Thokchom Radheshyam Singh, the retired IPS officer, formally joined the BJP in 2016. He was elected to the Manipur Legislative Assembly from Heirok in the 2017 Manipur Legislative Assembly election as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. In the 2017 polls, Thokchom Radheshyam Singh had got 13,389 votes and defeated the Congress's Moirangthem Okendro who had got 11,742 votes and was also the education minister of the state then. Even Singh was minister of education, labour and employment in the N Biren Singh Cabinet. He served the country as an IPS officer until he decided to join politics. As the labour and employment minister of Manipur, he rolled out various skill development programs to resolve the unemployment issues.
