Well then, what a crazy, crazy Indian T20 League season we have had! Two teams that faced each other in the very first game of the tournament also went head-to-head in the grand finale as well that too at the same venue. On the opening day, it was Gujarat who cruised to a win but it is Chennai who had the final say with the biggest win of them all. With that, we bid farewell for the time being and hope you've enjoyed our company. There's plenty of more cricketing action around the corner as the World Test Championship Final is only a few days away. Until then, take care and goodbye!

One last thing left to do and MS Dhoni is on stage to collect the coveted trophy but in a heart-warming sight, he calls upon Ravindra Jadeja and Ambati Rayudu, who is playing his final game to lift the trophy with him. The Chennai players then pose for a team photograph and we can see them all filled with joy and pride.

MS Dhoni, the skipper of Chennai says circumstantially it is great time to announce his retirement but the tough part for him will be to train 9 months and come play one more season. Adds that the way the crowd followed him to different grounds and showed their affection, he feel they deserve for him to come back and play another season. Mentions that the simple fact is that it is the last part of the career and when he walked out, he heard the crowd chanting his name and had tears in his eye. Claims that they want to see him to come back which is what he will do and play however he can. Reckons that the fans love me him who he is and being grounded is what they like in him. Goes on to say that the kind of cricket he plays, anyone can play as there is nothing orthodox which is what they connect to. Informs that he wants to stay true to himself and that is what they love. Tells that every trophy you win whether it is a bilateral series or a tournament, it is a team game and they need to play together. Adds that in crunch situations individuals need to be ready. Admits that there have been lapses and even in this game they did not start the right way as the bowling department didn’t do their job but the batting department took the responsibility for them. He says that he does get frustrated as he is human as well but he tries to step into their shoe as to what happened. He understands that different individuals handle pressure differently and they want to groom them to handle situations. Ends by saying that the special thing about Ambati Rayudu is that when he off the pitch he gives his 100% and when he is on the field they will never win the fairplay award. Adds that they played India A together and he felt he would do something special in this game which he will not forget ever.

Chennai head coach, Stephen Fleming comes on stage to collect the winners' award on behalf of his side. After that, the skipper of Chennai, MS Dhoni comes on stage and picks up the winner's cheque as well.

Hardik Pandya, the captain of Gujarat then comes up and collects the runners-up cheque and shield. Pandya is down for a chat and begins by saying that they tick a lot of boxes and play with a lot of heart and is very proud of the way the boys have played throughout the season. Adds that he is not one of the guys who would make excuses and says that Chennai played better cricket. Says that they scored enough runs and then applauds Sai Sudharsan for the way he played and reckons he will rise up to better heights. Goes on to applaud all the players and takes a few names who put their hands up and also gives credit to the coaching staff. On MS Dhoni, he says that he is very happy for him and destiny was on his side and he doesn't mind losing to him. Ends by saying that MS Dhoni is a nice person and he believes that good things happen to good people.

The match officials for the final now come on stage and collect their mementos. After this, the players and staff members receive their runner-up medals and mementos which are collected by their head coach Ashish Nehra.

Mohammad Shami wins the award for the leading wicket-taker of the season. Shami picked up 28 wickets in 17 innings and at an average of 18.61.

Shubman Gill is adjudged the MOST VALUABLE PLAYER OF THE TOURNAMENT for his sensational season. Gill also wins the leading run-scorer of the tournament as he scored 890 runs in 17 innings that included 3 centuries as well and he did all that at an average of 59.33 and a strike-rate of 157.80. Gill now joins in for a chat and says it obviously has been a lot of hard work going and they were going in the right direction but unfortunately, they could not end on the winning side. Mentions that it is important to start well and earlier he was getting starts but was getting out in the 40s and 50s. Adds that towards the business end, he started to convert those starts into big ones. Claims that he practised a lot before coming into the tournament and changed his technique a bit so it has been good. Ends by saying all his 100s were different from one another and he was able to pick the right bowlers by assessing the conditions.

Yashasvi Jaiswal is awarded the EMERGING PLAYER OF THE TOURNAMENT for scoring 625 runs in 14 innings at an average of 48.08 and a strike rate of 163.61.

