That is it from this game and the shift in the Indian T20 League table continues with teams formerly in a comfortable position losing games at the wrong time and allowing others to pounce. Next up is a clash between high-flying Chennai and a resurgent Delhi side in Chennai on Wednesday, the 10th of May. That game will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT) but our build-up will begin much sooner. Cheers!

Suryakumar Yadav is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his terrific knock of 83 runs from just 35 balls. He says that it was important for the team to come home and win like this and he is very happy. Adds that the opposition came up with a plan and tried to make him hit to the longer side and did not give him pace but the chat between him and Nehal Wadhera was to hit hard and find gaps and just keep things simple. Mentions that you have to practice the same way you do in a match and he tries to put himself under pressure in the net sessions and gets out of his comfort zone. Ends by saying that he knows where his runs are and he does not try to do anything different.

Rohit Sharma, the captain of Mumbai says that he knew the pitch was very good for batting and it was all about how you apply yourself. On Akash Madhwal, he says that he was with them last year as well and tells that he told him these are tough overs to bowl but he is up for the challenge and is a bit of a leader as well. Adds that he has no idea what a good score batting first would have been here and the nature of the pitch is such that regular scores of 200 or more happen here. Says that one thing he has noticed this season is that teams and individuals are taking more and more risks and it's coming off as well and that is why we are seeing more scores of over 200 runs, both being made and being chased as well.

The Presentation ceremony...

One of the top players for Mumbai in this game, Nehal Wadhera is down for a chat. Wadhera says that it was fun batting up the order and it feels good to get back-to-back fifties. Adds that he is happy with the win and tells that Wankhede is a ground where 200 is chasable and they played two practice games where they chased 200 which gave them more confidence. Praises Suryakumar Yadav and says that the chat was to stay there till the 15th over and they can finish the game. Mentions that he had the confidence that he can finish the game. Says that he sometimes tries to copy some of the shots that Suryakumar Yadav plays but cannot. Ends by saying that he grabs certain tips from him and hopes that he can continue this and learn more things.

The Bangalore skipper, Faf du Plessis says that they knew anything under 220 here was not safe with the batting that Mumbai have in their ranks. Adds that they are disappointed with the batting as they couldn't capitalize in the last five overs. Tells that they had to play the bluff card and say that 200 was enough. Mentions that the pace on deliveries were a little bit easier to play and it was important to change the pace. Praises Suryakumar Yadav for his incredible knock and says that he is one of the greatest players currently and it is really difficult to bowl to him as he has everything in his locker. Further adds that he makes a captain looks grey as you feel helpless. Credits Mohammed Siraj for his efforts and tells that he kept everyone quiet for some time but it is the nature of this format as people will come after you at some point in time.

Earlier in the game, Rohit Sharma won the toss and had no hesitation in bowling first on a flat track. Mumbai started off brilliantly with the ball as Jason Behrendorff sent Virat Kohli and Anuj Rawat packing within the first 3 overs. However, that was the best it got for Mumbai for a while. Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell counter-attacked sensationally for Bangalore and went on to form a big partnership, notching up individual fifties in the process as well. In the second half of the first innings, Mumbai managed to get rid of Maxwell and from there Bangalore started to fumble. Dinesh Karthik did play a decent cameo but they managed to get to only 199 runs. Jason Behrendorff picked up three wickets and was very consistent but it was Kumar Kartikeya's spell that actually turned things in Mumbai's favour. Coming to the chase, the hosts came out with intent and just kept on getting the big hits away before eventually sealing the game with plenty of balls to spare.

Bangalore seem to be losing momentum at the wrong time and have now gone on to lose yet another game trying to defend. They were short by 15-20 runs with the bat and started off poorly with the ball as well. Mohammed Siraj and Josh Hazlewood, their frontline pacers were put under pressure early and failed to recover much. Wanindu Hasaranga did get a double breakthrough in his first over but conceded many runs in the final two overs of his spell. The likes of Vyshak Vijay Kumar and Harshal Patel were simply off the pace and were dealt with ease by the Mumbai batters. They also missed a trick by not playing Kedar Jadhav in the line-up and using him as an Impact Player as this didn't allow them to bring on an extra bowler during the chase.

