Commentary
We are back for the final phase of play on Day 2, with roughly 45 minutes left on the clock. The primary objective for Zimbabwe's opening pair, Ben Curran and Brian Bennett, will be to negotiate this tricky period without any damage. Sam Cook will start with the new ball for England. Here we go!
... THIRD INNINGS ...
Zimbabwe have it all to do to save this Test. Brian Bennett was the standout performer by a country mile, showing composure and intent in an otherwise underwhelming batting display. While Craig Ervine and Sean Williams offered glimpses of resistance, the touring side desperately needed more from their experienced duo to mount a meaningful reply. Heading into the second innings, the visitors will require a massive collective effort not only from the senior players but also from the rest of the batting unit. Back in a bit for Zimbabwe's second innings.
Zimbabwe have been folded for 265 in their first innings. With a lead of 300 runs, England have decided to enforce the follow-on. A decision very much on expected lines, especially with this being a four-day Test and rain forecast on Day 3. The hosts will now look to pile the pressure and push for an innings win. Shoaib Bashir was superb with his guile and deception and finished with three wickets, while on the pace bowling front, Ben Stokes looked the most threatening and had a couple of scalps to his name,
OUT! BOWLED! That will be the end of the innings as Richard Ngarava is not coming out to bat! Length ball from Gus Atkinson, that skids off the surface. Blessing Muzarabani makes some room to cut it, but the ball wasn't short enough, as it sneaks under his bat and disturbs the furniture.
Full on middle, Blessing Muzarabani swings through the line, he doesn't middle it one bit, as the ball goes along the ground to short mid-wicket.

Again very full from Shoaib Bashir, on off, Victor Nyauchi again drives it straight to short cover.
Full on off, Victor Nyauchi drives it off the front foot to short cover.
Quick and short, that one goes with the arm. Victor Nyauchi plays for the turn as the ball goes past the outside edge.
Short and on off, Blessing Muzarabani steers it towards backward point where Josh Tongue fumbles on the tumble and concedes a single.
Short on middle, Blessing Muzarabani plays it fine behind the wicket, towards deep fine leg for two runs.
FOUR! Hit back past the bowler! Short on off, Blessing Muzarabani hits it off the back foot. The ball goes through the bowler's legs, down the ground for four. Perhaps a missed opportunity there.

Good length on off, Victor Nyauchi pushes it to mid off.
Full on middle, Victor Nyauchi pushes it back to short cover. No footwork whatsoever.
Victor Nyauchi is in now. Ian Ward on air provides an update on Richard Ngarava. Ngarava won't come out to bat, so Zimbabwe are effectively 9 wickets down.
OUT! LBW! A yorker swinging in on middle, Tanaka Chivanga looks to dig it out and gets beaten as the ball hits his front pad. Appeal for LBW and not given. England are confident and they go for the review. Here's the third umpire on screen. There it is the ball has clearly hit the pad first. Ball Tracking coming up. Pitching in line, impact in line and hitting the leg stump. Three reds. The on-field call has to be reversed. Tanaka Chivanga has to go.
Full this time, on middle, Blessing Muzarabani makes some room and looks to drive it down the ground. He doesn't middle it as the ball trundles along to the right of mid off who cuts it off. Single taken.
Gus Atkinson goes short this time, on off, Blessing Muzarabani lets it go.
Back of a length, outside off, Blessing Muzarabani looks to slap it and gets beaten on the outside edge.

