Lorcan Tucker showed some promising signs as he started Day 3 by hitting a flurry of boundaries. However, not for long as Sri Lanka took the last three remaining wickets quickly and now Ireland have to follow-on with 448 runs to win. A big task for them as the ball has started to turn dearly. A sensational performance by Sri Lanka. Everything is going as per planned for them. Firstly, they have notched a humongous total for Ireland to work it out but Sri Lanka have blossomed with the ball now, putting Ireland in serious trouble. Commentary
Ireland had to toil hard. They looked tired in the end but have a big task ahead. Ireland have to show their skills with the bat and look for big partnership. It didn't work for them with the ball will hope to showcase their talent with the bat. The Irish bowlers were beaten all apart as every bowler leaked too many runs. It is now time for them to see out this session without losing any wickets. Stay tuned.
Sri Lanka won the toss and it was all about four batters who went onto hit centuries. Initially, Dimuth Karunaratne and Mendis combined to add more than 280 runs and laid a perfect foundation for others to motor along. Sri Lanka lost two wickets quickly on Day 2 but Sadeera Samarawickrama joined Dinesh Chandimal in the middle to add another 183 runs to get near the 600-mark.
Sri Lanka have declared on 591! Dimuth Karunaratne probably was waiting for these two to hit the centuries and they have got it. A humongous score from the Lankan team. They are well ahead in this game and have done an excellent job with the bat.

Dimuth Karunaratne says he wanted to make sure he gets a big one. Adds he has been getting starts but not a big score and he got that here. Says Ireland is a good team, they are a side which is learning and they’ll improve. States the wicket was a good one to bat on early on and they know how to bat here and they used that to their advantage. Credits the way Sadeera Samarawickrama played and hopes he continues to do well and also says the fielding was good overall. Ends by saying Prabath Jayasuriya always does well and he hopes he keeps doing his job.
Andy Balbirnie says they are happy to play Test cricket, it has not been easy but they’ll learn from it and will try to do better going ahead. Mentions they played one in Bangladesh but he feels it is not enough but they need to find a way to compete. States they need to find a way to adapt to the longer format.
Prabath Jayasuriya is the Man of the Match. He says he always tries to give his 100 percent and tries to stick to the basics. Adds this wicket was similar to the one they played on against Australia and Pakistan.

In reply, Ireland were bowled out for just 143. A few batters got off to starts but none went onto make it big. Prabath Jayasuriya was the star with the ball for the hosts with a seven-fer. Sri Lanka then enforced the ball and it took them just over 54 overs to bowl the Irish out for the second time. This time the wickets were shared between the two spinners, Prabath Jayasuriya and Ramesh Mendis. They took 7 in total with Jayasuriya taking 10 in the whole game. Quite a one-sided win for the hosts to take a 1-0 lead in this series.
An emphatic win for the Lankans and to be honest, this was quite expected. Anything other than a convincing win for the Lankans would have surely been a surprise. They have dominated the Test right from Day 1. After electing to bat, they batted for around 130 overs and scored 9 short of 600 before declaring. 4 of their batters scored tons. Dimuth Karunaratne was the top scorer with 179.

Well, we will have a third session, it looked highly unlikely at the start of this one but Curtis Campher and Harry Tector showed some fight after the Lunch break. Sri Lanka are just two away and they would want to take it pretty quickly. Ireland on the other hand, might just enjoy themselves after the break. What a session for Sri Lanka. They are five wickets away to win the match. Ireland are in serious trouble as they are finding it very difficult to play spin. Just like the first innings, it was Vishwa Fernando who gave the perfect start before Prabath Jayasuriya took the matter into his hands. Ireland lost three remaining wickets in the first innings and the proceeding continued as they kept on losing wickets in the follow-on as well. Ireland still need 407 runs to win. Lorcan Tucker showed some promising signs as he started Day 3 by hitting a flurry of boundaries. However, not for long as Sri Lanka took the last three remaining wickets quickly and now Ireland have to follow-on with 448 runs to win. A big task for them as the ball has started to turn dearly. Stay tuned.
A sensational performance by Sri Lanka. Everything is going as per planned for them. Firstly, they have notched a humongous total for Ireland to work it out but Sri Lanka have blossomed with the ball now, putting Ireland in serious trouble. There is nothing to talk about for Irish Team. They were trapped in Prabath Jayasuriya's spin web who took seven wickets alone.

Yet again it is a day which has been dominated by the hosts and they are well, well ahead in this game! It all began with Dinesh Chandimal and Sadeera Samarawickrama scoring tons before Sri Lanka declared 9 short of 600. Then Vishwa Fernando got two in no time. There though was a fightback from Harry Tector and James McCollum. The two 70 with both getting off to starts but once Harry Tector fell, it was a procession. Prabath Jayasuriya ran through the middle order and has claimed a fifer. At one stage Lanka had a chance to bowl Ireland out before Stumps but Lorcan Tucker has shown grit and he got good support by Andy McBrine and the two have ensured there were no more wickets to fall on Day 2.

