The ball holds up in the air for quite a while but Rachin Ravindra does well to come in, settle under it and pouch it safely. Hope departs for 37 and he was starting to look good as well.

Drinks break! This has been a watchful chase so far from West Indies and for a team that bats so deep, one would think they would take a few more risks up top. However, the set batters have thrown their wickets away and a lot rests on the shoulders of skipper Shai Hope and the southpaw Sherfane Rutherford to give them a platform from where they can launch. Having said that, the Kiwi bowlers have been immaculate with their lines and lengths and have hardly given away bad balls. 163 needed off 114 balls and with the Windies firepower waiting in the shed, this could still go down to the wire. However, they will be hoping to get another breakthrough as they already sense the danger of this partnership.

PITCH REPORT - Frankie McKay is pitchside with her insights. She says there is a slight grass cover on the track, giving it a papery feel, indicating it will have some bounce. She continues that 307 is the winning average here, but what makes this venue interesting is the dimension. It's 80 meters down the ground, 75 meters at the leg side of a right-hander, but 85 on the off side. ENds up saying that batters need to be tactful to scoop some boundaries.

Mitchell Santner, skipper of New Zealand,  says that it seems like a balance wicket and they will try to put up big score. Continues that they are aware with the conditions of the pitch but he reckons that the strong wind will be a crucial factor in the match. Ends up saying that they have got four seamers once again in the playing XI and three changes in the starting line up.

Shai Hope, the skipper of West Indies, says that they see some advantage in the conditions, possibly with the new ball. Shai emphasizes the importance of assessing conditions in New Zealand and exploiting them to their favor. With World Cup qualification on the line, every win counts for them. The new opener, John Campbell, and debutant Shamar Springer add fresh energy to the team. Their predominantly seam-heavy lineup, with only one spinner in Chase, indicates they might be looking to utilize the pace and conditions to maximum effect.

New Zealand may have just wrapped up a T20I series win, but ODI cricket is an entirely different creature. Fortunately for them, they’ve been a seriously consistent outfit in this very format. A Champions Trophy final berth, a 3-0 sweep of Pakistan at home, plus a tri-series win in Pakistan - the Kiwis have built a quiet, steady rhythm in ODIs. The challenge? Injuries. A lot of them. Big names are missing from both batting and bowling. And then there’s Kane Williamson, who’s retired from T20Is, skipping the ODIs, saving every ounce of focus for the Test series ahead. In his absence, the calm, calculating Mitchell Santner leads a unit that, on paper, still looks balanced enough to trouble any side. A lot will rest on two of their most consistent performers with the bat - Mark Chapman and Daryl Mitchell. Chapman walks into this series in the kind of form that gives any dressing room a bit of comfort, with three fifty-plus knocks and a century in his last five innings. And alongside him is the ever-reliable Daryl Mitchell, New Zealand’s leading run-scorer in this format this calendar year, stacking up 642 runs with the sort of assurance that has become his trademark. Together, they form the backbone the hosts will lean on when things get tight. And bowling-wise, Matt Henry and Jacob Duffy have been their best bowlers this year, and lead the power-packed pace quintet, with Blair Tickner joining the squad after a very successful stint against England. Santner and Bracewell are the only reliable spin-bowling options who are well-equipped with batting skills, which provides enough depth in both departments. Across the field, ODI cricket has been the format where West Indies have struggled to find their footing in recent years. The talent is there, no one questions that, but consistency has been the missing ingredient. This will be their fifth ODI series of the year, and they have managed to win only one so far, against Pakistan, while their most recent assignment in the subcontinent ended in a stinging 2-1 loss to Bangladesh. They may not be stacking up wins yet, but there is a sense that West Indies are quietly piecing together a side that could find its footing sooner rather than later, provided they finally solve their jigsaw of combinations. Keacy Carty and skipper Shai Hope have been the pillars of their batting this year, both crossing the 500-run mark, but the drop-off after them is where the alarm bells ring. Whether it’s too much chopping and changing or simply a lack of consistent returns from the rest, the middle order has often been left exposed. That is why Alick Athanaze and Justin Greaves will be crucial in giving this line-up the stability it desperately needs. And when it comes to power-hitting, they do have the firepower. Sherfane Rutherford brings the flair, and Romario Shepherd can clear large distances without breaking a sweat. With only a couple of spin options, including Roston Chase, the weight of the bowling responsibility falls on the pace unit.