Fuller and outside off, that doesn't turn. Tanaka Chivanga gets his front foot ahead to defend it but the ball doesn't turn and goes past his outside edge.
Full again, pitching on off and turning on middle, Blessing Muzarabani rocks back and manages to drive this through extra cover for a single.
Slower through the air, tossed up above the eye line. The ball lands outside off and turns a bit into the right hander, Blessing Muzarabani looks to cut it but gets an inside edge that hits his pads and goes into the ground.
Shoaib Bashir drags his length back a bit, and goes short, on middle, Blessing Muzarabani defends it off the back foot.
Slower through the air, tossed up, on off, Blessing Muzarabani leans forward and blokcs it off the front foot.
A touch short, off break, turning on middle, Blessing Muzarabani defends it off the front foot, back to the bowler.
DRINKS BREAK! An eventful passage of play since Tea, but ever since the departure of Brian Bennett, it's been more about survival than scoring for Zimbabwe. Richard Ngarava might not bat due to a back issue, so the visitors could be effectively eight down and are staring down the barrel of a follow-on. Shoaib Bashir has been excellent while the seamers have looked far more threatening after turning to the short-ball ploy. England tightening the screws here at Trent Bridge.

Back of a length on middle, Tanaka Chivanga somehow manages to get some bat on it as the ball drops into the leg side.
Short ball from Gus Atkinson! Tanaka Chivanga looks to pull it but is nowhere near getting his bat on it as the ball hits his right shoulder and goes towards the slip cordon, where Zak Crawley from second slip dives to his left and takes the catch. But that has come off the shoulder. So, no real appeal there.
Full length on middle, Tanaka Chivanga defends it to mid-on.
Length ball angling in, just outside off, Tanaka Chivanga looks to defend it as the ball goes past his inside edge.
Commentary
We are all set for Zimbabwe's response with the bat to get underway. Ben Stokes leads his troops out to the middle. It will be Ben Curran and Brian Bennett to open the innings for the visitors. The debutant, Sam Cook, will open the attack for England. Cook to Bennett with three slips and a gully in place. Here we go!
... SECOND INNINGS ...
Zimbabwe bowled with much greater discipline and control this morning, with Blessing Muzarabani looking the most threatening of the lot and deservedly finishing with three wickets. However, the bulk of the damage had already been done on Day 1. Now, with the bat, Zimbabwe face a mountainous task and will need to show immense resolve and application to withstand England’s relentless pace attack. Back in a bit for their reply.
With the fall of Harry Brook, England have decided to DECLARE! Ben Stokes and Co. believe they have more than enough on the board and now want to have a crack at the Zimbabwean batting unit. After being asked to bat first, the hosts posted a commanding 565, powered by centuries from Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, and Ollie Pope, with Harry Brook adding a brisk fifty to cap off a dominant display.
OUT! BOWLED! Blessing Muzarabani has the last laugh! Back of a length, just outside off, Harry Brook looks to cut it as he inside edges it and chops it back onto his stumps. And with that, England have declared!
FOUR! Harry Brook's in a hurry here! Full on middle, Harry Brook skips down the track and lofts it over mid on. The mid on fielder goes running behind the ball and tries to push the ball away from the ropes, near the boundary, but fails to do so.
SIX! Harry Brook gets to his FIFTY in style! Short ball, just outside off, Harry Brook picks it up from there and pulls it way over deep backward square leg for six. An enterprising knock so far from Brook.

Dropped! Tafadzwa Tsiga the wicket-keeper has shelled a rather easy chance. A touch fuller, and shaping away, outside off, drawing the batter into the shot. Jamie Smith goes feeling at it as he outside edges it to the right of the wicket-keeper, who takes a step to his right and gets a good right hand on it, but can't quite hang on to it.
On a good length, wide outside off. Shaping away from the right-hander, Jamie Smith thinks to go after it but leaves it alone in the end.
FOUR! What a shot from Jamie Smith to get off the mark! Full and on the pads, Jamie Smith clips it off the middle of the bat, as the ball goes on the bounce over deep mid-wicket fence.

Dropped and FOUR! Short ball just outside off, Harry Brook plays the upper cut and hits it to the left of deep third man, who runs to his left and gets to the ball, but the ball goes through his hands and hits the boundary ropes on the bounce. It's the substitute fielder Wellington Masakadza who is the culprit.

