That was quick. The players are back on the field. Matthew Forde has the first new ball in his hand. The two openers are Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra. Conway to face. Here we go!
... THE RUN CHASE ...
On any deck, adaptation is the key. The hosts struggled for a bit early on but once they found their rhythm, they kept honing in on the right areas time and again. Matt Henry was the pick of the bowlers in termsof numbers, picking up 4/43 but everyone bowled well in general. The second innings is scheduled to begin at 4.25 am GMT. We will be back by then. In the meanwhile, you can challenge yourselves to take a world tour from Australia to Bangladesh and then India, and try and follow the action from all the three Tests. Enjoy!
It is not as if the Windies did not try to hang in there. They tried different tactics, moving their feet, counterattacking, playing off some balls, but just could not muster enough skill to bat long on this surface. Roston Chase was the only one who batted for more than 50 balls, hanging in there for 80 minutes, before he ran out of partners. He was the only one to get past 30 in a scorecard where 5 of the top 6 made between 16 and 38.
Ironically, the start was pretty decent from the visitors. John Campbell and Ackeem Auguste got their team off to a good tempo, reaching 31 inside the 5th over. However, that was more because of the new-ball bowlers struggling to control the movement and swing. Once the first wicket fell in the form of Auguste, it just seemed to open the floodgates.
82 balls left unused. That's the big message for West Indies as they inspect their batting no show. The pitch was a difficult one to bat on, no doubt and the swinging balls made it all the more difficult. Still, when you look at the scorecard, you see as many as 5 batters get a start but then not convert those.
OUT! CAUGHT! Terrific work from Mitchell Santner but that is a disappointing shot from Jayden Seales. New Zealand were playing with his patience and he has fallen into the trap. A short ball, around off, angling away, Seales backs away and looks to go over the off side. Slices this in the air but still seems to have gotten enough to clear cover. However, Santner runs back from the ring and nearly reaches the ropes following the ball, taking a wonderful catch. Henry finishes with a 4-fer and WEST INDIES ARE BOWLED OUT FOR 161!
A short ball, outside off, Khary Pierre slaps the pull down to long on for a single.

Banged in short again, outside off, Pierre pulls it towards deep mid-wicket for a single.
A short ball, around leg stump, left alone.
SIX! Terrific hit. Full, on middle and leg, Khary Pierre comes forward and lofts it straight back down the ground, clearing long on with ease!

The bouncer now, around middle and leg, Khary swivels for the pull but is early into the shot. Gets it off the top edge towards fine leg. Single taken.
Full, around middle and leg, Pierre comes down the track and swings hard, but gets it off the inner half of the bat towards short mid-wicket.

