That is it from this game and it is Chennai who have made it two wins on the trot whereas Mumbai have lost two in a row. On Sunday, the 9th of April, there's another doubleheader lined up for the fans. First up, it will be Gujarat taking on Kolkata in Ahmedabad and that game will begin at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT). That game will be followed by a clash between Hyderabad and Punjab in Hyderabad beginning at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT) but our build-up for both those games will begin much sooner. Do join us then. Till then, take care and goodbye!

Ravindra Jadeja (4-0-20-3) is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his brilliant spell of spin bowling. Jadeja says that when they were bowling, the odd ball was spinning and they had a chat about bowling in the good areas. Adds that every time they come here, the wicket plays differently as sometimes it is flat and sometimes it is sticky or dry and they have to prepare for that. Mentions that he and Mitchell Santner keep talking in between overs about how the wicket is playing and how should they vary their pace and lengths.

MS Dhoni, the skipper of Chennai, says that it feels good to get the win. Adds that it was a different challenge losing Deepak Chahar in the first over and with Sisanda Magala playing his first game. Feels that the spinners bowled really well and adds that it was a two-paced wicket. Shares that the wicket wasn't turning initially but once it did, the spinners made good use of it. Mentions that Sisanda Magala bounced back well and it was a good effort to restrict Mumbai to under 160. On Tushar Deshpande, he says that they believe in him and he has the potential to be more consistent. On Ajinkya Rahane, he says that he had a chat with him at the start of the competition and had discussed his role and adds that he wants him to back his strengths. Ends by saying that all games are important in the competition and the first target is to win enough games for qualification.

The presentation ceremony...

The man of the moment, Ajinkya Rahane is down for a quick chat. He says that he really enjoyed it and he got to know just before the toss that Moeen Ali is unwell and he would get to play. Adds that he wants to play to his strength which is playing proper cricketing shots and looking to time the ball rather than slog it away. Mentions that you have to be ready for your opportunity as the tournament is a long one. Says that he always enjoys playing at Wankhede and it's all about playing proper cricketing shots. Adds that the thing about MS Dhoni and Stephen Fleming is that they back their players and luckily he was ready.

Rohit Sharma, the captain of Mumbai, starts by saying that they lost their way in the middle and could not capitalize on the start. Feels that they were 30-40 runs short considering the start they got. Credits the Chennai spinners for keeping them under pressure. Shares that they need to try out different things and need to be brave. Mentions that it is important to give the young guys some time and back them by showing trust. Also says that senior guys need to step up with the bat. Feels that getting momentum at the start of the tournament is important. Ends by saying that they need to learn from these two games and need to be braver.

Earlier in the game, Mumbai were put into bat by MS Dhoni and they got off to a sensational start as well. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan both looked in the zone but once Rohit fell, the Mumbai innings started going downhill. Ravindra Jadeja and Mitchell Santner stemmed the flow of runs and some excellent catching allowed them to pick up wickets at regular intervals. Tilak Varma and Hrithik Shokeen played decent little innings and it was Tim David who hit a few lusty blows to take Mumbai over the 150-run mark. Jadeja picked up three wickets and took a stunning catch off his own bowling whereas Santner picked up two and Tushar Deshpande showed his class with a couple of wickets as well. Coming to the chase, after the early hiccup, Chennai never looked back and went on to seal a dominant victory thanks to Ajinkya Rahane who broke the back of the chase inside the Powerplay itself.

Mumbai started their campaign off with a loss and have now gone on to lose their first game at home as well. They threw away a bright start with the bat and after picking up a wicket in the very first over, they failed to capitalize as well. Jason Behrendorff was solid up top but Arshad Khan was taken to the cleaners by Ajinkya Rahane and the spinners too weren't able to control things in the middle phase. The Impact Player, Kumar Kartikeya did bowl well and picked up a wicket as well but by then the game was pretty much out of Mumbai's reach. They will now look to bounce back quickly and try to get a win in their next game.

Chennai didn't have a big target at hand but lost Devon Conway in the very first over which might have put them on the back foot. But, Ajinkya Rahane had other plans as he came in and simply timed the ball to perfection finding boundaries with utmost ease. Ruturaj Gaikwad, generally the aggressor, played second fiddle as Rahane brought up the fastest fifty of this year's tournament before eventually getting out for 61 off just 27 balls. Shivam Dube then came in and built a nice partnership with Gaikwad and it was the latter who stayed on till the end and remained unbeaten on 40 as Ambati Rayudu finished things off in style.

