Right then, that is it from this game and it is Kolkata who have managed to break their poor run of four losses and get a crucial win. The action in the 2023 Indian T20 League continues on Thursday, the 27th of April with a blockbuster clash between two top teams. Rajasthan will take on Chennai at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur and that game will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT) with our build-up starting much sooner. Do join us then. Take care and goodbye!

Varun Chakaravarthy is the PLATER OF THE MATCH for his fine display with the ball. Varun says that in the last match, he was taken to the cleaners and he is delighted to turn it around. Adds that cricket is a funny game. Mentions that he has worked a lot and thanks the backroom staff as well to support him. Ends by saying that he wants to dedicate this win to his newborn son and his wife. Hopes that he is able to meet them sooner rather than later.

Nitish Rana, the captain of Kolkata says that in the last 3-4 games he said that at the toss if they played collectively, the game would go their way and it did. On Jason Roy, he says that he has had an impact on the side and credit to the team for not losing belief and they were able to bounce back. Mentions that they tried to put the runs on the board and then use spin but there wasn't much turn and yet the spinners did well. On Suyash Sharma, he says that whenever he talks to him, the young guy puts his hands up, and in only a few handful of matches he has been able to do well for them.

The Presentation ceremony...

Andre Russell is down for a quick chat. He says that they really needed this victory, as they were under the pump. Informs that anything over 200 was a good score and is glad they could get that. He then congratulates the guys for this win. Tells that once he gets the ball he tries to help the team. Adds that he still knows what he can do with the ball. States that the runs were there on the board, and was confident enough that the team will defend it.

The skipper of Bangalore, Virat Kohli starts by saying that he feels they handed the game away. Adds that they were not brilliant in the field as well and it was a free win for the opponent. Mentions that their batters continued to lose wickets to non-wicket deliveries and that cost them the game. Tells that for them it is all about how much is there on the scoreboard, and how do they chase it down. States that they were just one partnership away from taking the game by the scruff of the neck. Informs that winning on the road is tougher but it certainly helps to bring the momentum into the side and will try to make the most of it while playing at home.

Earlier in the game, Virat Kohli walked out for the toss and won it, and put Kolkata into bat. Jason Roy and Narayan Jagadeesan made a fine start up top and added 83 runs for the first wicket before the latter got out. Roy got to his second half-century in a row but got out soon after. There was another 80-run stand between skipper Nitish Rana and Venkatesh Iyer which really put them in a good position before a few big hits from Rinku Singh and David Wiese took them to 200. With the ball, Vyshak Vijay Kumar and Wanindu Hasaranga were the standouts for Bangalore with a couple of wickets each but they dropped crucial catches which cost them dearly. Coming to the chase, Bangalore got to a good start but the Kolkata spinners simply didn't allow the opposition to get away and wickets at regular intervals earned them a crucial win.

Bangalore will be distraught with the loss and it is their third loss at home this season which is not a good sign. Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis started off in trademark fashion and Kohli looked in sublime touch. Faf got out after a quick start and soon Shahbaz Ahmed and Glenn Maxwell followed suit. There was a fightback from Kohli as he brought up his half-century and was well-supported by Mahipal Lomror who got a few hits away before getting out. With the scoreboard pressure mounting, Kohli too fell and only Dinesh Karthik managed to muster up a few runs in the lower order.

Kolkata had 200 runs on the board, just like they did the last time these two sides met but the pacers were hit away in the first couple of overs. Spin was introduced in the third over and the duo of Suyash Sharma and Varun Chakaravarthy bowled a fine spell of four overs between them, picking up three wickets as well. Sunil Narine and Nitish Rana couldn't replicate the other two spinners' performance but Kolkata managed to find ways of picking up wickets with Andre Russell doing a fine job with the ball as well. Varun came back in at the death to pick up his third wicket and in the end, it was a comfortable win for the away side.

Kolkata have done it yet again against Bangalore and that too on the road. They needed a win and boy, they got it with ease, also becoming the first team to do the double over a side this season.

Commentary

We are back for the chase. So, Faf du Plessis comes into the side as an IMPACT PLAYER. He replaces Harshal Patel. Virat Kohli and the South African to open for the hosts. Also, Kolkata bring Suyash Sharma into the side as their IMPACT PLAYER. Jason Roy is the player who makes way for him. It will be Vaibhav Arora to start with the new ball.