Commentary
So, that wraps the Test match. Ben Stokes collects the trophy and the English players pose for the cameras. That is all from this game. Hope you all enjoyed the coverage. A lot of cricket is happening around the world so you can catch up on the other side. From here, it's goodbye and cheers!
Ben Stokes, the captain of England says it's good to get the summer off to winning ways. Tells the players know when they walk out there and play for England, every game is important. Clears the air by saying Jacob Bethell is going to come back in the squad. Tells it is hard for any bowlers to bowl when Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett get going like that. Credits how Ollie Pope just continued the momentum and played that way, feels to walk out there and play in that manner is exceptional. Reckons they have got a nice gap between the India series and they will utilise it well. Adds that it was nice to get some overs under the belt, rhythm and everything felt great today. Tells the rest for him is more important now because they have a lot of matches coming up. Mentions injuries are traumatic sometimes and it plays on the mind but feels he has worked hard in the past few weeks, so it's a massive boost. On Shoaib Bashir, Stokes says it was exceptional to see the way he came out and asserted himself into the game with the ball in the 1st innings. Adds that he has got the backing of the dressing room. Mentions that they were a bit slow into the game but thinks it is understandable as they were getting used to the rhythm of Test cricket.
Craig Ervine, the skipper of Zimbabwe says their fans are like no other and thanks them for the incredible support. Tells Day 1 didn't go their way but the players came back brilliantly with the bat and they should be proud of themselves. Reckons it's particularly about the nerves initially but once they played well with consistency there was the reward. Shares that with the overhead conditions, they could have bowled a bit better on Day 1. On Brian Bennett, he says it was a special knock and he'll remember it for a long time. Ends by saying, Zimbabwe cricket is in safe hands and tells it won't take long for them to play against England again.
Shoaib Bashir WINS THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH AWARD. He says it is a nice ground to bowl on when it is spinning and feels it was a clinical performance from all the players. Reckons his year started when he went on loan to Glamorgan and later they had a nice training camp before this match. Shares the backroom staff makes them feel 10 foot tall, it makes the players feel relaxed. Ends by saying they'll have a week off before they start training again.
...PRESENTATION...
Enforcing the Follow-On. Zimbabwe lost kew players at the fag end of Day 2, making things difficult for them to pull things back or give them a chance to make England bat again but they started Day 3 well surprisingly. Ben Curran and Sean Williams negotiated the first hour pretty well, adding 122 runs on the board. However, they lost both in quick succession, putting pressure on the middle order to save them with plenty to trail still. Sikandar Raza played brilliantly as he scored fifty but once he fell it was a procession and eventually a big loss for Zimbabwe. Credit to the English bowlers. The pacers toiled hard to build pressure but it was Shoaib Bashir's six-fer that made the difference. In total, 9 wickets for Shoaib Bashir and undoubtedly he could be the man of the match.
After coming to bat, Zimbabwe's first innings came to a close at 265, courtesy of a disciplined bowling effort from the English attack. The visitors trailed by 300 runs, and England had enforced the follow-on. Brian Bennett led the resistance with a brilliant 139, striking a century at a rapid pace. However, he received limited support from the rest of the batting lineup. Craig Ervine contributed 42, Sean Williams scored 25, and Tafadzwa Tsiga added 22, but none could convert their starts into substantial scores. Shoaib Bashir was the standout bowler for England, claiming 3 wickets. Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson also made significant contributions.
A convincing victory for the hosts! With overcast conditions on Day 1, Craig Ervine didn't hesitate to bowl first and right so but in response to the pitch, he got a flat track which England batters settled without wasting any time. In the first innings, England declared at 565 for 6, after the fall of Harry Brook's wicket. A truly dominant display with three centuries and a half-century, led by Ollie Pope's magnificent 171, Ben Duckett's 140, and Zak Crawley's 124. Brook added a rapid 58 to the total. Blessing Muzarabani was the pick of the Zimbabwean bowlers, claiming three wickets in the form of Joe Root, Ben Stokes, and Harry Brook.
So, Shoaib Bashir wraps up the innings in style. His six-fer was enough to get through the Zimbabwe batting order. England have dominantly started the cricket summer. A one-off Test against Zimbabwe of four days and they have concluded the match in just three days. Total domination.

