Commentary

We are all set for the run chase! The umpires are back out in the middle and the Indian players can be seen in a huddle. Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz are set to open the innings for Afghanistan as Rohit Sharma has not taken the field. It looks like Virat Kohli might be captaining for now. Mukesh Kumar will take the new ball for India and he is raring to go and Shubman Gill is on the field for Rohit.

... THE RUN CHASE ...

India has posted a mammoth total of 212 on the board and surely has an upper hand here. They will aim to bundle up the opposition as soon as possible. Whereas, Afghanistan has a tough task up its sleeves and has a very steep slope to climb. The run chase is just a few moments away. Stay tuned.

Afghanistan on the other hand, had Indian eyes lit up straightaway as they dismantled the Indian top order as Fareed Ahmad got rid of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli and Sanju Samson with his excellent 3-fer. He ended up with brilliant figures by conceding only 20 in his spell when the others were being hammered away. Azmatullah Omarzai chipped in with a scalp of Shivam Dube and they had India on the back foot in the first half. But, the tables turned sooner as the debutant Mohammad Saleem was taken to the cleaners and the Afghanistan bowlers sort of lost their momentum halfway into the innings and offered freebies to Rohit and Rinku. The last five overs proved to be an absolute nightmare for them and it was a poor execution after a brilliant initiation. Afghanistan couldn't take any wickets after the fifth over of the innings and just leaked runs all over the ground.

Wow, just wow! That was power-hitting of the highest quality. We have witnessed a scintillating knock by the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma after losing four wickets in the initial stages on the mere score of 22. India saw the early departures including Yashasvi Jaiswal, followed by Virat Kohli and Sanju Samson, both of whom were dismissed without scoring a run. The next to fall was Shivam Dube, who had effortlessly smashed sixes in the previous game. Rohit Sharma, coming into this game on the back of a couple of ducks, started off a bit tentatively but sooner got into his groove along with Rinku Singh, who, equally contributed crucial runs in the partnership. India rebuilt pretty well as the two started taking the bowlers apart with some brutal hits out of the park and complemented each other brilliantly. India had an exceptional recovery as Rohit garnered a brilliant century and scored his highest T20I score. Rinku Singh, as calm as a cucumber, accumulated a phenomenal FIFTY. He scored a blistering 69 and 36 coming off the last over. Rinku Singh and Rohit Sharma together struck 14 sixes. India garnered 103 runs in the last five overs and also breached the 200 mark which, looked impossible to achieve at the start.

SIX! Make that five maximums and 36 runs off the over! What an epic finish from India and Afghanistan have been left red-faced here. Karim Janat changes the angle by coming in from around the stumps and digs it in a bit short and angling into the hitting arc. Rinku Singh stays put and just swivels on it a bit before pulling it over deep mid-wicket for a maximum. India finish with a mammoth total of 212/4 on the board!

19.56

SIX MORE! 30 off the over with a ball to go. Karim Janat with yet another juicy full toss and Rinku Singh just slogs it away as the ball flies over the mid-wicket fence for a fourth maximum in the over.

19.46

SIX! And out of nowhere, the 200 is up for India! This has been some partnership and some hitting from these two. Serves it full on the pads, Rinku Singh flicks it off the legs and gets it over the mid-wicket fence for a maximum.

19.31

Gets the wide yorker in this time, Rohit Sharma opens the face of the bat and guides it straight to short third for a single.

19.26

SIX! BANG! Full and wide but right in the slot again, Rohit Sharma once again hangs deep in the crease and clobbers the ball right back over the bowler's head for another big maximum. This is now Sharma's highest score in T20Is!

19.27nb

NO BALL AND SIX! The ball has smashed into the roof and has taken a real pounding that ball. Another juicy full toss outside off, Rohit Sharma stays deep in the crease and whacks it away right off the meat of the bat over the long on fence and into the roof of the stadium for a mammoth blow. What is worse for Afghanistan is that Karim Janat has overstepped and it will be a Free Hit to follow.

19.14

FOUR! Cheeky and just too good from Rohit Sharma. Full and wide but it is a low full toss, Sharma just walks past the stumps and laps it past square leg for a boundary.

Karim Janat will bowl the last over of the innings.

SIX! What a way to bring up the FIFTY from Rinku Singh! Right in the slot again around off, Singh gets under it and thumps it over the long off fence for a biggie. 22 off that over and India in overdrive mode here.

18.51

A juicy full toss outside off, Rohit Sharma misses out and slaps it down to long off for just a single.

18.44

FOUR! HUNDRED FOR ROHIT SHARMA! What a knock this has been from the Indian skipper and he has turned adversity into joy. This is full and wide, a bit too full, Rohit Sharma reaches out and slices the low full toss as the ball races away to the backward point fence. A fifth T20I century for Rohit, the most in the men's game.

18.34

FOUR! Slower one but Rohit Sharma deals with it well. Takes pace off and bowls it into the deck over leg stump, Rohit just rolls his wrists over the ball and gets it to the fine leg fence fo four more run. Moves to 99 now.

