Right then, that is all we have from Eden Gardens and it is Hyderabad who have managed to get the better of the home side. On Saturday, the 15th of April, we have a double dose of action coming up. First up, it will be Bangalore going up against Delhi and that game will start at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT). The second game will be between Lucknow and Punjab. It will start at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). Do join us for the build-up of both games. Cheers!

Harry Brook is the Player of the Match for his fantastic century. He says it was a special night and he is thankful that they are on the winning side as it got tense in the middle. Mentions that opening the batting in T20 cricket is the best time to bat with only two fielders out and he is happy to do what the team needs. Claims that the crowd was phenomenal and he really enjoyed the atmosphere. Ends by saying that he was putting pressure on himself after the first few games and he was starting to doubt himself so wanted to go to bat with a different mindset.

Aiden Markram, the skipper of Hyderabad says that it feels good winning away from home. Tells that it was always going to be a tight game with the firepower of Kolkata and they knew the total they had was not safe. Mentions that in this venue he knew that it would be difficult to defend and credits his bowlers for showing character. States that he was fortunate that they got off to a great start and that made life easier, He also mentioned that they bat deep so there is freedom and applauds Harry for the ability he has and mentions that they wanted him to face as many balls as possible. Credits Bhuvneshwar Kumar as well and calls him Mr Reliable and mentions that there are a great bunch of guys in the team. Signs off by saying that cricket keeps teaching you lessons.

Time for the Presentation...

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is down for a quick chat. He says that they wanted to get wickets early but the way the opposition batted the 6th over got them on par but the plan was always to take wickets. Claims that he is not a big fan of bowling slower balls and variations but believes in bowling in the right places and making it difficult for the batters. Mentions that later, keeping the batters in mind he tried to execute the plans. Adds that 32 runs are not easy to get but they wanted Umran to bowl the first two balls without much advice and he did well. Tells that it is great to win away. Ends by saying that it was a top-class inning from Harry Brook and much needed as he was not among the runs and good to see him come to form as he can take on any bowling attack.

Nitish Rana, the skipper of Kolkata says that they did not bowl as per plans and to chase close to 230 is difficult. Mentions that what Rinku Singh did the other day is something that happens once in a while and can not expect that to happen every time. Explains that they wanted to take the game deep and knew that anything could be possible. He claims that you do want home conditions but that is how this pitch has played historically and they know they have the batting to post 200 runs. Ends by saying that batting was fun but two points would have given them more fun.

Time for some interviews...

Kolkata, on the other hand, will feel that they let things drift away too much with the ball. Their pacers were very expensive and that cost them in the end. With the bat, their skipper Rana played a blinder of a knock with 75 off 41 balls and Narayan Jagadeesan also played well for his 36 off 21 balls after Kolkata lost three early wickets. Then, the star of the last game for Kolkata, Rinku Singh also looked in supreme touch once again and along with his skipper kept the entertainment on. However, Rinku’s 58 off 31 balls was not enough in this game, and the Hyderabad camp rejoiced despite some anxious moments on the field.

Hyderabad were put into bat by Nitish Rana on a perfect batting deck with the hope of chasing it down later in the game. However, Hyderabad batters came out with great intent and Brook blasted a century to take Hyderabad to a mammoth total. It gave an extra cushion to their bowlers and they started well with the ball as well reducing Kolkata to 20-3 in the fourth over. Marco Jansen with his two wickets and Bhuvneshwar with his swing were pretty good at the start, but the spell of Mayank Markande and his two big wickets derailed Kolkata when they were looking to take charge. Rana and Rinku Singh did keep them in the chase with some clean hitting but they were always behind the 8-ball. In the end, the Hyderabad bowlers kept their cool to register an important away win.

Hyderabad have notched up an impressive win here at Eden Gardens! It is their second win in a row and they are now starting to gell as a unit after a disappointing start to their campaign. Kolkata, on the other hand, entertained the crowd yet again but could not finish on the right side of the result this time around.

Commentary

We are back for the second essay as the umpires stride out to the middle. The Hyderabad players are in a huddle at the boundary line before they take their respective fielding positions. Harry Brook will take a rest and Washington Sundar will take the field as an Impact Player. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Narayan Jagadeesan will open the batting for Kolkata. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has the new ball in his hand and will begin proceedings. Let's go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Right then, Kolkata have their task cut out trying to overcome this target but they will feel they are still in this game if the pitch plays the same way it did in the first innings. They have a strong batting line-up and with dew coming into the equation, it should ideally get a bit easier for the batters. Hyderabad will be looking for early wickets and will be hoping their pace bowlers are able to get their rhythm early to keep things tight. Will the hosts pull off yet another remarkable run chase? Or have the Hyderabad batters done enough to help them seal this win? We will find out shortly.