Commentary
A 3-0 whitewash does not quite serve justice to the way West Indies have played in this tour. One bad match does not make them a bad team but sadly, people view only the results and the scorecard says another drubbing. Personally though, every player will feel confident going into the future in this format but the threat of possibly missing out the cut for the next ODI World Cup still looms large. But that is for later. For now, they will need to take confidence from the way they played against the previous World Test Championship finalists at home a few months back and hope to channel their fire again for this Test series. A few of the players would be around from the limited overs contests, so it would be a good bunch. As far as the Kiwis are concerned, their big summer just does not cease to end. Australia came and went, England came and went, they are playing West Indies now and after that, they take on India and South Africa. But these three Tests would be the last of their home season with the red ball and their first of this WTC cycle. So they would look to take all the momentum from the white-ball series and end the Test series on a good note. The first Test kicks off on Tuesday, 2nd December, 2025, so there is plenty of time left. We take your leave for now, but do remember that there is just a lot of cricket being played even as we type. Australia. Bangladesh. India. UAE. These are the countries hosting them. Just keep flipping the scorecards and keep munching the numbers. Until next time, ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
The victorious skipper of New Zealand, MITCHELL SANTNER, on being asked about the team finding ways to win, agrees and details that throughout the T20Is as well, there were a few close games. Calls it pleasing to come out on the right side and believes that it was a great series for his bowlers. On the talk of plans behind the scenes with the bowlers, Santner says that there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes and a lot of guys change roles as well. Gives the example of Jacob Duffy, who took the new ball sometimes, and sometimes the old, adding that the most pleasing thing was everyone gelled perfectly to every role given to the individual. In this win, Mitchell calls the way Bracewell and Chapman showed intent as terrific. Explains that it was a good wicket but the way the two played, they made it look a flat deck. Ends by saying that different players stepping up in different matches does make a fair deal for a good future of New Zealand cricket.
The captain of West Indies, SHAI HOPE, says that once again the unit didn't click with the bat and couldn't adapt to the conditions soon enough after opting to bat first. Adds that it is about trying to be better every single day and even though this pitch was more like the pitches they play on back home, the application wasn't there with the bat. Goes on to applaud the bowlers who put on a fight and feels like they have a lot of positives to take with them. Adds that a lot of teams that come to New Zealand find themselves on the losing side and unfortunately, they had their moments throughout the white-ball series, where they could have got the better of the hosts but didn't step up at key moments.
New Zealand's KYLE JAMIESON HAS BEEN ADJUDGED THE PLAYER OF THE SERIES, for taking 7 wickets at an average of 20. On being asked about how does it feel to be playing a full series, Jamieson says that it feels really great, building on every game this summer. Adds that as a unit, the Kiwis have done a really good job in this series, setting the tone. On the challenge of playing the Test series as well, Kyle is actually looking forward to it, stressing that it felt nice to play 3 ODIs in a week and to get some miles in the legs. Adds that it is also nice to get some time off and then get back to work in the Tests. On the different set of plans for different games, KJ says that is something the unit did quite well this summer, which helped the players a lot. Gives an example, talking about who will take the new ball and all, communicating clearly and different stuff. Overall, he says that it was a great series for the bowling unit. On how his body is coping up with the workload after injury, Kyle Jamieson says that he is just trying to stack games up to get consistency. Otherwise, he says that it is business as usual to try and get across the line. Ends by saying that it feels great to get the body able to play back-to-back games.
New Zealand's MATT HENRY HAS BEEN ADJUDGED THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH, for his 4/43 with the ball in the first innings. Henry says that the team has been playing some really good cricket and they have done the right stuff in key moments, with so many individuals stepping up in different games. Reckons that the surface for this match was on the slower side but given that the ground is a bit on the shorter side, the pressure is on the bowling side to take wickets, which they did well. On the upcoming Test matches, Matt says that he is excited to get back to the red-ball format and looking forward to it.
... THE PRESENTATION ...
Earlier in the game, Matt Henry led the way for the home side, adapting to the surface nicely after a sluggish start, reckoning that he has truly become the leader of the Kiwi pace attack. He bowled with fire while the others revolved around him. It was another team performance and the Kiwis would be happy with the way their future is stacked and ready to move on from the Boult-Southee era. Please stay tuned for the presentation ...
A bit of a test for the home side as well. They started off cautiously, before Ravindra tried to make this into a T20 contest. However, that led to some casual shots and they will believe that the batters could have done much better. The middle order did bail them out but had the opposition had maybe one more strike bowler this could have gone down to the wire as well. Full marks to Mark Chapman who continued his good form, getting his 4th 50-plus score in his last 5 ODI innings while Michael Bracewell was the one who nipped the chase in the bud.
A sad way to close out the white-ball leg of the tour for the Windies. They showed a lot of promise in the T20Is and even in the first 2 ODIs, but come the third, they were simply blown away. On a pitch which required application, their batters could muster only 161 and with the ball, though they started well, their backup bowlers could not provide the assistance to the new-ball bowlers. It was Jayden Seales who set the tone initially, followed nicely by Matthew Forde. The duo caused some ripples at the start, reducing the Kiwis to 32/3. But once they went off the attack, the boil cooled down.
The scoreboard will tell that it was an easy win for New Zealand, which it was in the end, but West Indies did push them a lot further than expected in the field. It was one scintillating stand between Mark Chapman and Michael Bracewell that really took the game away from the Windies and eventually, the visitors never had enough runs on the board to allow one such stand to foster.
That's it. Zakary Foulkes plays a cheeky shot to get his side over the line and New Zealand have swept West Indies away 3-0 in this ODI series. Flighted ball on off and middle, Foulkes lunges across and gets inside the line and laps it down to fine leg or a couple of runs. New Zealand win by 4 wickets!
Dropped short and wide outside off, this is cut away to deep point for a single.
Tossed up on leg stump, Michael Bracewell leans on and clips it away wide of deep mid-wicket. The call is for two and the batters make it with ease.

Play and a miss! Fuller in length and outside off, inviting the drive. Zakary Foulkes goes for the expansive cover drive but the ball just nips away past the outside edge.
Banged in on a hard length and around off, Zak gets right behind the line to block.
Good-length delivery, wide outside off and seaming away. Zakary Foulkes walks across and has a feel for it but gets beaten on the outside edge.
Banged in short and over the stumps, Foulkes gets inside the line and leaves it alone.
Wide! A gentle-paced bumper, dug in well short around off and sails over Foulkes' head.
Zakary Foulkes is in at number 8, replacing Mitchell Santner.
OUT! CAUGHT! Another one bites the dust and that's another sharp catch from the Windies. Shamar Springer serves a full ball on off stump and angles it in. Mitchell Santner hangs deep in the crease and looks to swat it across the line but loses his shape and miscues it flat to mid-wicket. Roston Chase moves swiftly and low to his left and pouches it safely. West Indies aren't going away without a fight but they are running out of runs to defend as well.
Back of a length and around off, Mitchell Santner presses back on his toes and punches it to the right of backward point but can't get it through.