OUT! Bowled! But there's drama. The bowler has his hands on his head in disbelief - he feels the stumps were missed and the keeper has fluffed a stumping opportunity. Stokes, having seen it all unfold, calmly informs his bowler that it's bowled. Jamie Smith, the keeper, after witnessing Bashir's reaction, perhaps starts to doubt his own keeping abilities. But all of that is put to rest, as it's indeed clean bowled. Just to be sure, the on-field umpires go upstairs to check the replays - everything is perfect. Coming to the delivery - it's nicely tossed up around off, a real tempter. Tafadzwa Tsiga sees the flight and dances down the track for a big swing. But the ball dips, spins, beats the bat, and clips the top of leg stump. After all the confusion, as mentioned earlier, England celebrate. They are inching closer to making this 4-day Test as a three-day one.

... Day 3, Session 2 ...
Sikandar Raza, who replaced Williams, has made a promising start, and Zimbabwe will be hoping that he and Ben Curran can forge another significant partnership to further narrow the deficit and potentially force England to bat again. Join us shortly after the lunch break...
England's bowling unit employed various strategies to break the stand, including Stokes' prolonged spell and Tongue's short-pitched deliveries. However, Curran and Williams' determination kept Zimbabwe in the game, narrowing the deficit. England however finally broke the crucial partnership when Sean Williams missed a sweep shot, giving them a much-needed breakthrough.
Session Summary - 25 overs, 111 runs, and 1 wicket. Zimbabwe's fortunes took a dramatic turn thanks to a crucial 122-run partnership between Ben Curran and Sean Williams. The duo's resilience helped Zimbabwe overcome them from a precarious position. Curran's cautious approach complemented Williams' aggressive batting style, making it challenging for England to breach their partnership.

We are all set for the action to begin. The umpires and the players are out in the middle. Sean Williams and Ben Curran will resume their innings for the Zimbabwe. Ben Stokes will start with the ball. Let's play...
Also, the forecast indicates unfavourable conditions, with the possibility of rain, which is undesirable for the match. However, let's cross our fingers to get a full exciting day of cricket. Stay tuned.
On the flip side, Zimbabwe will surely be frustrated by both their bowling and batting displays. Having won the toss and chosen to bowl, their bowlers struggled to create any significant pressure, a theme that sadly carried through the innings. Despite a promising start after losing an early wicket with Brian Bennett and captain Craig Ervine stabilizing the innings, their efforts were cut short when the skipper succumbed to the English spinner. Nevertheless, credit where it’s due as Brian Bennett showcased remarkable grit and emerged as the fastest Zimbabwean to hit a century in Test cricket, single-handedly energizing his team with his explosive stroke play. As we head into the follow-on, the Chevrons’ position is precarious, having lost two early wickets and trailing by 270 runs. While the challenge ahead is formidable, but with a little luck and a shift in momentum, the impossible can become possible, and we have seen miracles happen in this game.
With the match advancing quickly into its third innings, England boasts a formidable 270-run lead. On Day 2, the Three Lions delivered a stunning performance, rolling out the Chevrons for just 265 and enforcing the follow-on. Shoaib Bashir was outstanding, picking up three crucial wickets with his impeccable spins and turns. Meanwhile, debutant Sam Cook marked his presence in red-ball cricket by claiming his first wicket. Although the side of the bowlers faced challenges in dealing with the resilient Brian Bennett, but Josh Tongue dealt with it brilliantly using his short ball tactic. The English side hopes to replicate Day 2's brilliance on this pivotal moving day, aiming to wrap things up swiftly and prevent the opposition from gaining any traction.
A warm welcome to all the cricketing enthusiasts for the buildup of Day 3 of this thrilling four-day Test match between England and Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. As we head into what is often referred as 'Moving Day', the stage is set for another exciting chapter in this encounter. England currently holds a commanding position, but there's plenty of time left for the visitors to stage a comeback.
...DAY 3, SESSION 1...
Asked to follow on with around 45 minutes left before close, Zimbabwe’s second innings got off to a poor start. Centurion Brian Bennett fell cheaply, followed quickly by Craig Ervine, leaving the tourists 270 runs behind and likely with just 7 wickets in hand given Ngarava's situation. The English bowlers will be raring to go on Day 3 after a good night's rest. The hard new ball’s variable bounce posed a real challenge late in the day and promises to test the Zimbabwean batters. The first ball on Day 3 will be bowled at 10 am GMT, but you can join us early for the build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye!
In a blessing in disguise, Bashir's fingertip injury while attempting a catch brought Ben Stokes into the attack and he made an immediate impact with a couple of quick scalps. While wickets continued to tumble at the other end, Bennett held firm until eventually succumbing to England's short-ball tactic. The tail didn’t offer much resistance, and with Richard Ngarava unable to bat due to a back issue, Zimbabwe were bowled out for 265, conceding a hefty 300-run lead.
In response, Zimbabwe suffered an early blow with Ben Curran falling cheaply but Brian Bennett wasn’t fazed by the early setback. Displaying positive intent and composure, he kept the scoreboard ticking with regular boundaries. His partnerships with Craig Ervine and later Sean Williams offered glimpses of promise, but both stands were cut short just as they started to blossom. Bennett had a slice of fortune when Joe Root dropped him on 89, and he made it count by racing to his second Test century off just 97 balls - the fastest ever by a Zimbabwean in Tests.
End of an eventful day at Trent Bridge! England remain firmly on top, but Zimbabwe showed flickers of resistance with the bat. Despite those brief spells of fight, the visitors still find themselves with their backs against the wall heading into Day 3. Earlier, England resumed their innings at 498 and wasted little time in piling on more runs, stretching the total to 565 before declaring at the end of a brisk fifty from Harry Brook.