Devon Conway is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his quick-fire knock of 47 runs off 25 balls that set the platform for Chennai's victory. Conway says that it was certainly a long time to wait and they were a bit nervous and he and Ruturaj Gaikwad just tried to come out and focus. Adds that it is the biggest win of his career and being a part of this team is amazing and the fans are amazing as well. Mentions that most of the credit for his performances must go to Michael Hussey and it was a special tournament for him.

The Presentation ceremony...

Lastly, the man who hit the title-clinching runs for Chennai, Ravindra Jadeja is down for a chat. Jadeja says it is an amazing feeling winning his fifth title in front of his home crowd and this was really special. Mentions that the crowd has been amazing and they waited till late at night to watch them win. Credits the Chennai fans for coming out and supporting them in large numbers. He dedicates this win to MS Dhoni. Claims that his plan was to swing hard no matter what. Explains that anything can happen but he backed himself and looked to hit straight. Ends by congratulating each and every fan of Chennai and says that as long as they are there, they will keep fighting and winning the trophies.

Tushar Deshpande, the leading wicket-taker for Chennai says that he had mentioned before the tournament started that he wanted to help his side win the title. Adds that having Dwayne Bravo by his side is great as he helps with the planning and that is what he executes.

Chennai's start batter of the season, Devon Conway is down for a quick chat now. He says that his plan was to swing from the word go and was looking to be positive. Mentions that it has been great batting alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad who is a clean hitter and the left-right combination does well for them. Claims that the atmosphere in the dressing room is great and it is wonderful to be a part of this side as there is so much to learn.

Moenn Ali is the next one in for a chat and he says that beating a good side like Gujarat was amazing. Mentions that they are always learning from MS Dhoni who takes out time to talk to everyone and is approachable which helps them to grow. Adds that he is a massive part of the team and that is why they have been so successful.

Ambati Rayudu now has the microphone in hand and says that it was a lovely finish and it was tense out there but he is really happy. Mentions that he has played in great sides before Deepak Chahar intervenes and says that Rayudu kept saying he will win the title for them and that is what he did. Rayudu adds that it is great to see that all his hard work for the last 30 years ended in this way so he is happy about that. Deepak claims that he knew he can contribute in the Powerplay and when they play they want to win the title. Ambati Rayudu takes a moment to thank his father and says without him it would not have been possible.

Ruturaj Gaikwad is the next man in for a quick chat. He says this is really special, especially after their last season and it was great to win the way they did on the last two deliveries. Mentions that Devon Conway was amazing all through the season with Ajinkya Rahane playing really well but Ambati Rayudu didn’t get many balls to face and yet he played an important inning when it mattered. Explains that they wanted to get a good start in the first few overs and they knew they had the batting to achieve the target. Ends by saying that they played well through the season and did well to perform like this in the last game.

Ajinkya Rahane says that he really enjoyed it and gives credit to the management and MS Dhoni who told him what his role was before the tournament when he gets his opportunity. Claims that they didn't interfere which is really big and that is how Chennai is as the back their players. Adds that it is a really special moment for him. About Ambati Rayudu, he mentions that he is very intense and a great team man but it was not easy for him to wait. Ends by saying that it was an important inning from Ambati so he is happy for him.

Let's now head for a few interviews...

Earlier in the game, MS Dhoni won the toss and put Gujarat into bat as he felt there would be rain later in the game. This turned out to be very true and that decision paid dividends of the highest order. Gujarat made a good start with the bat and the two openers looked in solid touch but couldn't convert the starts. It was Sai Sudharsan who played a special knock and turned a sluggish start into a game-changing knock. He fell just short of a sensational ton but his antics allowed Gujarat to get to 214. The bowling from Chennai was decent overall with no one really standing out as they all bowled well in patches and got hit as well. Coming to the chase, there was drama and one could feel the tension inside the ground. In the end of a topsy-turvy game though, it was Ravindra Jadeja who was the match-winner and took Chennai to their fifth Indian T20 League title, level with Mumbai.