Just a bit of air and floated full on middle, Bracewell backs away and drives it to cover.

FOUR! Mitchell Santner is in such a purple patch with the bat and the hosts are now 8 runs away from the target. Hard length, in and around off, not a bad ball by any means but Santner just stands tall and punches it sweetly through covers for another boundary.
Wide! Seales comes around the wicket and bangs it in halfway down the track over off and middle. Santner backs away to cut but the ball sails over his head. The 150 is up for New Zealand as well.
FOUR! That's been carted away. Full and wide outside off, too much width on offer. Mitchell Santner reaches out and smashes the drive square through covers and picks up four runs.
Another bumper, this time over leg stump and Mitchell Santner does well again to duck under it.
Oh, that's a good ball from Seales. A well-directed bumper over middle and leg, zipping through and Santner is a bit late to duck under it.
On a good length, darting away from leg to off, Mitchell Santner gets behind the line and makes the block.
The skipper Mitchell Santner walks in next, at number 7, replacing Mark Chapman.
OUT! CAUGHT! Well, Chapman won't be around till the end. A short ball, outside off, Chapman leaps and looks to play the upper cut but still, it is too high for him to play that. His both feet are in the air when he connects with the ball and it flies off the top portion of the blade. Khary Pierre is waiting patiently at the point boundary and pouches it. End of a fine knock of 64 (63) from Chapman and the Kiwis are 145/5, just 17 away from inflicting a 3-0 whitewash.

On middle and leg, nudged to the leg side.
SIX! 4TH ODI HALF CENTURY FOR CHAPMAN!What a way to bring it up. A short ball, down the leg side, Chapman gets outside the line and swings it way over fine leg! 4th 50-plus score for him in his last 5 ODI innings.
FOUR! SLAP! A length ball, outside off, Mark Chapman dances down the track and hammers this straight back past the bowler, to the fence behind. The stand moves to 60 (42).

FOUR! Fine way to end the over! A bit short of full, around middle and leg, Bracewell whips it through mid-wicket and finds the gap and the boundary.
Another short ball, another pull. This time the connection is clean. West Indies are teasing him, but Chapman is not backing away. This is pulled beautifully but straight to Matthew Forde at deep backward square leg. He fumbles but then recovers quickly to stop the ball touching the ropes and returns the throw. Just the single then. Hang on. The umpires have sent this upstairs. On the replay, it seems as if Forde's right foot is touching the ropes when he is touching the ball! The third umpire, Kumar Dharmasena, has a long look but eventually rules it in favour of the fielder. Just a single then.
Full, outside off, Bracewell looks to drive but the ball moves away and gets sliced behind point. A run taken.
Another short ball and another top edge. Chapman cannot resist his hooking and gets away with one again. The top edge does not carry to deep backward square leg. Single taken to bring up the 50-RUN STAND IN 38 BALLS.
On a length, around middle, angling away, Michael Bracewell gets on top of the bounce and rides it down to deep third for a run.
A short ball, down the leg side, Mark Chapman goes for the hook but is beaten by the extra bounce. Gets pinged on the gloves and the ball lobs behind square leg, but lands in no man's land. Single taken.
39/0 in the last 5 overs. Just the kind of impetus West Indies missed when they were batting. The Kiwis too were slipping away a little but this enterprising stand has doused any chances of a close game. Jayden Seales is back on. 6-0-17-1 so far.

Down the leg side, Chapman misses his flick. There is a noise as the ball goes past and the keeper makes a mock appeal but then smiles. 10 from the over, believe it or not, just the second in this chase, with the first one coming in the 5th over which went for 12!
Full, outside off, punched towards sweeper cover for a single.
MISFIELD, FOUR! The sloppiness is just spreading now, for the Windies. On a length, around off, coming in with the angle, Michael Bracewell offers the straightest of bats to punch it down the ground. Superb shot. No doubt about that. But did it deserve a boundary? Yes and no. Yes for the shot. No for the angle. The ball went straight back to the bowler who just had to move to his left, a bit against his followthrough, since he is coming around the wicket. But he lazily tries to stop it with his left hand and the ball just whizzes past. 100 UP FOR NEW ZEALAND. Seem to be speeding towards their destination now. This stand moves to 31 (21).
Similar ball, this time Mark gets a single for his punchy drive.
FOUR! MAJESTIC! Another lean, another drive, followed by another dive, but this time, the ball goes through. Overpitched, outside off, Chapman comes forward and exhibits a picture perfect cover drive. Mid off dives full stretch to his right but the ball sneaks past. 66 more needed from 166 balls.
Full, outside off, Mark Chapman leans and drives it through the covers but short cover dives to his right and stops the ball.