Chennai have taken the bragging rights in the first El Classico of the season that too away from home and have made it back-to-back wins. A dominant display from the away side and they will be pretty content with it.

Commentary

We are back for the chase. Rohit Sharma and co. are seen in a huddle near the ropes. The two Chennai openers make their way out to the middle followed by the Mumbai players. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway will open the innings for Chennai. Jason Behrendorff will start with the new ball for Mumbai. Here we go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Right then, Chennai would certainly be the happier side at the halfway mark. However, their batters have a challenging task ahead of them considering the turning nature of the wicket. On the other hand, Mumbai would have liked a few runs more but they have something to bowl at. Can their bowlers make a match out of this? We shall find out shortly. Back in a bit for the chase...

Mitchell Santner is in for a flash interview. He says that the total on board is a bit below par and reckons that the ball is holding in the pitch. Adds that the pitch started off flat but it changed as the innings went on and a few balls gripped as well. Mentions that after a few years, they got to play at home and now playing in this stadium and in front of this crowd is a special thing.

After MS Dhoni called it right and opted to bowl first, Chennai were dealt an early blow when Deepak Chahar experienced discomfort in his hamstring and walked off the field after bowling the first over. At that point, it seemed like Chennai would be left scratching their heads for bowling options but the spin twins stepped up big time. Ravindra Jadeja and Mitchell Santner spun a web around the opposition batters and never allowed them to gain any momentum. This performance rubbed on the likes of Tushar Deshpande and Sisanda Magala who found themselves among the wickets as well. Dwaine Pretorius did bowl an expensive final over and Chennai would be hoping that it does not come back to haunt them.

Hrithik Shokeen's final over flourish has helped Mumbai finish well and end up with a fighting total on the board. After being put into bat, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan showed signs of intent straightaway and got going with a flurry of boundaries. Rohit's stay was cut short by Tushar Deshpande but Ishan Kishan ensured that Mumbai ended the Powerplay on a high. However, his departure triggered a mini-collapse as Mumbai kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Tilak Varma looked good but even he was unable to bail his side of trouble. Tim David struggled for timing initially but provided a much-needed impetus to the Mumbai innings before departing. In the final over, it was Hrithik Shokeen who threw his bat at everything and helped Mumbai cross the 155-run mark.

Ends with a dot does Dwaine Pretorius, or does he? Pretorius seems to have nailed the wide yorker but Hrithik Shokeen takes the review. The replays show that the ball is just beyond the tramline but also that Shokeen moved and the on-field decision stands. Pretorius ends with a dot but 16 runs come off the final over. Mumbai finish with 157/8 on the board!

19.54

FOUR! Hrithik Shokeen is finishing with a flourish here for Mumbai. A full toss around off, Shokeen lofts it over the mid off region and picks up a boundary.

19.51wd

WIDE! Full and wide, a bit too wide though for the umpire's liking.

19.44

FOUR! Another top edge and the 150 is now up for Mumbai. Bangs in a bumper now over the stumps, Hrithik Shokeen looks to take it on but gets a top edge that flies over the keeper's head for a boundary.

19.31

Back of a length around off stump, Piyush Chawla half-pulls it in front of square leg and picks up a run.

19.21b

Bye! Slower one, full and wide, gets it right this time. Hrithik Shokeen throws his hands at it but misses. The keeper, MS Dhoni gets a bad bounce and fails to collect the ball. The batters scamper through for a bye.

19.21wd

WIDE! Tries to go full and wide now but spills it beyond the tramline.

19.14

FOUR! Streaky but Hrithik Shokeen and Mumbai will take it. Length ball around middle, Shokeen shapes up for the big heave across the line but gets a top edge that lobs up over short third man and goes away into the fence.

On the contrary, Mumbai were going along nicely with the opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan in the middle. Since their departure, Mumbai have lost their way, losing wickets in a clump. We are all set for the game to begin! The umpires are out in the middle and so are the players of Chennai. Skipper Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan will open the innings for Mumbai. Deepak Chahar has the new ball in hand and is raring to go. Let's play...

