That is it then from this game and Gujarat have now become the first team this season to defend a total on this ground. The action in the league continues on Wednesday, the 26th of April with Bangalore taking on Kolkata in Bengaluru in what will be a reverse fixture of the game which Kolkata won convincingly last time around. That game will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT) but our coverage will begin much earlier. Do join us then. Take care and goodbye!

Abhinav Manohar is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH. He says that he is lucky to be a part of this franchise as they allow them to be in the nets for as long as they want and it helps get into a good rhythm. Claims that he has been gifted with timing since he was young and it is a privilege to play at this level. Explains that he wanted to take some time to get his eye in and then go on to play his own game.

Hardik Pandya, the captain of Gujarat says that it has been their motto to take calls on the spot rather than pre-meditating and his captaincy works on instincts. Adds that he and the coach have a similar mindset and often they back their calls. Goes on to mention that they used the spinners' full quota in the middle overs as they had the ability to take wickets and didn't want to take the game deep. On Abhinav Manohar, he says that he is hitting the ball well and he has been doing so since the last year and he is currently their best batter at the death.

The Presentation ceremony...

Rashid Khan is down for a chat. He says that he is working on a few things like his line and length. Mentions that he is happy with the wickets but still needs to work on a few things as the ball is not going where he wants. Adds that he is happy with what he has done so far and is looking forward to the second half of the tournament. Explains that it is about hitting the right areas and that makes it difficult for the batters so he wanted to do that. Informs that it is great to have Noor Ahmad in the side and they played U19 together. Claims that the kid wants to learn and has worked really hard. Goes on to say that he keeps asking questions and always wants to get better so he is happy he got his opportunity and he is doing well which helps Gujarat and also Afghanistan.

Rohit Sharma, the captain of Mumbai says that it is really disappointing as they had control till the 15th over but in the last few overs, they went for too many runs. Explains that it is about execution and they need to see what they deliver on different pitches and different batters which they didn’t do. Mentions that all teams have their different strengths and they know they have a good batting lineup so they backed themselves to chase down the target. Adds that they could not get going as they struggled in the start and there is dew so if they had started well, anything could have happened. Explains that losing wickets early is not good when chasing 200 plus and they needed to bat responsibly. Ends by saying that in the last seven overs, they didn’t have enough batters to achieve the target.

Earlier in the game, Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to field first and this turned out to be a good decision as Arjun Tendulkar got rid of Wriddhiman Saha early. A couple of Gujarat batters then came in, got starts and got out but Shubman Gill stayed on and brought up a lovely half-century. David Miller and Abhinav Manohar though went through the gears in the second half of the innings and got maximums at will with Rahul Tewatia coming in at the death and proving to be the icing on the cake. For Mumbai, Tendulkar bowled well up front and so did Jason Behrendorff but the Aussie pair of Cameron Green and Riley Meredith conceded plenty of runs. Piyush Chawla picked up a couple of wickets as well but overall, they once again conceded 200-plus runs. Coming to the chase, Gujarat bossed it with the ball from start to finish and made short work of the Mumbai batting lineup.

Mumbai were under the pump from the very first ball and simply couldn't cope with it. Rohit Sharma fell early after which Ishan Kishan went hard and couldn't time pretty much anything. Cameron Green also came out swinging but did get away a few boundaries and looked good but a bunch of wickets fell in the middle phase. Suryakumar Yadav also played a couple of flamboyant shots but fell to the spinners and towards the end it was a 45-run stand between young Nehal Wadhera and Piyush Chawla that got Mumbai to a decent total. Still, they fell short by over 50 runs and will look to bounce back after successive defeats.

With a daunting total on the board, Gujarat made sure they made the best use of the new ball, and skipper Hardik Pandya along with Mohammad Shami swung the ball to perfection. Pandya got an early wicket after which the spin duo of Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad wreaked havoc in the middle overs. The maestro Rashid was economical as well and picked up a couple of wickets with Noor picking up three big wickets as well. The second string of pacers did get a bit of stick in the later part of the innings but Mohit Sharma closed out the game well with a couple of wickets.

Pretty much a cakewalk of a victory in the end for Gujarat and they now get their fifth win of the season and go level on points with Chennai at the top of the table. As for Mumbai, they slump to back-to-back defeats and stay in the lower half of the points table.

Commentary

We are back for the second essay as the umpires make their way out to the middle. The Gujarat players form a huddle at the boundary line before dispersing onto the field and taking their respective fielding positions. Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma stride out to the center to open the innings for Mumbai and they need a solid start here. Gujarat have used their Impact Player option as Shubman Gill does not take the field and Joshua Little comes into the side. Mohammad Shami has the new ball in his hand and will begin proceedings. Let's go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Right then, Mumbai have the batting order to be able to overcome this target but will need a good start from their openers. This pitch has been great for teams that have been chasing and the visitors will take confidence from that fact as they look to register an important win. Gujarat have a formidable bowling attack and with the home crowd behind them, they will feel confident of defending the total they have put up on the board. Will they get back-to-back wins? Or will the visitors return to winning ways? We will find out shortly as we return for the run chase.

Abhinav Manohar will share a few words. He says that he went in after a few wickets fell and he was told to carry on for three overs and then go hard and that's what David Miller and he tried to do. Adds that there was an effort from the batters in the middle overs to get more runs and they tried to take on the likes of Piyush Chawla. Mentions that the first 6 overs are very important and is hopeful that the bowlers will defend the total.