FOUR! That deserved to be put away. Short and wide outside off, Michael Bracewell has enough time to rock back and he cuts it hard through cover-point for a boundary.
Quicker one, pushed through on middle, Bracewell defends it from the crease.
FOUR! That's gone through, a rare blemish in the outfield from the Windies. Tossed up, full and outside off, Bracewell leans and creams the cover drive just to the right of John Campbell who doesn't pick it up and lets it through for a boundary.
Nagging length, in and around off, Michael Bracewell blocks it off.
Michael Bracewell walks in next.
OUT! CAUGHT! Would you believe it? Roston Chase just jogs in and serves a long hop to begin with but somehow, Tom Latham has hit it straight to the fielder. What a timely wicket for the Windies and Latham cannot believe he's just done that. Chase comes from around the wicket and bowls it well short around off, Latham rocks back to pull but hits it flat and very straight. The ball goes towards Matthew Forde at short mid-wicket and he takes a good, sharp catch. New Zealand lose their 4th wicket and the brewing stand is broken.
Spin time. Here comes Roston Chase.

Pitched fuller and around off, Chapman gets forward well and blocks it firmly to covers. Good comeback from Greaves after that loosener on the first ball.
Good length on off, this one comes in with the angle, Chapman gets inside the line and nudges it down to silly mid on.
And again! Full of a good length, in the channel outside off and seaming away with good carry. Chapman has a bit of a poke at it but is beaten on the outside edge again.
Oh, Chapman thought he was gone for a moment. Nagging length around off, angled in from wider on the crease. Chapman is drawn into the drive but the ball holds in the deck and seams away past the outside edge as well.
A bit fuller in length and serves it around the fifth stump line, Chapman leaves it alone.
FOUR! Easy pickings. Gentle-paced delivery, shorter length and drifting on the pads, Mark Chapman just tickles it down to fine leg and the ball runs away into the fence.

Oh, that's a good ball. The in-between length again, in the channel around off, gets it to straighten a touch as well. Latham looks to block down the line but the ball zips past the outside edge.
Back of a length and around off, glided away behind point by Chapman for a single.
Much better from the bowler. Goes a touch fuller and brings the line much closer to the off stump, Chapman blocks it off.
FOUR! That has been crunched! Loose delivery from Springer as this is bowled short and wide outside off, Mark Chapman stands tall and slaps it away just in front of square on the off side and picks up another boundary. Under 100 runs needed now for New Zealand.

That in-between length, on off, Latham solidly blocks it off. New Zealand just starting to get back on track now.
Full and wide outside off again, Chapman drives it aerially and down to deep point for a single.
FOUR! Nicely done. A bit fuller and too wide outside off, Mark Chapman leans across and drives it square past point and beats the chasing fielder from deep third to his left for four runs.
Hard length and outside off, left alone by Chapman and this one swings back in after leaving the batter.
Too full and outside off, Latham punches the drive into the ground and gets it through the gap at covers for a single.
Good-length delivery, in the channel around off, good carry on it as well. Latham makes an assured leave.
DRINKS BREAK. Well, let's admit, we did not expect this. We felt that 162 might be a cakewalk for the Kiwis but it has been anything other than that. Because of the target, one cannot say that the home side is in trouble but at least the Windies are giving it their all to try and make this into a contest. Matthew Forde started off inconsistently but Jayden Seales was on song from his first over. As always is the case, it is not the better or the best bowler who gets the wickets, but the one who is with him or her. In this case, Forde enjoyed the fruits of Seales' penance and in a matter of 30-odd minutes, the run chase came to a halt. Latham and Chapman are rebuilding slowly and one would believe that it is a matter of just one decent stand for a whitewash. Additionally, can the support bowlers keep up the pressure created by the new-ball bowlers?

A bit fuller and in the channel outside off, trying to seam it away, Latham lets it through.
FOUR! That is a glorious stroke from Tom Latham. Short of a good length and wide outside off, Latham waits back well and just caresses it past the diving point fielder and the ball races away into the fence. The 50 is now up for the Kiwis as well.

