Commentary

Right then the Kiwis stretch the lead to 4-0 against a toothless Pakistan side. The 5th and final game of the 5-match T20I series will be played on 21st January. The game will be live from 5.30 am IST (12 am GMT) but you can join us an hour early for the build-up. Till then cheers!

Daryl Mitchell is adjudged the player of the match for his brilliant knock of 72 runs.

Earlier in the day, after being put in to bat first the Pakistan innings started on a low again as they lost Saim Ayub in the second over of the game. Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan added 51 off 31 for the 2nd wicket partnership. The batters found it difficult to get boundaries but managed to rotate strikes frequently. The Pakistan innings was in a sorry situation but a late surge from Mohammad Nawaz and Mohammad Rizwan for the 6th wicket partnership adding 32 off the last 17 helped them post a fighting total. Mohammad Rizwan was the best batter for the visitors as he smashed 90 off 60 deliveries. Mohammad Nawaz played a good cameo right at the end with 21 runs off 9 deliveries as well. The Kiwi bowlers were spot one with line and lengths. Lockie Ferguson and Matt Henry picked up a couple while Adam Milne took a wicket as well.

The Pakistani bowlers did start well but lost their way in the middle. The fielder let them down as well with poor fielding efforts. The skipper Shaheen Afridi took 3 in his first spell and that was it for the wickets column of the Pakistani bowlers. The side needs to think about its toothless bowling attack as that's been the reason for their demise in all the games played so far.

Chasing down a decent total, The Kiwi innings started on a low with Shaheen Afridi picking up a couple in the very first over. Finn Allen, Tim Seifert, and Will Young departed in a jiffy as the hosts were 3 down for 20 inside 3 overs. Glenn Phillips and Daryl Mitchell then built up a solid partnership by striking each ball on its merit and they were aided by the Pakistani fielder who were poor in the field. The duo added 139 runs for the third wicket partnership off just 93 deliveries. Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips remained unbeaten with scores of 72 and 70 respectively.

Afer being 20 for 3, the kiwis get over the line yet again, thanks to a brilliant third-wicket partnership between Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips. The hosts have defeated Pakistan by 7 wickets as they go 4-0 up in the 5-match T20I series.

Commentary

We are back with the chase. It will be Finn Allen and Tim Seifert to open the innings for New Zealand while Shaheen Afridi will bowl the first over for Pakistan.

... RUN CHASE ...

The bowlers did well and managed to keep Pakistan in check. The bowlers kept on taking wickets at regular intervals and did not give any loose deliveries. The middle phase of the game was dominated by the bowlers who did not leak away boundaries and kept the Pakistani batter on their toes. Lockie Ferguson and Matt Henry took a couple each while Adam Milne took one as well. Mitchell Santner went wicketless but was once again exceptional with the boundaries not big enough. New Zealand have been fantastic in the batting department this series and they will want to chase down this target maintaining their winning streak as well.

Pakistan were off to a shaky start as they lost Saim Ayub early on in the innings. After that, Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam put up a stable partnership to end the Powerplay on a strong note. Babar Azam was the next to depart and for the first time in this series, he failed to score a half-century. Fakhar Zaman, the new batter seemed to be struggling to get his timing right and soon lost his wicket as well followed by the quick dismissal of Sahibzada Farhan as well. Iftikhar Ahmed tried to stabilize the innings but he too couldn't get his rhythm going. Mohammad Rizwan was the only batter to find the boundaries for a long period before Mohammad Nawaz took apart Adam Milne and supported his partner. They ended their innings putting 158 on the board. The target doesn't look that big with the hosts in a good batting form but this surface offers a lot to the pacers with its pace and bounce which might assist their pacers.

A strong innings from Mohammad Rizwan and an explosive cameo from Mohammad Nawaz make sure Pakistan goes over 150 on the scoreboard. However, the New Zealand bowling should be appreciated for bowling tight lines and length along with being brilliant with the field placements.

Skipper of Pakistan Shaheen Afridi says he is happy with the outcome of the toss as they were looking to bat first today. Adds that the boys have been trying their best but ending up on the wrong side but they will put out their best effort again. Admits that there are plenty of areas they need to work on and improve as a unit. Informs they have one change as Sahibzada Farhan replaces Azam Khan.

Skipper of New Zealand, Mitchell Santner says they will bowl first as the pitch seems to have some moisture on it and they look to exploit it. Adds that the side has adapted well so far and it felt good to score big in the previous games and then defend those scores. Informs that Devon Conway misses out and Will Young replaces him also Adam Milne replaces Ish Sodhi.