... The Run Chase ...

Right then, the onus now is on Bangalore's batters. Looking at their recent record they will be quite confident of getting over the line, but it is going to be tricker against the spin attack that Kolkata possess. Who will get over the line? To find out do join us for the second essay shortly...

Vyshak Vijay Kumar is in for a spot interview. He says that the wicket is pretty flat and its a batsman's game and reckons that 200 will be chasable. Adds that he has just been focusing on his strengths and the coaches have been really supportive. On Jason Roy's wicket, he says that he has been working hard with the bowling coach and wants to keep the batter guessing every ball. Ends by saying that the score is definitely chasable and the ball is coming onto the bat nicely.

It was rather a forgetful day for Bangalore with the ball and also in the field. We do not say this quite often, but Bangalore were certainly below their standards in the field, and our their stand-in captain, Virat Kohli will be very upset with the same. The Bangalore bowlers took some beating early on, but Vyshak Vijay Kumar did extremely well to pull things back for the hosts by going BANG, BANG to get rid of both the openers. Later, Wanindu Hasaranga sucked some momentum away from the opposition in the death with his wicket-taking 18th over, although the seamers could not put a lid over the run rate in the last two overs.

Kolkata were under immense pressure coming into this game with four defeats on the trot, nevertheless, they had a chance to redeem themselves on a batting paradise away from home. They did just that, with Jason Roy setting up the tune with his brisk knock up top. Narayan Jagadeesan though could not find his feet, and struggled to find the gaps at his own will, but played the second fiddle role well. It was going all well for Kolkata, but they lost both their openers in a single over. Then, Venkatesh Iyer and Nitish Rana joined forces, both the batters took their time to get their eye-in, and later, they did not shy away from flexing their muscles at the start of the death overs. These two batters stitched a stand of 80 runs off 44 balls, this certainly helped the visitors to end with what they did.

Phew! What an end did we just witness from Kolkata. 30 runs come off the final two overs and Kolkata head back into the break, at least with a psychological advantage, as David Wiese's maximum off the final ball got them to the magic number - 200. Bangalore will be extremely disappointed with their death bowling here.

SIX! Up and over and Kolkata get to the 200-run mark! Yet another slower one from Harshal Patel, dug in short and outside off. David Wiese stays back and forces the uppercut over short third man and the ball clears the fence as well. 15 off the final over as well and Kolkata finish with 200/5 on the board!

19.51

Nails the yorker now around off and Rinku Singh can only manage to squeeze it out toward point for a single.

19.40

Slower bumper this time and over the stumps, Rinku Singh tries to get his bat high and get it away but is undone by the lack of pace. No wide signalled and no review taken either.

19.31lb

Leg bye! Slower again, full and around off, David Wiese shuffles across trying to lap it but misses. The ball hits the pads and rolls onto the deck ads the batters scamper through for a leg bye.

19.26

SIX! Up, up and away! Slower delivery, on a length and around middle. David Wiese picks up the pace early and tees off, dispatching it a long way over the long on fence for a biggie. That one went 93 meters.

19.11

A full toss on leg stump, there to be hit but dips on the batter. Rinku Singh slogs it away to deep backward square leg for just a single.

OUT! BOWLED'EM! Mohammed Siraj with a perfect yorker! He steams in and bowls it at almost 145 clciks, right in the blockhole and angling into the leg pole. Andre Russell stands deep in his crease and tries to clear the front leg but is beaten for raw pace here. Russell swings across the line but the ball sneaks through and castles into the stumps. Siraj ends the over well but 15 runs come off it.

18.51

On a hard length and takes some pace off the delivery. Rinku Singh hangs back and mistimes the pull aerially in front of deep mid-wicket for a single.

18.40

Good comeback! A quick bumper, at 141.7 clicks and right around the helmet. Rinku Singh sways his head away from the line of the ball.

18.34

18.24

Glenn Maxwell from long on comes in and keeps his eyes on the ball before pouching it safely.

The ball turns and takes the top edge before lobbing up in front of short third man. Vyshak Vijay Kumar there dives in front and gets both hands under it. The third umpire is called in and the replays show that Kumar has caught it cleanly. Rana departs after a solid knock.

Is that a clean catch? The umpire takes it upstairs to confirm. The replays confirm that Vyshak Vijay Kumar has grabbed the ball cleanly and the big screen shows OUT.