Beaten! Greaves serves it on a fuller length again and around off, Mark Chapman is drawn into the drive but the ball gets extra loft off the deck and seams away past the outside edge.
Good length outside off, Chapman spanks the cover drive but again, he is unable to pierce the infield.
Full again, slanted into the pads, Latham misses the flick and the ball goes off the pads and towards backward square leg for a leg bye.
In the air again and just evades the fielder. Nice and full around off, inducing the drive, Chapman drives it uppishly and just over the leaping extra cover fielder. The ball plugs in the outfield and the batters pick up three runs.

Hits the hard length again and bowls it outside off, Latham reaches out and taps it towards backward point.
Good length, in and around off, Latham prods halfway and taps it into the off side.
Another top stop in the field. Hard length outside off, punched away sweetly on the up and to the left of square cover but the fielder puts in a dive and saves a certain boundary.

WIDE. Massive appeal from the bowler and he seems shell shocked on that being signalled a wide! Full and down the leg side, Mark looked to flick and the ball swung a fair bit away after pitching. The keeper, Shai Hope dove to his right and picked it out with one glove and Forde started to celebrate and then appeal. But he got nothing from the umpire first and then, on looking at the captain, the denial came for the review as well.
Full and wide outside off, slower delivery, Chapman resists his temptation and shoulders arms.
Full and outside off, Mark Chapman offers a solid bat in defense.

It is so refreshing to see West Indies give it their all to try and defend this paltry total. Full and wide outside off, Will Young leans into the shot, expecting to get it through the covers, but he does not keep it down. He thinks it is in the gap but Pierre douses all that thought. At extra cover, he springs to his left and takes a one-handed stunner! Young cannot believe his luck and that wicket is to the fielder. Young departs for 3 (11) and from 25/0, New Zealand are 32/3! On a good length, around middle and leg, Chapman comes forward to defend but there is that uncomfortable bounce again, which beats the bat and hits the batter near his thigh. The ball deflects towards point. Probably got the bottom arm as well on the way through.

OUT! BOWLED! That is a massive drag on. Another gift of a wicket but West Indies won't mind. A pretty ordinary delivery, short and wide outside off, Rachin Ravindra looks to hammer the cut through the off side but his feet simply go nowhere. All he manages is a thick inside edge which shatters the stumps. Forde roars in delight while Ravindra walks back to the shed shaking his head, for a good-looking 14 (22). And nearly a golden duck on his birthday! On a good length, outside off, nibbling away, Will Young has a poke at it but misses. A boundary from the over but a wicket as well. Seales' bowling figures read 3-1-8-1 so far.
Will Young walks in next at number 3, on his 33RD BIRTHDAY, replacing Devon Conway.
OUT! CAUGHT! Short ball does the trick for Seales. This is pitched outside off and is further angling away. Conway decides to pull it away which means that he has to drag the ball to the leg side. Ends up getting it off the top half of the bat and despite these being short boundaries, the ball does not have enough on it to clear the ropes. Keacy Carty keeps his cool and pouches it safely at deep backward square leg. Seales is pumped up while Conway understands that he has given his wicket away. He departs for 11 (17) and New Zealand are 25/1, needing another 137 runs from 265 balls.
Back of a length, around off, pushed to the off side.

This is what batting is all about. FOUR MORE! To the other side of the fielder! Similar ball to the previous one. Similar shot played. While the previous one was worked to the left of mid-wicket, this is worked to the right. This is a difficult shot because Ravindra has two fielders in his eyeline - mid-wicket and mid on. However, he bisects both and gets consecutive boundaries.

OUT! CAUGHT! Matt Henry has his third and once again, the commentator's curse has struck. We just mentioned that the visitors cannot afford to lose Chase and he departs. With the scoreboard moving nowhere, Chase had no other option than to try and flay the bowling. Just like Shamar Springer, he too, backed away, aiming to access the off side. Not dissimilarly, the short ball got big on him as well. The top edge was taken and the ball went high in the air. Easy catch for Michael Bracewell at cover. Mitchell Santner does really well to go hard with his right hand, but unfortunately for him, the power on the shot is too much. Back of a length and over middle, jumping off the deck, Chase gets right behind the line and blocks it off.
Wide! Banged in short again but spilled well down the leg side. Chase leaves it alone.
Back to around the wicket to the right-hander. This is bowled a bit short and angled across off, Chase hops up and defends it to cover.
On a good length and on leg, sliding on, Pierre plays it late and dabs it 'round the corner on the leg side for a single.
Over the wicket now to the left-hander, dug in short and around leg, Khary Pierre ducks under it.
Khary Pierre walks in next, at number 10, replacing Shamar Springer.
OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! My job is precious, but that is a serious commentator's curse. We just talked about accelerating and poor Springer tried just that. A short ball, outside off, Shamar Springer backed away to the leg side and had a wild slash at the ball. Only managed to get a thick outside edge, due to the extra bounce. The ball seemed to fly over the keeper but Tom Latham did well to leap and take the catch. The good-looking 29-run stand has been broken and from 31/0, West Indies are 124/8! We still have 149 balls left in this innings.
Finally a bit of a calm period for West Indies. This has now become the second highest partnership of the innings, reading 29 as of now. The last 5 overs have gone for 28 runs without much things happening. Can this pair start to accelerate a bit now?