Mumbai needed 200 to win on a deck that was excellent for batting and it was certainly chasable. Ishan Kishan got them off to a stellar start as he went berserk in the Powerplay and smashed the opposition bowlers everywhere. It was another disappointing outing for skipper Rohit Sharma though but it didn't matter much in this game. Kishan fell going after the bowling after which Suryakumar Yadav and Nehal Wadhera stitched together a stellar stand. The pair were a bit watchful to start with but got away with boundaries and then just went into overdrive. They put on 140 big runs out of which SKY notched up 83 runs off just 35 deliveries and was unstoppable in the latter part of that inning. He got out right at the death but Wadhera finished things off with a maximum and notched up another classy half-century.

WHAT A WIN! Mumbai gunned down 200 or more runs for the third time this season and now rocketed up to third position in the points table. It was a pretty impressive batting performance from them in front of a vociferous home crowd and this win will give them a lot of momentum heading into the next few games.

Commentary

We are back for the chase! The Bangalore players are in a huddle where Virat Kohli is trying to motivate them. Now, they spread out to take their respective field positions. The usual opening pair for Mumbai is back as Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan stride out to the middle. Mohammed Siraj to start proceedings with the ball. Here we go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Right then, Bangalore have posted a big total on the board but they know that they will have to bowl really well to defend this one as the wicket looks really good for batting. Mumbai have a long batting line-up and they will need every bit of that if they want to gun this down. It is going to be an exciting chase. Join us in a bit to see how it unfolds.

Glenn Maxwell is up for a quick chat. He says that he enjoyed his time out in the middle and tried to have a bit of fun. Adds that they played well for a bout a phase of 10 overs and after the 13-14th over mark, they lost a bit of momentum and also says that there were a few balls that kept low. Mentions that he tried to stay positive and tried to play the field as much as possible.

Mumbai, on the other hand, were hot and cold with their bowling effort. Jason Behrendorff started brilliantly by getting rid of Kohli in the first over and then removed Rawat in his next over. Nehal Wadhera also dropped Faf when he did not even open his account and that proved to be costly for them. They could not build on the good start as they were blown away by the Faf-Maxi duo. However, once again it was Behrendorff who came in for his last over and got the crucial wicket of Maxwell after which they kind of pulled things back a bit. Jason Behrendorff was obviously the pick of the bowlers with his three wickets while Chris Jordan, Cameron Green, and Kumar Kartikeya chipped in with one each.

Bangalore did not get off to a good start like they usually do as they lost Virat Kohli in the very first who tried to take on the bowler. Anuj Rawat also did make any sort of impact at Number 3. Once again it was their skipper, Faf du Plessis who held one end while stacking up the runs but it was Glenn Maxwell who absolutely changed the momentum and smashed it all around the park. The duo counter-attacked the hosts and made batting look easy as they were finding the boundaries on regular occasions. It was looking like they would go well past 200. Both of them registered fantastic fifties and added 120 runs together but got out in quick succession which shifted the momentum again. Faf made 65 off 41 balls and Maxi notched up 68 off 33 balls. The platform was set for Dinesh Karthik to fire and he did not disappoint as he played a quick cameo of 30 off 18 to take them near the 200-run mark. Another thing is that they used their Impact Player when Kedar Jadhav replaced Mahipal Lomror and they will not be able to get in that extra bowler to defend this total.

A fine battle between bat and ball comes to an end! Also, what a last over from Akash Madhwal. He only conceded six runs. It was a really topsy-turvy first half of this game as at some points it looked like Mumbai were on top and in the blink of an eye Bangalore came crawling in and this continued throughout the innings. The visitors will be a bit disappointed as they couldn't breach the 200-run mark which gives the host that psychological advantage going into the break.

Just a single to end and only 6 runs come off the final over, brilliant from Akash Madhwal! Gets in another yorker, this time around middle and leg. Wanindu Hasaranga tries to back away and play it on the off side but gets an inside edge onto the legs. The batters manage to scamper through for a run and Bangalore finish with 199/6 on the board!