Gujarat will be disheartened with the loss as they almost had one hand on the trophy. They didn't start well with the ball as they conceded a lot of runs in the Powerplay and then Rashid Khan failed to make an impact as well. Joshua Little too was put away but Noor Ahmad stepped up and got a couple of crucial breakthroughs to bring them back into the game. From thereon, the game kept swinging like a pendulum but when Mohit Sharma got rid of Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni off successive deliveries, Gujarat seemed in charge. With 10 needed off 2 balls, Sharma, unfortunately, bowled a couple of average deliveries and Ravindra Jadeja made Gujarat repent.

Chennai came into bat, needing a stiff target of 215 in 20 overs but midway through the very first over of the chase, the rain gods showed up. Everyone had to wait a long time to get the play resume and Chennai needed 171 in 15 overs. The openers went hard at the bowlers and set the platform with a quick 74-run stand. Both Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway fell in the same over but Shivam Dube and Ajinkya Rahane came in and kept the ante up. Rahane got out after a few brilliant shots and Ambati Rayudu came out in his final inning of the Indian T20 League and smashed a few balls away. There was a slight hiccup as Rayudu and then MS Dhoni fell in quick succession but Ravindra Jadeja, the star all-rounder kept his cool and took his side to a sensational victory off the final delivery. Shane Warne will be smiling in the heavens, his 'Rockstar' has brought the roof down!!!

CHENNAI ARE THE CHAMPION FOR THE FIFTH TIME! Crazy scenes inside the Narendra Modi Stadium as Ravindra Jadeja finishes the game off in amazing fashion and the Chennai players flood the field in ecstasy. Absolute heartbreak for Mohit Sharma, who bowled a sensational spell but it is Chennai who reign supreme once again. Talk about a memorable final and this one will probably be right there among the best ones in history. A final that started on the 28th of May in India has now finished on the 30th of May! We had a washout, then play looked rain-free on the reserve day and in the end, we had another rain intervention. But, after all that, we got a cracker of a game in and cricketing fans inside the stadium and all over the globe will be filled with joy for they have got to witness something special here.

Commentary

We are back for the second essay and there was a bit of delay. There was a slight drizzle and the covers were on but the ground staff has taken it off now. The umpires have made their way out to the middle and the Gujarat players are in a huddle on the ground with Hardik Pandya giving them a few last-minute instructions. They now spread out and take their respective fielding positions as Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway jog onto the field. The light roller is still working on the pitch with all the players out there as they look to get all the playing conditions in order before resumption. Gujarat use their Impact Player option as Joshua Little comes on in place of Sai Sudharsan. Mohammad Shami has the new ball in his and will begin proceedings. We are all set now for the game to start. Let's go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Right then, Chennai need to bat out of their skins to achieve this target but definitely have the batting talent to push for a win. They will need another explosive start by their in-form openers which will allow the rest of the middle and lower order to play their natural game. Gujarat have a potent bowling line-up and will be grateful to their batters for giving them a massive total to defend. There will come out all guns blazing and will look for early wickets to put the pressure on the four-time champions from the word go. Will Chennai pull off a remarkable run chase? Or will Gujarat defend this total with ease? We will find out shorty.

Gujarat started off watchful as they looked to negotiate the new ball and get an idea of what would be a good total to set. They put on a 67-run opening partnership but brilliance from MS Dhoni behind the stumps resulted in Shubman Gill losing his wicket on 39. Wriddhiman Saha went on to reach his half-century but departed in the quest to accelerate the scoring. Hardik Pandya joined Sai Sudharsan and they put on 81 runs in 33 balls with the latter doing the bulk of the scoring. He fell short of his century by 4 runs but played a knock for the history books as he got his team to a commanding position. The skipper played a few crisp shots and would have liked to add 10 odd runs to the total for the purpose of safety on a good batting surface.

Sai Sudharsan has shown the world why he is so highly rated! Gujarat have once again managed to post a dominating total of 214 runs on the board and they are proving to be quite a batting juggernaut. They constructed the innings beautifully and will now be silently confident of clinching their second title in a row. Hardik Pandya had mentioned at the toss that in his heart he wanted to bat first and it is a flat wicket and he got his assessment bang on. There was very little joy for the Chennai bowlers as they were carted all over the ground and were unable to take regular wickets to put a cap on the scoring. Deepak Chahar and Ravindra Jadeja took one wicket each and Matheesha Pathirana claimed two in the last over to end strong.