18.26

SIX! High and mighty and Rohit Sharma is one more big hit away from the century now. Azmatullah Omarzai misses his mark with the yorker and serves it in the slot on middle and leg. Rohit takes the front leg out of the way and smokes it well over deep mid-wicket for a biggie.

18.11

Very full and outside off, Rinku Singh crocuhes a bit and drives it away along the ground to deep cover for a single.

Azmatullah Omarzai will bowl the penultimate over of the innings.

17.54

FOUR! Nicely done by Rohit Sharma. Gets the yorker in Fareed Ahmad but the line is a bit too straight, Rohit stays deep in the crease and clips it away wide of short fine leg for a boundary.

17.41

Banged in short and over the stumps, Rinku Singh swivels and pulls it away to fine leg for yet another single. Good bowling this from Fareed Ahmad, bowling to his field.

17.31

Full and wide, right in the blockhole, Rohit Sharma stays leg side of the bat and reaches out to guide it on the full with an angled bat but can't get it past short third. Just the single then.

17.21

Short of a length and angled into the body, Rinku Singh flat-bats it straight towards deep backward square leg for one more.

17.11

Back of a length and outside off, Rohit Sharma cuts it hard off the back foot and Gulbadin Naib gets a good hand on it behind point to his right. That takes pace off and deflects it straight to deep point and the batters get one run.

Fareed Ahmad is back into the attack now.

16.41

Excellent comeback delivery from Karim Janat as he gets the yorker in right at the toes. Rohit Sharma digs it out to the vacant square leg region for one. They look for two but decide against it as the bowler is quick to get to the ball.

India have done well with the ball thus far and the spinners are proving to be fairly economical but they need wickets and can't just let Afghanistan keep on piling the runs. 128 needed off 60 balls now, can Afghanistan pull off a miracle?

WIDE! Looks to go full and wide at 141 clicks but just misses his mark and spills it beyond the tramline.

15.51

15.41

Good cricket all-round! Slower one, bowled on a good length and angled well across, Rinku Singh waits for it well and plays it wide of the man at short third. Karim Janat there scampers and dives in to get a hand on it. Just the single then.

15.31

Ouch, that must have hurt! Pacy delivery, banged in back of a length and over off stump, Rohit Sharma looks to heave across the line but gets hurried on. The ball takes the top edge and goes right into the side of the helmet before rolling behind point. They get a single which is given as leg byes.

There is a bit of a halt in the proceedings as Rohit Sharma has been hit on the grill of his helmet trying to play the pull shot. The Indian physio is out in no time to check Rohit according to the protocols. He looks fine to continue.

15.31wd

WIDE! Free Hit to continue! Back of a length and pushed well wide of the off stump, left alone for a wide.

15.33nb

No ball! Another high full toss and this time a no ball is called. On the hips, Rohit Sharma flicks it away towards deep mid-wicket for a couple of runs. That one seemed to be fair enough but the previous call might have played a role in this one. Free Hit coming up..

15.26

SIX! Oh, boy, that is a huge one! Banged in short now, overcompensating for the previous delivery. Rohit Sharma gets across the stumps a bit again and muscles it right over the mid-wicket fence for a biggie.

15.14

FOUR! The new bat seems to be firing fine. Too full and too straight, Rohit Sharma gets inside the line and just helps it past the fielder at short fine for a boundary.

Rohit Sharma wants a change of bat and there is just a slight hold-up in the proceedings. Rohit gets a different willow and we can now continue.

It's time for a quick breather and what an hour or so of play we have had here at Chinnaswamy! India would definitely need that pause as they were rocked early losing four wickets upfront. Of what looked like a high-scoring pitch, India started off with losing Jaiswal early and he was followed by Virat Kohli and Sanju Samson, both getting out on golden ducks. The next to depart was Shivam Dube, who smoked sixes like a cakewalk in the previous game. Rohit Sharma and Rinku Singh are out in the middle and they have faired well against the tide. They would aim to build a good partnership from here. Afghanistan came up with a plan to bowl on hard lengths and stuck to it and executed them pretty well. Fareed Ahmed has picked a brilliant 3-fer and has had the Indian eyes lit up. An interesting next half of the first innings is on the cards. Stay tuned.

All in readiness for the game to begin! The two umpires are out in the middle and so are the two Indian openers, skipper Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Fareed Ahmad has the new ball in hand and will get proceedings underway here. Let's play...

Ibrahim Zadran, the captain of Afghanistan says that they would have bowled first and will look to execute their plans. Adds that so far there have been a lot of positives from this series and they will try to have a good one. Adds that they have made as many as four changes with Naveen-ul-Haq, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Noor Ahmad not playing.

The Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma says that they will bat first as they have bowled in the first two games and now they want to try different things. It has nothing to do with the pitch and they want to try out different combinations and test the bench strength. It has been a good series and it's another good opportunity for them to end the series on a positive note. Ends by informing that Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh and Jitesh Sharma are out and Sanju Samson, Kuldeep Yadav and Avesh Khan are in.

Afghanistan (Playing XI) - Rahmanullah Gurbaz (WK), Ibrahim Zadran (C), Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Nabi, Najibullah Zadran, Karim Janat, Gulbadin Naib, Sharafuddin Ashraf (In for Mujeeb Ur Rahman), Qais Ahmad (In for Noor Ahmad), Mohammad Saleem (On T20 debut) (In for Naveen-ul-Haq), Fareed Ahmad (In for Fazalhaq Farooqi).

India (Playing XI) - Rohit Sharma (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Shivam Dube, Sanju Samson (WK) (In for Jitesh Sharma), Rinku Singh, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Kuldeep Yadav (In for Axar Patel), Avesh Khan (In for Arshdeep Singh), Mukesh Kumar.

TOSS - The flip of the coin lands in favor of India and Rohit Sharma has opted to BAT first.

PITCH REPORT - Deep Dasgupta is pitchside. He starts by saying that the ground is fairly above sea level and it is 60 meters and 66 meters on either side of the wicket with the straight boundary being 70 meters. Nick Knight joins him and says that at first glance, it looks like there are a lot of cracks but when you take a second look at it, the pitch is hard and there is some grass, and will be slightly two-paced. Reckons there are runs to be scored and India might want to bat first. DDS ends by saying that pace-off might be the way to go on this surface.

As for the tourists, things haven’t worked out in their favor this whole series as they have struggled to contain the Indian batters and have been pretty expensive with the ball in hand. They are definitely missing the services of their superstar spin maestro Rashid Khan. His void was felt in this series as he has the potential to turn the course of the match single-handedly. Their batters will need to build a strong foundation up top and play attacking cricket to pressure the hosts. In the form of Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz, they do have a fearless opening pair but the top two need to play responsibly and step up and end this series on a positive note. Right then, the anticipation is building higher and higher and one can expect a galore of sixes and fours at the Chinnaswamy. Stay tuned as the Toss and the team sheets are just around the corner.

India have been rock solid thus far in the series and even when the opposition has looked dangerous, they have been able to come out on top with ease. Shivam Dube has been consistent in both games and has unleashed his potential with an aggressive approach and hitting with absolute precision. Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel will aim to keep things tidy just as they have done so far. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma would like to have some runs by his name in this game as this is the last T20I for India before they enter the T20 World Cup, 2024 later this year in June. With Virat Kohli playing his habitual colossal strokes and Rinku Singh being consistent, the Indian batting order looks nothing less than lethal. With the series in the bag, we might just see a few changes to the Playing XI as well.

Hello and a warm welcome to our coverage of the 3rd and the final T20I between India and Afghanistan which is taking place at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. India has already clinched the three-match series in a comprehensive way and leads by 2-0. Sixes and fours rained havoc at the Holkar Stadium in Indore as the two Indian southpaws, extremely talented Yashasvi Jaiswal, and the strong bloke Shivam Dube stepped up and helped India chase down a decent total of 172, with their 68 and 63 runs respectively. The visitors have threatened at times but haven't been able to take control of the two matches gone by and will be hoping to avoid a whitewash.

... MATCH DAY ...

The Chinnaswamy is all in readiness to witness an exciting clash between India and Afghanistan for the 3rd and the final T20I. India has already clinched the series 2-0 and has outplayed the tourists prodigiously. But this time, it's the youngsters who have stepped up and performed. The two southpaws, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shivam Dube batted with lightning speed at Indore and struck some mesmerizing strokes, taking the Afghan spinners to the cleaners and smoking the ball out of the park. Also, the two happen to be the leading run-scorers in the series by far. The crowd roared at its pinnacle as they got to witness Virat Kohli after a long wait in the shortest format. Though his stay at the crease was not long enough, he did play some eye-catching shots upfront and marked his statement. India chased down the target of 173 quite comfortably with around four overs to spare and didn't give Afghanistan any breathing space. Indian bowlers too, stepped up and picked crucial timely wickets and will aim to continue the same further. As for the visitors, Gulbadin Naib looked attacking but, he was stranded alone. Afghan spinners were pretty expensive as they were the victims of the Dube-Jaiswal onslaught. The void of Rashid Khan's experience is being felt by the Afghans. Now, coming into the third and final game, Afghanistan will look to finish the series on a consolation and keep their spirits higher. Given that Chinnaswamy is a relatively smaller ground, boundary scoring is anticipated to be abundant and a treat for the batters. We can also expect to see a few changes in both teams as they might want to test the bench strength too. India has the opportunity to whitewash Afghanistan and would aim to continue the brute force with the bat as this is their final T20I game before entering into the T20 World Cup in June later this year, so they will definitely bring their A-game. Will India sweep the series or will Afghanistan prevent the whitewash? Let the games begin...