We are about to get the final session of the day underway. 36 overs remain in the day, and with the extra half hour available, there’s a good chance we will get through all of them. Sam Cook will get us going. Tafadzwa Tsiga to face. Let's play...
... DAY 2, SESSION 3 ...
For Zimbabwe, Brian Bennett continued his aggressive batting in this session too, as he notched up the fastest hundred for Zimbabwe in Tests in 97 balls and dare I say he is still out there playing his shots without fear. However, with half the side back it’s going to be a herculean task for the visitors. Tafadzwa Tsiga is the last recognised batter, and after that, the bowlers will follow. So it’s going to be a tough job ahead for the visitors. England will look to wrap this up as quickly as possible. Do join us in a bit for the post-tea session.
SESSION SUMMARY - 27 overs, 137 runs and 4 wickets. An eventful session comes to an end. A lot of action in that session. There were runs as well as wickets in there. England are clearly in the driver’s seat. They got four wickets in the session as their captain, Ben Stokes, led from the front getting two wickets towards the fag end of the session and ensuring they are well ahead in the game. Shoaib Bashir did bowl well on a wicket which isn’t offering much and he was rightly rewarded as he picked the wickets of two left-handers.

We are all set for the second session to commence. Ben Stokes and his men head out to the centre, followed by the two Zimbabwean batters. England are starting with spin in the form of Shoaib Bashir. Let's play...
... DAY 2, SESSION 2 ...
With 73 runs on the board at the loss of one wicket, Zimbabwe have surely got off to a good start. There have been some nervy moments here and there with the new ball for the Zimbabwean batters, but the surface has largely remained unresponsive. Once the shine of the ball goes away, the tourists have a real chance to put on a good total here. So, do join us in a bit for the post-lunch session of this 4-Day Test.
Zimbabwe, too, would have felt better as they managed to take 3 wickets, which was equal to what they managed to pick in the whole of yesterday. Then the visitors came out to bat and their openers showed intent from the word go, especially Brian Bennett, who smashed three boundaries in the first over of their innings. Ben Curran fell to a beautiful delivery from Gus Atkinson and post that, Craig Ervine has come to the crease and he has looked fairly comfortable for his brief stay.
SESSION SUMMARY - 24.3 overs, 140 runs and 4 wickets. Lunch on Day 2 here in Trent Bridge. One would call it a shared session between the two sides. England batters started the session with the intent to score as many as possible and they fairly succeeded at that as they scored 67 runs in 8.3 overs before declaring the innings. Harry Brook had a major role, as he scored the bulk of the runs in that phase of play.

