Right then, that's it from the coverage of this game. The second game of this 3-match T20I series will be played tomorrow i.e. 26th March, Sunday, at the same venue. The game will begin at 5.30 pm IST (12.00 pm GMT). As always, you can join in early for the build up. Until then, take care and good bye!

The West Indies' skipper, Rovman Powell, is also the Man of the Match for his match-winning knock. He starts by saying that he is really pleased with his effort. Mentions that he was respectful while facing the seamer in the first ball. Adds that a lot of guys in the team are used to the T10 format and that certainly helped them. Informs that you just need two of your batters to go long and that does help a lot. States that they just need to focus on the basics and ride with the momentum.

Aiden Markram, the captain of South Africa says it was a close game and went down to the wire. Adds that they were poor the start of both batting and bowling innings and they managed to scrape through to around 130. Mentions that they have plenty of positives as the bowlers did a fine job. Reckons that they have a few areas to improve upon and they will look to rectify in the next game. Closes by saying that they will have to come back better and do well in the second game.

Stay tuned for the presentation...

Earlier in the day, we were off to a late start, thanks to the rain gods. Although it only made things more enticing as the match got reduced to a 11 overs match, each side. South Africa got to 132 for 8 on the back of David Miller’s 48 off 22 with Magala, Hendricks and Markram playing handy little cameos. The West Indies bowlers kept it tight for the first 7 overs but leaked aplenty in the final three and allowed Proteas to get over 130. Cottrell and Smith took 2 wickets each while the rest of the bowlers played the support role with one each.

Anrich Nortje was the pick of the bowlers for his economical spell, where he conceded just 17 off his 3 overs with a wicket to his name. Magala bowled a fine 19th over but the rest of the bowlers were taken for a plenty and West Indies came out on top in this first T20I as they lead 1-0.

A terrific run chase by West Indies as they win by 3 wickets with 3 balls to spare. Chasing 133 was going to be tough against the strong South African attack, that too in just 11 overs, but King and Mayers started off in a fine fashion. King in particular was impressive as he pummeled 23 off just 8 balls and the Windies got 34 in the first two overs. Johnson Charles played an important knock of 28 off 14 in the middle but it was the inning of Rovman Powell 43* off 18 that changed the momentum in West Indies favour and got them back into the game. West Indies needed 20 off the last 3 overs, Nortje and Magala were able to get it down to the final over. Wayne Parnell though gambled with the short balls and that costed them the game.

WOW! Fireworks from the bat of Rovman Powell first, followed by some fireworks across the stadium to celebrate this incredible victory for West Indies. The hosts take an early lead in this T20I series.

Commentary

We are back for West Indies' reply. The South African players make their way out on the field. Followed by Kyle Mayers and Brandon King who walk out to open for West Indies. Bjorn Fortuin will start with the new ball.

... The Run Chase ...

Sheldon Cottrell was the pick of the Windies bowlers with 2 wickets for 31 runs in his three overs of which he was peppered for 24 in his last over.  The rest of the bowlers supported him well and kept the run rate in check, although they might feel they lost their advantage as they head into the break. Right then, the target now for West Indies is 132. Can they do it and take a 1-0 lead in this series? We shall find out together. The second essay coming up shortly. Stay tuned.

A 13-ball 47 runs partnership between David Miller and Sisanda Magala has got South Africa to 131 for 8 in their allotted 11 overs. Having put into bat first, South Africa lost de Kock early for a golden duck. The other batters kept swinging their bat and kept the run rate going around 10 per over.  West Indies picked up wickets regularly and half of the Proteas side was back in the hut inside 40 balls. Reeza Hendricks played a handy knock while Aiden Markram and Rilee Rossouw chipped in with small contributions. David Miller was again the savior as he made a brilliant 48(22) and took his side into a comfortable position after being in some trouble early on.

Is that a clean catch? The third umpire gets involved here. Anrich Nortje grabs the ball mid-air, but as he releases the ball back in the air, he does manage to keep his heel away from the boundary cushion. The umpire though going through several angles here.

Followed by Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks who walk out to open for South Africa. It will be Akeal Hosein to start with the new ball. A huge dark lurking around the ground. Hopefully, the rain gods do not interrupt once again. Here we go...

Aiden Markram, the skipper of South Africa is in for a chat. He says that they would've bowled first as well but they will try to put a sufficent total on the board. Mentions it is about encouraging guys about expressing themselves in the shortest format. Adds that it is a fresh start from them.