Harry Brook, the man of the moment, will share a few words. He says that it is not gripping and he had some trouble against spin in the past. Adds that it has been used as a match-up against him so he just tried to rotate the strike. Credits other batters for doing a great job against spin and mentions that it is a belter of a pitch. Feels that Kolkata have a good batting line-up and they need to bowl well. Informs that his family has gone back home except his girlfriend.

Hyderabad set the tone by scoring 14 runs in the first over as Harry Brook showed his intent early in the inning. Mayank Agarwal struggled to get going and Rahul Tripathi was dismissed in the same over by Andre Russell after collecting two boundaries. Aiden Markram came out to the middle and scored a wonderful half-century in just 25 deliveries to keep the momentum going as he added 72 runs in 47 balls with Harry Brook. Abhishek Sharma did not let the scoring rate fall after the dismissal of his skipper and scored 32 in 17 balls. This was however a Harry Brook show as he notched up an outstanding century as they crossed the 200-run mark with ease.

Harry Brook has announced himself at the Indian T20 League! His maiden century in this competition has helped Hyderabad post a mammoth total of 228 on the board and the visitors will feel like they have sufficient runs to defend here. This has been remarkable hitting for 20 overs and as expected the pitch has been a batting paradise so far. The Kolkata bowlers had a poor day in the office and barring Sunil Narine, all the bowlers conceded in excess of 10 runs per over. Andre Russell picked up three wickets but limped off the field with a foot injury and Varun Chakaravarthy chipped in with one. They have left their batters with an uphill task to climb.

Strategic break! It has been a fantastic game so far and though Kolkata need 70 off 24 balls, they are not out of it. Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh are hitting it clean and we can never rule out the possibility of another Kolkata heist here. Hyderabad, on the other hand, need their bowlers to keep their cool and do their basics right. They are still ahead of this game and need to execute their skills well in the final phase of this game. An exciting finish awaits us! T Natarajan is back on. Two overs for 26 runs so far.

The traditional Bell rings and outwalk the two on-field umpires. The Kolkata players are in the huddle and they disperse now to take their respective positions. Harry Brook and Mayank Agarwal are the openers for Hyderabad. Umesh Yadav to start the proceedings with the ball. Here we go...

So, here we are at Eden Gardens. The atmosphere is electric as it always is at the Eden Gardens and let's hope for another last-over thriller! Can the sleeping giant, Andre Russell fire today? Let's find out.

Rahul Tripathi is up for a chat and he says that he is happy he could contribute in the last game and would like to continue that process. Adds that it is a different opposition and it would be a new challenge. Mentions that he played for Kolkata during the covid days and says that he played the situation better in the last game. Tells that their bowlers bowled pretty well in the last game and they had the target in their sights which helped them. Feels that T20 is about taking risks and putting the bowler under pressure.

Aiden Markram the captain of Hyderabad says that they would have looked to bowl first but looks like a good wicket so he does not mind batting first as well. Claims that he is happy with the win in the last game but feels that the players were doing well either way. Informs that Abhishek Sharma comes into the side in place of Washington Sundar. Mentions that they do not have a target in mind but they will get out there to assess the conditions and whatever they put on the board, they will look to defend.

Nitish Rana the skipper of Kolkata says that they will bowl first. Tells that they saw some dew during practice in the last few games and so have decided to bowl first. Informs that they are going with an unchanged XI.

Impact Players for Kolkata - Mandeep Singh, Anukul Roy, Venkatesh Iyer, David Wiese, Kulwant Khejroliya.

Kolkata (Playing XI) - Rahmanullah Gurbaz (WK), Narayan Jagadeesan, Nitish Rana (C), Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Shardul Thakur, Umesh Yadav, Lockie Ferguson, Varun Chakaravarthy, Suyash Sharma.

Hyderabad (Playing XI) - Harry Brook, Mayank Agarwal, Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram (C), Heinrich Klaasen (WK), Abhishek Sharma (In place of Washington Sundar), Marco Jansen, Mayank Markande, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan, Umran Malik.

TOSS - The captains are out in the middle. The coin is flipped into the air and lands in favor of Kolkata. They have elected to BOWL first.

Unlike other teams in the tournament where batters hold the fort, the visitors are heavily reliant on their bowling unit to set the tone for their games. They have a strong fast-bowling contingent comprising both Indian as well as overseas talent and have a perfect blend of youth and experience at their disposal. They have handy spinners in their rank as well who will come into play in favourable home conditions but they fall slightly short in the batting department. The onus to score runs falls heavily on their skipper Aiden Markram and the middle order but they can definitely hold their own when required to do so. Will they get back-to-back wins by beating the two-time champions? Or will Kolkata make it three wins in a row and climb up the table? We will find out soon. Stay tuned for the toss and team updates.