OUT! CAUGHT! Matheesha Pathirana and Chennai end with a wicket but the damage has been done. Takes pace off a bit and bowls it on a hard length outside off. Rashid Khan stays deep in his crease and forces the lofted shot toward long on. The ball goes high but there's not enough power on it. Ruturaj Gaikwad from long on moves to his right and takes a good running catch. Gujarat finish with 214/4 on the board!

19.51lb

Leg bye! Fuller in length and around off, Hardik Pandya goes deep in his crease and looks to whack it across the line. He misses though and the ball goes off his pads toward backward point. They get a leg bye.

19.41b

BYE! Slower one, on a shorter length and outside off. Rashid Khan has a wild swing across the line but misses. Hardik Pandya speeds across for a bye and MS Dhoni gets in the direct hit at the batter's end. The replays show that Pandya is well in.

Rashid Khan has been sent up the order to finish the inning.

19.3W

OUT! Given LBW! Sai Sudharsan has reviewed it though. Matheesha Pathirana stays around the wicket and angles in a quick and full delivery into middle and leg. Sudharsanshuffles across a bit and looks to flick it away but misses. The ball thuds into the pads and the finger is raised. Nothing on UltraEdge and Ball Tracking comes up with three reds. Absolute heartbreak for Sai Sudharsan but what a sensational inning it has been from the young man. Sudharsan gets a round of applause from the crowd and deservingly so.

19.26

SIX! One more and now, Sai Sudharsan is just one hit away from a century! Matheesha Pathirana comes from around the wicket and angles in a fullish delivery on off. Sudharsan is able to get under it and lifts it over the long on fence for a 97-meter maximum.

18.20

17.42

Overthrows! Matheesha Pathirana bangs this one into the deck and angles it well across the right-hander. Hardik Pandya taps it away in front of mid off and gets across for one. Deepak Chahar there fires in a quick throw at the bowler's end and the ball goes off the stumps onto the off side. The batters manage to sneak in another run.

17.31

Full and wide outside off, hit away down to long on for just a single.

16.44

16.34

FOUR! Another boundary and 14 off this over already! Hard length outside off, Sai Sudharsan stands tall and slaps it off the toe end of the bat but to the left of mid off and the ball goes to the fence.

Well then, what a crazy, crazy Indian T20 League season we have had!

OUT! CAUGHT! Stunned silence from the Chennai supporters as MS Dhoni departs on the very first delivery! Mohit Sharma is on a Hat-trick and despite conceding 16 runs in his first three balls he has got his team well and truly back in the tie. This is bowled full and outside the off pole. SIX! Ambati Rayudu gets into the act and it is now three sixes in three deliveries! Mohit Sharma bowls this full and outside the off pole. Ambati Rayudu thumps this over wide long off for a maximum.

Strategic break! Well then, 38 runs are needed in 18 balls and with a lot of batting to come, one would fancy Chennai to win here. But, it is easier said than done as a couple of wickets can change things quickly. Shivam Dube, with those two maximums in the last over, has given Chennai momentum. Can they now go on and convert it into a win? Or will Gujarat's pacers step up and take them over the line? Let's find out as we are in for a thrilling finale.

Pitched up and angling into the pads, Ruturaj Gaikwad looks to flick it toward mid-wicket but the ball flies off the outer half and goes over cover-point. They get back for two runs.

We are all set for the game to resume as the umpires make their way out to the middle. The Gujarat players are in a huddle at the boundary line where Hardik Pandya has a few more words to share before taking their respective positions on the field. The remaining ground staff is leaving the field now as Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway stride out to resume their opening partnership. Mohammad Shami has the new ball in his hand to complete his over and is ready to begin proceedings. Let's go...

UPDATE - 11.44 pm IST (6.14 pm GMT) - Right then, finally we have good news from the ground! The game will resume at 12.10 am IST. The chase has now been reduced to 15 overs and we will share the revised target at the earliest. Stick around. So the target for Chennai is 171 runs and the Powerplay will be the first four overs. A bowler can bowl a maximum of 3 overs each and the four-time champions need 167 runs in 87 deliveries to win this game.

UPDATE - 11.35 pm IST (6.05 pm GMT) - The umpires are out in the middle for the inspection and are having a long chat about the playing conditions. The ground staff have been toiling for a long time now to get that side pitch ready for play. The roller has also been rolled multiple times and we should get a start time or update soon. Stay tuned.