19.51

Excellent bowling yet again. This is very full and on off stump, Kedar Jadhav hits it down to long off and picks up just a single.

19.41

Full and quick, at the base of the stumps, Wanindu Hasaranga backs away and opens the bat face to guide it toward third man for a run. Just 4 off the final over so far, a good one for Mumbai!

19.32

A high full toss around middle, Wanindu Hasaranga hangs back and hits it away straight down the ground. The man from long on tidies up and the batters get back for a brace.

19.21

Full and quick, angled into the leg pole, Kedar Jadhav manages to heave it away past square leg and picks up a single.

19.10

Full and angling it into the legs, Kedar Jadhav looks to whip it away but misses. The ball thuds into the pads and rolls toward backward point.

Who will bowl the last over? It will be Akash Madhwal. He conceded 17 runs in his first over.

FOUR! Streaky but will do nicely for Mumbai! Length ball, quick and outside off, Wanindu Hasaranga stays deep in his crease and goes hard at it. The ball goes off the outside edge and runs away into the third man fence.

18.50

Another slower one, keeps it outside off but pulls back the length a bit. Wanindu Hasaranga swings hard but only connects with thin air.

18.44

FOUR! Nicely played! A bit too full and outside off, Wanindu Hasaranga opens the face of the blade and slices it away well wide of the fielder at third man for a boundary.

18.30

Another golden dot ball! Full and wide, a bit slower, Wanindu Hasaranga looks to hang back and throws the kitchen sink at it but doesn't connect.

18.20

Pace on now, 141 clicks and gets it full and wide. Wanindu Hasaranga tries to reach out and drive but is beaten.

Wanindu Hasaranga comes out to the middle now.

18.1W

OUT! CAUGHT! A bit of redemption for Chris Jordan here as he does get Dinesh Karthik out. Bowls a heavy off-cutter into the deck and keeps it over the stumps. Karthik hangs back and tries to pull it away but gets undone for the lack of pace and is through his shot early. The ball travels flat and toward deep mid-wicket where Nehal Wadhera takes a solid catch. End of a good cameo from Karthik though.

Chris Jordan to continue and bowl the penultimate over.

17.46

17.30

This is floated up just down the leg side, Dinesh Karthik looks to get inside the line and sweep but misses. No wide is called and there is an appeal for caught behind as well. Rohit Sharma though doesn't opt for the review. The replays show that there was no bat on it, just the pad.

17.24

FOUR! Punished! Fired in outside off, Dinesh Karthik just frees his arms and hammers it away wide of the man at sweeper cover for another boundary.

All in readiness for the game to begin! The two umpires make their way out to the middle as the players of Mumbai are seen in a huddle around the boundary ropes. It will be the pair of skipper Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli to open the innings for Bangalore. Jason Behrendorff has the new ball in hand and is raring to go. Let's play...

Faf du Plessis, the captain of Bangalore says that it is a ground where you generally chase down targets but reckons that a big score will create scoreboard pressure. Adds that Mumbai have a good batting line-up but hopefully they can pick up wickets inside the Powerplay. Mentions that there are a few teams contesting for the third and fourth spot so they need to play good cricket. Informs that Vyshak Vijay Kumar comes in for Karn Sharma.

Mumbai skipper, Rohit Sharma says that they will bowl first. Adds that they have chased down targets well and the wicket looks good too. Tells that it is a typical Mumbai pitch as there is an even covering of grass and a bit of moisture as well. Mentions that they know the importance of this game but they always try to play good cricket in every game and that will not change. Informs that the news is already out about Jofra Archer, so he is out for the season and Chris Jordan comes in for him to make his debut for them.

Impact Players nominated by Bangalore - Kedar Jadhav, Michael Bracewell, Suyash Prabhudessai, Karn Sharma, Shahbaz Ahmed.

Bangalore (Playing XI) - Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis (C), Anuj Rawat, Glenn Maxwell, Mahipal Lomror, Dinesh Karthik (WK), Wanindu Hasaranga, Josh Hazlewood, Mohammed Siraj, Vyshak Vijay Kumar (In for Karn Sharma), Harshal Patel.