New Zealand (Playing XI) - Finn Allen, Tim Seifert (WK), Will Young (In for Devon Conway), Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, Mitchell Santner (C), Adam Milne (In for Ish Sodhi), Matt Henry, Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson.

Pakistan (Playing XI) - Mohammad Rizwan (WK), Saim Ayub, Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Sahibzada Farhan (In for Azam Khan), Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, Shaheen Afridi (C), Mohammad Wasim, Haris Rauf, Zaman Khan.

TOSS - The captains are out in the middle. The coin is flipped into the air and lands in favor of New Zealand. They have elected to BOWL first.

New Zealand on the other hand have been very dominant and comfortable in their home conditions. Throughout the series, they haven't let the opponents be on the strong foot. Finn Allen has shown his skill at the top and the intent to attack every bowler has allowed him to achieve a brilliant century. The other batters need to pull up their socks and play a bit more freely now that the series is won. They have been the first ones to bat in every game and they are yet to win a game chasing the target. After Kane Williamson's injury, Mitchell Santner took up captaincy and he will aim to whitewash their opponents and keep exerting their dominance. The viewers will get to see a lot of action in this format of the game because the T20I World Cup is arriving later this year and every team will want to start their preparations as early as possible. Devon Conway has been replaced by Chad Bowes as Conway has tested positive for COVID along with their bowling coach, Andre Adams. This game will be exciting and even though the series is decided, entertainment will not be left out. Toss and team news to follow.

Pakistan have been very poor in away conditions and have continued their run here in New Zealand. Haris Rauf and Shaheen Afridi, two of their most prestigious bowlers are going for plenty of runs. The other bowlers have failed to take wickets at crucial times throughout the series. The batting unit isn't consistent as well. The openers have failed to continue their strong starts. Babar Azam is the only batter to be consistent in the first three games scoring half-centuries. The others down the order have failed to support him and are looking out of touch. Shaheen Afridi, the new T20I skipper, has a lot of work to do on this team and they will have to discuss many things if they want to prevent a whitewash and win the remaining two games.

Hello and a very warm welcome folks. We are at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch for the 4th T20I to be played between New Zealand and Pakistan. This match can now be called just a formality because the hosts, New Zealand have already sealed the series by winning the first 3 matches of the 5-match T20I series.

... MATCH DAY ...

The thrilling cricket action continues as New Zealand gears up to face Pakistan in the 4th T20I at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. Having already secured the series with emphatic victories, the Kiwis aim for a whitewash, while the visitors looks to salvage pride by clinching the last two games. The third T20I was undeniably Finn Allen's showcase, as he smashed a sensational hundred, breaking Brendon McCullum's record for the highest individual score for New Zealand in T20Is. Allen also equaled the record for the most sixes in an innings in this format with 16 maximums. While Allen stole the limelight, his opening partner Devon Conway has been facing a rough patch and will be eager to regain form. Despite losing Kane Williamson to injury, the Kiwis have seen a seamless transition with Tim Seifert performing admirably in his absence. Daryl Mitchell, a standout player across all formats in recent times, adds depth to their lineup, complemented by hard-hitting Glenn Phillips and Mark Chapman, further fortifying the batting order. The return of Lockie Ferguson in the last game bolstered the Kiwi pace attack, with Tim Southee and Matt Henry maintaining their good form with the ball. Mitchell Santner, the skipper, handles the spin department alongside Ish Sodhi. Having already sealed the series, the hosts may opt to rest a few players, showcasing the depth with quality players like Will Young, Ben Sears, and Adam Milne on the bench. On the flip side, Pakistan finds themselves outplayed in all three encounters. Their bowling unit has struggled, consistently conceding imposing targets, and their batting lineup has faltered in chasing them down. The lone bright spot has been Babar Azam, consistently scoring three fifties without substantial support from the rest. Saim Ayub and Mohammad Rizwan have shown glimpses of quality at the top, while the middle order, featuring Fakhar Zaman, Iftikhar Ahmed, and the newcomer Azam Khan, adds firepower but lacks consistency. In the last match, Haris Rauf had a forgettable performance, and captain Shaheen Afridi needs to shoulder more responsibility in providing breakthroughs. Zaman Khan, a promising addition to their pace arsenal, requires guidance, and Mohammad Wasim is yet to make a significant impact in this series. Mohammad Nawaz may get the nod over Usama Mir again due to his batting abilities down the order in addition to his bowling. Pakistan, having lost seven of their last eight T20Is, is in dire need of a turnaround, especially with the T20 World Cup looming. Can the Men in Green muster the strength to claim victory and alter their recent fortunes? Or will the BlackCaps make it four wins in a row? We will find out soon.