UPDATE - 10.52 pm IST (5.22 pm GMT) - There is a lot of movement on the ground as the ground staff is sprinkling sand over the wet areas. The Super Soppers are out as well and the pitch is being rolled in while the match officials have a discussion. Hardik Pandya had a long conversation with the match referee Javagal Srinath and then the umpires as he looks to be a little fazed out there by the conditions. The next inspection will be done at 11.30 pm IST (6 pm GMT) and hopefully, we will get some action soon after. We still have a couple of hours before overs are lost and we hope for the action to start shortly. Fingers crossed.

UPDATE - 10.20 pm IST (4.50 pm GMT) - We have good news to share as well as some bad! The rain has stopped and the ground staff has got the covers off but the bad news is that the area surrounding the pitch got drenched while taking the covers off. They are trying to dry the area and the next inspection will happen at 10.45 pm IST (5.15 pm GMT). We hope the rain stays away and we can have some action soon. Stay tuned for further updates...

UPDATE - 10.05 pm IST (4.35 pm GMT) - The rain seems to have eased down a bit and we may not have a long wait this time around. It was getting difficult for the ground staff to put the covers on with intense winds but now they have managed to get it down and are waiting for the rain to stop completely before getting the playing conditions in order. Most of the outfield remains uncovered but the drainage at this ground is outstanding and it should not be too much trouble to dry it out.

UPDATE - 9.51 pm IST (4.21 pm GMT) - The rain has come in full force and the players rush off the field. The ground staff gets into action immediately as they pull the covers onto the field. It is raining cats and dogs out there which is making it very difficult for the groundsmen to get their work done efficiently. We still have 2 hours before we start losing overs and the DLS par score after 5 overs is 43/0, 49/1, 56/2, 65/3, 77/4 and 95/5.

0.34

FOUR! Ruturaj Gaikwad and Chennai are up and running! Good length outside off, Gaikwad waits on it well and opens the bat face to play it in front of point for a boundary, the first one of the chase.

0.20

On a length around off, Ruturaj Gaikwad puts a big stride across and punches it sweetly toward cover.

0.10

Starts off with a fullish delivery around off and gets it to shape away a touch as well. Ruturaj Gaikwad gets forward well and pushes it out toward mid off.

SIX! One more and now, Sai Sudharsan is just one hit away from a century! Matheesha Pathirana comes from around the wicket and angles in a fullish delivery on off. Sudharsan is able to get under it and lifts it over the long on fence for a 97-meter maximum.

Reckons that it is a flat track and informs that they are going with the same team as the last game.

MS Dhoni, the captain of Chennai says that they will bowl first because there are chances of rain. Adds that they were in the dressing room yesterday, but it was more difficult for the spectators inside the ground. Mentions that even with the rain, the wicket here should remain good for batting as it has throughout the tournament. Hello, and welcome back, ladies and gentlemen to our coverage of the final in the 16th edition of the Indian T20 League as we reach the reserve day to determine who will be champions. We had an agonizingly long wait on Sunday as the world waited in anticipation to witness this blockbuster clash between Gujarat and Chennai at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The rain gods did not relent till the game was called off and it has been a rainless day so far. The weather prediction has indicated that we may have some stoppage today as well but we hope to witness a complete game between two potent sides.

... MATCH DAY ...

UPDATE 10.59 pm IST (5.29 pm GMT) - Right then, the inevitable has happened and the GAME HAS BEEN CALLED OFF FOR THE DAY! Luckily, there is a reserve day and the Final will be played on Monday, the 29th of May. The pitch and the covers have taken up a massive amount of water; hence, the ground wouldn't be ready before the cut-off time. The game will start on Monday at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT) with our build-up starting much sooner than usual. Do join us then and let's hope that the reserve day stays rain-free and we get a cracker of a final. Take care and goodbye!

UPDATE - 10.25 pm IST (4.55 pm GMT) - The intensity of the rain seems to have reduced a fraction but the ground staff will need it to stop completely to be able to work on the covers and the outfield. This is looking really gloomy at the moment as we are heading closer to the cut-off time for the game to be played today. There is still about an hour and a half for that to happen so we will try and be optimistic. Stay tuned for any further updates.