JUST IN - One of Sri Lanka’s most enduring stalwarts, Angelo Mathews, has announced his retirement from Test cricket. The veteran all-rounder will bow out of the longest format following the first Test of the two-match series against Bangladesh in Galle next month. Mathews has, however, confirmed his availability for selection in white-ball cricket.
The gap in experience was glaring on the opening day, with none of the Zimbabwean players having previously played a Test in England. They lacked discipline and were unable to build any sustained pressure. To make matters worse, Richard Ngarava walked off during the second session with a back issue and didn’t bowl again for the rest of the day. Zimbabwe will be hoping he recovers in time to make an impact with the second new ball, which is just eight overs old. Can the visitors show some fight? Stay tuned to find out!
Centuries from Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, and Ollie Pope powered England to a commanding 498 by stumps, with the Zimbabwean bowlers struggling to make any real impact. With this being a four-day Test, the focus now shifts to the home side's game management. How long will they bat before declaring? They will need to leave themselves enough time to bowl Zimbabwe out twice, so expect some intent early on.
Hello and welcome to Day 2 of the one-off Test between England and Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. The opening day was one of dominance for the hosts as they surged well ahead in the contest after being put in to bat. Zimbabwe’s first day of Test cricket in England in 22 years could hardly have gone any worse.
... DAY 2, SESSION 1 ...
Right then, England take the opening day honours and will look to build on their advantage on Day 2. For Zimbabwe, their first Test in England after a 22-year hiatus has gotten off to the worst possible start. They will need to show the stomach for a fight when they return and respond strongly. The first ball on Day 2 will be bowled at 10 am GMT, but you can join us early for the build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye!
The pair kept the scoreboard ticking, and Zimbabwe’s woes deepened when Richard Ngarava walked off with a back issue shortly after Lunch. On a beautiful batting deck, Duckett, Crawley, and Ollie Pope made hay while the sun shone, with each going on to score a century. The second new ball proved a double-edged sword for the tourists. While it brought the wicket of Joe Root, it also leaked 45 runs in just 8 overs, with England ending the day just shy of 500.
A day of English dominance at Trent Bridge! It wasn’t entirely unexpected, especially after a wicketless first session that set the tone. From there, Zimbabwe were left playing catch-up on a deck that offered little assistance and they didn’t help their cause with inconsistent lines and lengths. Earlier in the day, Craig Ervine chose to bowl under overcast skies, but his pace quartet lacked the control to trouble the English openers. Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley started cautiously before getting into the groove to dispatch anything loose.

... DAY 1, SESSION 3 ...
Meanwhile, for England, Ben Duckett completed his 100 in that session and was motoring along nicely before getting out against the run of play. Zak Crawley has ended the session in the 90s, so the Tea won’t taste that sweet for him as nervous 90s might play around his mind. Ollie Pope has looked at his fluent best as he is closing in on a half century. Zimbabwe are in dire need of wickets and they would be hoping for a bowler to put his hand up and take up the responsibility, else the next session could well be another run fest. So, do join us for the post-tea session shortly.
SESSION SUMMARY - 27 overs, 165 runs and 1 wicket. Tea Time here in Trent Bridge and England batters continue to dominate. The only positive for Zimbabwe in that session was that they got their first wicket as Wessly Madhevere struck in his very first over. There hasn’t been any real help from the wicket and Zimbabwean bowlers haven’t helped themselves one bit as they have continued to be wayward with their lengths. Richard Ngarava going off the field shortly after Lunch only made matters worse for them. Madhevere did find some turn and if that is any sign to go by, then we can expect Day 2 and Day 3 to be more helpful for the spinners.

