Commentary

That is the end of this series. The trophy is handed to Pat Cummins. A comprehensive win as Australia clean sweep the series. A big turnaround for England as they were handed the medals just a few weeks ago and will go home with a bittersweet ending. Do keep checking the schedule page as the action keeps on coming. Till then, goodbye and cheers!

Pat Cummins, the captain of Australia says it has been a fantastic series, the bowlers and the batters have done really well. States it was a tricky wicket and Head and Warner were brilliant. Mentions the way Head has played was brilliant. Ends by saying this win has given them a lot of confidence heading into the Test series and they are looking forward to it.

Jos Buttler, the skipper of England says they tried their best, he admits Australia outplayed them, adds there is a lot to be proud of though of what they have achieved in recent times.

David Warner wins the Player of the Series. He says it is the team which has been brilliant and they have played really well, the bowlers and the batters have been really good. Laughs, 2024 is a long time away and if he keeps fit and keeps scoring runs, he might be here again. Credits Pat Cummins for the way he has captained and he just wants to concentrate on contributing for the team. He would feel great if he can captain a Big Bash side and help the youngsters come through.mo

Travis Head wins the Player of the Match. He says he was trying to stay positive and play his shots and it was nice he could get things going. Adds he and Warner both try and be positive and score freely and they like attacking the bowling and it has been a good start.

...Presentation coming up...

Australia on the other hand, were brilliant with the bat first and were equally good with the ball. All their bowlers got a wicket at least but Adam Zampa was the pick. However, the way Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins bowled with the new ball was brilliant too. Overall, it was a clinical show by the hosts. The star of the show were the openers of Australia, 150 by Travis Head and 100 by David Warner honestly put this game on the bed.

Another dominating win for the Aussies and they have completed the whitewash! This game though was done and dusted in the first innings itself. Above 350 on this wicket was going to be an improbable task and England have fallen well short. None of their batters managed to cross the 40-run mark and that is not what you need when chasing such a big score. Roy though was the only positive as he did find some form but overall, it is a game the English would want to forget.

Commentary

We are back for the chase. The players are out in the middle. Dawid Malan and Jason Roy to open for England. Josh Hazlewood to bowl first.

...The Chase...

Right then! A total that is a really big one, England do bat deep but and should come out with nothing to die attitude as they clearly have nothing to lose from here on. Australia will eye to clean sweep. Stay tuned for the chase. THE DLS TARGET FOR ENGLAND IS 364 IN 48-OVERS.

Well, there is nothing to write about England. The scoreboard speaks for itself. When the ball was swinging, they went short and in the middle phase didn't make the most of the longer square boundaries. They were completely on the back foot and were chasing the ball for the longer part of the game. They had a much better final 10 overs as they got some wickets and got the run rate down but the damage didn't stop until the end. Olly Stone was the only one who showed some character as he ended with 4 wickets.

A comprehensive performance with the bat by Australia! Tough going for England and Jos Buttler as he had no clue what to do with the ball against some carnage. It was all possible thanks to a wonderful start by Travis Head and David Warner. The former was dropped on 4 and then made the most of the given chance. Head went full throttle and scored an amazing 152. David Warner all along played the second fiddle and went onto bring up his 19th ODI hundred. Both fell in quick succession but Marsh and the other batters played a good hand to get past 350. Australia will be absolutely delighted with this score.

A slower short ball from around the wicket and on off. Warner rocks back and pulls it to square leg, it looked like the ball will go past the fielder there but David Willey runs to his left and takes a sharp catch. He had to adjsust quickly there. End of another memorable innings from Warner. Goes back with a standing ovation.

Time for the action to begin! The players make their way out to the middle and so do the Aussie batters, Head and Warner who will resume their innings. Also, an update about Philip Salt, he has been replaced and Moeen Ali is his concussion substitute.

The cover on the pitch is now coming off too and the umpires are in the middle having a look. We might not be far away from resumption. We have a time, play will be resuming in just around 10 minutes, 1050 IST (0520 GMT) to be precise.

Well, the covers seem to be coming off as the rain has stopped! Let us hope we resume play quickly. Only the pitch is covered at the moment, it is not raining currently but there are some dark clouds over the ground and that maybe the worry for the umpires at the moment.

Out of nowhere it has started to rain really hard! It was cloudy throughout but now it is pouring, the players are making their way off and the covers are coming on. The radar is quite decent though throughout the day and we do not expect this rain to last for long. As we write that, it is clearing up.

We are all set for the action to begin! The England players make their way to the between and so do the Aussie openers, Travis Head and David Warner. Chris Woakes has the first new ball in hand. Here we go...

AUSTRALIA (PLAYING XI) - David Warner, Travis Head, Steven Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Alex Carey (WK), Mitchell Marsh, Marcus Stoinis, Sean Abbott, Pat Cummins (C), Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood.

ENGLAND (PLAYING XI) - Jason Roy, Philip Salt, Dawid Malan, James Vince, Sam Billings, Jos Buttler (WK/C), Chris Woakes, Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, David Willey, Olly Stone.

TOSS - England have won the toss and OPTED TO FIELD!

England have been outclassed in all areas and have nothing but to play for pride. England rested some key players for the first game, then tried to square up in the second ODI but both results went against them. Expect both teams now to try their bench and make some changes. Stay tuned for toss and other updates.

Hello and welcome to the final ODI between Australia and England. The series has been already decided as the hosts have taken an unassailable lead and have a chance to whitewash now. It is a superb reply from them after the World Cup and will look to end on a high.

...Match Day...

A couple of comprehensive wins and Australia are on the cusp of registering a clean sweep over the reigning world champions. The series may have looked inconsequential, as it's not part of the World Cup Super League, but it has started preparations for the ODI World Cup, which is less than 12 months away, and the Australian team will be delighted with the way they have performed so far. The hosts have done well in all departments and will be looking to maintain the same momentum and intensity. Steven Smith has been on fire after spending time on the bench during the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup. He has been batting like a man possessed, and the others have also stepped up around him. Mitchell Starc showed in the last match that the fire is still burning, while Adam Zampa's progress has been exceptional in the last few years. The leggie plays a big role in the middle phase of the game and altogether, Australia are looking well-oiled in all the facets of the game. The same cannot be said for England, who have a depleted squad with a few regular faces missing. Also, after the recent high of winning the mega event, albeit in a different format, it becomes a bit tough to stay motivated. That said, the English team is a professional outfit and will be trying everything possible to avoid a clean sweep. They suffered top-order collapses in the first two games - a major reason behind their struggle in the series and will have to correct it. In addition, the inability of the English bowlers to pick wickets in the middle overs has also hurt them. It's expected that both the regular captains will return, and we could see more changes in personnel with the series already locked in Australia's favour. The iconic MCG will be hosting this affair, and the pitch here offer some assistance to the pacers with the new ball. Having said that, the spinners also enjoy bowling here, with the boundaries being on the larger side, and that will bring the likes of Adam Zampa and Adil Rashid into the picture. Let's hope for a close game.