Commentary
Ireland had to toil hard. They looked tired in the end but have a big task ahead. Ireland have to show their skills with the bat and look for big partnership. It didn't work for them with the ball will hope to showcase their talent with the bat. The Irish bowlers were beaten all apart as every bowler leaked too many runs. It is now time for them to see out this session without losing any wickets. Stay tuned.
Sri Lanka won the toss and it was all about four batters who went onto hit centuries. Initially, Dimuth Karunaratne and Mendis combined to add more than 280 runs and laid a perfect foundation for others to motor along. Sri Lanka lost two wickets quickly on Day 2 but Sadeera Samarawickrama joined Dinesh Chandimal in the middle to add another 183 runs to get near the 600-mark.
Sri Lanka have declared on 591! Dimuth Karunaratne probably was waiting for these two to hit the centuries and they have got it. A humongous score from the Lankan team. They are well ahead in this game and have done an excellent job with the bat.

More than 100 runs were scored in this session. Sri Lanka continue to flourish with the bat. They lost two wickets but despite that, have scored at a good rate thanks to Chandimal and Sadeera Samarawickrama who bossed in the middle and have made Ireland toil under the scorching heat. The Irish seamers are not getting much assists from the pitch but the spinners are, however, they are not disciplined enough to get any rewards. They are either too short or too full. Ireland will hope they do well with the ball and try and restrict the hosts under 600. While Sri Lanka will hope these two go onto post a big partnership. Stay tuned.

Hello and welcome to the action of Day 2 between Ireland and Sri Lanka. Day 1 thoroughly belonged to the home team who came up strong with the bat and made it count for a long time. They have relatively two new batsmen in the crease and will hope for a big stand between them. For Ireland, the last session on Day 1 gave some relieve as they struck thrice but have to continue the good work as there is a lot of batting left. The first session will be very important for them as they will look for wickets in quick time. Stay tuned.

Ireland were guilty of bowling far too many boundary balls, they were quite short or very full, their bowlers also offered a lot of width which made scoring very easy for the hosts. The spinners were a tad disappointing as all of them had a economy of over 4. Mark Adair was the pick, he got just the one wicket but managed to keep it tight. Their bowlers though will get some confidence with the way they ended the day but they will need a few more wickets early at the start of Day 2. Sri Lanka on the other hand, will just want to keep batting. The action for the second day begins at 1000 IST (0430 GMT). The build-up though begins a lot earlier. Till then, take care and goodbye!
The day clearly belongs to Lanka but Ireland will be happy with how they have performed in the final session. Yes, they let the Lankans score freely but they have managed to take three wickets. However, the efforts from Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis has taken their side well ahead in the game. After Lanka lost one early, the two combined to put up a 200-plus run stand. Both got to tons and laid the platform for a big first innings score.

The pitch looks flat but Ireland need to get better with the ball. They were too wayward at the start. The spinners were later introduced and got some spin on offer but lacked discipline as they bowled too many short balls. Curtis Campher though showed some intent as he struck but there was nothing apart from that. Ireland will hope they bowl with more discipline and in good areas to get through this Lanka line-up. Dimuth Karunaratne says he wanted to make sure he gets a big one. Adds he has been getting starts but not a big score and he got that here. Says Ireland is a good team, they are a side which is learning and they’ll improve. States the wicket was a good one to bat on early on and they know how to bat here and they used that to their advantage. Credits the way Sadeera Samarawickrama played and hopes he continues to do well and also says the fielding was good overall. Ends by saying Prabath Jayasuriya always does well and he hopes he keeps doing his job.
Andy Balbirnie says they are happy to play Test cricket, it has not been easy but they’ll learn from it and will try to do better going ahead. Mentions they played one in Bangladesh but he feels it is not enough but they need to find a way to compete. States they need to find a way to adapt to the longer format.
Prabath Jayasuriya is the Man of the Match. He says he always tries to give his 100 percent and tries to stick to the basics. Adds this wicket was similar to the one they played on against Australia and Pakistan.

In reply, Ireland were bowled out for just 143. A few batters got off to starts but none went onto make it big. Prabath Jayasuriya was the star with the ball for the hosts with a seven-fer. Sri Lanka then enforced the ball and it took them just over 54 overs to bowl the Irish out for the second time. This time the wickets were shared between the two spinners, Prabath Jayasuriya and Ramesh Mendis. They took 7 in total with Jayasuriya taking 10 in the whole game. Quite a one-sided win for the hosts to take a 1-0 lead in this series.
An emphatic win for the Lankans and to be honest, this was quite expected. Anything other than a convincing win for the Lankans would have surely been a surprise. They have dominated the Test right from Day 1. After electing to bat, they batted for around 130 overs and scored 9 short of 600 before declaring. 4 of their batters scored tons. Dimuth Karunaratne was the top scorer with 179.