... DAY 1, SESSION 2 ...
For Zimbabwe, Blessing Muzarabani has looked threatening at times. Tanaka Chivanga has looked a touch raw but has got some swing, as he went past the edge of batters on multiple occasions. Zimbabwe need to get their act together as soon as possible, else this will be a long day for them. Do join us for the post-lunch session in a bit.
At Lunch on Day 1, England are well-placed with the score reading 130/0. Zimbabwean pacers haven’t hit the right areas consistently, and as a result, they have really failed to create consistent pressure on the English openers. All pacers have either been a tad short or full and have failed to hammer the good length area on a consistent basis. Both Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley have been in cruise control mode, having crossed their fifties and they would be looking to go big in the post-lunch session. They have latched onto anything loose, especially Duckett.

DRINKS BREAK! A steady start for England, and they will be fairly pleased with how the first hour has unfolded. While there hasn’t been anything extravagant, there has been just enough movement in the air and off the pitch to keep the bowlers interested. That said, Zimbabwe haven’t challenged the English openers enough on the front foot. Interestingly, as Stuart Broad has noted, the impact of the heavy roller usually starts to fade after the first hour. That’s also when the lacquer begins to wear off the ball, potentially generating more movement. On a pitch that looks good for batting, the tourists need to make the most of this window.

It will be the left-hand, right-hand combination of Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley to open the innings for the home side. Richard Ngarava will kickstart proceedings with the new ball. Ngarava to Crawley. Three slips and a gully in place. Here we go!
Before we get going, the match officials and the two sets of players will line up for the national anthems. It will be the Zimbabwean national anthem first, followed by that of England.
Zimbabwe (Playing XI) - Ben Curran, Brian Bennett, Craig Ervine (C), Sean Williams, Sikandar Raza, Wessly Madhevere, Tafadzwa Tsiga (WK), Richard Ngarava, Blessing Muzarabani, Tanaka Chivanga, Victor Nyauchi.
England (Playing XI) - Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (C), Jamie Smith (WK), Gus Atkinson, Sam Cook (On debut), Josh Tongue, Shoaib Bashir.
TOSS - Zimbabwe win the toss and they will BOWL first.
On the flip side, Zimbabwe come into this match after a mixed performance in their last Test series against Bangladesh in April, which they ended up drawing. While they celebrated a victory in the first game, they missed the chance to secure a series win in the second. However, the return of Sikandar Raza, who prioritised this historic matchup over his PSL playoff commitments. Their pace attack, led by the seasoned Richard Ngarava, with Blessing Muzarabani sharing the new ball duties to create trouble right from the start. The key area that the Chevrons must focus on is their batting, as they will face a stern attack from this potent English pace attack. So, which team are you supporting? Make sure to stay tuned as we are just moments away from the toss.
After a long wait of 22 years, the clash between the Three Lions and the Chevrons is finally happening, and it’s poised to be nothing short of iconic. England, under the astute leadership of Ben Stokes, are all geared up to launch their red-ball season with this four-day Test. Eyes will be on Sam Cook, the 27-year-old speedster, as he steps onto the field for his Test debut. With Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue leading the seam attack, the bowling unit is ready to make an impact. The experienced trio of Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley, and Ollie Pope are set to take charge at the top, while Joe Root and Harry Brook in the middle order will be expected to deliver crucial runs.
Hello and a warm welcome to one and all! We're thrilled to bring you the coverage for the exciting one-off Test match, where England and Zimbabwe lock horns at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. What's so special about this one-off Test? Well, it is going to be a four-day Test match instead of a traditional five-day Test. Which also means there will be a slight tweak in the rules, for instance, we can have a maximum of 98 overs bowled each day instead of 90, and there will be six and a half hours of play daily, whereas a five-day match typically has six hours of play, barring the extra time.
