Commentary

Right then, Ireland registered a memorable victory at Dublin defeating Pakistan by 5 wickets in a convincing manner. They ascend 1-0 in this 3-match T20I series. Pakistan will be disappointed with their performance and will have to focus on improving their fielding and overall intensity for a strong comeback in the second T20I which will be played on Sunday, 12th May. The first ball will be bowled at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). But as always, you can join us for the pre-match build-up a lot sooner. Till then, cheers, and take care!

Andy Balbirnie wins the Player of the Match award for his incredible knock of 77 from 55 deliveries (10 fours and 2 sixes). He starts by saying that he felt that he could take his side home. Mentions that it is great to see the youngsters stepping up. States that he and Harry Tector planned to keep it simple till the 13th over and then try to up the ante. Informs that this is a great win for them as a cricketing nation.

Paul Stirling, the skipper of Ireland says they are absolutely delighted to begin the summer with a victory. On being asked about bowling first, he says that the pitch conditions are comparatively different from Pakistan's flat wickets. Credits his batters for being brave enough in the chase. Adds that Balbirnie played a stellar knock and was timing the ball well. Says that they have had good games recently and getting it over the line this time again was fantastic. Ends up by saying they will practice after a day off and will look to maintain the momentum in the next game.

Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan is in for a chat. Babar Azam explains how he felt their start wasn't that good. Adds that the pitch was quick, and maybe 190 would've been a better score. States that they lost the game in bowling and fielding. A few mishaps let the game slip away from them.

The presentation ceremony...

Earlier in the game, Ireland decided to put Pakistan in to bat first. Pakistan didn't have the best start, losing Mohammad Rizwan early. However, after a slow start, both Saim Ayub and captain Babar Azam picked up the pace nicely. Azam reached his 35th T20I half-century before getting out. Ayub also played a significant innings, scoring 45 runs. However, a quick collapse in the mid-overs slowed down Pakistan's scoring. But then, Iftikhar's impressive cameo towards the end revitalized their innings, helping them post a respectable total on the scoreboard. In the chase, Irish batters fought hard, but also the pendulum swung in the favour of both sides at times, eventually going in the hosts' favor, thanks to Andy Balbirnie's 77 and of course, Curtis Campher's valiant finish.

Pakistan's bowlers capitalized on their team's strong batting performance. Shaheen Afridi's initial spell applied the squeeze, while Naseem Shah's early breakthrough added to Ireland's troubles. Abbas Afridi's dismissal of Tucker further solidified Pakistan's dominant start. Pakistan showed some sloppiness in the field, allowing a few boundaries to slip through their grasp that should have been routine stops. Pakistan's momentum took a hit as they conceded quick runs during the mid-overs, allowing Ireland to stage a recovery. While Imad Wasim managed to pick up a wicket in the process, Pakistan struggled to capitalize on the breakthrough and continued to leak runs. However, Abbas Afridi struck in his second spell and the pendulum swung again in the favour of the tourists as Shaheen Afridi, in the penultimate over dismissed Balbirnie. But in the end, one would say, it was the insipid fielding effort from the tourists that made the difference and Pakistan surely felt the brunt of it.

IRELAND SCRIPT HISTORY AS THEY GO 1-0 UP IN THIS THREE-MATCH T20I SERIES! What a brave chase this has been. A game that went right down to the wire but eventually, it was this brave Irish side who robbed this one from Pakistan. Ireland's pursuit of a challenging total didn't kick off as smoothly as they'd hoped. Despite Paul Stirling's early boundaries, his departure in the Powerplay and Lorcan Tucker's quick exit compounded into early trouble. Andy Balbirnie took on the responsibility of steadying the ship, punctuating his innings with timely boundaries to keep the run rate manageable. Harry Tector's contribution further bolstered the partnership. The two kept the scoreboard ticking as they relied on drop and run, converting ones in twos, and also punished the poor deliveries of course. Tector fell at the wrong time but George Dockrell came out swinging from the first ball, launching a counterattack. Andy Balbirnie's pivotal 77 came to an end in the second last over but dramatically Curtis Campher came in as a saviour for Ireland who helped them to chase 11 off the last over.

Commentary

We are back for Ireland's reply. The Pakistan players are out in the middle now. Followed by Paul Stirling and Andy Balbirnie who will open for the hosts. Shaheen Afridi gets the new ball in hand. Here we go..

... The Run Chase ...