PITCH REPORT - Aaron Finch is pitchside. He says that the wicket looks like a batting paradise. Adds that there is even covering of grass but there is also a little bit of moisture which might help the spinners in the first innings. Reckons it is going to be an epic contest.

Bangalore, on the other hand also suffered a loss in their last game against Delhi who are at the bottom of the table. They have also been very inconsistent and are dependent on Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, and Glenn Maxwell to score the bulk of runs. However, Mahipal Lomror did play a great knock in the last game and they will hope that he can continue that in their middle order. Mohammed Siraj led their bowling attack well in the first phase of the tournament but he has gone for runs in the last couple of games but now he has the experience and support of Josh Hazlewood which makes them a bit more dangerous. They will hope that everything falls into place and they get the victory. Will they be able to do the double over Mumbai? Or will the home side avenge their previous defeat? We will find out soon. Toss and team news in a bit.

Mumbai are coming into this game on the back of a  defeat to their arch-rivals, Chennai in their last game and will hope to bounce back in this one. Their famed top order has been inconsistent with their skipper, Rohit Sharma not firing at all. However, they have managed to win a couple of games due to the incredible batting from SKY and Tim David which is a positive for them. Their bowling has not been up to the mark either and they have suffered another massive blow as Jofra Archer is ruled out of the season due to an injury. They have named Chris Jordan as his replacement who can help them with their death bowling which has cost them a lot. Once again, Piyush Chawla will be crucial if they want to get the two points here.

Hello and a warm welcome folks! It is almost time for yet another blockbuster clash in the Indian T20 League 2023. We have seen these two best friends open the innings for India and score runs for fun but here they go up against each other. Yes, it is Rohit vs Kohli as Mumbai clash against Bangalore at the Wankhede Stadium in a crucial game as both sides will look to strengthen their playoff hopes in the tournament.

... MATCH DAY ...

It is now time for Match number 54 in the 2023 Indian T20 League as Mumbai take on Bangalore at the Wankhede Stadium in what is a very crucial encounter in the context of the tournament. Two fan-favourite sides go head-to-head in Mumbai and both sides are neck and neck, only separated by net run rate on the table. Bangalore are slightly ahead of Mumbai in the table and did win the reverse fixture that took place in Bangalore earlier in the tournament. Since then, Bangalore have put on a few impressive performances but have also let go off a couple of matches that they could have won. Mumbai, on the other hand, didn't start the tournament well as usual but have slowly and surely gotten into the thick of things. The hosts' middle order has been in fine form and now with the likes of Nehal Wadhera firing as well, only the opening pair remains a concern for them. They tried to switch things up last time around against Chennai by sending Cameron Green out to open but it didn't work and then Rohit Sharma who came in at number 3 got out soon as well. They have a few injury concerns with Tilak Varma, their most consistent batter in the last couple of seasons, still, a doubt for this game and their overseas pace battery has got a few injury issues as well. Piyush Chawla though has turned back the clock and is enjoying his most successful campaign ever in terms of wickets in this competition. If their top order can fire and the pace attack can start well with the ball, then Mumbai are a very dangerous side. Bangalore have blown hot and cold all season with over-reliance on the top order with the bat and then the bowling attack also not being up to the mark. Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli have shown amazing consistency but Dinesh Karthik hasn't been able to replicate his death-over antics from the previous seasons and hasn't been able to finish off games. The likes of Mahipal Lomror and Glenn Maxwell have played a few handy knocks but they need more from the other batters. On the bowling front, Mohammed Siraj has been brilliant in the Powerplay but there have been a few occasions when the batters have taken him on and he has crumbled a bit under pressure. Josh Hazlewood's return is a big plus but Wanindu Hasaranga just hasn't taken enough wickets in that middle phase and Bangalore haven't quite been able to stop runs at the death as well with Harshal Patel blowing hot and cold as well. The visitors did win the reverse fixture and will look to do the double but all in all, there hardly seems to be anything between the two and it should be another close encounter. Who are you backing?