Rohit Sharma, the captain of Mumbai, says that they would have bowled first as well. Adds that Wankhede has always been a good pitch to bat and has something in it for the bowlers. Shares that the mood has been upbeat despite the loss and mentions that they have trained well. States that they have spoken about what went wrong and hopes to correct it in this game. Informs that Jofra Archer has been rested as a precautionary measure. Ends by saying that it is great to be back at Wankhede and he is looking forward to this game.

MS Dhoni, the skipper of Chennai, informs that they will bowl first. Adds that this is one of the most memorable venues not only because of the 2011 ODI World Cup win but also due to the reception they got after returning from the 2007 T20 World Cup victory. Shares that the wickets here are generally good and the batters can play their shots. Informs that there are a few injury concerns and adds that Moeen Ali and Ben Stokes are not available. Mentions that Ajinkya Rahane and Dwaine Pretorius are the two guys who come in.

Impact Players nominated by Chennai - Ambati Rayudu, Akash Singh, Subhranshu Senapati, Shaik Rasheed and Rajvardhan Hangargekar.

Chennai (Playing XI) - Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devon Conway, Ajinkya Rahane, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (C/WK), Shivam Dube, Dwaine Pretorius, Deepak Chahar, Mitchell Santner, Sisanda Magala, Tushar Deshpande.

Impact Players nominated by Mumbai - Ramandeep Singh, Sandeep Warrier, Arjun Tendulkar, Kumar Kartikeya and Nehal Wadhera.

Mumbai (Playing XI) - Rohit Sharma (C), Ishan Kishan (WK), Cameron Green, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Tim David, Tristan Stubbs, Arshad Khan, Hrithik Shokeen, Jason Behrendorff, Piyush Chawla.

TOSS - The two captains are out in the middle. The coin toss lands in the favour of MS Dhoni and Chennai have opted to BOWL first.

PITCH REPORT - Ian Bishop is near the deck. He starts by informing that the leg side boundary for the right-handed batter is short. Adds that the boundaries behind square are short as well. Shares that there is a lot of grass on the wicket but no big patches. Feels that the bowl will move a bit considering the grass but reckons that the ball will come nicely onto the bat if there is dew.

On the flip side, Chennai come into this game on the back of a solid win in their last outing against Lucknow. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway have done well at the top, and Chennai will need Moeen Ali and Ben Stokes to bat around them. The pace bowling has not been clinical, but the spin of Moeen Ali and Mitchell Santner has been promising. Over the years, we have seen Chennai and Mumbai put on a show, and tonight’s fixture promises to be no exception. Who are you backing to come out on top? Stick around, as the toss and team news is not far away...

After having a miserable season last year, Mumbai took on Bangalore in their opening encounter, where they suffered a defeat. Tilak Varma though picked up where he left off, and he will require support from Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Ishan Kishan. The pace duo of Jofra Archer and Jason Behrendorff lacked sharpness and would want to put up an improved display. Five-time winners, Mumbai will look to reset from that loss and bounce back in their first home game of the season.

It’s time for the first El Clasico of this year’s Indian T20 League, where the league’s two most successful teams will lock horns and add another chapter to this rivalry's legacy. Hello and a warm welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to our coverage of Match 12 of the Indian T20 League, 2023, which sees Mumbai host Chennai at the Wankhede Stadium.

... MATCH DAY …

Time flies! Well, it certainly does in the Indian T20 League. It is now time for the 12th Match. In this game, Mumbai will be locking horns against Chennai. Mumbai are coming into this game with a loss on their back, but they will be glad that they are facing Chennai in front of their home crowd. Also, we know that these two sides only provide us with nail-biting thrillers, we shall expect nothing less this time around. Mumbai have started their campaign with a loss, this is nothing new for them and they will be hoping to open their account in this cracking encounter. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan will be eyeing to set a solid platform, which allows the rest of the pack to flex its muscles as well. Also, Mumbai have a new entry in the squad, as Riley Meredith replaces Jhye Richardson. We will have to see if he will be included in the playing XI straightaway. Chennai, on the flip side, have the winning momentum on their side coming into this game. They have a great batting depth and could be dangerous if their batters get going from the word go. Will Mumbai be able to record their first win of the campaign? Or will Dhoni's men extend their winning run? We shall find out together.