Gujarat did not get off to the best of starts losing Wriddhiman Saha on a low score but his partner Shubman Gill continued to attack the bowlers. Hardik Pandya hung around for a bit but was dismissed as he looked to accelerate the scoring. Shubman Gill reached a well-constructed half-century but perished soon after and Vijay Shankar followed him back to the shed playing a loose shot. Abhinav Manohar and David Miller got together to put on a 71-run partnership in 35 deliveries as they provided the much-needed impetus towards the end of the inning. The former departed after scoring 41 in 21 deliveries while Miller fell four runs short of his fifty but did the necessary damage with Rahul Tewatia towards the end. The two hitters for the host took them beyond the 200-run mark and they will be silently confident of their chances in this game.

David Miller and Rahul Tewatia have shown why they are the best finishers in the Indian T20 League! Gujarat have finished strong as they put on 70 runs in the last four overs and have 207 runs on the board which they will be mightly pleased with. Mumbai's death bowling woes continued as they were unable to wrap up the good effort they put in for the first 16 overs. Arjun Tendulkar and Jason Behrendorff bowled with discipline with the former drawing first blood. The spinners controlled the middle overs well with Piyush Chawla taking two crucial wickets and Kumar Kartikeya dismissing the dangerous-looking Shubman Gill. Cameron Green had an off day as he conceded 39 runs in two overs while Riley Meredith and Jason Behrendorff also went for plenty in their last overs despite taking one wicket each.

A couple of runs to end then! Jason Behrendorff bangs this one in over middle and leg and gets it at a good height as well. Rashid Khan goes after it and pulls it aerially toward deep mid-wicket. There's no timing on it and the fielder comes racing in from the deep. The ball falls well short but the fielder manages to get his hands behind it as the batters get across for a brace. Gujarat finish with a mammoth total of 207/6 on the board!

Rashid Khan will face the last delivery.

19.5W

OUT! TAKEN! High, high but not long enough! Another knuckleball from Jason Behrendorff and he bowls this one at just 107 clicks and around off stump. David Miller has to go for it but is way too early into his swing across the line. The ball comes up off the splice of the bat and goes a mile up in the air, over the mid-wicket region. Suryakumar Yadav comes in a long way from the deep and settles under it to take a solid catch. Miller departs after a fiery knock.

19.40

Swing and a miss! Another slower one, on a length and around off stump. It is in the slot a bit and David Miller swings hard across the line only to be beaten by the lack of pace.

19.31

A slower bumper around off, Rahul Tewatia looks to take it on but rolls his left ankle. Tewatia manages to half-pull it through square leg for a single.

19.26

SIX! This is unbelievable batting from Rahul Tewatia and the 200 is up for Gujarat. Back of a length and outside off, Tewatia reads the line and length and shuffles across before getting inside the line and pulling it over the fine leg fence for another maximum.

19.16

SIX! Flat-batted! Jason Behrendorff serves a full toss well outside off, Rahul Tewatia gets across and clobbers it baseball-style over the cow corner fence for a biggie.

19.11wd

WIDE! Too wide for the umpire's liking but Mumbai have reviewed it. Slower one, full and pushed down the leg side. Rahul Tewatia shuffles across a bit and misses the sweep. The UltraEdge shows nothing and it will stay a wide.

Jason Behrendorff will be given the responsibility of bowling the final over.

SIX! Colossal hit from David Miller and that's just adding insult to injury. Riley Meredith looks for the wide yorker but misses his mark and Miller gets under the ball to smoke it a long way back over the wide long off fence for a biggie.

18.56

SPILLED AND SIX! Jason Behrendorff makes a real mess of that one and gifts David Miller six runs. Riley Meredith bangs this one in, a bit slower and outside off. Miller looks to take it on but has to generate all the pace and forces the pull shot high toward wide long on. Jason Behrendorff there takes the catch close to the ropes but ends up fumbling it over the ropes for a maximum. How costly will this miss be?

18.40

Too cute from David Miller! Slower one, a touch fuller and angled across the off stump. Miller waits for it and looks to steer it fine but is beaten for the lack of pace.

18.31

A low full toss this, outside off, Rahul Tewatia reaches out and crunches it down to long off for a single.

18.26

SIX! Wow, Rahul Tewatia gets straight into the attack with a trademark shot. This is pitched up and angled well across the off stump. Tewatia shuffles across and laps Riley Meredith over the backward square leg fence for a maximum.

Rahul Tewatia makes his way out to the middle.

18.1W

OUT! CAUGHT! Riley Meredith gets rid of Abhinav Manohar and Mumbai breathe a sigh of relief! Angles in a full toss into the pads and it is there to be put away leg side. Manohar though backs away a bit and tries to lift it against the angle over extra cover. Ends up slicing it high toward wide long off where Jason Behrendorff runs around to his left and takes it reverse-cup style. Manohar departs after a blistering knock.

SIX! Make that 22 runs off the over and Gujarat now have a chance to score above 200 runs. Good length around middle and leg, David Miller walks towards the ball and forces it over the long on fence for a third maximum in the over.

17.52

Gets it in the blockhole around the toes, David Miller manages to clip it away through square leg and sprints back for a couple of runs. 16 off the over with one ball to go.

17.41

Gets it full enough this time and bowls it outside off, Abhinav Manohar slices it down toward third man for a single.

17.36

SIX! Up and over! Overpitched outside off, Abhinav Manohar clears the front leg and thumps it flat and hard over the long off fence to make it back-to-back maximums. Excellent hitting.

17.26

SIX! BOOM! Back to over the wicket now and on a good length, angling in. Abhinav Manohar frees his arms and tees off across the line to muscle it over the mid-wicket fence for a biggie.

17.11

In the air...safe! Cameron Green comes from around the wicket and bangs it in over the stumps. David Miller steps out and goes after it but gets a top edge that lands safely around the square leg region. A single is taken.

Strategic break! Mumbai have made an absolute mess of this run chase and with just four wickets left, they are staring at an almost certain defeat.
