting lineup was on fire in the first ODI, with its batting unit scoring big runs and breaching the 400 mark. The way they put the West Indies bowlers under pressure and exploited the field placements was impressive. England's batting depth and ability to accelerate at will will make the West Indies' task daunting in the second ODI as well. With such a strong batting performance, England will be confident of repeating the feat and sealing the series. One big boost for the English side was the way Jamie Smith settled in as an opener. Smith was going great guns before perishing and that will be one aspect the side will be keen to tick the checkbox once again.
Welcome to the second ODI of the three-match series between England and West Indies! The series is currently 1-0 in favor of England, who thrashed their opponents by 238 runs in the first ODI. That match was a masterclass display of batting, bowling, and fielding by the home side, leaving the visitors reeling.
... MATCH DAY ...
The cricket world turns its attention to Cardiff's Sophia Gardens as England and the West Indies square off in the second ODI of their captivating three-match series. England will be full of confidence after their dominating performance in the series opener, in which their formidable batting order, highlighted by a scorching innings from Jacob Bethell, attained a massive total that proved unassailable for the West Indies. Under the new captaincy of Harry Brook, England were right on the money from the word go as their batting clicked with a high-octane approach and registered a second-highest score at Edgbaston. Throughout an innings full of spectacular but unfulfilled starts, including half-centuries for Ben Duckett, Joe Root, and Harry Brook, Bethell was the leading run scorer with a blistering knock of 82(53). While talking about their bowlers, they were on song as they bundled out the West Indies for a meager 162 runs. Expect England to stick with their high-tempo batting strategy and with the same playing XI as well. For the West Indies, this game is crucial for keeping the series alive. They will be keen to demonstrate better teamwork after finding it difficult to contain England's batsmen and failing to form crucial partnerships in the chase during the first ODI. Skipper Shai Hope has to lead from the front with the bat and requires more contributions from Brandon King, Justin Graves, and, in particular, Keacy Carty, who entered this series with back-to-back centuries against Ireland but failed to convert his start in the first ODI. On the bowling front, their pacers, particularly Jayden Seales, displayed flashes of brilliance but conceded too many runs. Throughout the innings, their bowling unit will need to be more accurate and disciplined in order to demonstrate greater control. England, with their superior form and depth, will undoubtedly be the favorites to clinch the series tomorrow. However, the West Indies, with the hunger to level the series, cannot be underestimated. It promises to be a high-stakes encounter where execution under pressure will be paramount. Settle in for what promises to be a captivating ODI in Cardiff!

He also appreciated key partnerships, particularly Will Jacks' exceptional play, which helped set up the win. Root expressed his desire to continually improve, fueled by his passion for the game.