UPDATE - 9.45 pm IST (4.15 pm GMT) - It is still raining heavily on the ground and we have crossed the cut-off time of 9.40 pm IST (4.10 pm GMT) for a full game so we will lose overs if the game starts today. We still have some hope for some action today itself but if not we always have a reserve day in store for us. A 10.30 pm IST (5 pm GMT) start will mean the game is 15 overs per side, an 11 pm IST (5.30 pm GMT) start will mean 12 overs for each team, and a 9-over game if the match starts at 11.30 pm IST (6 pm GMT). Fingers crossed.

UPDATE - 9.25 pm IST (3.55 pm GMT) - Everything looked to be in order as the captains were talking to the match officials and the umpires seemed happy with the outfield as well. The pitch was being rolled and there seemed to be discussions on when the toss would happen. But alas! The rain gods have reappeared as everyone on the field starts to exit the playing field and the ground staff comes running in with the covers. This is getting painful now with all the anticipation behind the game and we hope to bring some better news soon...

UPDATE - 9.10 pm IST (3.40 pm GMT) - So the ground staff has begun removing the covers while the Super Soppers are doing their job in the outfield. The match officials and some of the players have made their way out onto the field to get a feel of the situation and check the conditions. If the game starts at 9.45 pm IST (4.15 pm GMT) then we will have a 19-over game and if it starts by 10 pm IST (4.30 pm GMT) then we will have 17 overs per side. Things are moving quickly now and we could still have an early start so stay tuned...

UPDATE - 9 pm IST (3.30 pm GMT) - The rain seems to have halted at the moment but we have been having some stop-start moments and we hope that this time it is for good. Even if it does, the ground staff will still take some time to get the covers off and the outfield dry, so we could expect some overs to be lost today. We will keep you updated with further news...

UPDATE - 8.30 pm IST (3 pm GMT) - We have a bit of good news here to offer! We have had torrential rain so far but it has now reduced to a slight drizzle. We are hoping for it to completely stop soon so that the ground staff can begin their work. Two Super Soppers are already on the ground as they look to get rid of the puddles in the outfield and we should have some more updates soon. Just as we say this, the rain has picked up, and looks like we may have to wait a bit longer...

UPDATE - 7.40 pm IST (2.10 pm GMT) - To fill you guys in with the situation... The latest the game can start without overs being lost is 9.40 pm IST (4.10 pm GMT) and we will have a 5-over match latest by 11.56 pm IST (6.26 pm GMT). If no play happens, the match will take place on the reserve day, i.e. 29th May 2023.

UPDATE - 7.10 pm IST (1.40 pm GMT) - The rain is still around but it looks like more of a passing shower. Also, the drainage here is immaculate so, hopes are high for a full game. Stick around as we bring you the latest updates from the ground.

UPDATE - 6.54 pm IST (1.24 pm GMT) - We have some bad news, folks! The rain has come pouring down hard and the ground staff have brought the covers onto the field. The toss has been delayed but we expect this to be a passing shower. Stay tuned for further updates...

Gujarat have become a force to reckon with in just two seasons as they have proved that their win last year was not a fluke. They bulldozed through the group stages with 10 wins in the 14 games and were top of the table by a comfortable margin. They did get a reality check when they faced Chennai in Qualifier 1 but overcame that loss with a thumping win against Mumbai in Qualifier 2 and played some of their best cricket. They have the Orange Cap holder Shubman Gill and the Purple Cap holder Mohammad Shami in their line-up to establish why they have been so dominant in the competition so far and Hardik Pandya will be desperate to establish his credentials as a captain by making it two consecutive titles. Which heavyweight side will be crowned the champions? We will find out soon! Stay tuned for the toss and team updates.

Chennai have once again proven why they are the most feared franchise in T20 cricket as they make yet another final appearance. They started the competition strong and despite a minor stumble towards the middle phase which had their fans worried, a string of good results helped them finish second on the table. MS Dhoni continues to use his extraordinary leadership skills on the field and has guided his side directly into the final after winning Qualifier 1 as they for their fifth Indian T20 League title. He has the ability to get the best out of his side as can be seen from the faith he has shown in his young fast bowlers and some underperforming players and that has built great cohesion in the group. Their batting has been their primary strength along with some world-class spinners in their midst which makes this side well-balanced and a constant threat.