Banged in short over middle, this one rushes the batter, Chase looks to pull but miscues it badly.
Duffy looks to go full and straight but ends up serving a low full toss. Roston Chase punches it straight back past the bowler and it is Mitchell Santner from mid off who chases after it. He puts in a slide to save the boundary and keeps it down to two runs. The third umpire checks it on the replays and Santner has done well.
Third short ball on the trot andt this is a real long hop. Shamar Springer pulls it flat and hard but straight to deep mid-wicket for a run.
Another short ball, with better bounce this time. Chase swivels for the pull but is beaten by pace. Gets it a bit off the top edge towards fine leg. The ball races across towards the ropes but Matt Henry does well to get to his right from fine leg. He does stop the ball alright, but fumbles while picking it up. The batters take the single and the fielding effort is referred upstairs, just to check whether Henry has touched the ropes. All's well in the replays for the fielding side.

SIX! That's gone well over the ropes. Fractionally short from Santner and over middle, Shamar Springer is quick to rock back and he pulls it hard and flat over deep square leg for a welcome biggie.
Nicely tossed up, full and outside off, Chase leans on and eases it wide of covers for a single.

Thought so. After seeing what happened on 19.3, Mitchell Santner has decided to get someone under the lid. It will be Rachin Ravindra at short leg.

OUT! LBW! Another appeal for LBW and this time, the umpire does raise his finger. However, Matthew Forde has reviewed it. This is smart bowling from Mitchell Santner as he slows it right up and floats it on a nagging length around middle and leg. Forde hops back to defend but the ball grips and straightens a touch, and he ends up playing all around it. The ball goes on to ping him on the pads. The replays roll in and there's nothing on UltraEdge as Ball Tracking comes up with three reds and Santner has two wickets in his very first over. West Indies in deep trouble at 95/7.
Drags the length back a touch does Santer, and bowls it around off, Forde rocks back and taps it into the off side.
An appeal for LBW but it is turned down and Mitchell Santner also feels that it is slipping down leg. Nicely floated up, on a length and sliding back in from around middle. Matthew Forde lunges to defend but is well beaten and wears it on the pads.
Another one lobs in the air, but does not go to hand. Full, outside off, Matthew Forde leans to drive but plays early. The ball gets chipped up but lands well short of cover.

OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! The pitch is rock hard but this is a very soft dismissal. Catching practice for Mitchell Santner. Full, outside off, Justin Greaves comes forward to drive it back to the bowler but the ball kind of holds up in the surface. As a result, it comes on a bit slowly, meets the bat which is already on its way down, takes the face and lobs straight back to the bowler. OUT! CAUGHT! Oh, the fielders nearly collide but eventually, Jacob Duffy does get his man and West Indies have now lost half their side inside 17 overs. Duffy goes for the short ball again and bowls it around off, but this time the height is spot on, right around head height. Sherfane Rutherford has to leap up and tries to upper cut it away but miscues it badly. The ball goes towards the gully region and both Michael Bracewell from first slip and Mark Chapman from backward point run after it. It is the latter who does pouch it and thankfully, the duo doesn't run into each other. Yet another batter departs after a start and from 31/0, West Indies are now 91/5!
Back of a length and outside off, dabbed down to backward point.
Good review. Jacob Duffy bowls a skiddy bumper around off and gets the ball to angle away. DRINKS BREAK. Fair bit of action in the first 70-odd minutes of play. Mitchell Santner mentioned at the toss that he would like to take a few wickets upfront and his bowlers have not disappointed him. The new balls swung a lot in the first 10 overs and both the new-ball bowlers - Matt Henry and Kyle Jamieson - made the balls talk. They kept the length full but also targetted the rib cage in between. Lack of footwork induced false shots and the top four have been sent back to the pavillion, with one of those crucially being the Windies skipper, Shai Hope. The pitch does look a good one to bat and the small boundaries are more than just an invitation. But the presence of grass is making the ball nibble around and it will come down to how the middle order applies itself.