Rovman Powell, the captain of West Indies says that they will bowl first as it’s the trend on the venue. Adds they will have to do the right things and play good cricket. Mentions that he will have to lead from the front and the team will follow. Says that they are going with a balanced side.

South Africa (Playing XI) - Quinton de Kock (WK), Reeza Hendricks, Rilee Rossouw, Aiden Markram (C), Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Wayne Parnell, Sisanda Magala, Bjorn Fortuin, Anrich Nortje and Tabraiz Shamsi.

West Indies (Playing XI) - Kyle Mayers, Brandon King, Johnson Charles, Nicholas Pooran (WK), Rovman Powell (C), Roston Chase, Romario Shepherd, Odean Smith, Sheldon Cottrell, Akeal Hosein and Alzarri Joseph.

TOSS - The coin goes up and lands in favour of West Indies. They will BOWL first.

Update 7.06 pm IST (1.36 pm GMT) - Right then, the update from the officials is that the toss will be taking place at 7.15 pm IST (1.45 pm GMT) and the game should be started by 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). Although, it has been reduced down to a 11-overs match for each side. Should be a cracker.

Update 6.47 pm IST (1.17 pm GMT) - Alright then, the rain has stopped, which is a positive sign, but still uncertain about the start time. The umpires will be coming out on the field at 7 pm IST (1.30 pm GMT) for an inspection. No covers are seen in the middle now, although the super soppers are doing their job to make playing conditions better. Hopefully, the rain gods stay away.

Update 6.24 pm IST (12.54 pm GMT) - The sun is trying hard to make its way through the dark clouds. Things are brightening up a touch, which is a really good sign. The covers though still remains intact over the pitch, but some covers are being taken off around it. Let's hope we get to see some action soon.

Update 6.05 pm IST (12.35 pm GMT) - Not great news folks, the situation hasn't improved in Centurion as it continues to pour at the ground and the covers are on. Stay tuned for further updates.

Update 5.30 pm IST (12.00 pm GMT) - Folks, the game was supposed to get underway right now but it’s still raining and there is no real update regarding the TOSS. The wait continues.

Update 5.03 pm IST (11.33 am GMT) - Well, not a promising sign! The covers are coming on the field now, as the rain has started to just as we were getting ready for the toss. So, inevitably the TOSS HAS BEEN DELAYED. Let's hope this is just a passing shower.

West Indies, who are known for their lethal approach in the shortest format, find themselves in a transition phase, and have decided to hand the captaincy to Rovam Powell, he has captained once before in a T20I match. To be honest, there is no shortage of power-hitters in this batting rank and if they explode, it will be a challenge to stop them. Two strong teams colliding, only makes this match more enticing. Who will get over the line? We shall find out soon, as the toss isn't far away.

Hello and a warm welcome to all. It is now time for the first T20I match between South Africa and West Indies. This is the start of the final leg of this multi-format series. It will be Aiden Markram who will lead this Proteas side. South Africa are a solid unit with experience across all departments. They will hope that they can get things started on a positive note under the new leadership.

... MATCH DAY ...

Following a closely fought ODI series in which both teams shared the trophy, it is now time for action in the game's shortest format. South Africa and West Indies will now face off in a three-match T20I series. The first two T20Is of the series will be played at the SuperSport Park in Centurion before the caravan shifts to the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg for the third and final T20I of the series. The change in format has brought about a change in leadership for the hosts, with Aiden Markram taking over from Temba Bavuma for the T20I series. Aiden Markram, along with Quinton de Kock, Heinrich Klaasen, and Rilee Rossouw, will be crucial to the chances of the hosts with the bat. South Africa have a lethal pace attack with Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, and Lungi Ngidi in their ranks. The spin duo of Bjorn Fortuin and Tabraiz Shamsi did a decent job in the ODI series and will be expected to do even better in the T20I series. West Indies, on the other hand, will play the T20I series under the leadership of Rovman Powell. In the batting department, the onus will be on Johnson Charles, Kyle Mayers, and Nicholas Pooran in this series. The seam bowling duties for the visitors will rest on the shoulders of Alzarri Joseph, Sheldon Cottrell, and Jason Holder. In the spin department, Akeal Hosein and Yannic Cariah will hold the key for West Indies. In the previous five T20I meetings between the two sides, South Africa have come out on top on four occasions, and as a result, they hold the upper hand heading into this series. Will South Africa continue their dominance over West Indies in the T20I format? Or will we see West Indies spring a surprise? We shall find out soon enough.