Hello, and a warm welcome, ladies and gentlemen to our coverage of the grand finale in the 16th edition of the Indian T20 League as we are about to witness an enthralling encounter between two of the best sides in the competition this here. We are at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad as the reigning champions lock horns against four-time winners Chennai in the biggest cricket ground in the world with the world waiting in anticipation to see who comes up trumps. Both teams have won once against each other in this edition with Gujarat claiming a win in their opening match at this venue but Chennai got the better of their opponents at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Qualifier 1. However, this is the game that matters the most with the coveted title on the line and it is to be seen which side comes up trumps in this enticing final fixture.

... MATCH DAY ...

The final is pushed to the reserve day, i.e. 29th May 2023 at 7.30 pm IST! It rained too much and showed no respite. Preview - We have reached the climax of what has been an enthralling cricketing journey that has lasted close to two months and left the world captivated with some high-quality entertainment. The 16th edition of the Indian T20 League has been purely spectacular as we have witnessed numerous records broken and some nail-biting encounters that have even left our imagination in a state of wonder. The group stages were tightly contested and it was only after the final tie that we were able to get all our four qualifiers. Despite being one of the closest contested seasons in history two teams stood out from the rest and it is only fair that they are the ones battling it out for the coveted title. The reigning champions powered through the league stage in commanding fashion winning 10 games which had them sitting pretty at the top of the table and they will clash against a team that has made the most final appearances in the history of the competition. The stage is set at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad which is the biggest cricket arena in the world for the dominant Gujarat side to take on four-time champion Chennai in what is expected to be an epic affair. It will be a home venue for Gujarat and they will look to take the momentum they gathered from their dominating win against Mumbai in Qualifier 2 into this fixture. Shubman Gill snatched the Orange Cap in style as he notched up his third century in this edition taking his tournament tally to 851 runs and his batting dominance is more evident by the fact that the next highest scorer for his side is skipper Hardik Pandya who has 325 runs under his belt. Wriddhiman Saha (317 runs), Vijay Shankar (301 runs), and David Miller (259 runs) have made some handy contributions but the middle order has also been exposed a couple of times and will need to be aware of the threat the Chennai spinners pose. Their bowling attack is so potent that the top three players in the leading wicket-takers list are from their side with Mohammad Shami and Rashid Khan fighting for the Purple cap with 28 and 27 wickets respectively. Mohit Sharma has played three games lesser but still has 24 wickets in his kitty having taken a 5-wicket haul in the previous game. Noor Ahmad has been a steady contributor having taken 14 wickets so far and he is only bound to grow in strength. Chennai have depended on their young pace bowlers to carry the bowling this season with Deepak Chahar (12 wickets) missing a chunk of their games and it has been Tushar Deshpande (21 wickets) and Matheesha Pathirana (17 wickets) who have managed to come to the fore. Ravindra Jadeja continues to be a high-utility player for them with 19 wickets and 175 runs coming low down the order and has been supported in the spin department by Maheesh Theekshana (11 wickets) who seems to have finally found a bit of rhythm. MS Dhoni has had very little batting to do this season as their potent batting order has rarely needed his contribution. The openers Devon Conway (625 runs) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (564 runs) have continued their good run and will hold the key to their success on a batting-friendly track. They have a long batting order with Shivam Dube (386 runs), Ajinkya Rahane (299 runs), Ambati Rayudu, Moeen Ali, and Ravindra Jadeja but their collapse in Qualifier 1 will be fresh in their minds. They did manage to win the tie at the M. Chidambaram Stadium but the two sides faced each other on the opening day at this very venue it was the reigning champions who claimed a 5-wicket win to kickstart their campaign. The title-holders will feel that they have the added benefit of having the home crowd behind them but that is when you do not factor in a talisman called MS Dhoni. The fans of the Indian legend have followed him throughout the competition and we expect another sea of yellow to be present at this venue backing one of the most successful T20 captains in the world to yet another title. Will they clinch their fifth trophy? Or will Gujarat become the only side to win two titles in their first two years? We will find out soon.