Half an appeal for a caught behind but it is turned down. No wide given either, which means that the ball might have brushed the pads and later UltraEdge confirms the same. This is bowled on a fuller length and angled down the leg side. Chase looks to flick but fails to get it away.

Back of a length and angling across off, Rutherford stands tall and hits it through the point region for a single.
That is nearly a moment of brilliance from the Kiwi skipper. This is bowled fuller on off stump, Chase leans halfway and punches it sweetly to the right of mid off and sets off for the single. His partner at the other end, Sherfane Rutherford, is a bit slow to get going and Mitchell Santner scampers to his right to make a stop. Not only that but Mitch manages to get back up in a flash and throws the ball to the keeper, who whips off the bails but Rutherford puts in a dive to survive.

On a length, around middle and off, angling away, let through.
A little bit straighter now and John clips it wide of mid on, to his left. Two fielders run after the ball and one of them gets to it. Looks to pick and throw it back to his partner but the support comes late. That allows the third run to be taken. The stand moves to 30 (21).
FOUR! HANDSOME! Similar ball to the previous one, maybe a touch fuller, with the line being around off. Campbell leans into his shot, transferring his weight onto his front foot beautifully and drives it between cover and point. The outfield is quick and the ball once in the gap, meets the fence.
Full, outside off, John Campbell is drawn into the drive and gets beaten as the ball keeps moving away.

Landed outside off, left alone. 12 from the over, 22 in the last 2.
A touch short outside off, AA looks to cut but misses.
SIX! POUNDED! Nothing fortuituous about this one. A short ball, around leg and middle, but this one does not rise as much. Ackeem Auguste stands deep in his crease and with the ball coming around chest height, pulls it with aplomb over mid-wicket!
And again. Similar line and length, Ackeem pushes and misses again.
Good comeback by the bowler. Lands it on a length and keeps the line around middle and leg. Auguste has to play at it but the ball pitches and then seams away, beating the outside edge.
TOP EDGE, SIX! It has not taken long for the short ball to arrive and it nearly yielded a wicket. Banged in around leg stump, Ackeem Auguste swivels for the pull but is done in by the pace and bounce. The ball takes off and then takes the top edge, flying towards deep backward square leg. Jacob Duffy is stationed at the ropes and he leaps but the ball sails well over his jump.
That was a pretty ordinary start from Jamieson, struggling to control his line majorly.

Back of a length, around off, angling away, Campbell shoulders arms. 10 from Jamieson's first.
Full and down the leg side once more, AA flicks it towards fine leg for a single.
On a good length, with the line outside off, decent bounce, Ackeem shoulders arms.
FOUR LEG BYES! Down the leg side this time, on a good length, Auguste looks to tickle it fine but misses. The ball though, takes off his thigh pad and rockets to the fine leg fence.
FOUR! First boundary of the day. Overpitched, on middle and leg, Ackeem Auguste leans and flicks it over square leg and finds the fence, getting off the mark in style.
LBW shout straightaway. Not much seriousness in it. On a good length, around middle and leg, straightening a touch, John Campbell looked to work it to the leg side but missed and was hit on the pads. Jamieson immediately went up in appeal but then quietened almost instantaneously. Height seemed to be the factor. The ball deflected towards point and a leg bye was taken.
Kyle Jamieson will bowl with the second new ball from the other end.

