Commentary

Right then, that's all from the opening game of the 2024 Netherlands T20I Tri-Series where the Netherlands came out on top in clinical fashion. Next up on Sunday, the 19th of May, the Netherlands will be in action again as Scott Edwards and Co. take on Paul Stirling-led Ireland. The Dutch will be aiming to make it two wins in a row, while the Irish will be looking to get off to a winning start. The game will commence at 8.30 pm IST (3 pm GMT), but as always, our build-up will begin much sooner. See you then. Cheers!

Vivian Kingma is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his stellar four-wicket haul, paving the way for a comfortable Dutch win.

Time for the presentation ceremony...

Earlier in the game, after being inserted into bat, the Netherlands got off to a brisk start. Michael Levitt took his chances and ensured a favourable Powerplay for his side. Max O'Dowd had a scratchy stay at the crease, as did Scott Edwards and both were dismissed in successive overs. Vikramjit Singh then breathed life into the Dutch innings by taking the attack to the opposition. However, after Vikramjit fell for 39, the Netherlands struggled to finish strongly. Despite Teja Nidamanuru's efforts, the Netherlands had to settle for 167. For Scotland, Gavin Main was the most economical bowler and had two wickets to show for his efforts.

In their pursuit of 168 runs, Scotland were rocked early, losing their top three within the first four overs to some quality seam bowling. Matthew Cross and Richie Berrington then got together and kept the scoreboard ticking with ones and twos. As the required run rate climbed to 11, Berrington felt the need to accelerate but perished in the attempt. From there, Cross kept running out of partners, making it increasingly difficult to keep up with the required rate. Cross was eventually dismissed for 49 and went with him the hopes of Scotland. In the end, Scotland succumbed to a defeat by 41 runs.

Netherlands get the job done through a masterful bowling effort! The Dutch have outclassed Scotland and kicked off their final leg of the T20 World Cup preparations with a clinical win. Given that they had not that big a total, wickets in the Powerplay were crucial for Scott Edwards and Co. It went just according to the plan for them as Vivian Kingma and Logan van Beek blew away the Scottish top order. Just as the partnership between Matthew Cross and Richie Berrington was threatening to explode, the debutant, Daniel Doram helped his side open one end up by removing Berrington. After getting that opening, the Dutch bowlers never looked back and produced a collective effort to clean up the rest of the Scottish batting unit. Vivian Kingma was the pick of the bowlers for the Netherlands with four wickets while Logan van Beek had three wickets to his name.

We are back. The players are out in the middle. Aryan Dutt to bowl first.

...THE CHASE...

Scotland won't be that disappointed too as they pulled things back in the last two overs or so. However, they were not up to the mark with the ball on most occasions. A couple of gentle full toss were hit away while they dropped a couple of catches too. They were constantly put under pressure on the field and were made to do some misfield. The spinners had control of the game. Watt, Main bowled really well. Leask too was economical. Now then! Not a big score but it's not easy to bat as well. Scotland will be under pressure as Netherlands bowlers now know who the pitch is playing. Can their bowlers defend this down? Let's find out.

A fine performance from Netherlands and they have finished with a par score on a pitch which looks like two-paced. Netherlands were told to bat first and the openers laid a wonderful foundation. Max O'Dowd and Michael Levitt added 68 runs. Both played with intent and Netherlands were looking for a score around 180 but they lost a bit of momentum as wickets started falling. Vikramjit Singh played a quick cameo in the middle phase but the hosts lacked someone who could have given them a grand stand finish.

...THE CHASE...

Scotland have had the better of Netherlands in the recent past but are lacking some international match time. However, this series is perfect for both teams actually to try and test their strategies before lighting up the World Cup. Netherlands recently played a tri-series against Nepal and Namibia, they looked quite sharp in the series but this probably is a ladder up as Scotland and Ireland have more international experience and will be a perfect match-up just before the main event. Let's hope we get some entertainment from both sides. Stay tuned for toss and other updates.

A triangular series is a rarity nowadays in international cricket, you don't often see it much but we finally have one as Netherlands are all set to host Ireland and Scotland for six T20I matches just before the World Cup kicks off. We welcome you all for the action between Netherlands and Scotland.

...MATCH DAY...

With the T20 World Cup 2024 looming large on the horizon, the Netherlands, Scotland and Ireland are all geared up to compete in a T20I Tri-Series as part of their preparation for the tournament. This series will see the three European teams face each other in a round-robin format, with each team playing against the others twice, but no final match will be played. Ireland, having just completed a packed schedule with an all-format tour against Afghanistan followed by a three-match T20 series against Pakistan, will have had ample game time to fine-tune their squad. In contrast, the Netherlands and Scotland will need to use this series to get their strategies right and ensure they enter the World Cup as well-oiled machines. The series kicks off with the Netherlands and Scotland locking horns in the first match at the Voorburg Cricket Club in The Hague, setting the stage for an action-packed and highly anticipated competition. Scotland have had a slight advantage over the Netherlands, winning three out of their last five encounters, which adds an extra layer of intensity to this battle. The Netherlands, however, come into this series riding high on the momentum of their recent Tri-Series win against Nepal and Namibia, a success they will look to build upon. Led by Scott Edwards, the team boasts a balanced batting lineup that blends experience with youthful exuberance. Key players like Michael Levitt and Sybrand Engelbrecht, alongside the seasoned Max O'Dowd, are expected to be pivotal with the bat. The bowling department appears well-rounded, featuring the likes of Paul van Meekeren, Vivian Kingma and Logan van Beek. Scotland, on the other hand, come into the series with a balanced side led by Richie Berrington who also leads the batting unit featuring George Munsey and Brandon McMullen which promises to be formidable. The bowling unit, comprising Mark Watt, Bradley Currie and Jack Jarvis could prove to be a potent force. Additionally, Scotland's lineup boasts several all-rounders, adding depth and versatility to the team. With both teams eager to start strong and set the tone for an enticing series, the intensity is soaring high. Will the Netherlands carry their momentum forward, or will Scotland leverage their recent success to claim the first win? We shall soon find out!