Ireland were exceptional with the ball throughout the innings barring the final two overs, one might say. They had everything under control from the get-go when Mohammad Rizwan had to walk back cheaply for just a single. Then came a fightback from Saim Ayub and the Pakistani skipper, as they stitched a 85-run stand to get their innings back on track, but once this pair was broken no one really could put their hand up with the bat. Some good tight bowling from Ireland put the opposition under tremendous pressure once again, and the host cashed in on it as well by picking up three wickets in just 7 deliveries. This is when it felt like Pakistan will be finishing on an under-par score, but in the end, Pakistan found a way somehow to finish on a high. Craig Young was the pick of the bowlers for Ireland surely. Although, now for the visitors it is all about carrying the momentum. Will it be enough though to put the Irish hopes to bed? Do join us shortly for the second essay to find out.

WOW! What a recovery this has been from Pakistan. A wonderful cameo from Iftikhar Ahmed of 37 runs off just 15 deliveries with a valuable help from Shaheen Afridi has helped them to get to the magical number that Babar Azam mentioned during the toss. 183 is what Ireland have to chase down to take a lead in this series. Quite, a tall mountain to climb. How costly will the final two overs prove to be for them.

It will be Mark Adair to begin the proceedings with the new ball. And, here we go! Uh, oh! A halt first up as there's some issue with the sightscreen. The issue is resolved and Saim Ayub has taken his stance. Let's play...

Right then, both the teams are out now and have lined-up for their respective national anthems. It is going to be Pakistan's first followed by the one of the hosts.

Pakistan (Playing XI) - Babar Azam (C), Saim Ayub, Mohammad Rizwan (WK), Fakhar Zaman, Shadab Khan, Azam Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah and Abbas Afridi.

Ireland (Playing XI) - Paul Stirling (C), Mark Adair, Andy Balbirnie, Curtis Campher, Gareth Delany, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker (WK), George Dockrell, Barry McCarthy, Ben White, Craig Young.

TOSS -  The coin goes up and lands in favour of Ireland. They will BOWL first.

Paul Stirling leading the side, and he also leads with the bat, the intent he shows is ideal for a T20 contest. Then you add some young-blood energy in the middle-order, with some quality bowling attack, then one can even say that Ireland are a complete package, but can they bring their A-game against one of the best? Only time will tell. Stay tuned as the toss is just around the corner.

It is not often that these two sides meet each-other, in fact, they only encountered once before this series that too back in 2009 for a T20I game. Ireland have certainly grown as a cricketing side over the years, and it will be very interesting to see how they come up against a formidable Pakistani side, because when it comes to T20 Pakistan is certainly up there. It's just that they find it a tad difficult to be consistent game in and game out. Although, Babar Azam is trying his best to change the attitude of the players, and with this series is hoping to put his team in the right direction. Babar Azam has plenty of quality players at his disposal and will hope to have an upper-hand in this game for the majority of the period, but this Ireland team is something else at home.

Hello and a warm welcome to all! We know that one expects an Indian T20 League to be covered at this time of the day, but as that league is into its business end. Our attention now has started to shift towards the upcoming T20 World Cup which is just around the corner. Also, Ireland and Pakistan have realised that their it is time to kick-start their preparations for the same. The two sides go up against each other in a 3-match T20I series, in Ireland's backyard and we are here to kick-start this series.

... MATCH DAY ...

The T20 World Cup 2024 is on the horizon, prompting teams to engage in bilateral series for preparation. Pakistan embarks on a tour of Ireland for a three-match T20I series, aiming to recover from a drawn home series against a weakened New Zealand side. Led by the experienced duo of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan's batting lineup exudes stability. Saim Ayub and Fakhar Zaman add firepower at the top, while Azam Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed, and Imad Wasim strengthen the middle order. With a formidable pace attack featuring Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, and Mohammad Amir, Pakistan boasts depth and versatility in bowling. Wasim's spin expertise and Shadab Khan's all-round skills further enhance their chances, making them clear favorites for the series. Ireland sees this series as an invaluable opportunity to gain vital match practice and potentially spring surprises. Paul Stirling leads the team both tactically and with the bat, alongside Andy Balbirnie, as they seek to provide explosive starts. The middle order boasts quality players like Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker, and Curtis Campher, eager to leave their mark ahead of the major event. Mark Adair and Barry McCarthy spearhead the pace attack, supported by Craig Young, while Ben White assumes the role of their key spinner. With a balanced unit, Ireland aims to seize every opportunity and pose a challenge to the formidable Pakistan side. This sets the stage for an intriguing contest, and fans eagerly await to witness which team emerges victorious.