Kolkata had a slightly unlucky start as they lost to Punjab in their opening game courtesy of the DLS Method but came out stronger from the disappointment and won their next two games beating an in-form Bangalore team at home as well as the reigning champions in their backyard. In both games, the top order was unable to make big contributions but they managed to score an excess of 200 with the help of their middle and lower-order batters. They possess a bunch of mystery spinners in their ranks which makes them formidable on turning surfaces and they also have a well-equipped pace bowling attack. They will still be expecting more from their batters up the order as they cannot pull off a Rinku Singh in every game.

Hello, and a warm welcome, ladies and gentlemen to our coverage of match number 19 in the 16th edition of the Indian T20 League as the boys from Kolkata will host the team from Hyderabad in the beautiful Eden Gardens which is the oldest cricket stadium in India. Both teams come into this game on the back of crucial wins and we expect some high-octane action as they look to maintain their winning momentum. A positive result for the visitors here will take them level on points with the hosts with two wins and two losses each but Kolkata can also build a nice gap with a victory.

... MATCH DAY ...

With summer taking over most cities of India, the 16th edition of the Indian T20 League gathers momentum and we must say that it is living up to the expectations and thrill we were so eagerly looking forward to. There have been some absolute nail-biters that have gone down to the last ball with some players coming out of these clashes as cult heroes for their fans while others share the agony of their supporters as they find themselves on the wrong side of the results. Most teams have played a handful of games and while some have found their winning mantra, others still struggle to find their best playing XI. The tournament is still at its adolescent stage and any side could string together a run of wins to find themselves in contention for the playoff spots. We focus our attention on game number 19 as Kolkata host Hyderabad at the Eden Gardens in the City of Joy and both teams arrive at this fixture on the back of crucial wins in the context of their campaign. Kolkata have managed to bring their title hunt on track with consecutive wins after losing their opening tie against Punjab comprehensively. Their last win came against the reigning champions from Gujarat with Rinku Singh pulling off the spectacular by smashing 5 sixes on the last five deliveries of the game to etch his name in the franchise’s folklore. The visitors started the season poorly as they suffered two massive defeats in their first two games but a win against Punjab in the last match will add some optimism to the ranks. They seem to be buoyed by the arrival of their South African contingent with Aiden Markram leading the side this season and Harry Brook seems to have been given the opener's role along with Mayank Agarwal. They have a decent middle order comprising Rahul Tripathi, Heinrich Klaasen, and the skipper but early wickets tend to expose their big hitters far too early and they lack sufficient batting reinforcements in the lower order. This is mainly due to their strategy of playing five genuine bowlers with a sixth full-time option who can bat and therefore have built a strong pace bowling contingent that includes Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Marco Jansen, Fazalhaq Farooqi, T Natarajan, and Umran Malik. They have Adil Rashid, Akeal Hosein, Mayank Markande, and Washington Sundar as serious slow-bowling options on tracks that are more conducive to spin. The hosts seem to have got some momentum in their batting department after accumulating in excess of 200 runs in their last two fixtures with one coming in the first inning and the next one in a successful run chase. Rahmanullah Gurbaz has shown glimpses of attacking acumen but has failed to find a fixed partner at the other end. Venkatesh Iyer did not make much of an impact as an opener but his devastating knock at number 3 in the last match will cement his place in that spot which leaves Mandeep Singh and Narayan Jagadeesan as options to partner the Afghani wicket-keeper batter. Rinku Singh's contributions in the last two matches were paramount in his team's success and Kolkata will be delighted with the captain Nitish Rana collecting some runs under his belt. The biggest worry for them is the form of their blockbuster player Andre Russell who has scored 1 run in his last two innings including a golden duck which has been a norm for his West Indian teammate Sunil Narine who has been dismissed on his first ball in both matches. Shardul Thakur has proved to be more than handy with the bat and forms a part of the pace unit comprising Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson, and Umesh Yadav. Their main strength lies in their mystery spinners Sunil Narine, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Suyash Sharma who could weave a web around any batting unit on their day. Hyderabad may look to stick to their winning combination in this game but we could see Kolkata bring in some of their overseas players like Jason Roy, David Wiese, and Litton Das into the lineup. The temperature will be soaring through the day but there should be some respite as evening approaches and the game will be played under lights. Which team will continue its winning momentum after this enthralling fixture? We will find out soon.