Around middle and off, pushed towards point.
Back of a length, pushed towards mid on.
Landed around middle, coming in, worked towards mid-wicket.
Full and straight, around off, John taps it in front of cover and calls his partner quick and early for the single. Nice bit of communication to get things rolling.
On a length this time, at middle and off, Campbell pushes it towards point.
Plenty of swing to start. Full, outside off, slightly wide, swinging away, John Campbell lets it pass.
The players make their way out to the middle. The openers for West Indies would be John Campbell and Ackeem Auguste. Matt Henry has the first new ball in his hand. Campbell to face. Here we go!
PITCH REPORT - Ian Bishop and Neil Wagner are inspecting the deck. Bishop informs that the dimensions square of the wicket are around 68 metres while down the ground, it reads 72 metres. Wagner now comes around to have a look at the wicket. Observes a lot of grass cover, with a bit of moisture, which should aid good carry. Wants the bowlers to try and be a bit more fuller. Neil adds that with the conditions as lovely as these, there will be swing on offer. There is a bit of a dark patch near the fuller length area, to which, NW informs that the light roller has been rolled on, which just takes the sheen off the surface a bit. Expects the short ball to come into effect once the balls get older.
The skipper of New Zealand, MITCHELL SANTNER, feels that this looks like a good wicket and hard. Details that the wicket also looks a good one to bowl and the bowlers will aim to take some wickets upfront. On this particular match with the series already decided, Santer calls it as an opportunity to express themselves in front of a good crowd. Stresses that the whole squad is in good spirits. On being asked about the areas to get better, Mitchell says that it is always a challenge to do well against a side which bats well, and even more so today, with the dimensions of a ground where the boundaries are smaller. Aims to take wickets in the Powerplay. On the team changes, MS informs that Nathan Smith has a hamstring niggle and hence, has been ruled out, with Zakary Foulkes coming in for him. Adds that Jacob Duffy replaces Blair Tickner as well.
The captain of West Indies, SHAI HOPE, says that his team has been in good shape and also that stats suggest that teams batting first at this venue have won more, hence the reason to bat first. On being asked as to how do West Indies figure out the way to cross the line, Hope says that the team needs to clinch crucial moments. Adds that the players have done well to get to those places where the team can get into a winning position, but they just need to put all those things together and find a way to win games. On the thought process of qualifying for the next ODI World Cup, Shai says that the Windies need to play their best cricket for automatic qualification and make every West Indian proud in their final ODI of the year. On the team news, SH informs that ROMARIO SHEPHERD injured himself while training on Friday and hence, as a precaution, KHARY PIERRE comes in his place.
New Zealand (Playing XI) - Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Will Young, Mark Chapman, Tom Latham (WK), Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner (C), Zakary Foulkes (IN FOR NATHAN SMITH), Kyle Jamieson, Matt Henry and Jacob Duffy (IN FOR BLAIR TICKNER).
West Indies (Playing XI) - John Campbell, Ackeem Auguste, Keacy Carty, Shai Hope (C AND WK), Sherfane Rutherford, Roston Chase, Justin Greaves, Matthew Forde, Shamar Springer, Khary Pierre (IN FOR ROMARIO SHEPHERD) and Jayden Seales.
TOSS - Time for the spin of the coin. Mitchell Santner flips it and Shai Hope wins it. WEST INDIES ELECT TO BAT FIRST.
The conditions are expected to favor seam bowlers early on, but the surface flattens out, making stroke-play easier. Given that chasing is often the preferred strategy in day-night games at this venue due to the heavy dew factor, the toss will be a significant moment. New Zealand enter the match as heavy favourites, but the West Indies will be desperate to put a tally mark in the win column before shifting focus to the longest format of the game. Stay tuned for the toss and team news.
For the West Indies, this match is a critical opportunity to salvage pride and end their white-ball leg on a high note, having also lost the T20I series. Despite their inability to close out the games, the visiting side has shown flashes of brilliance, particularly through its captain, Shai Hope, whose record-breaking century in the second ODI was a spectacular, albeit ultimately vain effort. The concern for the Windies lies in the collective inability of the bowling attack and the supporting batters to convert promising starts into winning finishes. They will need a complete performance from their young side to overcome the strong Black Caps on their home turf.
Hello and a warm welcome to one and all. The final One Day International of the West Indies' tour of New Zealand takes place at Seddon Park, Hamilton, with the series already decided in favor of the hosts. New Zealand, having secured unassailable victories in the first two thrillers - a nail-biting 7-run win and a dramatic 5-wicket chase - will be aiming for a comprehensive 3-0 clean sweep. The Black Caps have consistently shown better composure in crunch moments, with key performances from Daryl Mitchell, Devon Conway, and captain Mitchell Santner helping them successfully navigate two challenging encounters. They will be looking to maintain their dominant home record and carry this winning momentum into the upcoming Test series.
... MATCH DAY ...
The three-match ODI series between New Zealand and the West Indies culminates at Seddon Park in Hamilton. With the Black Caps having already secured the series 2-0 following two closely fought and thrilling encounters, the final ODI morphs from a decider into a crucial battle for pride and ICC ranking points for the visitors, and a chance for the hosts to secure a dominant 3-0 whitewash on home soil. Mitchell Santner's New Zealand side has demonstrated remarkable temperament and depth, especially in pressure situations. They clinched the 1st ODI by a nail-biting 7 runs in Christchurch, powered by a superb century from the newly-crowned World No. 1 ODI batter, Daryl Mitchell (who is now ruled out of this match due to injury, a significant blow). The 2nd ODI in Napier saw the team successfully chase a target with just three balls to spare, highlighting their strength in the middle order and effective death bowling. Captain Shai Hope's young West Indies team has shown flashes of brilliance but struggled with consistency and closing out matches—a familiar narrative. They pushed the Black Caps hard in both games, only to fall short in the final moments, highlighting a need for better decision-making and execution under pressure.
